We got off the Thruway after finding this place pop up while looking for a lunch break. It's about a 5 minute detour off of 90 but worth it. Why eat fast food when you can get fresh food fairly fast and be back on the road without sacrificing too much time? In fact, we liked it so much, we stopped again on our way back out of state. Between the 4 of us we tried a good sampling of items: sandwiches, salads, paninis, soups, and drinks. Everything was really tasty. They make your salad to order from a wide variety of ingredients. My favorite item was probably the "Mediterranean" panini. Well worth a short detour!
Amazing everything is all that I can say. I've never been disappointed, if time allows weekday lunches come from here - which is absolutely stunning to me as this place was this popular for more years than I can recall, and they have NEVER disappointed me, EVER!!!!! Give them a try, you won't regret it!
Best soup in the world: Tamato Mushroom. Hands down. 😋Turkey bacon sandwich is great too & the chocolate chip scones. However, I wish they went back to longer hours.
Ordered online, went in for pick up, and they told me they were out of a baked good I wanted, and gave me a generous amount of another baked good to make up for it. The sandwiches were delicious, as always. Terrific little spot!
I've always LOVED their potato soup. The food is great and the staff is friendly. Always a busy place. Now, there's even more reason to love them... as they've ditched the Styrofoam to-go containers and switched to compostable spoons!
I love this place! Great food. Tomato soup is delicious. Really good sandwiches and coffee. Love the funky atmosphere. I go there whenever I'm in Fredonia.
Much more than a wonderful bakery! Breakfast & lunch, generous portions at good prices and friendly to vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free folks. Above all DELICIOUS, homemade and fresh food with friendly, accommodating service. Don't miss this one!
The tomato mushroom soup is the reason I went here, it is one of my favorite soups. Paired with a panini or toast, I'll go back any time. The dining room is a little small, so I usually choose takeout, but during the weekdays or seems like a nice place for students to study while getting a little something to eat. I feel the soup is a bit expensive, at least the takeout dish, for it's size but it's worth the cost
The staff is always super friendly. The potato soup could have used a bit more salt (I didn't see any salt packets or shakers out to use) but thats purely a personal preference. The gluten free cookies are delicious!
I'm not from this area, but the Upper Crust is a tradition every time I'm in town. I've been coming back for a decade, and I'll always get a peanut butter hot chocolate. This time we tried some of their lemonades and got the Strawberry Basil Lemonade and the Blueberry Mint Lemonade and they were both amazing! It went fantastic with our meals (soup and a sandwich) and I'll definitely be coming back for those too!
Some of the best homemade bread and soup I ever had. The ingredients are always top notch and so fresh. The Sandwhiches/panini's are huge and the bread is thick. Half is enough to fill you up. They have homemade salad dressings that are the best I ever had. The salads are big and veggies are fresh and crisp with many toppings to choose from. The prices are actually very reasonable for the quality you get. I'd say it's about the same price point as Panera bread but the food quality is 10 times better and obviously everything is homemade. If you're craving something sweet, you must try to peanut butter hot chocolate. Best hot chocolate you'll ever have. Their double chocolate cookies are also delicious.
Stopped in here while passing through town and I am happy I did! Staff was very friendly and the location was beautiful. It was definitely much more expensive than other similar shops I had been too and it took a very long time to get our food but it was very good!
Best turkey sandwiches in the history of turkey sandwiches. You can fight me on this...I will win. They also have tons of baked goods made fresh daily, cherry turnovers are my favorite. I love their new selection of vegan cookies, and that's not a thing I ever expected to say (read above statement re: turkey sandwiches). Really love having this quality option available to us in such a small town.
Baked goods are great. The lemon loaf is fantastic. Brought my partner who felt iffy about the menu when seen online. He was very satisfied with the portion and found it to be a delicious entre. Always get the cookies.
quaint coffee joint, not ready to disappoint! a great spot for a quick bite with all-day breakfast and a killer list of panninis/lunch options. can only speak on the black coffee, without a doubt does the job! 💥
Great meal! I know it was only a salad but what a salad! Roasted brussel sprouts, cauliflower and chic peas! Bombdigity! My friend had the tomato mushroom soup and a great looking panini!Friendly and efficient staff! Place was packed, very good vibe!
