I ate a combination of sashimi bento box and 3 other rolls. The rolls were awesome but I can't tell the same thing for the bento box
Great spot for lunch. At under $18 the Deluxe Bento was an unbelievable deal! All the best stuff I typically want for a great value. The fish was high quality, tasted fresh, and was served at perfect temperature. The nigiri was 2:1 fish to rice (as it should be IMO -- but usually it's 1:1), and the avocado salad was delicious! The tempura batter was pretty basic, maybe a little bland, but I was happy they didn't include onion or bell pepper (which I usually request be omitted, but in this case, forgot) The wasabi was a little underwhelming, but they were happy to give me extra, so not an issue. The service was adequate. One waitress, was pretty unwelcoming, even sullen, but the other, very sweet and friendly. The itamae was quite friendly, but only when engaged. He was clearly not Japanese, but more than capable of executing the fare on their menu. Overall, this is a strip-mall sushi joint with an excellent lunch menu. I wouldn't take a romantic date here, and based on the other reviews, I think take-out may not be reliable, but for a value priced drop-in Japanese lunch? It's perfect *****
"atmosphere" is relative, culturally. The food is excellent, the service extra attentive. Ordered the spicy chirashi. We recommend this highly. Wow. Perfect fish, extra abundant serving.
Not all sushi is the same, not all Bento is the same. My saba shioyaki was exquisite, large portions of all parts of the box were perfect. It was lovely to sit down and relax. There really is a difference Maneki was actually LESS expensive. Deluxe Bento really is DELUXE!! Quality fish, light tempura, 👌
I always stop here when I'm in the area and generally order togo versus sitting in because of work. This sushi restaurant is small but but has a staff with big hearts. I often order a type of Chirashi Don, but I have had a variety of maki, uramaki, temaki, and onigiri over my visits. The rolls are expertly crafted, nice and tight, they don't fall apart even after biting a piece in half. They keep their form. You get excellent value on onigiri and sashimi cuts. Larger than most sushi joints is the bay area. Plus the fish is generally same/next day fresh. Maneki hits all marks, freshness, taste, value, customer care, and visual art appeal. Full 5 star rating: my top 10 in the greater San Francisco Bay area.
The sushi rolls are awesome...BUT I come here for their Chicken Teriyaki! The first time they brought the plate to me...my eyes went O.O (this emoticon or whatever cannot even express how large my eyes were when they brought the plate!!) I literally had leftovers for a couple of meals :D AWESOME!!!!
Always excellent sushi. All the rolls are really good. I've tried 10 different ones and they were all as described and delicious! Reasonable prices too and miso soup comes with the rolls.
I am always satisfied with their food! They can use a smile or two and an extra hand to help serve customers but it is the food that draws us back time and time again. Plus it's close to my house!
Small restaurant with excellent quality fish, beautifully prepared sushi and friendly, competent wait staff. A little expensive, but c'mon - it's sushi! You don't go to a sushi restaurant if you're on a budget....at least, not a *good* one! Maneki delivers. They're one of the best sushi restaurants in the bay area and definitely the best sushi restaurant in the tri-cities area (Newark, Union City, Fremont). Try the Red Rock Canyon roll, Italian (How can sushi taste like pizza? Find out!) or the BMW! Tell them Namu sent you!
Great place to get a bento box with all the sides! I got the chicken teriyaki, gyoza, cali rolls, plus rice and a salad. Everything tasted great and to standard. Very excited to come back and explore other items on their menu.
Rolls are tasty! Recommended
Excellent food. It’s really that simple. Unfortunately, I tried it for the first time during a pandemic. So my friend and I got our order to go and ate at the park. This meant my food had cooled off by the time we got to it. But even cold, the tempura was still the best tempura I’ve ever had. Perfectly fried, not greasy and still crunchy! Cold! My salmon was great and they make great rolls. I have 3 sushi restaurants in walking distance and probably half a dozen all closer to me. I’d still prefer to drive out of my way to come here. I’ll definitely be back.
Lil sushi spot in Union City. They have a decent selections and good prices. I was there in the late afternoon but it gets busy at peak times. The food is consistently delicious and quick.
Maneki has more to offer then just sushi their extensive menu has Korean Ramen, Udon and Sukiyaki their Sushi menu has over 40 different types of rolls.

