Was Kunden über Restaurant sagen
González y González is a lively spot known for its fun atmosphere, live music, and dancing, especially salsa nights. Customers rave about the fresh, tableside guacamole and happy hour drinks. Some find the mandatory coat check and cover charge off-putting, and note potential issues with billing.

I really love this place , it worth the cost of cover bc the band is amazing!! You really going to enjoy drinks and dance a lot ! Of course have so much fun !!
The atmosphere was nice and the steak fajita was so amazing. It was one of the best fajita steaks I ever had. I would definitely come back here. The Side salad was also satisfying.
Our time at this restaurant/ club was the highlight of our visit to NYC. We felt very welcomed by both staff members as well as other guests, mostly locals. The food was excellent. We had the giant shrimp platter and plantain. The salsa class was fun and the music was fantastic, especially the live band. We hadn't danced like we did in ages! This place will definitely remain on our itinerary whenever we are in NYC.
I went here for a friends 21st-they let us decorate. Carlos was the best waiter, so kind and attentive and patient with us! Immediately went to talk to me and the other woman leading the surprise party. Will most definitely book again! Carlos is amazing: so fun! Amazing value for the price fix, I cannot be happier with this experience!
Excellent atmosphere. The food, the drinks and the live music were all on point. I took my friend for a late birthday dinner. She enjoyed herself immensely. I had the full house salad with steak and passion fruit frozen margarita and she had the steak fajitas with a strawberry mojito. To top it off we ate delicious churros as her birthday treat. All delicious!
The amount of times my friends and I have been here is ridiculous. We love it and consistently return whenever we want great drinks and food. 🍹 Those happy hour drinks are bomb! They’re the main reason we keep returning. Food’s good too but the drinks are the main attraction for us. 🪇 The vibe is always great with the music, especially on a Friday. 🛎️ Servers are always great! They know us by face at this point. We enjoy getting the sombrero whenever we celebrate a birthday there. The bathroom’s all the way downstairs but it’s clean, and there are little trinkets being sold outside - gum, mints, lotion, etc. 📸 There’s a new service - photographers taking photos of your group. Photos are framed and cost $20/each. It gets packed, so either get there early or make a reservation. I think you’re allowed 90-120 mins at your table. Highly recommend!
After calling to inquire about their Groupon, I spoke with Stephanie, who was truly a delight! Her energy was EVERYTHING—warm, welcoming, and instantly got us excited for our visit. As a lifelong New Yorker, of course I knew of Gonzalez y Gonzalez, but it had been at least a decade since my last visit. Safe to say, this experience was a great reintroduction. The Groupon was a fantastic deal, including a shared appetizer, two entrées each, one dessert, and four drinks—definitely bang for our buck! We started with the Mezcal Mussels, which came in a flavorful sauce with toasted bread (we immediately wanted more!). For entrées, we had the Chicken Chimichanga and Chuletas Al Pastor, both solid choices. And the churros? Unexpectedly AMAZING! Crispy, warm, and perfectly dusted with cinnamon sugar. For drinks, I had the Spicy Jalapeño Margarita, while my partner went for the Mango Margarita—both hit the spot. As self-proclaimed foodies, while this wasn’t the best Mexican food we’ve ever had, it was undeniably a solid choice for good eats, great value, and an even better vibe. The service was top-notch, with multiple staff members checking in on us from the moment we walked in. Our server, Carlos, was friendly, attentive, and had great recommendations, which really set the tone for a wonderful night. We left just before the salsa dancing started, but it’s clearly a longstanding tradition and looks like a fun time—whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just there to enjoy the energy. Overall, Gonzalez y Gonzalez delivers neighborhood vibes, solid food, and a memorable night out. We’d absolutely return (maybe for brunch next?!)—and you should too!
