Wonderful food! This was my first time here and I am definitely coming back!
We have been going here for over 30 years. It's our favorite Bolivian resturant. We tend to eat there at least once a month.
I'm not Bolivian but I did stay a "Holiday Inn Express"😁 Seriously though My wife is "Inca" born and raised and this is our go to Restaurant for Her Back home Food. The Saltena's are to die for. Since I'm a "Gringo" I go for the "Milanesa de Carne" but I get a side of Pico de Gallo to go with it. Dont for get the "Mocochinchi" to wash it down with. My Wife and her Sister can wait to go there. The Food brings them back home every time.
Takeout Review: Luzmila’s Restaurant – Falls Church, VA Every time I make it out to Falls Church, I make it a point to stop by Luzmila’s—and they never disappoint. This visit, I ordered takeout and once again, everything hit the mark. The revueltas pupusas were as satisfying as ever—gooey, cheesy, with that perfect balance of pork and beans. Paired with their curtido, which is fresh, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it’s the kind of combination that makes you slow down and savor every bite. This time - I ate it way too fast before I remembered to take a picture.) ;( One of the reasons I keep coming back is the chicken salteñas—always consistent in quality and flavor. The pastry is soft and just slightly sweet, the filling is juicy and flavorful, and there’s never a dry bite. && of course the green sauce just tops off the sweet, savory fillings. I love getting a bite w/ the olives or an egg- my favorites!! This time, I branched out and also tried both the chicken and beef empanadas, and they were a hit. Generously filled, super juicy, and packed with bold, savory flavor—these might become a new go-to when I come back. Luzmila’s has a rare consistency you don’t often find. Even though I only get to this area every few months, I always know what I’m getting: delicious food made with care. Highly recommend!
Before I thank this restaurant for the marvelous Bolivian experience I received in here, I gotta thank my fiancée for bringing me to this jewel. We were driving down from NYC on our way down to Florida where we live. But we could not just pass through the DC Metropolitan Area without stopping here for lunch or dinner. Therefore we stopped for the former rather than the latter. Because we were in a rush to continue our drive through the night. The very first thing we ordered was a couple of Salteña empanadas. One chicken, one empanada. Because that is all I pretty much knew about Bolivian cuisine since I’m not Bolivian myself. My fiancée is. Since she is from Santa Cruz, she looked for her regional cuisine. But all she found was the Amazonian Cheese Bread cruceños know as Cuñapé. The restaurant mostly focuses on Andean Bolivian cuisine. Which is fine by me. After we ate a piece of Cuñapé, we proceeded to order a Fricasé soup, Andean Pork Soup, to share. I really liked it. I had not had it since my childhood when I visited Bolivia at the age of five. So it brought me a few memories. Just like Humitas do. Because we also eat them in my native Peru. Not for nothing we are neighbors. The best part of our big meal at the restaurant was our respective entrees. My fiancée ordered a Mixed Escabeche which she had not eaten since she left Bolivia many years ago. I did not try it because I did not like eating Escabeche as a child growing up in Southern Peru. Therefore I ordered a Plato Paceño, or Paceño Platter. I fell in love with the dish. I only wished they offered Peruvian Huancaina sauce but I know the restaurant is Bolivian, not Peruvian. The next time I go back to the DC area with my fiancée, I am definitely going back to this restaurant with her. We do not mind them not offering many Bolivian Amazonian dishes. Because we loved the Andean dishes they offer. You cannot pass on Salteña empanadas at Bolivian restaurant. Those empanadas are their signature dish. The owner and her servers did definitely earn our business. Five Stars!
This is a best kept secret in Falls Church, did not know it existed but I am happy I ventured in. The food is so good, I ordered enough to make sure I had leftovers. Saltenas (empanadas) are so good, I ordered 8 of them, both chicken and beef were so yummy. I was full and kept eating, not sorry at all. The lady who took my order was very nice. If you like authentic food, try this place, I will definitely be back. Can't wait to introduce this place to others.
