Poor college kid here, was able to eat in the Tavern and it was awesome! Lots of beer to choose from and an awesome aesthetic, still a little pricey but the bathrooms look better than any room in my house

We visited the Big Tree Inn on a Saturday evening. While the menu selection may not be the biggest everything we had was delicious! Our Filets were a tad over the temperatures we requested, but nothing worth bringing up. We are already planning a return visit.

Food was great. Server/bartender was great. Highly recommend chicken pot pie yum. Bob had a bacon burger, also great. We'll be back.🤗

I attended a welcome event for the college in the event room. The space was nice and there were several food and beverage choices. The staff was very attentive and made sure everything was taken care of.

This has become our annual holiday lunch spot. We love the food (so far everything has been great), the decorations and the fireplaces. Perfect for a winter day.

I love this place. The onion soup is fabulous and we have liked everything we have eaten here. If you go be sure to have some bread with their shopping oil. Love it!

The accommodations were lovely and very clean. The staff, particularly the kitchen staff who generously reheated some leftovers I had brought with me, were exceptionally friendly.

Very nice and professional staff. One of the staff helped taxi us around at midnight on a Saturday when we realized Uber didn't have much of a presence in the area.

Great place, service was great and food in the bar was very nice too. Room was small, but hey it's an old place and it's only a room. Bathroom was very clean.

Lunch there today was superb! The duck poutine was a wonderful dish, and they were by no means skimpy on the portion size. Can't wait to go back!

My husband and I are completely satisfied with our wedding reception at The Big Tree Inn. The general manager, Daniel Mullin, was extremely helpful and accommodating throughout the planning process. The staff were friendly, polite and very hardworking for both the day of the reception and breakfast the following morning. We had many guests rave about the food, especially the filet mignon (I also thought it was delicious!) In our eyes, the evening was flawless and we very happily recommend The Big Tree to others looking for an event venue. That being said, a couple of my guest did have some confusion with reservations/billing with the inn but this was quickly resolved after being addressed.

Great service and delicious food in the historical inn atmosphere. We stopped for an early dinner on our way back to Rochester after spending the day in Letchworth. Will definitely stop here again when in Geneseo.

Went to Big Tree Inn for my 22nd birthday yesterday. Had a great experience. I've gone to Big Tree Inn over 10 times the past few years. I ordered a filet mignon last night and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. Definitely the best restaurant on Main Street for higher quality food.

Their Easter brunch was very good, with a lot of main entree selections. The salads and desserts were self serve so you could try a lot of different things. Our waitress was terrific, especially when the Sprite was broken, she worked hard to make sure I had a beverage I would enjoy.

This was my first visit to the Big Tree Inn. The decor and atmosphere were wonderful and full of charm. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Ours meals were delicious and the generous portions abled us to take the remainder home to enjoy later. The prices were reasonable. I look forward to visiting again the next time I'm in the area.

The food here is outstanding. We came for our anniversary and had everything from appetizers to dessert. The soup was a creamy tomato basil with parmesan, which tasted amazing even on a hot day. We also ordered the Black Pearl Wings. They had a bit of heat but incredible flavor too. I had the chicken pot pie. It was served steaming hot with a thin but crispy, flaky crust. And I finished my meal with the s'mores brownie, which felt like summer all the way through. There is indoor, outdoor, and tavern seating available. This is an historic gem in Geneseo.

This is a really nice place to come and stay. It's much better than going to a local hotel. The rooms are clean and cozy. The staff is kind and friendly. The restaurant serves good food and it's reasonably priced. It's kind of a cross between a bed and breakfast and a hotel. It's located right on Main Street.

We were here for a lunch buffet after a wake. The staff was very friendly and took care of us well. We had roasted potatoes, chicken French, veggies and a saucy creamy noodle dish. Everything was tasty.