Wow this place has incredible food. The sandwiches are gigantic, piled so high it's hard to eat. Tried the Tommy club, Billy club, tomato mushroom soup and creamy potato soup... All we're delicious. I need to come back to this place on a regular.
Amazing food. Every time I walk into this place its full. The smell of the food makes me want to order everything. They have amazing backed goods and their frozen hot chocolate is to die for. This is a must stop if your in town.
Amazing little treasure! You can actually taste the love that goes into each menu item. Nice atmosphere, fast friendly service and fresh, wonderful food. Try it and I can promise that you will be happy that you did!
Absolutely delicious. Have had a couple of their soups, & this Turkey sandwich was brought home to me. Even an hour later sandwich was not soggy, but filling & scrumptious.
The matcha, lattes and cappuccinos are tasty. They generally have gluten free goodies. The paninis are delicious- gf bread available too!
Highly highly highly recommend! The cookies are to die for. The mediterranean panini is phenomenal, bursting with so many flavors! Also plenty of healthy options as you can create your own salads and bowls! Perfect lunch spot!
Love, love, love Upper Crust. They opened when I was like 8. I've been going her for years. I ordered their 'clouds' for my wedding goodie bags. Pretty sure my husbands uncle would come back to Fredonia just to get a cloud at upper crust. Also just ordered a dessert tray for my po parents anniversary party. Not a bite was left! Lunch foods are amazing. Potato rolls are a long time favorite. I always get a cookie, they are sooo good. Menu also caters to dietary restrictions. Great location to people watch, I like the garden that was in the back, wasn't there this year😟. Keep up the good work guys!
Great little store, fresh baked goods, home made daily, fresh home made soup made daily and surved with fresh made bread or gourmet sandwiches on hand cut fresh baked bread and top of off with a made to order coffee hot or cold for any of the standard soda pop. The store is built around the college crowd so the prices are not to bad either. All good for me.
Excellent food. Baked goods are outstanding and the portions on breakfast sandwiches and other items are generous. Really good coffee too.
5-20-25 grrr8 breakfast sandwich w/bacon unusual that there was only 1 soip fortunately the one we like tomatoe still served with there excellent bread Most recent visits, 2, there seems to be a different vibe. The interior has been updated somewhat nicely, I must add. The food is still very good, only 2 soups, and the bakery case seemed a little weak.
Cookies excellent! Breakfast sandwich very good but wrapped in tin foil , makes it soggy. Cinnamon bun stale. Honest opinion, customers always right . Customers would hope to be handled cautiously, not disagreed with. Always room for customer service tips. Fredonia is lucky to have a good place to gather.
I must say, I was a little disappointed to find they eliminated some of the best parts of this restaurant, especially the baked goods. Since moving out of the area, I plan my trips around stopping here to grab goodies to bring home, but now most of them are gone. It used to have the vibe of a local hangout, but it seems more commercialized now, which is sad. It's also more of a lunch spot than a bake house, but the food is still good. Please consider bringing back the pies!!
Good food. At first I thought it was a tad expensive, but for the large amount and excellent quality of the food it was spot on. The service was good, staff friendly, and the wait wasn't very long. Will definitely be going back. Would recommend. 5/5
As a tourist I was recommended to come to this shop by a few family friends! I came in today & absolutely loved this place! The cashier, who also made my drink, was so nice and really went out her way to make sure to tell me about more local spots she recommended for me and my husband to visit! We also got our food super fast and it was absolutely delicious! (I got the tomato mushroom soup🤩 SUPER YUMMY!)
In Fredonia teaching this summer and Upper Crust saved my caffeine addicted soul. Delicious coffee drinks, from indulgent sweet treats to a proper cortado. Baked goods are so fresh. Plenty of seating inside, so pleasant. Great service. They are doing it all right!
Upper Crust always provides great service and quality food/drink. Due to the general economic state, I think the prices are very fair for the portions received, the environment is very nice, and it is a great place for breakfast, or lunch. If you enjoy soup, I recommend the potato soup! Very homemade-esque style.
Awesome, alternative atmosphere and iced lattes. The soups are very flavorful. Their scones are very distinct and delicious. Oh, the cinnamon buns 👌
One of my favorite places to eat out. Higher quality food and ingredients, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I always eat the same thing when i go here a half of a Tommy club sandwich (they go overboard with lettuce tomatoes and cheese so i get "light" amounts of those and Potato soup (most the time its sold out in the afternoon because of how good it is) all in all, a great fredonia small business.
