Yummy food and excellent service. This is what I would say about Good Neighbor Restaurant. The restaurant is not very busy when we have our table at around 6:30pm on Sunday. But lots of customers are coming in a little after we have our table. The dining room is full at around 7pm. We’re fortunate to have a table before everyone else comes. We are lucky because we can have a delicious dinner at a very reasonable price. Most of the dishes we ordered are of above-average to excellent quality. The best thing that impressed us was their customer service. The lady who served our table went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal. I loved my experience at Good Neighbor Restaurant and cannot wait to go back.
It’s a great mom and pop’s authentic Chinese restaurant. Great food, service, and atmosphere. Parking is easy. The 3 dishes package is also recommended.
Wow! Such an amazing spot for family dinner. Cantonese Cafe style with good service. I will for sure visit again!
Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant holds a special place in our hearts as our go-to spot for family dinners. Our love affair with their delicious cuisine dates back to their days next door to the big building in the same parking lot, formerly Lucky's. Their food is unrivaled in the area, boasting the finest Chinese flavors that keep us coming back time and time again. What sets them apart is their personalized service; they greet us like old friends and already know our favorite orders. It warms our hearts when they ask about other family members who couldn't join us. Even during busy times, the wait is never unbearable, a testament to their efficient service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it's a cherished part of our family traditions.
We came for dinner to check this place that we've heard good things about. The food quality and portions were very good. The service was efficient and the atmosphere was fine. We would certainly come back. Being at a stand alone building in a shopping certer, there was plenty of parking. The restaurant had plenty of tablrs for big and small groups. The service was efficient. I would consider this a homestyle restaurant, where besides ordering a la carte you can get 3 dishes (from a separate list) for a set price ($35.99 at this review) with soup (dine-in only). Additional dishes after the 3 are $11.99 each. For this set-up your choices are numerous including such choices as fried flounder, various claypot dises, stir fried vegetables, meat dishes, and noodle dishes. White rice is $2 per order. For 3 people we had the spicy green beans with ground pork, the seafood tofu claypot, and the taro root chicken claypot. The first that arrives after ordering is the soup. On this day, it is corn and egg flower soup. A nice and light soup to stimulate the appetite. The green beans came out next. Fresh from a very hot wok it had great flavor. It was hard to stop eating it once you start and it's especially good accompaniment with white rice. The claypots took a little bit longer, but worth the little bit of wait. Both had flavorful vegetables (cabbage, carrots, etc) on the bottom. The seafood one had big chunks of cod, shrimp, fish paste, and fried tofu. The taro chicken pot had big slices of chicken, taro, shitaki mushrooms. Both had deep flavor without being too salty. We had enough leftovers for another meal. The atmosphere is casual and clearly they do a good take out business and many diners are repeat customers.
Since Rose Garden closed, this is our new go to. Everything is good here!
Found this place in the middle of many other Chinese restaurants because I was craving beef chow fun. Glad I made the decision to go here. Service was great and felt like my younger days. The Chinese speaking loudly in the background and the dishes clanking. It was very reminiscing. We dined in and ordered the beef chow fun, wonton soup and spicy schezhuan pork belly. It was wonderful! We had some rice on the side and we ate every bit. The waitress came back to check on us to make sure we're doing okay. Overall, wonderful experience. It came down to around $50 for 3 dish and sides of rice. Would love to come back again in the future!

Friendly customer service. Big portions and great value. Highly recommend!
Love the food here, it's very tasty!
Good food nice service, always feel like home when we dine there.
Love this place! Great food, great price. Service is always excellent.
Good quality of food and very professional staff... I will become a regular customer I give 5 🌟
Long open hours and large amount of food. Price very cheap. They have 3 dishes for $25
Great place for Chinese takeout, big portions and excellent prices!
Good food for good price, bring your family
Good selections for their lunch special
nice selection of food choices
I always enjoy the food at good neighbor.
Excellent Good food and the best, good price and fast
The best Chinese in the Tri-City area and beyond! Finally!
Great place to do dinner with the family!
Good Food, and Fair Prices
Awesome fresh and good!
