The drinks were tasty and stunning to look at. The food was great, expect to pay for it though as it's a little pricey but worth it. The whiskey flights are a great way to find out what you enjoy. The service was super friendly and quick.
My first visit to Whiskey Barrell Lounge was an excellent experience. My server, Sabina, met me at the host stand and walked me to my table. She asked if it was my first time, and when I indicated it was, she offered to make suggestions for my drink and meal. After a brief, friendly discussion she recommended the Tokyo Old-Fashioned for my drink, Deviled Eggs as an appetizer, and Steak Frites with a small side Ceasar salad. Everything was tasty and delicious! The food was made as ordered and brought out right on time. My compliments to the chef and bartender. I like that there was a small carafe of water at my table. I opted to get Creme Brule for dessert, another excellent recommendation by Sabina. This was a great experience. The manager, hostess, and owner all said hello to me while I was in the restaurant. This is a well run establishment, with a great atmosphere, and attentive, friendly staff. Highest recommendation to dine at Whiskey Barrell Lounge.
Small menu but the Mussels were amazing and the cocktails I loved so much. Will for sure be heading back as soon as I can! Went back today for happy hour and had two great cocktails and some delicious fries! Seasonal cocktail menu was looking really strong.
Our new favorite place! The food is amazing and the staff is wonderful!!!! Beautiful environment and great selection of wine, beer, and of course spirits. Ami is the owner and is so attentive and kind, setting a great example for her staff which is a happy and accommodating group! We will be back over and over again. If I could give 10 stars I would!
We loved everything about this place. The owner or manager has done an excellent job hiring quality informative staff. Our bartender Matt was excellent. When you have whiskey in your name you better have a knowledgeable staff and a good selection. Whiskey Barrel had both of those. We ordered an old fashioned and a shot of whiskey we have never heard of thanks to Matt. The burger came out PERFECT cooked to perfection with quality ingredients. I hope they never remove this from the menu because it is definitely one of the best I have had. We eat a lot of burgers because my husband has a burger blog so we know what makes a good burger. I hope the chef knows The Whiskey Barrel burger is note worthy and a menu item most people will enjoy. The overall menu is well balanced and not too large. Keep up the good work!!
Delicious food with the perfect ambiance for a date night. So grateful to find a place with high quality food that doesn’t require me to drive to Portland. Extra shoutout to the amazing staff. Our server went out of his way to accommodate my request of a special mocktail. I’ll be recommending this place to everyone!
A hidden gem in Happy Valley! I’m always so impressed by the service here. The servers and bartenders REALLY know their stuff. I really enjoy their drink menu, specifically the “American Beauty” The ambience is dark and romantic, great for a date night!
Yep! This is it folks. Feels swanky and has a great vibe but the prices are still super reasonable. The burger was absolutely to die for. And their drinks were done up very well. Service was extremely quick and our server was very very nice. They even got creative in making a nice mock tail for my pregnant wife. They're outdoor patio seating was cute even though it feels like you're in a little bit of an alley. We will definitely be back and can't wait to hang out for a while to sip on drinks with friends.
We had a wonderful experience at the bar. Our bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. Our drinks were superb. We had no idea that they had a full kitchen with a kickass menu! Can't wait for our next date night here.
The place is friendly and open concept. The waitress was able to make good selections even for me who doesn't drink alcohol! My friends enjoyed the drinks as well as the food
First time coming to this restaurant and it was pure bliss! The atmosphere is wonderful, the drinks are amazing, the food is delicious, and the staff is great. We had a big group and Melanie took care of us. Will definitely be back and will definitely recommend.
Amazing drinks and tasty food. My girlfriend and I wandered downstairs from the taproom upstairs and we were blown away. An incredible whiskey selection and we were lucky it was top shelf Tuesday- 20% off all whiskeys over 20$ 😳
I have to say it’s amazing. Everything was absolutely perfect and that’s near impossible to say now days. The Steak was a 10/10 the burger was a 10/10 and I have to say the whiskey served in a smoke dome was perfection. This is how you run a business👍
Delicious food and wonderful cocktails at Whiskey Barrel Lounge! The staff is exceptionally friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. The atmosphere is classy but laid back, especially on weekdays when it isn't packed. You can go in and feel sophisticated without getting dressed up or breaking the bank. If your family is in town, if you're going out for a date night, or if you just want to sit with friends and sip whiskey, there isn't a better place in Happy Valley! 5 stars all the way!
