This hidden gem rivals any restaurant in Portland! The staff is personable and attentive, the food surprisingly belongs on a gourmet list, and unlike every restaurant in Portland they're actually open with a full menu long past 10pm. Always check the specials, because the short rib risotto was luxurious!
Very good food! The bruschetta was absolutely amazing and the burger and fries were pretty good. The atmosphere was a little too dark for me, and I was the only person in the dining area late at night (there were people in the bar though), so it was a little awkward sitting there. Would recommend!
There were 6 of us at dinner there the last week of June, 2025. We were visiting Portland for the first time. The atmosphere was so pleasant, with beautiful historic details inside; the food was incredible & our waiter, Ryan, was very knowledgeable & so friendly. I recommend this to anyone visiting.
The food here was absolutely incredible! The beef sirloin was done perfectly and the Cassidy's burger was hands down the best burger I've ever had. The chef absolutely knows what he is doing! Our waiter/bartender Shane was phenomenal! So helpful and kind. The vibe is very cozy and warm. This became one of our new go to spots in Portland tonight!
Wonderful dinner!!! This place is under appreciated as we were the only table on late Saturday night but the service, food, and atmosphere were truly exceptional. Were I to live nearby, this would be a regular neighborhood option for me. Gastropub /bistro vibe. A small but enthusiastic cocktail menu, a full rack of specials to choose from, but honestly the standard menu is full of flavorful options and if all are as tasty as what we had, this place is a treasure. And for very reasonable price points! Bruschetta appetizer, rockfish with risotto, and Piedmontese steak salad all highly recommended.
We just had a great late-night supper after a concert at the Crystal Ballroom. The service was fantastic, and our drinks were so good. Hubby had the sirloin, medium well - it was cooked perfectly on the first try - and flourless chocolate cake. I had the (amazing) gnocchi and lamb ragu and the Pear Colette. Fielder's choice old fashioned and Manhattan were made with Bulleit. I had the Manhattan and it was so refreshing to have it on the drier side. This is a great place with a speakeasy vibe, and I can't wait to come back.
Cassidy's has been around since 1979. I was impressed with the rich, deep wood interior, brass fixings, and etched glass windows. The food was well beyond the standard I expected. Fine and delicious food with well thought cocktails with amusing names.
Love the music, love the people that work at Cassidy’s, and especially the food. Don’t change a thing.
A restaurant and also a bar, this place has a lot of charm. The classic old-school look is great, they have good music and even better food, and the staff is really friendly. Definitely a cool place to eat at!
This place was super nice and our waiter was very friendly and patient. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was amazing. I ordered the burger and was definitely not disappointed! Go... now!!
This place is great! Good selection of beer and food. Supperold building that looks authentic yet well maintained over the years. The staff member we encountered was a pleasure to deal with. We will be back just as soon as we can!!
A Portland staple and one of the last original old-school bars. Frequently the final destination for those working in the restaurant and bar industry. Aside from being a great classic bar, with amazing service & offerings, don’t mistake the restaurant and food as typical or the usual bar fare. Truly amazing food offerings… upscale, but not snobby or overpriced whatsoever. I enjoyed the Warm Spinach Salad last night. It was the best, ever! Bob Cassidy and his crew always deliver, in a super clean, relaxing, and pleasant environment. The place was recently renovated due to a fire, but it hasn’t lost the old western saloon feel. Portland’s best original old-school bar!
This meal was an absolute delight. My friend and I both ordered the special, a tomato based fish stew crammed with fresh seafood. I also started with the onion soup and she got a special bruschetta. The only bad thing I can say about this restaurant is that we were too full to eat all of our food.
This entire area is a dumpster fire but Jordan (the server) along with whoever the cook is are bright spots gosh the good and service were so good !!!
Absolutely loved dining here before our concert at crystal ballroom. With the venue right around the corner it was a great spot to sit at the bar get cocktails and have a REALLY yummy dinner. I highly recommend the fried Brussel sprouts (they are gf) and the steak salad was also yummy ! Can’t wait to come back
A dark candle lit dinner with a small menu of carefully selected entrees, and a rustic, full bar. Great flavor in my choices, and generous portion sizes, it was perfect.
Amazing! A gem in the heart of the city. Food was out of this world! Reasonably priced and the staff were fantastically efficient, polite and were happy to help in any way! Thanks for an amazing experience for a couple of visiting Canucks.😁 Look forward to you opening a location in BC!
This is a family favorite of ours! We always start the evening with balsamic brussel sprouts and this year my entree was the gnocchi with braised lamb.