Excellent service! Excellent food! Had the Tommy Club (Turkey Club) Sandwich that was off the chain delish! Portions are gigantic! Great value for the $$! Also took in the Brown Butter Brownie... better find a buddy to share with... again, giant portion and very rich! Excellent way to top off the lunch and something to munch on whilst finishing the iced vanilla latte! I’ll be back for sure!! Two thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻
Best kept secret in the south towns. The absolute most delicious eggplant sandwich you can find. If you are an eggplant fan, love the parms, marinades, capanatina, ratatouille, etc. this sandwich will show you a fresh new option. The house made bread is phenomenally soft and crusty. The fresh slices of crisp tomato and lettuce are perfect. Topped with a nice line of mozzarella, and wrapped in a well seasoned breading, the pan fried eggplant cutlet is amazing. Not greasy or heavy at all. Melts in your mouth. I am fortunate to eat there once or twice a month in the summer/fall after the farmers market. Great job Upper Crust team! All of your other dishes are AMAZING too! And the service is always friendly and courteous no matter how busy the get. A true WNY gem. Thank you for everything!
Stopped here on our way out of town on a work trip and had a great breakfast! I got a maple latte and a breakfast burrito with avocado. They were out of meat add-ons today but it was fine because the burrito was delicious and filling. My coworker is vegan and there were plenty of options for her. She got avocado toast and said the bread was amazing!
Me and my partner went here for the first time and it was such a delight! The bakery has a nice cozy atmosphere which is perfect for winter! We also had the sweetest server, who was so kind with us and when she learned about my partners mango allergy, she went to check for a new blender just to make sure there was no cross contamination. Super lovely place all around!
I was pleasantly surprised on the serving size for the chicken salad sandwich. The sourdough is a fantastic combination for this sandwich. Iced matcha was great too!
The whole place is so cute and thoughtfully decorated—super clean, cozy, and just has a great vibe overall. Their turkey pesto sandwich is my go-to and I love their classic chocolate chip cookies. They’ve got that perfect sweet and salty combo.
In town visiting from Chicago and did not expect to find this GEM that I wished I had back home. That’s for sure!!! The homemade bread, thick turkey, delicious smoothies, amazing coffee (prob only good place here from what I’m gathering), oatmeal cookies! Take all my money and get me fat 😂 !
The food was excellent and the people inside were exceptionally friendly! My wife and son loved their food but... Guys...I ordered a breakfast BURRITO and this is what I got! (See picture) I'm from the south west and I'm willing to be your burrito consultant-for-hire! 😉😉 Aside from the "burritos" shape it tasted delicious! Thanks for delicious food and coffee guys!
Amazing. All local food, and locally owned. The food was delicious and reasobably priced. The creamy tomato soup is to die for. My ownly complaint is it took a long time for our food to come out, but the kitchen was understaffed. I reccomend it.
I had the turkey and cheddar panini, the tomato and mushroom soup and a cup of peanut butter hot chocolate. everything tasted fresh and was very appealing. the atmosphere was comfortable and free wifi is available. it was more expensive than I thought it would be (prices are not listed on the menu board) but it was quality food and very friendly service. I will definitely eat here next time I am in town.
Worth it for the soups and baked goods. The sandwiches are nice as well, I really have no complaints about this little delightful treasure in little ol Fredonia. It definitely has a monopoly on the place though, but they do a good job, you can smell them baking late at night for the next morning.
Fun little artisanal cafe and bakery. It's a little pricey, but, the baked goods are definitely big! The drinks are usually decent, but sometimes don't taste right (may not have been made properly- overly milky chai.) Enjoyable and fun atmosophere.
Very cute little cafe. Decent prices and a good variety. I got the turkey panini and it was very good. Who I went with got the tomato muwhr soup and they loved it !
The food is absolutely amazing! It is so so so so expensive for the hour wait time. Every time I order it’s around an hour to wait. And every time I go they are out of all their drinks except water. I’ve gone there 10 times in a year and every single time they were out of all the drinks. It is very pretty inside.
