Best dinner I’ve had in Portland. The food was unreal. The Strangolapreti en Pozole was honestly life changing, and everything else we had was just as dialed in, especially the Three Cup Chicken and the Khao Soi Radiatori. Creative, memorable, and just ridiculously good. James was our server and was awesome. Super down to earth, polished, and genuinely great at what he does. He absolutely has a future in hospitality if he wants one. Julia was great too and exactly the kind of person you want taking care of guests. Can’t wait to come back.
Came here for brunch for the first time. Menu had interesting items we were excited about like Kaya toast and griddled banana bread. Those items were the best and most well done. The soy cured egg yolk to dip the toast was a good flavor contrast to the rich and sweet toast. We also ordered the Taiwanese porridge and the standard breakfast plate with eggs, protein and potatoes. Drinks were great and service very accommodating with our dietary restrictions
Xiao Ye is easily one of the most special dining experiences in Portland. From the moment you walk in, the space feels incredibly thoughtful. The decor is stunning, warm, elevated, and beautifully designed. It’s the kind of place where every detail feels intentional and creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and effortlessly cool. The food is truly out of this world. Every dish feels deeply personal, layered with flavor, and executed with incredible precision. Xiao Ye’s approach to “first generation American food” brings together nostalgic influences and bold creativity in a way that feels both comforting and completely new. Each bite is memorable, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The chef’s vision shines through in everything, and the staff matches that excellence. The team is knowledgeable, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about the experience they’re creating. You feel taken care of from start to finish. Xiao Ye is more than just a meal, it’s an experience. Incredible food, impeccable service, and my favorite decor in the city. Portland is lucky to have a place like this.
Xiao Ye quickly became a favorite restaurant in Portland for me! The Khao soi radiatori and cornbread madelines are our favorite go-to, but the seasonal offerings and special nights are always spot on. The staff are all kind and warm, I always enjoy their wine selection, and every meal feels like a special experience with unique dishes that feel like comfort food and fine dining at the same time ✨
Truly one of the best and most unique dinners I've had in PDX. They do fusion right, inspired flavors that come at you in waves of differentiation and surprise. The dishes are all incredibly singular and unique, from taro fritter flavor bombs to blissfully unique takes on khao soi or pork chops. Try everything! The cocktail menu itself left a bit to be desired, but try the classics and you won't be disappointed (especially their old fashioned) Definitely a lovely place to go out with friends, family, a special date, or just yourself
What a delight when a restaurant lives up to its hype - 4 extraordinary courses made for a perfect meal on our first visit. The Mini Madelines (Lily Allen, eat your heart out), Napa Cabbage Wedge, “Khao Soi” Radiatori (we’ve spent loads of time in Thailand and were pok pok regulars, this elevated, fusion dish goes toe-toe with any of them), and finally the Grilled Pork Chop - that jaew, balanced with the smoky, tender meat and bitter chicories? Wow! (Pro tip - ask for a side of rice with the pork chop or better yet also order the 3 cup chicken that comes with it.) While impossible to sum up a menu in a word, balance is the one that comes to mind - each bite so perfectly layered and satisfying.
Xiao Ye was amazing. Some of their dishes had unique and totally new flavors. We were blown away. Loved everything, especially the Madeleines, the Napa cabbage wedge, and the khao soil radiator. Delicious. The staff was great and the space is cute and it was not too loud. We could easily speak to each other.
This is an extraordinary restaurant. The food was unbelievable, service is friendly and impeccable and the aesthetic is really cool and interesting. A mix between contemporary and my grandmother's house from the '80s... but in a good way! I went for a birthday dinner and it was absolutely perfect. Even their nonalcoholic cocktails are unbelievable. One of the best restaurants in Portland, no doubt. They were also incredibly accommodating to food allergies. They spent so much time and effort. If you are coeliac or lactose intolerant you can make this work no problem.
Absolutely loved this place! The ambiance is beautiful and inviting, and the service was excellent—warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. But the real star was the food. Every dish was unique and bursting with flavor. The radiatori pasta, panzanella salad, mini madeleines, and three cup chicken were all standouts, but honestly, we tried almost everything on the menu and nothing missed. A truly memorable dining experience—I can’t wait to come back!
