Generally reasonable prices, good menu, and offers a lot of gluten free options.
We only do take out but the food is always good and they are very friendly
Little bit more expensive than regular Chinese take out but it's worth it it's the best in the area
If you are gluten free and want a wonderful meal that is safe this is the place.
I always stop out here when I'm in the area....one of the better Chinese restaurants in NY
Portions are very generous. Food is good. Take out only.
Been going there for years I've always liked their food.
The food is awesome and there are many different options to choose from!
Love this place! Egg rolls and Dumplings are the best!
The new owners are very polite and nice the place was very nice speedy service excellent food me and my family enjoyed very much Best place ever
Food is good, and the portions are on par with every other Chinese restaurant! Will definitely return in the future! Mind the step at the front door when you go. Coming out, don't forget the first step 👍
Wow this was absolutely fantastic delivery Chinese food , sauces and fresh vegetables in the dishes really stood out. Prices are very good too would definitely recommend & order again
So glad we rediscovered the place, best roast duck around, finally excellent orange beef, crispy and soft, the way it meant to be. Try Dragon Phoenix soup with the juicy lobster chunks, highly recommended!
Good food for a good price! I also like that they have a dedicated and fairly large gluten free menu. Being able to order online is a big plus too
Great place for quality Chinese food. Just take out as they have shut down the sit down since the pandemic.
the new owner was very friendly. ordered the food, and came out fast and all good. Suggest to try their chef's recommendation, since these are their specialties.
Delicious. Everything I have ever had. Best Chinese food around. Reminds me of a amazing Chinese place on 3rd Avenue and 15th Street in Manhattan.
I'm kind of picky when it comes to Chinese food but I've liked pretty much everything I've tried here! The sesame chicken is especially good.
The service is great, the menu is huge, and there's free tea as you sit too! Definitely a recommended location.
We order from here every few weeks, always a solid meal with good service.
Never had a bad meal here! It's always delicious. Friendly, fast service.
Excellent food. Expansive menu that includes glutten free and vegetarian. Enjoy taking my grandchildren here.
I been there few times, always have great tasty food, never fail me! Recommend to anyone I know!
A classic Chinese restaurant, with a solid selection of options, and quick service. Also, a gluten free menu with a decent selection as well!
Love them, foods great every time! lots of vegetarian options.
Present atmosphere. Excellent food. I have came here on and off for 20 years.. Still best place ever..
We are inundated in Chinese restaurants. It's hard to differentiate from time to time. Golden Pheonix is a step above. Very very good!
Food is authentic and truly delicious. Best oriental food in the area and the variety is great!
My husband was elderly and he wastreated
This is my favorite place to eat. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. I used to always get take out but finally ate inside one day and now I eat in all the time. It's a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
Food was awesome. I had the Crispy Shrimp and Eggplant. The sauce was perfect. Good service... we ate inside. They do a lot of takeout grubhub/ door dash business. Great food.
The food here is great. REALLY importantly, though, they actually have a GLUTEN FREE CHINESE menu! Almost no place has these! Our favourite is the gluten free sesame chicken!
We absolutely love this restaurant! They have numerous options for vegetarians which is great. Every single thing we have ordered we have enjoyed. Everyone who works there is so friendly bringing a very welcoming feel to the restaurant.
All the dishes we ordered were fantastic; Szechuan beef and the pork lo mein were the crowd favorites. Courteous, efficient, and knowledgeable staff. Huge range of menu and inexpensive for the quality and quantity of food.
The food is incredible. Always spot on. This is a go-to for your favorite food. Always order the happy family! Order it to share or alone. Golden Phoenix never gives you less and always more than you expect!
Went here because it said it was a Thai/Chinese restaurant. Though my husband liked the Chinese, the Pad Thai I ordered was disappointing! It was dry, and didn't have the normal peanut sauce on it--but if you're going here for Chinese you'll be fine!
I got the lunch special and it was amazing. Under $20 for my boyfriend and I to have a full lunch with rice and soup, as well as a pot of tea. They were also able to make it gluten free!
Great food and service! New owners are very friendly and welcoming! Serve authentic Chinese food and Thai food. Oh you might want to try the mango rice pudding for dessert after your meal, it's delicious!
I’ve never been disappointed with the food here! I’ve been coming for about 4 years now and I golden phoenix has quickly become my favorite spot for Chinese food.