Came for dinner after watching NYU game and plus wifey loves Mexican food. Ordered a variety of things - MIL got steak tacos, wifey got a steak burrito, lil man got shrimp empanadas, and I got fried shrimp and calamari. We also got chips and guacamole for the table. Overall food was pretty good. Lil man didn’t like his shrimp empanadas though - he said too much vegetables and not enough shrimp. The burrito tasted fine. MIL liked her tacos. And the fried shrimp and calamari was lightly fried and tasted fine. We were seated right away. Had to show ID at the front, which I have never done before anywhere else but was not bothered by it. Inside was dark. Hard to see the plates. Service was good. The waiter made our guacamole table side and it tasted great. The only thing was we had to wait a bit for the waiter to come around to ask for the check. But then again there was maybe two servers working. Overall a pleasant experience. We have not been here in years. And I’m glad that the place is still open.
Having lived near a sizable Mexican community in Homestead, Florida, I can say that we are accustomed to authentic cuisine. The restaurant's ambiance is quite pleasant, and I really appreciate the location. It is relatively small and compact, which can give the impression of being more crowded than it actually is. We opted for some traditional Mexican dishes based on the patrons present, and while the flavors were quite good, they didn't fully match what we're used to. Nevertheless, we would recommend this place, so be sure to come by for an enjoyable atmosphere.
Food was great! I had calamari and shrimp and potatoes. My friends had the enchiladas and burrito. Also the sangria was great. But we made a reservation via google and when we got there we were told they don’t take reservations via google so we were super confused and the guy at the host spot was a little rude about it
The service was terrible. We were a table of 14, all of us ordering food. It was a birthday celebration and I brought the cake. We asked if they could cut the cake for us and lend us some plates, and they told us it would cost $3 per slice and $2 per plate--$5 per portion in total! This is insane. Later, when the party started, they told us that if we wanted to keep the table, we had to buy a bottle. We provided water and were told we could enjoy the rest of the night at that table. We agreed. Forty minutes later, without asking anything, they just took the bottle and glasses, put them at the bar, and said: 'Your time is over, please leave.
This place is all about the music and the people. The food is good the chef does a great job. The service not that great but it might have to do with some of the patrons they have to deal with. The Atmosphere amazing. I don't love this new location, ive been going to this place for 10 plus years (yes i am older) but i still love the atmosphere and the music here..
I went to González y González and I really liked it! I give the vibes a 10 out of 10! The DJ was great, there were a lot of people, and you can dance all night! 🎶💃 The cover is $20 and you need to bring cash. I really loved the guacamole! 🥑 It was super fresh and they make it right at your table. That was so cool and different! I also tried a beer (I forgot the name 😅), but it was really good. They have nice beers there! The only things I didn’t like much were the drinks. My margarita tasted too artificial. I expected more. And the churros, I give them like a 3 out of 10. Not the best. The prices were not cheap, not expensive — just normal. But the atmosphere was amazing. I had so much fun! I want to go again! 💖
Stopped by here for a quick bite to eat late at night Pleasantly surprised by the fresh guacamole made tableside in front of you-tasted really good - this was the highlight Disappointed with the chicken quesadilla- I make better at home Also the service was slow and the sangria was not great Margaritas looked good - but didn't try
The place is lively and fun but becareful paying by card. They changed the amount of my payment and charged my bank account more than I approves to be paid. They said their system automatically added gratuity after I signed and closed the tab. I even paid 25% tip in cash. They turned my zero into an eight! Im so mad! This experience messed up what was a fun night for me.
It is always a 20$ cover for each person including women, and it is a MANDATORY $3 coat check l. It is clearly a place for money. Good live band but it was way too crowded to dance. It is a small place and doesn’t have room for the amount of people that want to go in. Also if you stand on the benches they will kick you out so just be aware of that.
BEWARE OF MANDATORY COAT AND BAG CHECK FOR DANCE FLOOR- I went last night for salsa and was forced to check my leather jacket. I was so cold, my jacket completed the outfit, had pockets, and I felt insecure with out it. Obviously I did not want to fight with the workers and just trying to enjoy the night. But, I would have enjoyed this place much more if I wasn’t forced to take my jacket off.