I went here for the first time on Saturday August 8th. For myself I ordered the seafood clay pot. That was good and had plenty of seafood. I also got the special of the day basil chicken. That was very tasty. For my mom I got chicken chow mein with curry and green beans with fish and light black bean sauce. The green beans were way over cooked. My mom said everything had good flavor. Everything was made per my request. I loved how there was nothing swimming in oil. Susan was great! I will be going back!
Best Chinese food I've ever had particularly the Mo Po Tofu. Great staff also and reasonably priced.
Always fresh and always consistent food is awesome The portion is a lot you won't be disappointed
First time here with Family. Great food, service in Family style. Plenty to enjoy. Thanks
Great Chinese food, friendly staff and reasonable prices
Great place for friends , family to go
Small restaurant but has tables for groups of 8-10. Food was tasty and service was quick and friendly.
We have been eating here since they opened. They have never changed great food and Great People
Great food at a good price, good portions. I frequent this place often. Recommend the hot and sour soup...
Great food great service. The lady that works here is amazing and even packs your to go food for you !
Always the lady waiter good at checking if we need anything more, good food, good size quantities, vegetarian choices are ample...
Very reasonably priced, consistently good food! I come here all the time when I'm in the area!
Great food and the service is excellent.
Really good food, big portions, reasonable price. This is my go-to for chinese food in Newark
Great
Good tasty food. Friendly service. Weekly go to place for good Chinese food.
Amazing food and good price! Love all the items on their menu!
Food is tasty and not greasy which we appreciate. Portions are HUGE which is awesome. They still serve free soup as an appetizer which is a nice touch. Will be back - often.
Great fresh and tasty food! I've had their salt and pepper chicken many times and it's one of my favorite dishes to order from here. It's located away from the busy mall areas so the parking here is so easy. We ordered the fried rice, salt and pepper chicken and the beef, onions, soup and hot tea. This was a ton of food, plenty for leftovers abd the bill was less that forty dollars. These days, that is a bargain!
its was surprisingly good food. service was good. really nice food with good prices. the pepper beef is a little too oniony but good. update: this is now our goto for traditional Cantonese food. the service is great, the food is great and the service is always great.
Very good authentic Chinese food and American Chinese food. The quality is good. The price is very reasonable. Strongly recommended
Been coming here for 15 years. Food consistently good. Prices are cheap. They remember who I am and remember my orders. Plenty of parking. Accepts credit or cash
Good food ,very fast ,prices reasonable some time a little bit too busy for their staffs. It's a good restaurant. I will come again!
Your typical Chinese American budget mom and pop restaurant. They are pretty authentic and decent with this Cantonese cuisine with plenty of American Chinese only dishes. The price is unbeatable anywhere. But what you will probably enjoy most about this place is the service. These older ladies may not have the best English, but they are the most friendly and attentive staff. No scripted greetings from diner staff. But genuine and caring conversation. Many non-Asian customers here seem to be long time frequent customers. They brought their friends from out of town, they talked about their family members. It was enjoyable just to watch their interactions. This restaurant truly lives up to the name Good Neighbor. I am not exaggerating.
I've been coming here for over ten years, used to get the lunch special at least once a week when I lived nearby. Pretty much everything is good so choose whatever floats your boat. Like more Americanized Chinese food? Get the fried rice or chow mein (try the tomato beef pan fried noodles if you're dining in). Want something more authentic? Check out anything on the choose 3 dish special on the back menu. Rock cod clay pot or any clay pot dish is so good with rice. Also try the shredded pork with yellow chives and bean curd.
First time here yesterday to pick up food for my siblings while my parents are on a cruise. 5 dishes for 77$ fed a family of 5 adults. Salt pepper pork, honey walnut prawns, tofu seafood clay pot, pea spouts in garlic, and clams in black bean sauce. I should have taken photos. prawns still crispy inside its sauce. All tasted great and not too salt or greasy. Im definitely going to come back, i really loved the braised tofu n seafood claypot. I think it’s the best way to eat tofu.

Good food ,very fast ,prices reasonable some time a little bit too busy for their staffs. It's a good restaurant. I will come again!
