Stopped by with family after visiting Yosemite. Got the cheeseburger, garlic fries, and side salad. Highly recommend. Plus this place has some very interesting, cool history.
Not where most vegans would want to eat lunch lol but since we are vegan for health and love guns this hunter's paradise was right up our alley. Awesome that the Beyond burger was on the menu (and delicious!). The burgers all came with a heap of crunchy herbed chips (fries) 👍 Cool to find out how old the saloon was too! Thanks guys 😁
The Iron Door Saloon in Groveland is absolutely worth a visit! The staff was extremely friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome right away. I especially have to mention the Garlic Fries – the best I’ve ever had! On top of that, the beer was served ice-cold, just the way it should be. The rustic and authentic atmosphere completed the experience perfectly and made the visit truly memorable. A fantastic place I will definitely come back to!
Alright, this place rocks. An old school dive bar with great wings, awesome atmosphere, friendly staff, and great history what else could you want on a way to Yosemite. The kitchen had a great variety of bar food with a surprising good selection of both healthy and traditional bar grabs. The wings were incredible. I wouldn’t come here expecting it to be fine dining, but for an easy laid back experience I would definitely come back. My only complaint it the desert is pretty expensive for what it is. 15 dollars for a pretty small, but delicious, slice of carrot cake. I’m definitely coming back.
This place is super cool. The atmosphere here is amazing. Lots of very unique things hanging from the ceiling and on the walls. The staff here is very friendly, professional and helpful. Did not have to wait to long for food after ordering. Everything tasted great. Worth the stop if you are in the area.
I recently tried Iron Door Saloon, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with a nice interior decor. I ordered the Western Burger, and it was delicious—fresh ingredients, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The staff was attentive and friendly, always making sure everything was perfect. The prices were reasonable for the quality, and the portions were just right. Overall it’s definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a great dining experience in the area!
A Historical Lunch at the Iron Door Saloon Had a delightful lunchtime visit to the Iron Door Saloon today. This family-friendly restaurant boasts a rich history, claiming to be the oldest saloon in California. While I can't vouch for the historical accuracy, the atmosphere certainly held a sense of charm and tradition. The restaurant itself is spacious and inviting, with a warm ambiance that felt perfect for a casual lunch. We were seated promptly and our server was friendly and attentive.

Best bar food ever. The sweet potato fries and cobb salad are so good. Fast service and cool vibe. Also the breakfast is delicious highly recommend the pancakes.
Old 49'r bar. Lots of fun. Reasonable bar prices and attached restaurant with generous portions of American food. Locals hangout with lots of visitors traveling to Yosemite.

Loved this place. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The portion size is huge and the ribs are to die for. Of our 18 day road trip this was in our top 3 restaurants. Cant wait to go back.
Highly recommend a visit to the Iron Door Saloon. Special atmosphere, history teeming from the walls and really friendly attentive staff. And the burgers are top notch too.
Definitely worth a try! We walked in to a warm welcome from the bar staff. The food was great - burgers were some of the best we have had in a while. The fries were seasoned to perfection.
What a fun place to grab lunch. I went with a party of 6 and everyone got their food pretty quick except me. Something happened and it took forever!! BUT, it wasn't really a big deal. The server brought me out fries so I had something to eat while I was waiting. Then she brought me out free homemade cookies, which were very very good. She did everything she could to be accommodating. I would recommend you go here
Drinks were good, make sure to be clear on liquor choice or well it is going to be. Food was not a good experience, onion rings were full on grease (extra charge), not sure why, clearly noticeable when serving. The chicken sandwich was ok (sauce was good). Sad as we had looked forward to trying, one of my favorite things to do is try food in a pub/bar/saloon (some of the best I have tried in the past). 😕
We weren't really sure what we would be expecting at a "historic" establishment - the oldest saloon in California. And absolutely, the place screams history. But we weren't sure because we had kids in our party. The interior is historic alright, but also really worn down. We were a bit confused as to how to enjoy the atmosphere - whether soak ourselves in 1852 or cut it slack for being quirky in 2025. The ceiling was a bit gross with spitballs of bills stuck to it like a disease. I'm sure there's some significance here but it was ghastly to say the least. And yes, it is a saloon but they could absolutely use a bit more lighting during the day. Again, at 2pm, it isn't a nightclub nor a karaoke saloon. Other than this, the entire place is again like a museum with artifacts from all over time hanging from walls and ceilings. Surprisingly, the food was quite good. The battered fries were near perfection. We were genuinely blown away on the quality of effort that was put into preparation - especially given the cuisine being American comfort food. The bacon burger was juicy and flavorful. The cobb salad was well made except they could've used a bit more fresher avocados and eggs. Other than that, it held well together. Iron Door Saloon has so much potential. All they need to do is "clean it up" a bit and be more museum and lean on history than a run-down, random collection of artifacts. The food backs it up. But everything else comes up short. The service was friendly but super slow. And I don't think it was our table only. And there weren't many in restaurant. If you are passing by Groveland, and want a bit of history, then this is it. But I wouldn't recommend it more than once a few years.
Iron Door Saloon has a great atmosphere, history, and memorabilia from the Gold Rush era. It is a must-visit if you are in Groveland. The food is good, and the highlight is the homemade potato chips. They are crispy and simply delicious. I ordered the turkey club sandwich, which was delicious. It has a good balance of ingredients and bread. The only downside was the Margarita cocktail. It was too sweet and tasted like soda.
Had it the first night we got to Pine Mountain Lake for our Yosemite weekend trip. Food was average, good enough to keep us fed and satisfied. The rack of ribs could do a little more char/roast, a tad bit slathered with too much sweet BBQ sauce. The Avocado shrimp salad was delicious and fresh. Buffalo wings were a little too spicy for my liking but the batter was done perfectly 👍🏻 all in all I guess there must a reason it's the oldest and long serving salon/restaurant bar in the area! Oh we had the cheesecake to go it was the highlight of the meal, love it ♥️
Such an incredibly historic place in this tiny little town of Groveland. We only ended up here because this town essentially shuts down in the late fall/winter. We happened to be here staying at the …
Friendly service throughout our meal. Food won't blow you away but it's a very good option in town. We ordered the burger, turkey club and kids chicken strips. Would definitely come back.