Was excited to visit this place but it’s trash. Paid a cash cover only to be shaken down for a mandatory $5 cash coat check. We ran out of cash and didn't have physical atm cards with us, but they refused any other payment and were incredibly mean about it. Everyone here we interacted with was rude. Don't waste your time or money on this place. NYC has way better options that aren't stuck in the stone age.
I came for salsa lessons and I was really excited because it's nearby and I had finally gotten a group of friends together. Unfortunately we weren't there long because security was so rude and unwelcoming. They essentially made us pay for each item of clothing for coat check even though we had a backpack to put in a light jacket. I felt completely disrespected by the security and it ruined the experience for me and my friends.
0/10 nothing was good about this place service was horrible, everyone is super rude, from the ugly host to the security guards. the food was nasty, not authentic or even flavorful Mexican food. The drinks are not good at all either. Let’s not forget there rules of mandatory coat and bag check for 3 dollars when the AC is blasting in the middle of winter, it’s insane that they even make u check in a sweater. As soon as they said my bad has go too I left. It’s honestly the worst place to go shoutout to the new owner and management you guys ruined a great place
I visited this restaurant yesterday with a group of friends, and although the food and service were good, the overall experience left a very bad impression because of an unreasonable and aggressively enforced coat-check policy. The evening started well — our server was attentive, and the food, while nicely prepared, came in rather small portions for the very high prices charged. Still, we were enjoying ourselves until we encountered a completely unnecessary and unpleasant situation with the staff regarding our jackets. The restaurant enforces a mandatory $3 coat check per person, which might not seem like much, but the way it was imposed was shocking and unacceptable. I was cold inside the restaurant and decided to keep my jacket on, but when I tried to return to my table after stepping out for a moment, the security guard physically blocked me from going back inside. He told me that I was not allowed to enter unless I handed over my coat and paid the fee. I explained that I was cold and wanted to keep it, but he insisted, standing in front of me and preventing me from rejoining my friends. At that point, I felt uncomfortable, intimidated, and frankly detained. No customer should ever be forced to surrender personal belongings against their will just to continue their meal. This policy felt coercive and disrespectful. It completely ruined what should have been a nice evening out. Even though I wanted to leave immediately, I couldn’t because my friends were still at the table. It’s disappointing that a restaurant charging premium prices would treat paying guests this way. The management should seriously reconsider this policy and train their staff to prioritize customer comfort and safety over unnecessary rules. Until that happens, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
The food was nice, the guacamole is freshly made and reasonably priced. The other food, like the chorizo tacos and churros, were ok. I didn’t try any fancy drinks, so I can’t comment there. A few drinks, an entree and a dessert would run you about 150 — this place is not cheap. Also, for your bday, the dessert is not free. My low review is due mostly to the atmosphere. I would say that if you’re a man, it is a very aggressive space for you. Bouncers/security will be aggressive by default — for example, my partner did not know (because he wasn’t told by the bouncer, bartender, or any staff) that he had to check his coat. A security guard said, after we had been seated on our table for an hour, that if he doesn’t check in his coat he will be kicked out. That was his first interaction with my partner — no “hey we have a policy” or anything of the sort. I thought this was incredibly rude and would have left if it wasn’t for a birthday I was attending. A similar interaction happened to another person in our party who had a bag with them. I didn’t have any sort of conflict, but I did have a bag. Also, I love a dress code, but you can be kind about it. The dance floor was also incredibly crowded — too crowded if you wanted to dance salsa or bachata. It was almost like an EDM/rave with how crowded and sweaty everyone was. This is also nitpicky, but the he DJ on 8/26 was mixing strangely, like they threw in a random Kendrick track? Between random Caribbean tracks and Romeo Santos? Like I guess… Lastly, and most importantly imo, the water is not free. It’s 3 dollars for a bottle and when you ask for tap, they say they don’t do that. With a 20$ cover charge, that is bonkers. I wouldn’t come here again — I’ll stay in the BX.