We came here for my dad’s birthday and we’re truly blown away! We sat at the counter seats by the kitchen and it was a great time watching the line. Cocktails we had were 10/10. We had the Tokyo Jazz club + White Negroni and both were amazing but the White Negroni was particularly memorable. Food wise, the Madeline’s and Beef tartare was a crazy strong start. Probably the best I’ve had in years. The curry pasta was boldddd. Loved. The truffle pasta was also bomb. The banana jam on the pork chop was crazy. 👏 I usually have more photos of the food but my dad was too stoked to let the phone eat first 😂 Can’t wait to see what else they come up with.
Delicious food and considerate service! Each bite was full of amazing flavors that were unusual and yet worked together. The madelines are a must have. The chicken liver toast with pickled strawberries doesn't seem like it should work but it absolutely does. The 'fancy instant coffee' fit the vibe of the restaurant and was surprisingly good. I'll definitely want to return when the menu changes with the season.
Very homey place that still has such a classy feel (cloth napkin type) with amazing food that’s seasoned just right. Huge flavors that aren’t overpowering on mismatched plates that add to the family style serving. My boyfriend and I sat at the table that faced the open kitchen and loved the show Drinks: > Non #1 - Not bad. A nice bubbly drink with a nice fruit and citrus blend. It looks pretty small in the glass so I was a little disappointed > Strawberry Ghia Lemonade - delish! No complaints and love the hint of mint Food: > Mini Madelines: it may feel silly to spend more than $5 on bread but these are crafted so beautifully that even without the butter I would have devoured them. They have an unexpected hint of spice from the jalapeño dusted on. I know I’m going to dream of them for the rest of my life. > Shrimp: it also feels silly to spend $7 on one piece of shrimp but with it shelled and then yuzu mayo and seasonings, god I would have ordered 6 more > Corn ribs: delish and it was very thoughtful that it came with a dish to throw the “bones” in as well as wet wipes because it’s best to eat with your hands. My only comment would be that I wish it came with toothpicks, but other than that I’m dying to know the spice blend > Khao Soi pasta: I was expecting the sauce to be thicker but I’m so glad it proved me wrong. Super simple but bold. Wish there were more chicken pieces but I recommend it nonetheless > Chicken: I’ve only liked mushrooms three times in my life and today was the third. If only the maitake came out, I would have gobbled it with the basil and ginger in the gorgeous dark soy sauce up, but the chicken was tender and crispy. Honestly for me the green onion slices tasted exactly like the green onions on the yakitori I would order as a kid growing up in Japan > Gelato: no notes just love Last notes: I feel like good service is hard to come by sometimes and then 20% tip feels obligatory. Everything from the bottled water to refill as the night when on, to staff bringing over a menu with notations on what is and isn’t ok for someone with a shrimp allergy, to seeing servers wiping dishes to make them more presentable before they went out, to timeliness, to wiping the table between courses was all so nice. But of all of those things, what really got me was the coasters. As a second gen immigrant I couldn’t help but shed a small tear. Can’t wait to come back ❤️
Go here and order everything on the menu! Went here for dinner with some friends and let the chef choose our selection, she did not disappoint! Everything was amazing!!! Drinks and service were also top notch. We’re already planning our next visit here. Also SUPER accommodating to allergies which we really appreciated.
The food here is very good. It's a fusion of European cooking with Asian flavors, but overall everything was relatively simple and just delicious. They have a good wine selection. The service here is really exceptional, some of the best service I've had in a while. The staff is so on point it really elevates the experience. It's certainly not cheap, but for the quality of food and wine that you get, its reasonable compared to other places that are on par. This place is fancy, but better suited for groups or families than other places that are more uptight.
Really incredible meal at Xiao Ye. First Generation American is the perfect description of this type of food. It reminded me of meals from childhood from multiple restaurants all rolled into one. There were Thai dishes, French dishes, and Indian dishes across the courses and it all worked wonderfully. The fresh pasta course and Napa cabbage salad were some stand outs, but ever dish was don perfectly. Cocktail program is also strong here. We were a party of 5 so we got to try them all. A must repeat dinner!
