Hand ripped noodles are so good! Everytime I come to Tangram Mall I visit this place.
Xi’an Famous Foods became the Flushing choice for dinner after reading through countless Reddit threads and after watching Mark Wiens feature the restaurant on his YouTube channel. While they have opened up a few more restaurants throughout the city, I was most curious to try out their Flushing location. Luckily the place was not busy by the time I arrived (5:00PM), but around 10-15 minutes after, food delivery services and locals stopped in to order. The menu is quite small and simple, but they are most known for their Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles (N1), which has a numbing and tingly spicy that slowly creeps up on you as you eat it. The owner of the restaurant best recommends the “regular spicy” option if you are a first timer, but you may adjust the amount of spice to your taste. I do happen to hold a higher tolerance for spicy food, so I didn’t think it was unbearable by any means. What is featured in their dishes are their hand-pulled noodles, as advertised all over their restaurant. Upon receiving my order, I first noticed how large the portion was and how thick and long the noodles were. I paid about $10 for the dish (not including drink), which was more than reasonable. Picking up the noodles with my chopsticks proved to be a challenge, but once I took a bite, I immediately fell in love with the dish that I did finish my whole plate. The lamb was so tender and complemented well with the cabbage and scallions. The noodles were so chewy and very fresh, but went so well with the spicy sauce. I also tried out their tea which was a wonderful and refreshing pairing. Please come to this place if you’re in Flushing, and you are in for a treat. It’s a must to sit down to eat this dish to truly enjoy the freshness of the noodles!
Ridiculously Delicious.. in my 2 week trip.. I went there thrice and to 3 locations. Its spicy.. and yummy. Best part of the experience other than the food is the staff and their customer service, they dont accept tips even if you want to.. food was divine.. freshly pulled handmade noodles.
🍜 food: Hand pulled noodles are freshly made, chewy and super delicious. It’s a flavour bomb! Loved it ( I ordered cumin hand pulled noodles) 🏠Ambience: the restaurant is beautiful but the stone designed chairs are quite uncomfortable for short people like me. 🚽 There’s restrooms inside the restaurant so Yay!
sometimes i end up at xi’an famous foods without really planning it. just wandering around, a little hungry, thinking about nothing in particular. i walk in, order the noodles, wait a few minutes. nothing emotional about it. just routine. the bowl shows up and it’s good. it’s always good. thick noodles. real spice. lamb that tastes right. it’s straightforward food that doesn’t pretend to be anything else. i respect that i remember anthony bourdain tried this place years back. he called it something different. something worth noticing. that sticks with me because the guy had eaten his way through the world and didn’t hand out praise for fun. so i sit there, take a few bites, let the heat build. nothing dramatic happens. it’s just a meal that hits the mark every time. familiar in a way that feels solid. if i had to rate it, i’d give it five stars. not because it changed my life. just because it does its job, and it does it well, and that’s more rare than people think.
This place is the best I’ve had in a long time. Noodles are legit good and I’m Taiwanese American from LA and grew up eating food from the San Gabriel Valley there! I got the A1 Liang noodles and it was so flavorful; spice levels weren’t painful but it wasn’t shy either. The noodles had great chew and bite. The portions were very generous too. Worth the stop in. Just a few blocks from the metro too. So convenient!
Fantastic food. The in-house chili oil adds an amazing flavor to all their dishes. I got the Biang Biang noodles and the lamb RouJiaMo/“sandwich” and both were divine. I can’t handle that much spice so i chose the less spicy option. The service was fast and ordering was easy. Plus the prices were very reasonable. Would stop by for lunch again
I used to work here a few years ago and recently stopped by again — the food and service are still just as great. The noodles were packed with flavor, and the spices smelled amazing. They’ve added two new drinks to the menu, and both were solid, but the orange one was my favorite — super refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. Glad to see they’re still killing it! Definitely worth checking out if you ever stop by
They have a few vegan options. I had A1, N8, and the chrysanthemum tea. A1: Can’t go wrong with LiangPi. The seitan was a bit rubbery but everything else was perfect. 10/10 N8: No complaints. 10/10 Chrysanthemum tea: This tea tasted like what I’d imagine feet would taste like if it were a Lacroix drink. 5/10
Haven’t been here since it renovated but it’s still so good. We ordered the spicy beef noodles on soup, I got it extra spicy. There were plenty of beef, the noodles were handmade, thick, and super long. They were so filling and it was hard to finish the noodles near the end. It wasn’t as spicy for me since I have high tolerance. Next time I will need to get the cumin burger!!!
Been watching clips on YouTube on this chain during the pandemic and really a must visit when visiting NYC. Ordered the signature spicy cumin lamb hand-ripped noodles (dry). As the owner suggested (from the poster on the wall and not from him directly of course..haha), their dish needs to be eaten with it's signature chili, but one can ask for a milder spicy but can't do with no chili at all to get their intended dining experience. As someone who likes chili and can take spicy but not too spicy, I went with the standard spicy and wow, the owner was right. It was really good. At first bite, I was like..hmm...this isn't so spicy, but as soon as you take more and more bite, the spicy does come out slowly but in a good way. I like that the chili provide the right amount of tang, spiciness and flavor. The noodles, lamb and vegetables also soak up the chili nice and evenly which was really impressive from my opinion. When it comes to mixing ingredients with chili/oil and sometimes it can get overly-soaked with the oil causing numbness which one would not be able to taste the entire dish properly. Some chili oil are also way too numbing spicy but the chili oil use at Xi'an Famous Food is really just perfect. The hand-ripped noodles were also amazing, chewy and fresh. Really enjoyed this dish and hope to be back. Highly recommended and you can find them at different locations in NYC. For a chain, this is really very well done.
Absolutely delicious noodles and dumplings. We ordered the beef noodles extra spicy, it was numbingly good. The spicy and sour lamb noodles was equally scrumptious. Dumplings was a good portion, filled with juicy meat but the sauce was a tad too salty. Tofu was good but not exceptional. Would definitely come back for more every time in town.
We checked this place out based on the recommendation of Andrew Zimmerman's show. It was very delicious. We ordered spicy lamb noodles, chicken noodles and a beef soup. It not a fancy place but it's very chill and the cashier was very helpful. There are no servers so you have to grab your meal when your number is called and you have to clear your table when you are finished. The drink selection was soda and tea. Its definitely worth a try if you are in the neighborhood.
Really good food. Try not to order too much you're first time here. I ordered 3 dishes and barely ate half of it. Had the spicy cucumbers, stir fry Liang Pi noodles, and spinach dumplings, all extra spicy. Chili oil is incredible, though food was covered in it. Can take extras to go. No table service. Recommend getting there early on weekends. We went at 11:30am Sunday to Flushing and it was pretty empty. Decore is cute and place is clean.
Amazing flavors that's tangy, spicy and numbing! These are dishes you don't get from the normal Chinese restaurants that's usually Cantonese. The default spice level is quite spicy, though still bearable. Good news is you can choose low spice or extra hot, to accommodate your level of spiciness!
Today I bought a cold noodle, a woman made it for me. I took it home and opened it. It was really bad. I don't want to eat from this place anymore. I used to go there often. A young man made it. The taste and color were really good. There were not many people there today. I packed it home and opened it. The taste was wrong. The most important thing is that she made it in one minute. But I asked her, it's ready. She said it was very simple to make. But the quality is too bad. It's too deceptive. I can't eat it. For take away, she mixed the cold noodles with the sauce, not taking responsibility for the customer's food. I threw it directly into the trash can, it was disgusting.