I only stayed here one night, but I loved it there! The staff is so friendly, welcoming, and helpful/attentive. This bed and breakfast was the home of the first banker in Geneseo, NY, I think, so it's one giant pretty house with antique decor and lighting. It's so romantic. Our room was big; the bathroom was clean with the reliability of modern facility design while still sporting that romantic, antique look, if you're into that; and our bed was huge and comfortable. The simple, self-serve breakfast of bagels (cream cheese, butter, and jam packets available), fresh fruit, oatmeal, and muffins with beverage choices of orange juice, milk, hot water, and coffee was satisfying, especially in the adorable dining area. I love small-scale hotels. It felt more intimate and personal, like my husband and I were VIPs. As a sidenote, I accidentally burnt my thumb a tiny bit when toasting my bagel because I was careless. I asked the front desk staff (I'm sorry that I don't know your name) for ice, and she grabbed a bandaid, ice, and burn pain relief spray from the kitchen. Thank you, miss and Big Tree Inn! I recommend this place to all.

We decided to take the advice of AAA and headed to The Big Tree Inn Tavern in Geneseo. It was the perfect cap to our wonderful day of exploring. We started with a local IPA beer and a yummy Irish coffee. We then shared the veal, pork and lamb meatloaf as well as the house burger, both were excellent!!

My boyfriend and I dine at Big Tree Inn every year. The wings and bourbon beef tips were always our favorite. This year those two dishes were taken off the menu, and we were told they hired a new chef. We were terribly disappointed until we got our "new" favorite dish there ... Chicken and waffles. It was beautifully plated with a caramelized sauce coating the waffle and Cole slaw under the chicken. We tried all three deserts. The bread pudding was amazing. Great hire. The service was friendly but not exceptional. They usually hire students who are a bit unorganized and slow, but not terrible. We will be dining there again soon.

My husband and I just got married this past weekend at Big Tree Inn and it was perfect! Erin, the Catering Manager, was so helpful! The staff was incredible, the food was amazing, the building was GORGEOUS and clean, and during covid they kept everything socially distant and safe! We really couldn't have asked for a better wedding and can't wait to enjoy our anniversary there again! Thank you Big Tree Inn!

Historic building in a great area. Food was really good. The table bread and herb oil was face melting. I has salmon with beet risotto. I don't like beets, so it was a risk, but I've never been so surprised by a food. It was one of the best risotto I've ever had. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to check this place out.

What a lovely inn! The room was beautiful, clean, and had such a cozy feel. Dinner was phenomenal, enjoying it in their outside dining area was the icing on the cake. The staff was friendly and helpful, providing a map to Letchworth State Park, and offering ice for my water bottle before I headed out. I will definitely be going back and would highly recommend the Big Tree Inn for dining and overnight getaways!

Great place for lunch or dinner. We always sit at the bar, but they have seating in the bar as well as more formal dining rooms. The food is always good and plentiful. The staff is great, and the place is very well kept. It's a very comfortable place to enjoy a leasurey meal.

Decorated for Christmas. Clean and homey. Staff attentive and friendly. Food at restaurant above average with good service. Keurig in the morning appreciated. Close to everything, but the winter ice storm made getting around difficult. Staff at the inn kept areas salted and safe.

We made reservations for an early dinner at the Big Tree Inn on Saturday before we went to a show at the Riviera. It was our first visit to both. We did not stay in the rooms. The Inn is a quaint look back at the past. You could almost hear the horse and buggy pull up. It has been modernized just enough for our 21st century sensibilities to be comfortable. Since we were early we had the dining room to ourselves and it felt very colonial. The staff were fantastic. The food was great too. The chef obviously has a strong New Orleans influence. My jambalaya balls and shrimp etouffe were very authentic. Well worth the drive from Rochester. We shall return.

This is just a review of the restaurant. We had supper in the Tavern. The red pepper soup was creamy & delicious. Entree was a lobster roll with REAL lobster claws & chunks of meaty lobster. The atmosphere was great and waitstaff worked as a team.