This place was so great! The cocktails were super delicious and the food was top tier. I was in a group in the cellar for a private event and I would recommend this place to everyone looking for a great time service.
My husband and I stopped in for a nice dinner after hiking about 15 miles earlier that day. We didn’t have reservations but they were able to seat us within 10 minutes or so. I’d definitely recommend reserving a table on a weekend. We tried a couple of drinks that were very tasty. Cesar salad was fresh and a small was big enough for us to split. The steaks were superb, as well as the sides. We both left quite pleased!
We enjoy the spacious atmosphere, that they take reservations and the well executed cocktails . Great drink program with gorgeous house cut ice. We’ve enjoyed the Waygu burger, steak salads and those wonderful pork devil eggs. Please bring them back as we don’t like the fishy ones. Super attentive GM . Takes good care of us.
Went here with my family (8 people), and had an awesome experience! The server was kind and energetic, would also make suggestions for you if you needed them. The service was quick. I don't remember having to wait long for drinks, appetizers, and the main courses. I was impressed too because the place was packed that night. I had the salmon, and I thought it was perfect. Flavor was great! I ate the whole thing and was super full and happy. I also had a few of the seasonal cocktails which were fun and worth the money. This is a place to go splurge a little bit. I personally want to come back for a date night with my fiance. The bar looks like a cool place to sit. Good vibes all around.
Came here for some drinks but got some food do. The bartender did a great job — prompt service, good quality drinks. Got some of the steak frites & the meat was perfectly seasoned & well cooked. I’ve had steak frites in several places in Portland area & this was the best seasoned & cooked meat. Would get it again. Too bad it’s in happy valley..
The food, as usual, was spectacular and our server Sabina was just as great. It was a treat to take my mother in law out for a dinner experience that impressed her so positively. Thank you for another delicious meal and fantastic service!
Hosted a moms holiday party at WBL. The party was close to 20, yet the restaurant was incredibly accommodating. -Our server (Kayla) was on point and gracious. -Cocktails were fabulous. Most of our group ordered (and loved!) the Side Piece. -Food was delicious! Understandably, it took a bit of time to get the entrees out but considering a group our size, they were timely. Such a gem in Happy Valley... don't sleep on this place!
First time at this establishment. Amazing service by John, our server and the bar tender. This was a dinner birthday occasion and they went in detail with dressing up the table with cute fresh petite flowers and made the menu personalized with ‘happy birthday to (recipient name)’. Food (salmon dish was cooked perfect) was delicious and cocktails were on point. The rest of the staff were great as well. I would return to this establishment again and recommend.
Great place hidden downstairs. Low light intimate space. Great food and spirt selection. Only down side is it closes early last call was 9:30.
Love the ambiance here and decor! Another favorite is the whiskey selection here and the food was absolutely delicious. Been here 3x so far and never disappoints. Highly recommend this place!!
Everything was amazing. I can't stop thinking about the Steak Al Forno. Great taste, texture and finish. Appetizers and drinks were amazing also. The manager was super nice and introduced himself and got the birthday boy a drink. Highly recommend this place.
You MUST visit!! Taylor and Eddie!! Absolutely amazing bartenders!! Food is an explosion of flavor!! The old fashion …smoked….TO DIE FOR! Worth every penny!
Beautiful interior, great service, drinks were perfect and the food was delicious. We had the pork chop, deviled eggs and house salad with chicken. They offer some really unique cocktails and a better whiskey selection than most. This spot is what was missing for us in the Happy Valley community. So glad we discovered it and will definitely be back!
I really liked the chucked sandwich and I found the portions generous. Sophia was a the hostess who sat us and answered questions and was very nice.
This was my first visit to the Whiskey Barrel Lounge, a recommendation from a bartender unrelated to this establishment. My friend and I had a phenomenal experience and cannot recommend it enough. If you enjoy whiskey, in particular, this place is a "must visit." The cocktails were unique and amazing. If you like your whiskey neat, the pours were very reasonably priced. The staff and bartenders were attentive and engaging without being intrusive -- a difficult balance. The food was good, but it's the cocktails that will bring me back. I live near Hillsboro and it's worth the drive.