Vegan gluten free cookies and vegan muffins are amazing and not expensive like other places. I appreciate the vegan & gf options. Cool atmosphere to hang out in too. The kind of oat milk they use sucks - hoping they'll switch. Wasn't a fan of the breakfast sandwich or burrito. Vegan burrito was good though
I highly recommend the breakfast sandwich! Prices are high, but you got satisfying portions. I enjoyed the peanut butter hot chocolate too! Everything is given to you as to go, but containers are heavy duty! I had no idea they served beer & wine! Beware there is only seating for 20 inside! Front door is glass and slams loudly as people leave :(
Cute atmosphere. But prices have gotten much higher. Not as many mushrooms in tomato mushroom soup as before. I find the baked goods dry. It may because they sit out uncovered.
been going here for years and have recommended it to many friends! sandwiches are seriously big with fresh ingredients and some of the best bread ever! seriously, its got huge crust! yum! bit pricey, but a great place to get the occasional lunch with friends 🙂↕️
Their lunch is pretty good Prices are quite high Breakfast sandwich I would not recommend. The eggs were not real They were square and tasted like nothing Would be nice if the menu had prices I’ve never been to a restaurant that didn’t have prices listed for you to see
The customer service is adequate, the selection is not as good as other bakeries, but unfortunately because it's doing business in New York State in an economically depressed area beyond of the economy of the college there's a lot of obstacles and hurdles in their way. Otherwise it more caterers to an upscale crowd, but serves the area and it's regular customers well.
My family and I were very excited to see a local coffee shop in the town we were visiting as we have recently opened up a coffee shop in our town. The shop was cute, their food/bakery/drink selections looked amazing, and they seemed to be getting great business atleast while we were there. Our drinks came out fast and were exactly what we were looking for. The three star review is not for the quality of the shop (that was 5/5) but the customer service we were met with as soon as we walked through the door. I hate to comment on someone’s attitude as I’m more than aware and sympathetic to the fact that people may just be having a bad day. However, we were not met with an ounce of friendliness from the moment we walked in till the moment we walked out and that sucked. I can only account for one person as she helped us at the counter and made our drinks so I have no idea how the other employees are. I hope the customers that frequent our shop at home never receive that sort of service from us.
Prices have gotten higher and food quality not as good as it used to be. Eggplant on sandwich less than 1/8" thick. Just burned coating. Couldn't taste any eggplant.
Edit: They have further renovated the restaurant and it has killed every ounce of charm this place once had. I have been in three times since and the creamy potato soup has only been on the menu once. When I ordered it they did not give me bread as they use to. Their pizza that was incredible is now off the menu, but I was told that is temporary. They beefed up the drink making station which is nice. The new steamer no longer hollows like the screams of the damned. However I don't think I can go here to eat any longer and it will just be a nice place to stop for a hot drink. Their baked good have not changed those seem to have stayed the same and they now serve icecream. I have been coming here for years. I moved away for a couple years and when I came back I saw the store was remodeled and honestly it killed the vibe. There use to be a nice rustic feel, but with all the white paint it feels like a landlord discovered the minimalist tag on pintrest, but I digress. The best thing on the menu use to be their creamy potato soup, but I feel as though they changed the recipe slightly. It is not as good as before the remodel. Also it is inconsistant. There are times where it is incredible, and times where it is very liquidy and flavorless. However, their pizza is incredible. I have yet to have anything with red sauce, but their pistachio pizza is some of the best pizza I have ever had. Lastly my biggest complaint is their hours. Again before the remodel they closed at 7pm. Granted that could also be a covid thing, but being that this is the only true cafe in the town, it is a shame that they close at 4pm. I rave about their pizza to my friends and family, only to disappoint them to tell them they cant order it for dinner.
Three of us came in our bread was hard. Parts of the meal were missing and took forever to get. We sat for 45 minutes waiting for a salad a wrap two sandwich’s and two soups! Like no way that’s a bit ridiculous when there was no one in the place ordering.
I would give it 4 stars, but it was so loud we couldn't hear anything. These were really good sandwiches! It was not sliced deli meat, but real roasted turkey breast on very good wheat bread. My chai iced tea was over $4...ouch! This is pricey because of quality organic food and environmentally friendly packaging.