I recently worked with April at the Big Tree Inn in Geneseo, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The venue is full of historic charm and has so much character—perfect for capturing elegant, timeless photos. April was fantastic to work with! I’ve known her since she managed another local wedding venue, and her professionalism and warm personality continue to shine. Her communication throughout the planning process was seamless, and she went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. I’d absolutely recommend the Big Tree Inn to couples looking for a beautiful and supportive space to bring their vision to life.

Today, after arriving in Geneseo, we stopped at the Big Tree Inn for lunch. It has reopened under new ownership and we’re so excited to see this come back to the village. The Big Tree used to be one of best places celebrate , time with friends, a special event or a great meal. Trust me , these new owners are saving an icon ! The Soup Trio and The winter salad with Salmon were absolutely delicious! I recently hosted a bridal shower at The Big Tree Inn and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From start to finish, everything was absolutely perfect. The venue itself is stunning, with a beautifully decorated space that set the perfect ambiance for our celebration. The layout was spacious yet intimate, allowing guests to mingle comfortably while enjoying the event. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. They were incredibly attentive, accommodating, and professional, ensuring that every detail was taken care of. The food and drinks were exceptional—beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about them! One of the standout features was the seamless coordination. From planning to execution, April made the process stress-free and enjoyable. They worked closely with us to customize the event to our vision, and it truly exceeded our expectations. If you’re looking for the perfect place to host a bridal shower, The Big Tree Inn is it. Congrats on the reopening of the Big Tree Inn in Geneseo, NY! Had dinner in the restaurant with excellent food choices and specials. The Seared Tuna was excellent! We were surprised to see every table full on an exceptionally cold winter night. Make sure you make a reservation on the weekends!

This is a very nice inn in a quaint little town. I was here on business - visiting places that have some pretty cool ghost stories. We stayed for lunch, not overnight, so I cannot comment on the rooms. Specialty salads that day were delicious, enjoyed them very much. I'd love to go back and experience the rooms/bath - maybe soon! Staff was very friendly, inn is extremely welcoming. If you are in the area, it is well worth a visit! Lots of history which I loved learning about.

Had lunch there yesterday with my grandson's. Art our server was great. The food was good. Stayed and had a coffee after eating. Watch out for the villages new revenue collector . Ran over on parking meter and received a $ 5 parking ticket. Hope it helps out there coffee fund. But I guess that's why I moved to Florida, NYS just doesn't get it.

I have met friends at the Big Tree Inn numerous times. The drinks are good, if not a bit pricey. My most recent visit was shortly after a change in head chef and menu, and the food took much longer than it had in the past. The food is good however, and the ambiance is typically great.

K

The event room was beautiful, if not a little hard to find (straight back, but no one was there to direct us). The food was incredible, though the desserts were a little underwhelming, but that could have just been the event we were attending. My only real complaint is the parking isn't sufficient for the amount of guests they need to accomodate.

Nice historic Inn built in the early 1800's. We were there for Sunday brunch. Although the sign listed hours, the word Sunday was not next to it. The sign does list Monday through Saturday hours. There were about 6 or 7 choices for breakfast and another 6 or 7 for lunch. I ordered 2 eggs with home fries, fruit cup, toast and choice of meat (apple wood bacon, ham, house made sausage]. I ordered the bacon. Home fries were well prepared and not salty or too greasy. Bacon was just crisp enough. My friend ordered 2 eggs with homemade roast beef & pastrami hash, fruit cup & toast. My friend found the hash to be rather salty. Breakfast choices were between $9 & 12. Lunch was similarly priced. Atmosphere is vintage with many small rooms. Each room I saw had a fireplace. It would be a nice spot on a cold winter night!

Stopped in for dinner and drinks with a few friends from The Greatest Show on Turf airshow being hosted at the Geneseo Airport. Ordered a house burger and fries. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly and the fries had the right about of crispness. The beer selection provided a good variety. Our server was very attentive and handled our relatively large party with ease. The attached Inn looks like a nice place to stay. Situated in the village of Geneseo this would be a good weekend getaway at any time of the year!