This is the fave family casual restaurant to visit and eat in the neighborhood. Food is often tasty and good -- dine in or take out. For birthdays and long life, the crispy fried noodles with sauce and toppings is wonderful 👍, ditto the fish fried rice, sweet and sour pork, honey walnut shrimp, chicken corn soup and steamed chicken. Family has been coming here 20+ years! It's been so long, that this review is so late in complimenting their nice friendly and quick staff. Thank you for being in the neighborhood 🙏.
Not the friendliest people, but their 3 for $25 is a fantastic deal for what we had. Hot tea came right away. Ordered the eggplant not spicy, walnut prawns so crunchy and crispy flounder absolutely yummy. We also added wonton soup, it was just right. My mother is a regular there and trying it for the 1st time, I'll definitely be back.

Good food, good price, don't expect anything more.
authentic chinese food and a family (+ extended family) fave
Great delicious food, food service, but a little dated
Good Authentic Chinese food, fast service, nice staff and owner.
Good and cheap Chinese. Service is good. Family friendly.
Good is great for the price. Restaurant is a hole in a way.
Authentic Chinese food. Don't come here for Panda Express type food.
The best Chinese food & wor won ton
Green beans and black bean sauce is great here.
Pretty decent food, only one of a few places in Newark you can find clams with black bean sauce. They also have a spinach with garlic stir fry that is very nice.
Good food. Good prices. Gets busy during dinner time. If ordering to go, try to order a little early. I find myself waiting to get my food after ordering my food 15 to 20 minutes before pick up.
Big portions, good flavor and great price. Good values.
The food is good. You get big portions for a good price
It's ok chinese food.
Food is great. Some waitresses not too friendly.
I was only there one time, but if my favorite place is closed I'll go back, give them another shot.
I have only ate there once but the food was very good, going again tonight for dinner.
In-laws always order to go from this restaurant whenever we visit them. The food was tasty and not too oily. Portions were good for the prices as well. I wish we had more places like this back in Austin.
Consistently reliable and fast service. Huge portions. Certain items are better than others - I like the salt and pepper fish, or basically any of the fried seafood (including a nice portion of Walnut shrimp) but my mom loves their won ton soup. Some chicken is good, especially the breaded ones. I don't think I'd order beef here. Seafood, noodles, and veggie dishes are their best.
Great old school Chinese food without the unnecessary fancy decor nowadays. Can't complain. Very affordable but nothing fancy. They make above average tasty dishes. Good place to go with your immediate family but don't go for presentation.
I came with my family to celebrate my grandfather’s birthday since it’s his favorite restaurant to go to. I remember when they used to have a fish tank, which is now removed. The place hasn’t really changed ever since I was a lot younger and it’s looks much older. Perhaps, renovation can help. We selected different entrees, which are fairly cheap. The food is good though, but the issue is that the flounder got smaller in size is that we easily finished the whole thing. Another issue is the service, because we have to go up to them and ask for waters. There were times that my dad had to go up to them at least twice already. There may be other requests, but easily forgot what else we asked. I also like how they probably kept their work phone since I’ve been hearing the same ringtone for decades.
My family likes going here for our Chinese food cravings. Not sure why, the food is just ok. We got the Beef Stew and the meat was kind of dry and the sauce (or lack of) was pasty. My favorite was the String Beans with Ground Pork though - that had a lot of flavor! Beef Chow Fun was decent too. I would probably get those dishes again for sure.
Ordered sizzling rice soup, green beans and a braised tofu dish. While wife was in the bathroom, I starting ordering, not knowing that she had already ordered and the waitress made a point to tell me that ordering any green bean dish would cost a dollar more due a shortage of green beans. That seemed kind of odd since the first thing I noticed when we sat down was a giant box of fresh green beans sitting on a table no more than 10 feet away from our table. When I relayed my experience to my wife, she said the waitress didn't mention that at all to her. Ok, so after this weirdness, we waited for our order. After an extended period of time, the sizzling rice soup arrived. When the waitress poured the rice into the soup, I knew right away the rice was not hot since the whole idea of sizzling rice soup is that the rice is supposed to be scorching hot so that when it is dropped into the soup, it makes a nice hissing noise. Not only was the rice not heated up, the soup itself was barely lukewarm. I called the waitress over to fix this issue. A few more minutes later and the green bean dish and tofu dish arrived. Neither could remotely be considered hot.