Staff wouldn't even serve me yesterday, I guess they were to busy with the one other customer, so I went to the competing coffee shop. Usually the staff is just ambivalent. Music is always way to loud. Food is decent but not worth the trouble. This place seems to only hire young white women.
The food is excellent. The service is bad. If you come in w/ friends, order all together to get your orders to come out around the same time. Took 20min for 2 of us and 50min for the other 2. Excuses were given even after one of the servers doubled checked what we ordered meaning they misplaced it. Or better yet, order at least 1 hour ahead of time between 11-2. They can’t handle online orders and in person orders during the rush.
BLT and soup . The bacon was horrible.... and all you could taste was burt food......soup was so so......pretty pricy for what I got . Not the same as they once were . Won't being going back .
Sadly disappointed by my last couple of visits, as Upper Crust was once my favorite. Potatoes were SEVERELY undercooked (crunchy) in the creamy potato soup, and the turkey is not the same caliber as what was present in the roast turkey breast sandwiches in the days when Colleen and Jim first opened. Staff is always friendly. But the food severely disappointed.
Good atmosphere and nice staff BUT the items I ordered had ZERO flavor!! We are visiting from Rochester and purchased a chocolate chunk cookie and a blueberry cloud. Neither items had FLAVOR!! I could NOT detect even a hint of vanilla, butter, and most importantly SALT to help enhance flavors. It was an absolute TASTELESS disappointment. My hope is that whomever cooked that day might have somehow forgotten to add salt and other ingredients. I guess it’s a good thing they sell other things because I cannot see how they could remain in business if relying on their desserts alone.
Ordered 4 sandwiches, a quart of soup, a couple pastries and two drinks online and was told the order would be ready in 35 minutes. We walked in at the correct time (3:15) to get our order and the cashier organized all of the pastries before asking what we wanted and we told her the name for the order and she told us it wasn’t ready yet. About 10 minutes later we were given our order and left to eat elsewhere. Not a huge deal but the put our hot sandwiches on top of our cold sandwiches so the cold sandwiches weren’t very cold. On one of the sandwiches, we asked for no tomatoes, and there were tomatoes on the sandwich. Obviously we were able to pick the tomatoes off but regardless the order wasn’t correct. On another sandwich, we asked for vegan mozzarella but got vegan cheddar. The sandwich was good anyways but if I pay extra for a specific cheese I should get the right one. The food was great and everyone enjoyed but the fact that the service isn’t great, there was long wait time and there were a couple mistakes on the order made us slightly irritated. Of course I understand that no one’s perfect and maybe the employees are short staffed or just having a bad day but this experience is similar every time I come here. It’s even a well known fact that the food takes forever to be ready here when you talk to other people in Fredonia. Obviously something needs to be changed to make it a better experience for the customers.
First and foremost do not eat here, if you have food allergies. It’s really unfortunate because I do enjoy the food there but multiple instances have occurred where I have received an order, while designating my allergies ad requested, and have still gotten food that has been contaminated or had the allergen in the food. They really should consider simply putting the allergens on the menu as I’ve suggested in the past as they can’t be counted on to consider these concerns. It could be very dangerous for people with more severe allergies than mine. People with food allergies are able to sufficiently monitor their own concerns when the menu items are appropriately labeled.
Went for lunch last week with my daughter. I got creamy potato soup and a Caesar wrap. The wrap was fine but the potatoes were hard. I should have complained at the time but I ate about 1/4 of it and just took it home. A couple days later attempted to warm it up and it took 5 1/2 minutes in a microwave to get soft potatoes. (I could have made a small baked potato). After all the heating the "soup" was gone and I had some flavored potatoes (mostly due to adding cheese) for lunch. Hard potatoes in soup really makes for a very unpleasant lunch and I was very disappointed as I am a soup lover.
This place was good but, they have gone down hill. I could of broken the window with their,"fresh cookies" Standards have fallen off. Eat at your own risk.
Prices...where are they? I hate ordering food from places that think prices are not needed. So yes they took almost $12 from me so I guess they don't care. All I got was a small latte and a cinnamon roll. Personally I think the cinnamon roll was dry and lackluster. My brother had one as well and thought it was decent so I guess I was too hard on it. I am. It planning on returning here based on the high prices for things that I don't know the price of.