Lovely venue. It's my mom's favorite so we're threw a party there for her 80th birthday. Friendly catering staff but they took a while to get back to me initially. We made reservations for our party of 10, we were not disappointed with the establishment. The 16 ozs rib eye steaks were grilled to perfection, likewise with the salmons. My only disappointment was with the over cooked soggy vegetables, then again, never liked vegetables. Overall, food rated 4.3, service at 4.2.

Reviewing the restaurant…. Just time back for dinner since it has reopened recently. The tavern is full a great room for drinks and dinner. The rest of the restaurant still feels dated. The menu has some unique items you don’t find at many places, which is great for something different alongside several staples on the menu. The food was excellent. Fresh, well prepared, and even the prices were surprisingly good. The service was slow. The two bartenders were distracted by a not so crowded bar and a light, stay stream of drunk orders from the dining rooms. Seemed like most of the servers were still new and that contributed to the slowness. Or maybe they were short servers? But the food was excellent and the prices were good. We’ll be back, hopefully there’ll tighten up the service.

Big Tree was closed for years and we just tried it again since it reopened. It was okay. There isn't much else in the area, so it's one of the best from limited options. I'd like to see a larger cocktail menu, and the food didn't come out accurately the first time. The sides were incorrect. The wrap i ordered was primarily greens and light on the chicken salad. Update 3/7: we gave this place another try and were really happy with the cocktail selection and the appetizers we shared.

Friday night dinner was excellent. The broiled fish was perfectly done and seasoned well. I chose a salad to substitute for fries. The salad was large, thankfully made with spring greens and presented beautifully with the vegetables arranged around the outside. I appreciate this extra touch! My husband's pork chops were delicious and were accompanied by tasty broccoli. Our server was attentive. We are so happy the inn has reopened. There is no place quite like it. We'll be back.

I want to love this place but the quality of food is inconsistent. The menu features many local ingredients and the items are just different enough to get you interested. Unfortunately service is spotty and while some dishes turn out well others fall flat. Combine this with a rather stagnant menu and you'll find yourself searching for something on the menu that just isn't there.

Beautiful place to have dinner. We ate in one of the smaller rooms by a fireplace. Menu changes on a regular basis but fails to deliver. We didn't stay in a room. But the room was dark where we had dinner. Offering a sandwich for dinner on special was off to me. We ordered French onion soup it was creamy not too good. Dinner was good pot roast and shrimp entree was good. The bar drinks were ok we had to go to bar for drinks. Waitress was nIce but the girl filling water was on point she filled out water and cleared out plates and was so sweet. Bartender should of brought out drinks to our table instead of us having to go get the cocktails. The waitress was busy.

A

I don't think we had the best stay the staff at the Big Tree could have provided for us. We first stayed in the Mark Twain suite. The jacuzzi was the best part of the room and the hot water was nearly instant. The room wasn't very clean. They do not have electronic locks on any of their rooms. When we were leaving to visit Letchworth Park, the door handle to our room broke, trapping me inside our room and my husband outside of it. When a staff member was finally able to remove the door handle, we switched rooms. The bed in our second room, the Bethia suite, was creaky and I felt every time my husband moved in the slightest. Our final morning, we were woken up an hour before checkout time by housekeeping services trying to get into our room despite the do not disturb sign on our door.

D
Daniel Ledwith

Where to begin? The rooms are nice, no issue with our stay at all. The issues come from the restaurant and management. All this place needs is a little effort and someone with back bone to lead it. The food was adequate, nothing to write home about and certainly priced as if they were a real quality establishment so it's a little expensive for what you get. Found HUMAN HAIR in my creme brulee during dessert and was embarrassed for their management team as they did NOTHING to make the situation better or to make me happy that I was spending over 400 dollars with them in less than a 24 hour stay. The hair thing happens but the lack of care for the customer or urge to make us happy is poor and the owner should be ashamed of the staff they entrust to run such a nice little inn.