Huge rolls, fresh fish assortment, and most importantly the perfect sushi rice (stickiness & moisture) consistently
Great food. Minimum ambience but good doordash option.
My wife and I have been coming here for years, excellent selection on menu great service. We always order hot tea with caterpillar or green dragon the sushi is delicious here. I always reccomend maneki sushi to family and friends
We come here about once a month. We enjoy mostly the combination dinners with entree (we get Salmon Teriyaki or mackerel), mixed tempura, California rolls, salad, and miso soup. I tried the deluxe combo with entree, sashimi, mixed tempura, and nigiri sushi selection. Everything was very good. Quite a lot of food as a good value for Japanese food.
I always walk in and get take out when I get the urge for sushi. It's right around the corner from my work and they open just when I get off so there's no crowd. They're fairly quick, and friendly, and I love the food. The menu is extensive so I don't feel it necessary to go anywhere else for awhile either.
Been coming here for years. Really nice waitress who’s helped us for years. Food is good quality for the price. Not too much at atmosphere It’s a small sushi place but definitely a good one.
Sushi was fresh and so delicious. Loved the various rolls that were unique to this restaurant. Great service

I been here countless and countless times. Never been disappointed ever. That's a lot to say about their service and quality. The place is small but clean and comfortable. The waitresses/waiter is always smiling and helpful. The seafood is always clean and fresh. Rolls I would recommend are BMW and the Lion King. They are great and honestly you cannot go wrong with any rolls they offer as they are all made with high quality ingredients. Before I continue let's take a step back to the appetizers. The melting sea chicken is tuna with jalapenos on top. So juicy and just literally blends the two flavors flawlessly. Last couple of times i ordered the chicken katsu and chicken donburi. The chicken katsu is the right amount of crispy and comes with that irresistible katsu sauce. They give a rather large serving so expect to take home some chicken. That gold flaky crust makes the rice that much tastier while eating. The chicken donburi which is a bowl of chicken with some sauce on top of rice. Add some of that chili powder they hve and this is the tastiest bowl they have. The chicken is tender and soft and that broth they use is just drool worthy! And don't your forget to order that green tea ice cream because how can you leave without tasting that desert?! You step outside and feel like you were transported from Japan because it satisfies that craving that cannot be quenched by any other.
Nice place. Friensly staff. I called in my order to go, but decided tp eat there once I arrived. She brought out a plate, and the complimentary Miso soup, which is reserved for dine in customers. She even brought water and made sure it was full, without me ever asking for water even once... Remember when all restraunts did that?
Walked in on a Tuesday evening. I was acknowledged quickly and sat down quickly. The server was very polite and exceeded my customer service expectations. Ordered a teriyaki rice plate with a brew. Hit the spot! Walked in on a Thursday evening and it was packed. Didn't get acknowledged for 5 minutes. Didn't get a server to come over for another ten minutes. Didn't get menus for another ten minutes after that. Teriyaki rice plate was still awesome though.
It is my first time at this restaurant, and ordered - 4 sushi rolls - ramen - nigiris All the sushi rolls are delicious, and I will come again for them. The waitress is very friendly, and the vibe is nice. Nigiris are below average, the meat tastes a little fishy. Ramen is also so so, and the flavor hardly beats a good instant ramen bowl.
I got take out here. They have a very large section of rolls and sushi here. I got the Flying Ninja and the Dragon rolls. Both said they were spicy but I didn’t taste much spice even after I dipped it in my soy sauce and wasabi mix. Overall both rolls were good with tempura shrimp inside. Like I’ve said there is so many options I’d like onto and try different ones.
Service was great. There was one lady working there unfortunately but she was very nice and quick considering she was alone. Food was good, I didn't get sushi but i got the Bulgogi it was a little sweeter than I'm use to but overall good experience would be going back
Whenever I have a sushi craving I'd come here during my lunch hours. Food is delish and the portions are pretty good too. They do get packed occasionally so do come off hours or early prior to lunch rush.
2nd time coming here. Pros: Open even from 3pm to 6pm, so it's nice to be able to get Japanese sushi anytime. Restaurant is clean. We went around 4pm and there were a few other tables of customers. Food came quickly. Server was friendly and tentative. Food was very good. Cons: Very hard to find a parking space. Some of the dishes were over filled with onions, and the tempura was a bit oily. Atmosphere was a bit dark. Overall, very good place to get sushi 3rd time here, end of summer 2018, and I would say their score dropped a bit to 3.5 stars. Hopefully, they can change things around. This time we went, it was for dinner. There were about 5 tables as it was still early. My boys love tonkatsu and teriyaki, while my daughter loves sushi. The tonkatsu was a little oily. It should have drained about 30 seconds more. The teriyaki was really sweet, but my son said the beef was tender and tasty. My daughter usually gets the Cherry Blossom. Taste was still good and the tuna smelled and tasted fresh, but you can tell the sushi chef was a novice. Pieces were not cut evenly; roll was not wrapped tight (fell apart when using chopsticks); outer layer of tuna was not consistent - thick at some parts and thin at others; and the inner ingredients seem haphazardly cut - no uniformity. Sushi is an art form.