I can't believe we haven't gone here earlier than last night. I have been wanting to come here for quite sometime in which we went for my birthday. I wish I had photos to share but the food looked so good we ate it before we could take photos. I had the house salad which is not your normal house salad as their salads are seasonal specials that include the most tasty toppings such as MIXED GREENS, ARUGULA, ROASTED PICKLED BEETS, GOAT CHEESE CRUMBLE, SPICED PECANS, ORANGE, CHAMPAGNE VINAIGRETTE and you can add the following GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST. ROASTED SALMON. GRILLED STEAK I added mine with the chicken and it was sooooo good. My husband was not that hungry so he just got an appetizer which he got the bacon wrapped dates. These are a must have. Yum so good! For birthdays you actually get to choose from anything off their scrumptious dessert menu which is made by a local baker and is also seasonal. I had their crème brulee and it was fabulous . I also want to rave about the service and the atmosphere. Service was the absolute best service!!!! The atmosphere was so nice, classy, beautiful yet very relaxed and comfortable. I loved the candles and dimmed lights. Perfect for date nights. This place will definitely become a regular for my husband and I now. Thank you Whiskey Barrel Lounge
First stop for dinner: Such a wonderful little spot. Located below the Valley Public House. Happy hour is only 1 hour, but a great menu. Our server, Melanie, was fantastic. The food was terrific. We'll be back. Absolutely worth a stop. Second stop for brunch: brunch wasn't quite as wonderful as dinner. Pretty bland meals. Had the chicken and waffle ( nothing special, we've had much better) cluckstack ( same, gravy was bland) and seasonal cinnamon roll ( needed more cinnamon, raspberry compote was nice) Might skip brunch, but we'll try dinner again.
Newly open, and with the ups and downs of COVID, it is understandable they have a small menu at this time. Head downstairs to this restaurant inside Valley Public House. The ambiance is an A+, from the gorgeous furnishings to the back bar, even the music hits the speak easy vibe right. Our appetizer special was delicious, fried artichokes. Salad and soup was great. My steak was cooked correctly, but it did seem tough. Sadly, no wine list yet. But we were told that is coming. Friendly service. Love the owners. Recommend making a reservation. No dress code, but it’s fun to get in the spirit for this place, so why not spruce up a bit if your going out?
First time dining in tonight. For the price of the food and drinks we weren't at all impressed. The shrimp scampi noodles were undercooked and the sauce lacked flavor. The fries were greasy and were small shreds. The lemonade was extremely sour.
My wife and I recently attended my company Christmas party at Whiskey Barrel Lounge and had a great time. The buffet included lemon chicken, steak, French fries, and rice pilaf. I tend to be picky about steak, and this one was a bit chewy for my taste. The lemon chicken was not bery flaverful, and while I didn’t try the rice pilaf, my wife mentioned it wasn’t her favorite. The French fries, though, were good and ended up being my main dinner choice. We’ve eaten at Whiskey Barrel Lounge before and enjoyed the food, the buffet wasn’t quite the same level, but everything else more than made up for it. The service in the banquet room was excellent, and the staff in the game room was much the same way. The game room itself was fun about 20 pinball machines and a shuffleboard table kept us entertained for a couple hours. We had a lot of fun playing and it really added to the evening. Overall, I had to knock it down one star for the food but the service and entertainment is a solid four stars.
This place has a great ambience and the entrees were all delicious. Drinks were made quickly and they had a good variety--not just whiskey based but something for everyone! The wait staff were also attentive and quick. Unfortunately the desserts weren't quite as good as the rest. Overall, would come back here!
We’ve been here several times recently. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect…. BUT They broke one of the most cardinal rules when it comes to dining at a restaurant. All the meals should arrive at or near the same time. We had to wait 8 minutes between the delivery of the first two meals and the second two meals at our table. Given the $49 Tenderloin price, a dinner party should not have to wait that long for half of their meals to be served while the first half gets cold. Oh and they completely forgot to ever make and serve our appetizers. We went again a few nights later, and our meals were good and we had no issues. However, the table next to us had “refrigerator-cold” french fries and the other person at that table had burnt toast. This time, the restaurant was mostly empty. Issues with timing and quality should not exist at a restaurant with this price point. And when they do have issues like this, management should step in and make things right. Mistakes happen, but how you handle them is key.