Absolutely delicious! I’ve never tried Bolivian food before, only hear how tasty it was from one of my Bolivian friends. I put my questions. Today after having some delicious salteñas! Also enjoyed the pupusas. The prices was very reasonable, and service was prompt. I absolutely recommend trying this restaurant!
first time in this small place, the soup I got was very tasty and the salteña was decent, even though I went kinda late the server was polite, the only reason I'm putting 4 starts it's because the price of the salteña in the menu was different than the one in the check, when I asked why I was been charged more he said those prices were old, really? so why they don't change it or correct it? we costumers, should pay what ever is written in the menu right? anyways! since it's a small restaurant I'll take it. 🤷🏻♂️ I'll comeback another day 2 try the churrasco, I heard it's good.
Authentic Taste of Bolivia at Luzmila's Visited Luzmila's Bolivian Restaurant, and it was like a trip back to my roots. As someone born and raised in Bolivia, finding a place that captures the essence of Bolivian cuisine is a real treat, especially when I want my kids to experience our rich culinary heritage. We indulged in pastel, salteñas, mocochinchi, and picante mixto. Each dish was a burst of authentic flavors and perfect seasoning, bringing back a flood of fond memories. The only letdown was the beer – it came across as bland and flat, possibly stored for too long. However, the standout food more than made up for this minor hiccup. I'll definitely be returning to Luzmila's for that genuine Bolivian flavor fix!
for a quick stop when you are looking for authentic Bolivian food. Papusas tasty, grilled to perfection. Empanadas somewhat flavorless but can be jazzed up with some side sauce which has quite a bit of spice. Bottle drinks, service prompt
A perfectly adequate and convenient location for saltenas and empanadas in the Falls Church area. Reasonable priced. As for the saltenas, they were smaller and sweeter than traditional but were seasoned well. We can't complain and we might just return.....but won't be going out of our way 🤷. We came in during the weekday lunch time and were served quickly for take out although it was busy for sitdown. A good sign and good customer service.
Come her if you want to have pateles con api. They are just like in La Paz and full of cheese. We ordered Chairo, Fricasé and Salteñas. Very nice and friendly staff, our server came several times to ask us how everything was. Food is fresh. We also tried sopa de mani, Fricasé and Chairo. Chairo flavor was good, but I was surprised they made it with chicken and beef as Chairo is with 6 it is the "chalona" that gives the true flavor. Moconchichi drink was good.
The food was not good. To start off, they gave us bread that was dry and crumbly. It was a bad first impression. My waiter had a thick accent with broken English (which, of course, isn't a problem itself), but it made getting my order frustrating because it didn't have any of the modifications I asked for. I chalk it up to a possible language barrier vs ignorance. I had the chicken sandwich, which was the same dry bread they initially served to me. The chicken was also dry with not much flavor. They were served with fries that were unseasoned. To make matters worse, there was an undisclosed mandatory 19% gratuity fee. I was there with my fiancée and the initial bill was a little over $45. But taxes and an undeserved $9 really pushed my irritation beyond it's limit. The food had mediocre seasonings and felt like something I could do at home for half the price. I wouldn't come back here even if the food was free.
I’m Bolivian and this is not how Bolivian food is made. Service was not great or helpful at all. I was visiting family and I’m two hours away from This restaurant. I ordered 4 salteñas, sopa de kawi and chicharron. Chicharron was extremely dry, the salteñas were NOT fully cooked and the sopa de kawi was made with chicken, and chicken was raw. When I called they hung up the phone on me, started accusing me that I didn’t buy food from them, and they refused to refund me my money. I still have the receipt from this restaurant. Unfortunately my experience was not good and as a Bolivian I do not recommend this restaurant. I had put the salteñas back into the oven because they were so undercooked. Check your orders before you leave their restaurant if you decide to order from them. No estaba bien hecho la comida no se vale asi no deben tratar mal a sus clientes. I had to put the salteñas back in the oven for them to cook.
I had this experience in 2021 with this restaurant. I had not shared it in Google but I had it in Tripadvisor. Here it goes: “We purchased 4 bolivian corn cakes recently and by the time we got home they were rotten, dark inside and with bad taste. We called to complain and the owner did not really care. Mediocre places like that are a shame for bolivian and latin culture. They do not make an effort to succeed or provide customer care or even good products because they know they will still sell no matter what. There is a total lack of a good quality bolivian restaurant in the area. Cause quite honestly this place is the definition of mediocrity and lack of effort to provide good products. Shame on you.”