P
Phyllis DiSalvo

We came as a group for a Christmas party. We had a small room. It was crowded and it was also small we couldn't visit with each other because with that many people in a small room. I and a few others had the chicken pot pie . It was so bad we couldn't eat it. And got sick after. Not impressed. I must say it's pretty inside

C
Carole Gorrow

The place was beautiful. The service was very slow. The one woman made us feel like we didn't belong there or something. The chicken in my sandwich wasn't well done. Probably won't go back there.

L
Laurie Guest

The Inn is very nice and deserves a 4-5 star for comfort in the room and the food. However the reason I am giving it two stars is that I was booked on the third floor and there isn't an elevator because it is a historic home. I feel strongly that when a reservation is made this is should be an told to the customer. I have very bad feet and have to transport two heavy bags when I travel due to my profession. In addition, once you park in the appropriate lot there are several flights of steps up a hill to get to the back entrance. This physical challenge I had to accomplish in the rain no less. That of course is not their fault but if I had been warned about the need to climb stairs I would have booked elsewhere.

B
Brandon Barr

This place had nice rooms but bad everything else. My wife and I stayed 3 nights. First night was ok, room was nice but not as clean as it should have been. Second night was fine. During the third day my wife got locked inside her room. The maintenance person arrived to open the door and found it would be more complicated than just using a key. They asked me if I was "in a hurry" to get in. I explain, once again, that my wife is in the room and we were trying to leave. After about a half hour or so they were able to get in but the door is broken. They transfer us to another room and we leave for the day. We spend the last night there and then 20 minutes before we are going to wake up cleaning services attempt to enter the room while we are sleeping, despite the do not disturb sign hanging on the door. We yell to them that we are in the room and they attempt to enter two more times before I get up and open the door to tell them we are in there. Overall the rooms themselves were nice but they had a way of making you feel like you were putting them out by staying there.

Ate at the restaurant. Inexperienced wait staff need training. No familiarity with the menu. Irritating that they haven't tasted every dish or at a minimum know what they are serving. It was a busy night but for our first visit it wasn't great. 1/ French onion soup was missing the bread and blue cheese listed on the menu. Soup was tasty but an unappealing color and consistency. 2/ herb mashed potatoes were tasteless although nicely piped. The horseradish mash was 10x better. 3/ half chicken was ok but a bit under cooked 4/ burger was undercooked We'll give it one more try but the restaurant needs more careful management.

Cool old spot …I grew up coming to this place. We used to sneak upstairs while our parents were eating dinner. Just realized it opened back up again and stopped in to defrost and grab a bite. Sat at the bar. Place is pretty full. Mostly older clientele. Prices are ok. Food looks ok. My plate was packed, had to deconstruct it in order to start eating .I had the fish sandwich. It was served on a burnt brioche bun. The coleslaw was one big piece of mayonnaise drizzled red cabbage. Fries were undercooked. Fish wasn’t bad. Construction of the sandwich itself was strange… a few big leaves of lettuce, two tiny slices of tomato and two slices of dill pickle. They were busy so I didn’t bother to complain. Bartender seemed a bit overwhelmed. Christmas music ultimately drove me out the door. It’s freaking exhausting…everywhere this time of year. WHY does everyone feel the need to play this shit?

I had my wedding reception there this past weekend. I picked the bigtree due to its reputation as I grew up in Livingston County. I have to say I was extremely disappointed! The linens were wrinkled, the food was terrible. Burnt rolls, over cooked extremely thin rubbery prime rib, some of the potatoes were undercooked with no flavor, the carrots were hard. Some of my guest tables didn’t even get rolls and had to ask for them and then wait for them to be baked. My center pieces were supposed to have purple water and floating candles. My maid of honor was told the day of the wedding it would be too difficult to do the purple water. To make things worse they put tea light candles in the water not floating candles. And my son had to light them!!! So my center pieces were clear water with a burnt out tea light it in it!! I sampled champagne for a champagne toast... my guests didn’t even have champagne glasses and my maid of honor had to ask for our bride and groom glasses to be filled.... which happened once!! I would have bought a cake knife and server for my cake... but when I asked I was told they had one! That was also not the case! They cut the cake for me and when the Cake Place went to retrieve their cake stand, they were told they didn’t have it!!