Yummy yummy! My boyfriend and I had a very nice dinner at Golden Phoenix last night. The shrimp he ordered is very tasty. Also the Ma Po Tofu is a good choice if you like spicy food. Lots of choices on the menu, the waiter’s very patient to recommen what's in the chef’s specials. Good food and good service. Definitely will go to there again.
They have a unique way of preparing their General Tso's Chicken than the other Asian restaurants. Not knocking any of their competition, but Golden Phoenix is separate, and delicious, and holds up well as leftovers a day or two later, rare among Chinese restaurants. Excellent dining experience as well, great staff, gigantic menu for a wide variety of tastes.
I have eaten here since the 80s! I haven't been there in years as I live out of state now, but I have fond memories of dinner at this place. I'm happy to see they are still open. I wonder if the same family still runs it. Melinda was in charge back then.
Golden Phoenix is by far my favorite restaurant for Chinese and Thai cuisine. They work hard to make sure the food is exactly what you want, accommodating special requests for things like excluding or adding specific vegetables as you prefer. The service is great: the business is family run, and everyone is very friendly and willing to have random conversations with you, which I find awesome. If you're looking for something upscale or formal, this probably isn't the best choice, but if you want something casual, and delicious, with friendly service, you've found the right spot!
So happy to pick up dinner from you folks tonight after missing you through the pandemic. As always your food is delicious, always hot and perfectly prepared. We drive in from Canandaigua and will continue to do so as long as you remain open. Keep up the great work and friendly service. Love you folks.
This is the only Chinese food I will eat! The food is always delicious and the endless hot tea and crispy noodles are great! They have the best customer service. Even takeout is always prepared perfectly! My whole family loves it there.
We have ordered from golden phoenix many times over the years. The family that now operates there are super. They have consistently great food and are friendly. Additionally I left my wallet there and they took care of it until I was reunited with it. Needless to say I’m a fan!
Ordered lunch on Christmas as the person making the meal had an emergency. Food was done quickly and tasted great. One of the better Chinese restaurants in the Rochester area. Highly recommend.
I like this place and recommend it. The food is good. 4 stars not 5 because it is hit or miss on if something is spicy or not but is always tasty. I always check the extra spicy option. It may be depending upon who is cooking on any given day, but only guessing. No stars for atmosphere because it is still take out only and therefor it has none.
We love this place. Food is always hot even delivered. I think the Thai green chicken curry is awesome and my daughter dreams about their lomein. We think the crab Rangoon is really good. Their cook time is quick.
They have the most gluten free options of anywhere I have seen in the area, of any cuisine. We order as often as budget allows, as there are too many dishes we love! Of course there have been off days here and there, but overall we love this place!
This is easily the best Chinese in the eastern suburbs and perhaps further. Since I've been back in the Rochester area I have gotten take-out from here two or three times a week, and it's their distinct committment to quality food and a high standard of personalized service that has kept me coming back so often. Golden Phoenix offers a broad selection of dishes distinguished by their use of excellent quality meats and other ingredients. I have tried much of the menu and am always left impressed. While primarily a Chinese restaurant, they also offer a Thai menu, and I will always choose theirs over the Thai restaurant across the street. I would also like to highlight the excellent service and wonderful people here. This is a family owned and run business; the owner himself is often making your meal. Everyone is very friendly and good for a conversation. I often have some requests to make when ordering Asian food in general- I like my dish very spicy, I like to pay for extra meat, and I sometimes dislike a certain vegetable or two in a dish. My requests are always honored here, because it is clear they value their customers and want to do good work. These qualities are rarer than they should be- the Golden Phoenix is a special place to me.
I always love coming here. Their gluten free section is huge. Where else can you have 70 options to choose from. Most places have like 5 things. Super tasty. I live over 3 hours away and make sure to eat here whenever I am in the area. I also make up excuses to come up/pass through the area just to eat here.
Excellent food, nice atmosphere, decent portions and fair prices. Only reason I didn't give it four stars, is because the waitresses don't wear mini skirts. ;)
Most of their food is very good, but the fried rice is a bit dry and bland, so definitely mix it with something else.
This is a nice little place to go . The food and portions are just right. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Has a gluten free menu. Good food moderately priced, good service worth trying again
Really good Asian joint. Generous servings on takeout. Looking forward to eating in after covid. Strongly recommend the Thai Green Curry, its quite tasty. Lo Mein, Szechuan and Beef with Broccoli have all been winners. Dumplings are good, ginger sauce that comes with them is amazing! It's our go to Chinese American/ Asian joint.