Ordered takeout for 3 items. Steamed pork patty with salted fish, fried squid and cabbage dish. Fried squid didn’t taste like anything but jalapeño. It was missing salt. Steamed pork was good. Our cabbage dish had several spots of black char probably from a dirty pan/wok. I likely wouldn’t come back unless I’m too lazy to go further out.
Great deal on a lot of food at a reasonable pricd, but Ive definitely had more tasty food

Good value for lunch
good amount of food.. for the price.. taste is hit and miss...
Very cheap, the taste was not so bad.
Nothing fancy just average good Chinese food. Average price. Good amount of food. Food comes out fast. Typical Asian waitress so don't be surprised to get that moody sass. That they blame on the busyness. They were busy but not that busy 😳
I can say the quality of their food depends on the availability of the ingredients necessary to make them good tasting. Cooking the food despite the lack of it is a no no for me. We do dine in this place and strangely I believed the quality of their cooking depends on who the other cook is. Thus, inconsistent quality and variable taste is a minus factor for me. I don’t like shortcutting the recipe just to satisfy their daily sales. The place also needs sprucing up to look cleaner.
The customer service needs to better. Especially for the lady with the short bob haircut, she needs to work on that. When I asked if I can pay for my takeout order while it was still being prepared, she just gave me an annoyed look and walked away. A quick yes or no answer would have sufficed. Eventually I was able to pay, but I wish I had a better experience. She was definitely not acting like a good neighbor. Food is good but I will not be going back!
Looking for new place for Honey Walnut prawns. My go to places closed down. So disappointed. The shrimp were large and tender but the dish was very salty..not much sweetness at all. The shrimp and breading had an unpleasant aftertaste. Old oil? Pecans even tasted burnt. Rice was kinda dry and tough. I had already ordered to go items and at home the won tons in soup were very soggy.
We went here for late lunch. Their dishes are good. Some are not worth the price though. From the beginning the lady server seems rude. We are ordering and she keeps asking us "you're not ready right?" She said it so many times. Of course, its our first time to go there and we need to look at their menu and double check we are ordering what we wanted and since theres 10 of us we're asking everyone else what they like. So yeah thats kinda irritating. Next, we are asking about the party tray pricing, while my other Aunt is asking she" Shush" her while she's talking, it's really rude. We are just asking the price since there is nothing listed on the menu she gave us. And then, when we are about to leave, she stopped us because she wanted us to to choose the amount of tip that they already put in the receipt. We didnt follow their tip suggestion as it isn't mandatory. She stopped us outside and told us to change the tip we put in. And we asked her is it mandatory to follow the suggested tip amount, she said "IT'S OKAY, I WILL REMEMBER YOU". And we're like wow, that's not a good customer service kinda threatening. So we're not going back there. I'm giving stars for the food but for the service it's zero star.
This was my first time here but I was with 3 friends who had been here before and highly recommend the place. We had a server who appeared to either not be happy at her job or maybe just a bad day. We had asked for separate checks and 3 of us paid in cash putting up $44.00, for a 36. total. i was informed that i could not use my credit card and would also have to pay cash. Before i could pay, she took the tray with the 44$; however because there were only 2 receipts for the 3 meals, she brought back change for 34. and insisted that 2 of us had not paid. She insisted there was only 34 on the plate and would not believe what we were saying as to how much she was given. Twice we told her to calm down and lower her voice. I made sure I added to the change she did return and gave enough to cover the 2 tabs. It was an embarrassing scene and my friends decided that they would not be coming back. Neither will I.
The food is not authentic. The service was very bad.
Worst chinese food ever. Rude employees, Rude owner!