Do Not recommend!!! First visit, I went only for drinks with my wife. The cashier was unfriendly and the wait time was 45 min! Gave them a second chance, figured the cashier was having a bad day. Ordered a hot tea, cold drink and two breakfast sandwiches. It was the same cashier, and once again, very unfriendly, acting as though she was being bothered by the customers. The drinks came out at separate times(35 to 45 min later) and the sandwiches took an additional 45 min! On top of this, one sandwich was made incorrectly. If you want slow, unfriendly service, try it out! I know I Won't return...
Never go out so my lovely wife suggested this establishment. Ordered a blt and soup my wife also ordered a sandwich. An hour later I left my wife asked them for our 35 dollar pretentious sandwiches, got them eventually. Totally disappointed will never be back will not recommend will discourage every one I talk to.
My friend and I ordered two coffees and a Tuna Melt. The coffees came out quickly and was very good. But we had been waiting well over a half hour for one sandwich, whilst other customers who came in after us were getting served their food first. We came here for a quick service of good quality food, the quality is there but the waiting was hardly worth it. Improve this please. I’m afraid we’re not coming back for a Tuna Melt.
More than 100% disappointed with a place I had so high hopes for. .. let’s begin with hours posted online are not accurate .. they are only open until 4pm .. online it says they’re open until 7pm. The staff were clearly annoyed when we walked in at about 3:30. After waiting in line for several minutes and still believing they were open until 7 it was very confusing when we were informed they were closing and most menu items weren’t available. That being said they turn off the pizza oven, panini presses and indoor heat well before closing time (4pm!!) 🤷♀️ No pizza, no panini, and out of most menu items otherwise. Steadfast to get a delicious, healthy meal .. We ordered a soup, a salad and a cold sandwich (out of what was available). The staff made sure we felt their unhappiness with our timing and intention to still order food to go. I’ve never felt so unwelcome. I’ve never experienced a small business not want my money more. We got our food and ran for the safety of our vehicle. As a lifelong chef and a small business owner .. I can say it’s amongst the worst food and service I’ve ever had. I wanted it to be good!! Even after the rough treatment, I hoped to enjoy some healthy delicious food!! We paid $50 for a cup of soup, a sandwich, a salad and 2 cans of beer. They were so ready to get us out of there that we walked out with open containers. The veggie soup was shockingly sweet and all sorts of wrong. The sandwich .. buffalo eggplant.. .(we asked for gorgonzola to be added) .. was absolutely inedible. The bread was over-proofed, lacking in any texture or flavor, extremely dry, so thick it couldn’t be bitten by any human mouth and was over toasted. The eggplant was the least amount of ingredient. In addition to the previously described bread it was layered with massive cold unripe, unseasoned tomato slices, a ton of cold unseasoned avocado, cold & wet bulky lettuce and a scant amount of under seasoned slightly warm eggplant .. all without a trace of “buffalo-ness” and a vague dusting of gorgonzola. The salad was decent. Great vinaigrette. I hope they improve .. there’s a serious lack of decent food in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area.
Ordered a large cappuccino and received a large cup. 50% of the coffee was missing and 25% of it was foam; not to mention it was lukewarm at best. I'm not exaggerating. Other party members were also unsatisfied with their drinks. At least it only cost $22.
I've been in the area for 30 years and have enjoyed their food however I've noticed the decline in the quality of the food and the increase of the price. I rather support mom and pop stores but upper crust is now lower crust.
I usually enjoy going to upper crust, but after my most recent visit, it ended up me going to the hospital. After triple checking with the girl at the register, she assured me that there were no nuts in the cookies that I was purchasing, and I had even ate them before. Lo and behold later that day when I ate them, I went into anaphylactic shock and was taken in an ambulance to the hospital due to the fact that they had just changed their recipe to include cashew butter in the cookie, which I later confirmed with them on the phone.
The MOST expensive half sandwich and cup of soup I have ever seen in any restaurant and I am speaking of restaurants in NYC, Florida, Carolinas, CA and more. What’s even worse is that the food was marginal at best. Glad I was just visiting the area as I will NEVER return. WOW!!!
Had a bad experience here with being over charged and haven't been back, and won't be. Their food is usually good but my bacon on my BLT was cold and had the hard white grease on it. I was charged for soup and bread but never received the bread bc apparently they watch your carbs for you, lol. Then don't charge me for it as I was taking it home to my husband anyway!