I am sure, without a doubt that all staff members here, at the Big Tree Inn HATE THEIR JOBS! It's the ONLY explanation for their 'don't care if you're our guest or not attitude that my husband and I received while there for a 2 night stay. We have stayed in B&B's and Inns many times before, this group of people were HORRIBLE. Seemed very detached from guests, rude, almost condenseding and so not willing to engage in pleasantries at all. Growing up in this area, and back for a vist... I had always wanted to stay here, even as a young girl. Our 2 night stay was a Complete disappointment! BE WARY FOLKS. NONE OF THEM CARE IF YOUR THERE OR NOT. Makes no difference to them in the least.

Shame on you Big Tree Inn. My daughter was planning a wedding for Sept 2022 and when things changed in May 2021 they wouldn't give this child back her $500 deposit! That's 17 MONTHS before her event. I have been involved in event contracts before and typically cancelation can be 6 months prior with full refund. They took advantage of a young person and during Covid. They must truly be awful people!

I was NOT impressed with the big tree inn at all three tables out of ten didn't even get bread until it was brought to there attention the bar did have a good selection of beer either. All in all i would not recommend this place.

Fd Banquet there and they run out of vegetables and beef with 6 tables left to serve sounds like poor planning to me ... maybe they will do better next year and it was for a local fire department as well

Stopped by during over SUNY Geneseo's reunion weekend June 8, 2024. It still looks grand, but it is still closed and there is a huge sign in" front that its "available", whatever that means. It doesn't say "for sale". Their Facebook page has been updated in years... the webpage is dead. So sad to see this long time institution of fine dining closed.

Other than salad and an appetizer there is not 1 vegetarian choice on the entire menu! Very disappointing. Not even a pasta dish without meat or seafood. When I called to see if they would be willing to accommodate vegetarians the woman I spoke to was not friendly or helpful at all. She seemed annoyed that I even asked and told me to just get seafood. I explained to her that vegetarians don't eat seafood so she said "Then just get a salad." I guess she didn't understand that going out for a special occasion we'd like to get more than a salad. I eat that everyday.

We stopped at the inn for one night, bringing our freshman daughter to college from Thanksgiving break. Arrived late, very tired, had dinner, the food sounded fancy, but turned out to be very disappointing. Literally one minute that we walked into our room on the 3rd floor we received a phone call that "your kids" were too noisy. We figured someone was maybe trying to sleep early and asked to move us into a different (smaller, but for the same price) room so we wouldn't bother anybody. So they did. Next morning, soon after breakfast we started packing. I was wearing heels and walked over the stone part of the floor by Jacuzzi a couple of times while packing. Not even two minutes that we started packing, which was around 11am in the morning, the regular check-out time, a manager of the hotel barged into our room saying that there were all kind of banging noises coming from our room and there are other guests staying at this hotel. I can't even begin to describe how stunned I am at the kind of treatment we received at this establishment. Have been traveling with kids everywhere, was never humiliated and mistreated like this. Shame on you!

We went for Valentines dinner expecting a nice dinner. My husband ordered a porterhouse steak medium rare and I ordered the “southern” fried chicken. What was delivered to our table was not as expected. The steak was thin cut and tough as leather and the chicken had to have been Banquet/Tyson. Disappointedly, we were hoping to make this place as one of our staple local restaurants but had to send the steak back. (Which we’ve never had to do previously.) We are all about supporting local however, needless to say, we will not be back.