Ambiance was pretty sweet, we did wait for about 35 min for someone to finally come over and at that time our waitress apologized for no one helping us ( I would have understood however there was barley anyone there) anyways she took our drink and food order all at once, service was very slow, but our waitress was very nice. The food wasn't bad and our drinks ( 47 roses and pretty in pink were delicious). Overall it was a neat experience
We love coming here and we made reservations for Saturday evening for a birthday party but we were a little disappointed this time around. Firstly, the food was great and super fast but it was the service that was not. It took 15 minutes after being seated for our server to come up and acknowledge us and they weren't super busy. We ordered drinks and appetizers and were also ready to order food since it had been 15 minutes but he didnt take our dinner order. It took an additional 25 minutes for him to come back and take our order. By the time we were done and finally leaving we had been there for 2 hours and 10 minutes! As I mentioned before, we were celebrating a birthday, so this extra time here took time away from our fun game night afterwards that we rented a limo for. As a server/bartender myself for the last 10 years, it appeared the main server was serving almost all of the tables besides a couple, even though there were plenty of workers. They need at least 3 or 4 servers during the dinner time at this type of higher end establishment on weekend nights. Properly manage and have tables shared appropriately between servers, not one server trying to take them all.
First I want to say the drinks were fantastic! The food was good, however the reason I am giving three stars overall is because they broke a cardinal rule when it comes to food service. I didn't think I would need to ask them NOT to bring our entrées out BEFORE we finished our appetizers because of the supposed caliber of the establishment. We were barely half way through our appetizers when they brought out our entree. We had to move the appetizers to make room and watch the entrees sit on the table and get cold while we finished the appetizers! It's supposed to be simple, APPETIZERS FINISHED AND PLATES CLEARED THEN BRING OUT ENTREE! Plus the place gets really loud, hang some cloth between the ceiling beams to absorb sound. We may give them a second chance at a later date.
I’ve been to this whiskey bar more than ten times, and unfortunately, the service has been consistently disappointing. Whether I visit in the afternoon or evening, the experience is the same—slow service when it’s not busy and rushed service when it is. There’s no balance, and worse, it often feels like the staff is irritated by customers being there, as if we’re putting them out. I come from a family with experience in the hospitality industry, so I understand what good service looks like. I also know that I’m a kind and respectful customer—I don’t come in complaining or causing issues. But despite that, I’ve repeatedly noticed that the staff seems disengaged, impatient, and more focused on getting out the door than on creating a welcoming experience. That kind of energy is noticeable, and it’s not a good look. This place is close to where I live, so I’ve given it multiple chances, but at this point, I have to ask—what’s the incentive to keep coming back? I can go anywhere, and when I choose to spend my time and money at a place, I want to feel like it’s worth it. If the people working here don’t enjoy what they’re doing, it shows, and it directly impacts the customer experience. Hospitality is about more than just serving food and drinks; it’s about creating an atmosphere that makes people want to return. I hope management takes this into consideration because this bar has potential. But without a shift in attitude and service, it’s hard to justify choosing it over other places that prioritize the customer experience.
Have been there 3 times. Stick with a sandwich, as steak is tough and not cooked correctly. Don't order stroganoff....absolutely horrible. Waitress is pleasant, but spendy for what you get. Service is great, food not so much unless you like French fries. They load your plate up!
This place was alright, but not a place that seems worth going back to. Things felt overly expensive for what we got, even with the “fine dining” label. The staff were a bit short with us as well. One of my biggest issues were with the fry appetizer; it’s labeled on the menu as “hand-cut fries with aioli,” standard appetizer on bar menus. They did not note that all fries are seasoned with rosemary, which I cannot have in large amounts. I didn’t even think of asking if it was there because, typically, this isn’t a dish with rosemary in it. Only got to have a couple, which was a bummer and turned me off for the evening. They did have a wide selection of drinks, but again, very expensive for what we got. There’s better fine dining and drinks elsewhere for cheaper.