Egg rolls horrible change the recipe just vegetables add some chicken or pork
They messed up my order, and the waitress blamed the chef…they gave me green beans with no chicken and charged me $2 extra..they said the chef put the chicken on the other dish which my son ordered..what a joke. I didn’t leave a tip, and the waitress came after me about the tip😡 I will never go here again
We ordered bbq pork fried rice, chicken wings & beef with onions. Fried rice was bland & smelled strange. Chicken wings were over fried & flavorless. Beef w/onions were 70% onions w/rubbery thin slices of chew resistant beef. We left behind over 60% of our order. Service was minimal. Will not return.
My daughter and I ate lunch there for the first time. Asked for Orange Chicken and another two plates. The other two plates were what we asked for but the Orange Chicken was not right. My daughter knows I'm allergic to seafood so she tried the orange chicken. She said, "Mom, I don't think you should have the Orange chicken because I don't think it's chicken" I saw the waitress walk by and asked her if what we ordered was chicken. She was quickly walking by and looked down at the plate and said, "Ya,Ya Chicken" I un-peeled the orange crust from the dish and it turns out it looked like calamari or some form of fish. Once I saw her again, I asked are you sure this is chicken because I am allergic to seafood. She asked me why I'm allergic to seafood :( I told her that was a good question and would be sure to ask the ambulance why I was allergic once they got there. Her eyes opened wide - she did not know that I had not tried the stuff. Thank goodness for my daughters instinct in trying it first. To make matters worse she went to the back kitchen and what sounded like a scuffle she returned saying she would only charge for the other 2 plates that we did eat from. She knew it was their mistake and was apologetic. Needless to say she overcharged the other two plates. I told her I was not leaving a tip but would pay the price she was charging but showed her the menu with the correct price. She obviously was overcharging me to make up for their mistake. I told her I would never again eat at this restaurant. Be careful what you get. I do not recommend this place at all. There are much better, cleaner places to eat Chinese food in Newark.
I ordered Mongolian beef lunch ,and it was bad! Just 4 small pieces of beef and handful of uncooked onions. It was like onion salad.I will never buy lunch again at this place.
VERY VERY RUDE AND ARROGANT OWNER AND SERVERS. FOOD IS MARGINAL. FULL OF OIL. ALMOST NO CHICKEN IN THE CHICKEN FRIED RICE. ONLY ONE PARK OF HOT SAUCE. IF YOU ASK FOR MORE THEY TELL YOU RUDELY IT IS 60 CENTS. OVERALL NOT EVEN A ONE STAR!!! SAVE YOURSELF FRUSTRATION. DON’T EVER GO THERE!!
Don't like this place. Food is not authentic, don't taste good either. Waitress is not responsive. Won't go there again.
Honestly never had a bad experience in this restaurant until now. There is this older women that greets you in the front. She ended up being our waitress and she was so rude. I can not stress this enough. When she asked us what we wanted to eat we order the same things as last time. They have this deal where you can choose 3 items for $39.99. I've came here many times and have chosen the same foods which are chow main, fried rice and salt pepper ribs. Which shows on the menu. Mind you I had just came here about two weeks ago and asked for the same thing. She stated if I didn't read the menu that those where not available so I asked her if they had updated the menu and she kept saying " Did you not read the menu" "Read the menu". All she had to say was sorry that doesn't include in that deal. instead she was rude and kept asking if I read the menu. That no one can change the menu for me. Even tho that's not what I asked. This was genuinely one of my favorite spots until not. If you don't want to be treated rudely I don't recommend coming here.
Food was great! Service was terrible. My colleagues and I had lunch here dining in, and after paying for our food we were walking through the parking lot and a server chased us in to the parking lot to beg for a tip and began stating that they will write in a tip. I let the server know that I do not authorize that and please do not do that. My colleague ended up tipping the server whatever cash she had on hand and the server began saying that it was not enough and that she needed more. We all explained to her that that is all the cash that we have. Tips are not mandatory and we did not feel that service we received today was good as the server was not friendly and began taking food from our table that we were not done with. This behavior and mannerism is very unprofessional and lacks customer service skills. We often order take out from this establishment in large quantities for staff parties. Though the food was great we will Not be returning.