Cannot recommend enough. Truly one of Portland’s best restaurants, with fine dining quality and zero pretentiousness. The space is beautiful, the menu is original (I’ve loved everything I’ve tried), cocktails are delicious, and you can tell the team infuses care and hospitality into every aspect of the experience. There are also tasty non-alcoholic drinks and teas, and the waitstaff are always helpful in pointing out which dishes can be modified to suit different dietary needs. I do recommend making a reservation for busier night, or trying their once-a-month burger special (different every time).
The entire experience was a 10/10. Every single dish was flavorful and perfectly balanced with textures, and uniqueness. Highly recommend getting the fried chicken to share (it comes with a ton of sides too), salted shrimp, cold noodles, kampachi, rigatoni, and the snow on the beach cocktail. Honestly as I was writing this I realize that every single dish was spot on so just get it all. lol The staff was so friendly and sweet including co-owner, Jolyn, who was so sweet and down-to-earth. The decor and atmosphere is quaint and adorable. I'm recommending this spot to every person I know. This is one of my new favorite restaurants and I will absolutely be back!
We recently came here for brunch and the place was pretty busy. The place has a nice open feel to it with the kitchen being open. The menu had some of your standard brunch items, with some that were unique. We ordered the Malaysian style coffee bun, Kaya brick toast, breakfast sando, and Taiwanese rice porridge to share. I thought the Kaya brick toast was interesting with the soy-cured egg yolk on the side. It did have a nice flavor to it when combined. The Taiwanese rice porridge was ok. I did really enjoy their breakfast sando (with sausage). They made something simple taste really good. It's a must get item for sure. I'll have to try their dinner one of these days.
My family and I went to Xiao Ye because of the reviews and it is part of the new Chase offering. We were about 15 minutes early and even though there were empty tables they asked us to wait by the door until it was closer to our reservation time. We assumed they had their systems but still odd. Our server was nice but not any more than other restaurants. We are an Asian family who love to eat and we were so excited about trying the food especially the Khao Soi pasta dish which my sister ordered. Khao Soi is my favorite Thai dish. Unfortunately, the dish lacked much flavor with only hints of the original. Maybe my palate is not made for fusion? I ordered the pork and it was tender. The flavor was ok. I also ordered the Napa cabbage salad which was amazing. My brother in law had a dumpling dish but the flavors didn’t mesh. Lastly, my nephew had a chicken dish which had chicken on top of what seemed like a black bean sauce. The sauce reminded us of a Korean Chinese dish called jjajamyeon. Once again it was ok but not fabulous. We wished it could have been a new discovery for us to return to but it was disappointing.
The atmosphere and open kitchen were a vibe, and the staff were incredibly friendly—especially in accommodating a celiac allergy. We took our waiter’s suggestion to share dishes, but the portions were way too small for that. We tried all the hot dishes plus the wedge and corn ribs, but most fell flat in flavor and presentation. The Radiatori was the most flavorful and well-balanced, but still nothing special, and the pork chops with banana salsa sounded great but underdelivered. With small portions, muted flavors, and high prices, it just didn’t live up to expectations.
I tend to only try restaurants that are 4.6⭐ and up. I have to say I was just not impressed with the food, but clearly lots of people like this restaurant. It's worth a try..... just wasn't my favorite. It's cool that they experiment with different flavor combinations, I just don't think they have it quite right yet. It seems in most dishes we had, there was one ingredient that just overpowered the other flavors in the dish. My favorite dish was the curry, but there was still something a little off about it. Maybe the radiator pasta just didn't match the curry, or maybe it was the mound of cilantro piled on top. 🤔 The pickled strawberries and celery on the liver mousse toast was not my favorite combo either. You really only taste pickled strawberries....and a combo of three different textures. We also ordered the tomato toast based on our waiter's recommendation, but again it was not the best. The mature basil leaves and stems just did not pair well with the other flavors in my opinion. 🤷♀️ Maybe some younger, sweeter basil leaves wouldn't have been so overpowering? It was a lot. Definitely lots of creativity and potential at this restaurant. I think I'd like to try it again in a year or two.... see where they're at.