Great variety in the menu, everthing we've ordered was delicious. Descent portions except for the Sweet and Sour chicken which is barely enough for 3 small children.
Great sesame chicken: soft and tender, not over-breaded or -fried. (Steam from broccoli did water down the sauce, and my request for utensils was ignored.)
My mom loves chow mein and gets it often where she lives. She is with me for a few days, and we ordered take out tonight. Mom raved about the chicken chow mein saying it was much better than what she usually gets elsewhere. My meal was great too.
I really like the dining experience here. The staff is friendly and food/drinks are pretty good. This isn't five stars because I've had better Chinese food :p. The only thing I have to point out is you get smaller portion sizes, if you dine in. They've gone from pint/quart to half/full (not the only restaurant to do this).
I will start off by saying the food was awesome it was pretty much the best Chinese food I've ever had. Had it delivered to the office for lunch, they were fast, the order was correct, and everything tasted amazing. I got Schweshan style tofu, and my co worker got beef and broccoli, we also got fried dumplings and crab rangoons, which were phenomenal. However, midway though my meal I found a staple in my broccoli. I don't know how it got there, but it was pretty well hidden because I didn't find it until I was biting down on it. I'm sure it was an isolated incident but as a first time customer, it still makes me wary.
The food here was great- tasted fresh, flavourful, and cooked correctly for optimum texture. the food came in a timely manner as well. The service was also great. This place is a local family business and the whole family helps to make this place a comfortable spot for a bite to eat. There are no booths- the business is nestled in a “house” and thus is quite small. It’s great if you’re looking for a quieter scene with a small diner feel. They even have two silenced and captioned TVs in opposite corners with news channels on for viewing and conversation. Overall, I give this place 4 stars. It’s a bit small and outdated in style but the food here is great and what it lacks it makes up for in great food quality- these guys can cook! I definitely recommend if you’re looking for some very tasty Chinese food in a small diner setting!
Above Average [ Chicken Lo Mein, Sesame Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken ] Not Good [ Orange Chicken ] (Dropped 1 star because they don't deliver on weekends.)
They are pick up only, which isn't a downside. Their food, for some reason, hasn't been great the past few times we have picked up from here. Rice tasted like a bowl of soy sauce. 😐
Saw that this restaurant offered Thai food on the menu, which we were in the mood for. Had heard that they do great Chinese, so gave it a shot. We ordered take out, and did not eat in the restaurant. Unfortunately, all four appetizers and three entrees didn't exactly live up to our expectations. The best of the group was most likely the Pad Khee Mao. The Pad Thai was a little bland, and the Green curry had very little heat. The Crab Rangoon tasted over-fried. Portions were massive, but I would have traded a bit of quantity for a little more flavor. Additionally, I was a bit shocked at the bill when I arrived. I'll admit I ordered 7 items, but I felt that the prices could have been more reasonable for what we got. All in all the menu is huge, and I'm sure there's a lot to like - but next time we'll stick to the Chinese side of the menu.
Not as good as usual. Bad tea, bathrooms out of order. I don't know what happened but this place is going down hill.
Got takeout. -Chicken fried rice: completely bland and flavorless, but the sprouts were fresh. -Pork egg roll: also flavorless except the cabbage was definitely off and it was extremely unappetizing and not edible. Used to love it here, heard the quality had suffered, tried it on a whim, am now filled with regret. :(
The food was bland, including the egg rolls. You would think a peanut curry sauce would be flavorful, but it wasn't. The egg rolls must have sat in a steaming tray all day. The fried pot stickers were decent. The restaurant is clean. But it seems that the place is not well managed.
Has really gone down hill as of late. My sesame chicken tasted funny and I'm 95% sure it wasn't chicken
Food was overcooked and didn’t taste well, sauces were not good either, would t recommend if your looking for good Chinese food
It Sucked. Their employees are rude and the managers are worse. It's is not sanitary because I found rat dropping along the walls. The only thing good is the Kung Poa chicken and their hot tea, but unless you like Rodents in your food, Stay Away.
Ordered food from here for lunch delivered. While eating the wonton soup, I came across a piece of metal, like from a scrubber, in the wonton. When I called back I was told there was nothing they could do for me for now because it was rush time, which I only had the food for 10 minutes before finding and calling, and that ‘It happens’. This was an unacceptable response that was given to me. I was appalled that the manager just kept telling me over and over that “it happens” then asked me what I wanted them to do, instead of apologizing and offering to make it right. I said I should have food replaced, but was denied that because it was rush time and they could not do that. He did say he was putting a $10 credit on the phone number for next time, but not going to lie, I will never be back. I have worked in the food industry and your cleaning supply for cleaning your walls (as I was told by them the metal piece was from) should not end up in the food you serve.