I have always been a fan of Upper Crust, and I have recommended them to people in the past. It saddens me to write this. I have had 2 bad experiences in my last 2 visits that have prompted this review. Last time, they tried to give my order to another table. When I gently told them it was my to go order and not the order for the other table, they argued with me and set the order down at the other table in front of the other party. It turned out that it was my order, and they picked it up off the other table and boxed the same food they set down in front of other people for me to take home. I did not make a fuss and took it home. This time, I waited for my order for 50 minutes. It was not busy when I ordered - there was one person there when I arrived. They served multiple parties who ordered, received, and finished their food while I waited. At about 40 minutes in, they gave me an incomplete order and had to try again. When they handed me the complete order at the 50 minute mark, there was no recognition of, explanation for, or apology for, the wait. Even an explanation of why it took so long - like they needed to make something I ordered fresh, for example - would have gone a long way. I have always tried to support small businesses in our area. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to the Upper Crust any time soon.
I’ve never seen anything like this in a food establishment, and I submitted a report to the health department. This bakery has one of the worst cockroach infestations I’ve ever seen. The back hallway has maybe 65-100 small dead cockroach nymphs on the floor (as of 7/8/25) belly up, which indicates a very active infestation. I don’t want to know how many that means reside in the kitchen and in the dry ingredients where they lay their eggs. I ordered food and drink before walking down the hallway to use the restroom, and then decided I’d be better off not consuming either. There is no way that the staff is unaware of the number of dead bugs in their hallway, and the negligence is what amazes me, how could you leave that there for people to see? It’s wild. This place used to be a town fixture. I’m so dissapointed, we spent 35$, ate nothing, and now we don’t want to come back for scones anymore, which used to be a tradition of ours. Please clean your kitchen, hire an exterminator, and at the very least vacuum the visible dead bugs all over your public areas? I also felt that the young woman who made my beverage was rude. She remade my drink twice because she kept putting espresso in it. I wouldn’t have said anything, but If I consume that much caffeine I can have a medical event. So it was pretty concerning that she was so rude to me, and didn’t understand that a chai tea, unless ordered “dirty” meaning with expresso, should never be served with a shot of caffeine. I asked her to remake it, saying “Hey, I’m sorry, I can taste that there’s coffee in this and I can’t drink coffee or espresso because of my medication” and I watched her remake it and still add a shot of espresso in it again - it felt like she was doing it on purpose which didn’t make sense to me. That’s very dangerous to people who have to monitor their caffeine intake. We had also placed scones for pre-order about 3 hours prior to our arrival at the store, with scones for the whole family. This order was marked as accepted and being made, so our entire family planned their mealtime around this. And when we arrived, we were told that this was in error, that they don’t even make scones during the week, and a confused employee must have marked the order as ready. This was pretty frustrating and disappointing as well, but maybe ultimately for the best, as we didn’t feel like eating anything from this place anyway given all the lil bug friends we found. Photos attached. We even called to notify the staff after leaving yesterday about the massive number of dead cockroaches in the back hallway, and when we passed by the business today I popped in to see out of curiosity if they had cleaned them up…they were still there so photos of the dead cockroaches have been attached.
This was at one time the best place to go in Fredonia for lunch, I used to work here and everyone I visit NY I stop by but lately it’s really gone downhill. Today they decided not to do their “world famous” soups because they take “too long to make” “so we decided not to offer it today” in spite of people around us enjoying soup…. Ordered their gluten free option for my friend only to find out after we paid and were waiting that they do not have gluten free bread. We got here at 11:45am, not an unreasonably early or late time to expect lunch from a lunch spot that closes at 3 Hopefully they turn it around - it’s really one of the best places in the area when they try. **reply to owner: Thank you for your speedy reply! The reality of the situation is that the reason I used quotation marks is because those were the exact words / reasons the young woman at the cash register used. It was only after we paid for our meal and were waiting for our food that we learned the actual reality of the situation, was that they were making new soup and it was a 20 Minute wait- had I heard that originally we all would have happily waited for the soup as I’m only here once a year and the soup is the biggest draw for Me! Hopefully I’ll get sometime soon! Thanks!