This place started off with a solid food game a few years ago, like they hired a good chef and were aiming to be a Happy Valley fine food and drink venue. Unfortunately, the quality has fallen off a cliff over the last year or so. We had a completely disastrous Valentine's Day dinner there last night with them trying to cram all 4 courses onto the table before we even finished our pre-dinner cocktail. We asked them to at least hold off cooking our entrees until we ate the first course and they obviously had already cooked them and they just sat back in the kitchen. We were literally 15 minutes into our reservation time. When they brought the entrees out, my steak had continued to cook under a heat lamp or something, so my medium steak was well done. My wife's linguine and prawns was gelatinous and soft and really fishy tasting. I woke up sick in the middle of the night. We're never eating there again. A note to whoever makes up the drinks: you don't need to put edible glitter in everything. SMH.
Server was friendly. Water was room temperature with no ice. Drinks took 30 mins to arrive after we ordered the first round. More than an hour from being seated to getting our food. Medium burger came out medium well, and was skimpy on the lettuce. The Mac and cheese was really good. A lot of gouda flavor. Large party and we weren't asked about separate checks. We let the server know we would be on a separate check and that did come out correctly. One of the drinks I ordered never came. Overall very slow service.
Had dinner here tonight. My wife had the steak frites and I had the hamburger. The menu said the meat patty was 1/3 of a pound but it wasn’t close to that. It came with lots of overpowering soft cheese that I scraped off. It was all I could taste. There was a little bacon and the thinnest piece of wilted lettuce. For $22, I expect a better burger. The steak needed a sauce - chimmichurri or peppercorn. It was good, but a bit of sauce would have made it better. They tout their fries but mine were stale. My wife got a cocktail she loved. I had a Coke which I finished, and the server took away without offering a refill. $5 Cokes should come with refills. With tip, it was a hundred dollars. There are a million places in Portland where you could get this meal and service that would be better, and come in closer to $75.
We’ve been pretty frequent diners here and have never had a bad experience until tonight. I’m really hoping it was just an off night, but the customer service was extremely disappointing. Normally, the food comes out quickly (in fact, we’ve even commented before on how fast and consistent everything is). We got our fries and drinks shortly after ordering, but then waited about 45 minutes before our server came back to ask if we were ready for the check… before we’d even received our meals. About 15–20 minutes later, a table that was seated after us got their food, and we got ours right after. To top it off, we were charged for drink refills which I’m not sure is new or not. But for paying almost $100 for fries, steak pasta, and a salad that took over an hour to arrive, it just wasn’t the experience we’ve come to expect from this restaurant. Hoping this was just an off night because we’ve really enjoyed dining here in the past.
It was my second and I ordered the Charcuterie board. It seemed like they had gone to Safeway and got a snack box and put it on the board. I requested a Diet Coke and they brought me a coke can and pour it in front of me. I felt like I was at a Chinese restaurant. I should've brought my own Coke can. If you claim to have high standards and Quality food this isn't the way.
We’ve given this restaurant a few chances, but the past few visits have really gone downhill. The food was just okay — nothing special, and definitely not worth the wait. Service was incredibly slow from start to finish; it took almost two hours total for drinks, food, and the check. What really stood out this time was how rude our server was. We were polite and patient the entire time, I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, I get it, some nights are hard, but her attitude caught us off guard. She would say multiple times “sorry I got caught up in the back” but she was on the floor almost the entire time going to other tables and ignoring ours. It also took forever just to get water refills or place our drink orders. Overall, it was a frustrating experience and not one we’ll be repeating anytime soon
The food was awful. The salmon was dry and overcooked. The chicken on the stroganoff was dry and tasted like it was days old. We tried this restaurant for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. When we walked in, the atmosphere was great. The service was also great, but the food was so bad it ruined the night. It was such a disappointment. If we go back, it will be just to have a cocktail at the bar.
I am severely disappointed with my visit today. This is not my first time but every time it’s more disappointing. Today we came and ordered two drinks and an appetizer and our server never came back to take our order. We watched him go to every table but ours. We eventually after 30 minutes gave up and walked up to the bar to just pay and leave. There was also only 5 tables including us super dead (now can see why) I would not recommend coming here there’s so many better places around here to go.