Ate lunch and dinner there today as it was convenient. Food was decent but super overpriced. The service was abysmal. I won't be back.

Had a couple of tasty burgers!! Plus the place is full of history, stories and fun stuff! Loved the photos.
We have heard a lot about this Place to decided to give it a try. They have interesting history along with pretty wild interiors. We didn’t find food items to be any extra ordinary as they were mostly usual taste for beyond burger and fries. We loved their salad dressing though. Their prices are high compared to the quality and quantity of the food. They also have pretty cool breakfast menu if you want to explore that option.

Had a couple of drinks here to see the inside of the saloon. The drinks were not very impressive. We had better drinks across the street at Hotel Charlotte.
The food was terrible — almost the worst I’ve ever had. The bread tasted like it wasn’t fresh. My friend ordered avocado toast, and it literally turned out to be just a piece of bread with two thin slices of avocado on top, nothing else. They didn’t even give ranch with the potatoes. The restroom was super inconvenient — about 2x2 and very narrow. The interior in the main hall was nice, and if it weren’t for the performer on stage, I would have given it a 1. The first thing I wanted was tasty food, but the menu turned out to be poor, and the food wasn’t good at all.

We stopped there on our way home from Yosemite. It was the most overpriced restaurant for the quality of food. Some of the food was inedible. I'll never go there again or recommend to anyone.

Overly loud, smoky, expensive, very much locals-only watering hole in a tiny hillbilly village. We made the mistake of spending a night in Groveland, CA, and the only place open for dinner was the Iron Door Saloon/Grill. Very much a locals place where if the staff do not recognize you, you are treated poorly. We waited 5 minutes before a patron told us to just [pick a table? This after both bartenders and both waitstaff stared at us as they chatted with locals. After sitting, we tried to order 2 different mixed drinks from the drink menu (which did not list prices). Since the place had no blueberries or blackberries, we asked for water. That was a mistake. We got 2 plastic cups with slightly cool tap water. After another 5 minutes our waiter gave us menus and asked us what we wanted. We replied that since we have never been there before, we needed a few minutes. Another mistake. 10 minutes later after flagging our waiter down from his conversation with locals, bartenders, and anyone but us, we ordered chicken strips (for my wife) and a BLT for me. Both came with potato chips - fries cost another $2. My 2 star rating for food applies to the BLT. Lots of bacon even though the wheat bread was more burnt than toast. Sadly, had to scrape off several excess spoons of cheap mayo. My wife liked the chicken strips but, had to beg for ranch dressing to dip them in. Atmosphere is cliche old west saloon and smells of marijuana and old deep fryer grease. The place boasts being the oldest saloon in CA. Nope. We were going to pay with a credit card when a couple next to us said the owners will add 5% to your bill. Took another 10 minutes to get the bill. From the time we walked in till we left was 60 minutes! For 2 cups of water (never refilled), a BLT and 4 chicken strips? We left $45 which just covered the 2 entrees and sales taxes. The waiter did nothing to warrant any tip but, he got about 55 cents. We regretted eating at this place, were made to fee like a burden to the waitstaff, and have made sure our friends, family, and colleagues who are visiting Yosemite NP avoid this place. Our time in Groveland, CA was a serious mistake.
food: average service: poor at best atmosphere: ok This place should boast "the highest prices in california" instead of the oldest saloon. Yes, the decor is kinda cool, but unfortunately, I had to take a second mortgage to purchase a plain ol' burger. Crazy.
We were driving back from Yosemite and had planned in advance to visit Iron Door Grill tavern as it looked very charming and authentic in the photos online. Unfortunately, our actual experience was a complete disappointment. When we arrived in the evening, the main dining hall was full, so we were led to a small side room and told to wait until a table became available. After about 15 minutes, we noticed that a group of Americans walked in and were immediately seated in the main hall, while we were still waiting. Shortly after, a waitress approached us in a very unfriendly tone and told us to follow her. She led us to another room that was absolutely uninviting — just plain tables and chairs, with none of the cozy atmosphere shown online. When we asked if we could sit in the main hall instead, we were told there would be no chance of getting a table there. We left feeling disappointed and with a very unpleasant impression, including a sense of discrimination. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