7/7/2024 Still good. Same quality sushi as always. Not high end but good. I always order to go here and have never had a meal in house. My one complaint would be that when you order a baked roll and a cold roll, they put it in the same container so your cold roll may come a bit lukewarm. They may want to reconsider that. Otherwise, the rolls look nice, taste nice and if you are not looking for boutique sushi, this should satisfy most. We always order the same thing here so the review is based on: - Spicy Tuna Roll - Dragon Roll - Double Salmon Roll ______________________________________________________ ORIGINAL REVIEW 2022 Found a place close to home where we can get decent sushi. Amazed that the price has stayed reasonable after watching most other places charge insane food prices with the pandemic. The food is solid. Not high but solid. You won't be disappointed and this place makes it easy to get a sushi fix in house or to go.

Got two rolls, double hamachi and double salmon. Fish portions were generous but no flavor. Paid $28. Lots of parking in the lot but also pretty crowded shopping area. Would not come back.
Customer service is not very pleasant for the first visit. I ordered to go. I came back to pick up the food and I thought I would be quickly serve/pay Cau I had already phoned in thirty mins in advanced. However I had to spend extra ten mins to pick up my order and pay due to ignorant server/cashier. The cashier picked to serve two other ladies who also had to go orders but arrived later than me. I am not sure what is the difference between the other ladies and I, but for the to-go orders wouldn’t be whoever come to pick up first to be served. The food is ok. First bite on “bay bridge” roll isn’t any impressed.
Just mediocre sushi rolls - they skimp on the fish and fat on the rice and full of sauce. Only come here cause it's close and I'm lazy to drive to much better places.
It’s not great sushi, but it’s not bad either. For the cost and variety it’s worth a trip when you have a craving. But if you order to go, definitely CHECK YOUR ORDER. I have been shorted items more than once. I don’t think it’s intentional just lack of mindfulness.

First time to come here. Ordered ramen that tasted like instant cup noodles. I’m pretty s ure noodles aren’t fresh coz it looked like the ones out of a cup o noodles. Nice clean place, attentive server. I will try their other foods next time but I will stay away from the Ramen. I asked the server and she said noodles is dry but imported from Japan 🤦🏽.
I've been going in and out of this place for a while and it took one staff member to make me swear never to come again. I ordered lunch here. Firstly, my miso soup was a smaller portion than what I've been served before and spilled on the side of the bowl. Its just complimentary soup so it's whatever. But not even a few minutes after I had received my bento, the server told me to pay now. I asked why and she said it was to count cash. I was paying by card. She didn't do this to the other patrons. So I gave her my card, finished quickly, and left. I questioned if i looked offensive? I didnt. I was freshly showered with my work clothes still on. It was the same server that mistakenly gave me an expensive sushi Don instead of a salmon teriyaki don the previous time I'd come. It's a shame. I've been coming here for years.
Try to play safe for my very visit here. No sushi, just simple Katsu don. Still okay with pork but egg was over cooked. Lunch bento beef teriyaki ( for own choice to top up as you add on and charge $) beef was thin slide and over cooked no fat and chewy. A normal local Japanese restaurant with reasonable price.
Grilled tuna was overcooked and rubbery. Disappointing considering the cost.