I've Ben going here for years ,,,it usually is good,, but they forgot to give us Rice for all our meals..so food is good don't leave without checking ,and they won't like next time I'm there ,,I'm going to tear the whole bag open and check my order ,,,like we need to do for any food pick up ever...so was not happy
Ordered Hunan chicken, thought I received the wrong order of general tsao's chicken. I called and apparently their Hunan is general tsao's with a couple of vegetables. Very different from any other hunan chicken I've ordered. Won't be going back.
Can't believe it!! They can NEVER get my order right and try to tell me that that's not what I said on the phone after I've already repeated myself several times. Horrible English. The delivery guys are always in a hurry to leave while I check my bag to make sure I got every thing, which I never do. Please don't waste your time or money at Golden Phoenix!!
My chicken and broccoli order came, it tasted like nothing. There was no sauce and no seasoning on it. It was like eating boiled chicken and veggies. Very disappointing.
Just got takeout. Lo mein without noodles? Shimp with broccoli in some gelatenous goo. What a mess. Avoid like the plague.
I had so many people tell me how great this restaurant was and I was totally dissatisfied with my meal. Definitely only 1 star!!
Tried to call and give feedback on my food and the lady said “whatever” and hung up. Would never order from there again
Service is very slow. We had to wait for an hour and twenty minutes to get our food even after we called. Very dissatisfied!
I've gone to Golden Phoenix many times over the years and have always had a good meal. I haven't been back in a while and we recently decided to order take out. The experience was extremely disappointing and we won't be back anytime soon. The beef skewers were cold, soup was bland, egg rolls were greasy, and the Hunan Pork we ordered ended up being Hunan Chicken (I think) but mostly skin and fat. Not good. I love Chinese food but this was the worst meal I've ever had. We won't be back.
ZERO STARS The first time I ate at Golden Phoenix, about a year and a half ago, was quite the experience. Our waiter couldn't understand English very well, so it took me a long time to get him to understand that I wanted to exchange chicken for duck in a particular dish. When I DID get him to understand, I asked him to make sure that the skin was crispy, like duck should be cooked....obviously. Needless to say, when I got the dish the duck was UNDERCOOKED, and SUPER FATTY. Last night my sister and brother-in-law went there for dinner, and brought me home some Sesame Chicken. Usually one of my favorites. I have to say I have never seen SESAME CHICKEN like this before. They put the sauce separately because it was a Carry Out Order, which was the way it should have been. When they got home however, the batter was way, way, way TOO THICK, and HARD AS ROCK. After soaking it in the sauce for an hour, the batter was still really, really hard. After sawing it (literally) in a half, it wasn't surprising to see that the chicken was OVERCOOKED, STRINGY, (from it separating as it dried out), and tasted like SHOE LEATHER. It doesn't take me a third time do you know when something is BAD. It's extremely doubtful that I'll need to go back one more time to learn my lesson. So for me, Golden Phoenix… "STRIKE TWO YOU'RE OUT!!!!" (this is a reliable source, no exaggerations were necessary)
Just spent over $60.00 for a take out plus $20.00 tip for my order. In a pint box I received a $8.95 for pork lo mein. usually other places get a quart box. Thanks alot...plus I ordered eggplant then, they called and said they didn't have any, but I ended up with a small order, I have always enjoyed their food,, but dont cheat me or lie
I ordered the sesame chicken (white chicken) and rice. The sesame sauce came on the side which was different from other Chinese restaurants. The sesame chicken was not that good and the rice tastes like cardboard. When I was eating the rice i found a small black bug. Will not be going back.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. I ordered dinner tonight for my son and I. First they didn't get my order right. So I called, the lady insisted I order what she gave me (very rude). I had to drive back to get my sweet and sour sauce and return the chicken lomein. I ordered a small general t chicken, crab rangue, and a large chicken lomein. She failed to inform me they don't have a small general ts chicken when placing my order. I was charged 25.33 for small lomein, general ts chicken, and 5 crab rangue. Total rip off. Never have I been disrespected more by anyone. The food hardly feed my son. I will never order from this place again. I will drive to Brighton and go to Chef's for the best Chinese food in the area.
I cannot even do a half star :/ First off the service was TERRIBLE. The server forgot everything that we had asked for and she was non existent. We only got service because the young boy that was a busser BUSTED his ASS (5 gold stars for that kid, Just left the tip for him) The food was not all that good for the prices. We where there for well over an hour of mostly just sitting. The waitress never even asked what we wanted for drinks. (again thank you kid) and she also went and got the order of people who sat down after us, even tho we were ready. Very Disappointed and will not be going back.
Very disappointed-this use to be my favorite place for Chinese in Fairport, not any longer. The dumplings size/amount were changed to 6 not 8 and were store bought potstickers, not their original homemade ones. This was definitely a waste of money.
I just wasted 69 dollars on the worst Chinese I have ever eaten.. never again the dumplings were burned, the veggies were not fresh, no flavor on any of the dishes if it wasn't snowing I would take it all back and demand my money back. 🤢
Golden Phoenix has always been our favorite Asian restaurant. During the Covid crisis you have contiued to operate although with a limited menu, which is unerstandable. Thank you. However, we ordered yesterday for take out and were very, very disappointed. - you are very poorly organied to properly handle take out. I waited over 20 minutes while my order sat on the inside bar getting cold. There were no instructions on ow to get and pay for my order, and no one available to ask. - We had the worst food ever for any Asian restaurant we have ever used. Spring rolls were terrible, fried shrimp dumplings tasted terrible, my Singapore Chow Mai Fun was terrible with mushy, soft shrimp. I doubt we will be back for quite some time.
I heard that golden phoenix had gluten free food. So I went there to see their menu. I was told to look online. So I left and went across the street to Chakara. Much better place.
The restaurant had no customers. I ordered take-out: fresh vegetable spring rolls, and Beef with Broccoli. The spring rolls were tacky and the insides were soggy-- inedible. And the "beef" was a gray color, weird texture, no seasoning-- it was disgusting. When I called to ask if I could bring back this food for a fresh new one (because this has to a mistake?!), I was told, "No you pay you keep". Honestly hoping I don't get sick to my stomach even though I just had a couple bites. Worst restaurant I've ever been to, "Chinese" or otherwise. Save yourself and go elsewhere.
I ordered their sweet and sour chicken. Honestly the worst I have ever eaten. Small burnt pieces of breading … very little chicken. The taste was also off like the oil it was cooked in was old. Have ordered from here before but won’t be back. Fed it to my dog…
Used to be always a treat to eat at GP! We ordered Seasme Chicken and the sauce was good but the meat was bad!! Not sure if it was even Chicken! Fried rice was still good but bc of that experience we won't be coming back. Sad :(
Ordered through grubhub after I saw the positive reviews on here. Fresh summer rolls were literally just lettuce. General Tso chicken was flavorless (I ordered it hot) and the quality of chicken is incredibly poor. And my wife’s moo shoo shrimp was greasy, had no flavor, and was served with flour tortillas instead of the traditional rice wraps. Extremely disappointed. Will not be going back.
Disturbing experience. We were insulted and hung up on after kindly asking for a refund *after they admitted to giving us the wrong order* that could have killed someone. Before hanging up on us we were told that for a refund, of an item they admitted to having gotten wrong, we should bring our garbage bag full of trash to their restaurant for them to pick through *in the restaurant* to verify we have the item they tell us they know we ordered, that we have the receipt for. We had the impression there could be physical violence if we returned, which while potentially satisfying is not worth the price of a couple meals. Talk about going to lengths to avoid issuing a refund when we would have settled for an apology. Believe the other reviewers who have reported being literally yelled at. Like others I'll be reporting them to the health department, the Better Business Bureau, and disputing charges for the ordered meals we never received.
Ordered two sesame chicken meals thru Grubhub. I was impressed with how fast it was ready and delivered to my house until I saw how completely RAW my chicken was. Literally pink in the middle, nowhere near edible. First time ordering from this Chinese restaurant and wouldn’t dare ordering from there again.
Golden phoenix has been my favorite chinese restaurant for decades. I have been going there since my children were small. Tonight's dinner was the worst dinner I have ever had here. The fantail shrimp were totally overdone and the inside of the batter was very thick and doughy, the eggroll was very greasy and the garlic chicken had no flavor and the sauce was thin and watery. i was sad to say i could not rate it any higher than 1 star. I have always gotten excellent food from the Golden Phoenix. I don't know what has changed but i would love to see it back to the way it was :( I was EXTREMELY disappointed. It will be a good while before i order from you again!