If I could give it a negative star, I would! One of the worst places I've ever been to. The service was AWFUL - she screwed up our meals 3 times with the wrong orders and totally ruined our dinner. Didn't even comp us for anything. If it wouldn't have been my sons birthday, I would have walked out. The food is also not good quality in comparison to Japanese places I've been to. Hardly ate any of it. Updating this as I got a terrible stomach ache from the food later and had not eaten anything else. Absolutely terrible.
Tasted like sushi from Walmart mixed with Frosted Flakes cereal. Terrible! How do people eat this? Tasted artificial. Everything tasted abnormal, like something was missing. The tempura tasted like stuffing from thanksgiving dinner Turkey. I don’t know where I’m at. I’m so lost right now because I don’t know what I ate. HELP!
Worst experience ever... I had dined here before and received bad service and never reviewed the place, and since I'm a person who believes in giving second chances I decided to bring my family here again a year later thinking that their service and food may have gotten better. BOY WAS I WRONG... We came in here on March 10, 2017 at opening time 11:30am to have some lunch for my aunts birthday. First sign of trouble is when we received our food before the waitress even asked if we'd like to order drinks. Now I didn't think much of it, and we didn't mind it since my family and I were there having a light-hearted conversation. We received our food and finally some water and tea when WE ASKED for some. The food was ok, it wasn't the best sushi and sashimi but we were hungry, the fish wasn't fully thawed and the crab in the california rolls are made with imitation crab meat and overripe avocados. We were the first group (and a small group of 3 at that) there so there shouldn't have been any excuse for the waitress to not be able to serve us well, what really did it was when I had ordered a togo order specifically with NO RICE and DOUBLE SALAD. The waitress went back and added it onto the tab, when the check came back to me for me pay and sign, I noticed that the itemized receipt said NO SALAD DOUBLE RICE, so I politely asked another waitress to check with the kitchen and make sure that they put double salad instead of double rice because I knew that the ticket sent to the kitchen would confuse the cooks and make them put rice. What pissed me off even more was when the waitress dismissed it and said that they will put double salad instead of rice and that the kitchen knows. SHE DIDN'T go to the back to tell them and make sure, she instead proceeded to take orders from the other tables and the phone... I receive my order and lo and behold, it was double rice and no salad at all... So I took the food back to the waitress, told them that they didn't listen to me and made up every excuse they can give me for their incompetence and lack of quality service. They did nothing to make up for the bad service and continued to give me the same lame excuses. This is the worst place to eat, don't go here! They need new management and I hope they go out of business and is replaced with a better restaurant whether it is sushi or not.
me and and my daughters for dinner at 6:30pm the waitress was extremely busy as we were patient with her getting our order but when she was taking our order she was not patient with us while taking our order my daughter wanted the tempura roll as she but her off beofore saying roll she asked half or full my 16 year told was confused and asked what do your mean she was so rude and irritated my daughter did not know what she was speaking off so in the middle of taking our order she said ill be right back went to serve another table drinks then took a walk in thier order then looked at us asked if we where ready i responded with "we have been ready" she got upset and stated "i am very busy" i responded with i understand but you leaving in the middle of taking our order is rude. she got upset and threw up her arms with oh no i am not doind this mind you i did not raise my voice or was being rude but after she acted like and started a scene i got up set and went off on her if you cant handle that job dont do it if costumers are being patient with you then be patient with your customers you keep cutting them off while ordering to rush them and not letting them order correctly is not patience
Mediocre sushi combined with bad service? Awesome! After food came in no particular order (looking at my two dishes infront of me while my guest had nothing) I pointed out that they screwed up my order and didn't give me what I asked for. No problem though, after pointing it out they not only didn't apologize, they still charged me for the food I never got.
The food and service were mediocre but the main issue is that they added additional tip to the order. The receipt was very clearly written but then the waitress added an extra $3.30 to the final charge. I wonder how many other people this happened to but since the amount is small, they never report it.
The ramen noodle is not authentic ramen. Its texture is like instant noodle. Overall taste is worst than packaged ramen. The salad that came with the ramen and udon are not fresh. The lettuces already turned brownish color. The fish cake in the udon is not soft as usual. It is hard and chewy. Don't know how long this fish cake has been around.
The agedashi tofu is the worst kind I’ve ever had. Ihe tofu was fried with a very hard crust . The Unami sauce is starchy- there are no Bonito flakes or nori strips or not even any garnishing .I am better off making my own.

My daughter loves california roll and ramen, i like this place price is reasonable food is OK but the service sucks the lady that works here does not even smile and when she approach us, she ask us to sit in a table that my daughter does not like and when my daughter sat on another table she sighed and you would really see that in her face, and then i ask her can we sit in here she said its fine , it reallly felt that we are not welcome in this place
I hate to give a bad rating. I ordered salmon teriyaki donburi and beef teriyaki donburi separately. the bowl was just full of rice, and just a small slice of salmon, also a few beef slices for teriyaki. I hate the fishy smell of my food that's why I ordered the salmon separately but it turned out the beef and the sauce had a strong fishy smell. I guess they grilled both of the fish and beef together. no separation in preparation of the food whatsoever. The beef itself is not tender and sooo chewy. It's also so overpriced and I was not satisfied to eat my food!