We were looking for a late night bite after a show at the Roseland Theater and ended up here. We were not disappointed! I had the shrimp linguine, and my man and his friend both got the sirloin. Then afterwards we got cheesecake for dessert. Didn’t get a very good picture but it was amazing, loved the caramel topping. We were all completely satisfied and still talking about it the next day. Also, great service and strong drinks lol. Thank you!
Phenomenal food and service. Chef Rames is outstanding and top notch! Get to Cassidy's and sample one of his amazing creations!
Steve is a great bartender.
Waiter was super attentive and helpful. Food was professionally presented, clean and delicious. The cocktail names were very funny too.
I absolutely love this place . Old school, chill and beautiful
Cassidy's has the best onion soup that i've ever had! They had a grilled cheese special and that was excellent too!
Warm atmosphere, excellent service. You can feel the history. The food was amazing! I will definitely be going back.
Overall casual glamorous. It’s what I’d refer to as a one up down low. Not too classy flashy with the classy favors and service
Jesse, our server, was beyond amazing. We got here about 9:45pm and was promptly greeted with a smile and sincere friendliness. He was well knowledgeable and patient as could be. I loved how often he was checking on us and making sure we were taken care of. The food was AMAZING. I wish I would've taken pictures, but it was so tasty that it I couldn't stop to take a break. I had the steak and mash potatoes and my wife had the ravioli. Between the service and the food, this was definitely one of the best places I've been to in Oregon and Washington. Thank you Jesse
We were happy to have found Cassidy's after a fun but cold and rainy stroll. The chicken soup was pretty good, as was the ravioli and bread. We had a friendly waiter who chatted with us since it was slow during our visit. It says something about a place when employees are happy to be at work!
First of all. I have been coming here for over 20 years. And I’ve never received bad food. Or Bad service. It’s not super fancy. It’s middle of the road fancy. The price reflects that. But it is amazing food. Appetizers always on point. Brussel sprouts. Perfectly done. I usually order the burger and french fries. The calamari. Corn fritters. All Really well done. My wife loves the salads here and everything else. Looking forward to bringing my daughter here.
One of a Kind Portland Diamond!!!! Come check it out before all the yuppies find it and ruin it!! Lol shhhhh
Visiting from WA. I wish I took pictures of the food, it was so good!! I was grateful to find such a nice place with a family dining room late at night after a show. Will definitely go back and would recommend. My kids had the Cassidy Burgers and they loved it too. Server/bartender was great also.
Very nice old world pub with excellent food. I had a steak salad and the steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and served on the side so I could cut it to my size preference, although it was already cut into large bites. It was a quiet time so it felt like a great date spot. But I could see it being loud if all the tables were filled.
Cassidy's is always sure to please. It is a regular stop for dinner whenever I come to Portland. The food is amazing every time, and I've tried over half the menu now. The servers and bartenders are always very friendly and will pair you a great drink with your meal.
El mejor bocadillo de carne mechada que he nunca !!! Best Pulled pork ever tried in muerto live !! Besides my mom’s, thah bourbon’s dad in The cooking is simply outsourcing
Has a beautiful, mysterious, and small-hidden old-town bar vibe. The food is amazing also.
Really tasty food! The bruschetta was a highlight — super fresh and flavorful. Burger and fries were solid too. It was pretty quiet in the dining room late at night, which felt a bit odd, but the bar still had people. A bit dark inside for my taste, but overall, I’d definitely go back.
The grilled cheese wowed me, can't deny. Pulled pork was also awesome and the service was down to earth and friendly. We popped in randomly but seemed like a good pre-concert spot for the venue next door.
Love Cassidy's! Quaint, non-prententious, feel good place for a solid drink, great meal and some good conversation. Bartender Steven always delivers when asked for recommendations and knows his mixology. Staff is genuinely friendly and this place feels like a small town, homey joint even though it's downtown. Food won't disappoint. Good vibes abound!
I went to Cassidy’s last Friday, and even though the restaurant was packed with people headed to a show across the street, I was quickly seated and had a fantastic experience. The food was excellent (the roast chicken was especially delicious), but what really stood out was the service. I have an (almost ridiculously long) list of life-threatening food allergies due to illness, and at most restaurants I’m used to being dismissed or not taken seriously, and I have had to use my epi pen more times than I can count. Not here. The bartender, Dodge, went above and beyond. He wrote down all of my allergies, carefully reviewed the menu with me, and then went back to the kitchen to confirm that my order would be safe. When the food came out, he checked in right away to make sure it met my standards and that I felt comfortable eating it. He genuinely cared, and that meant the world to me as someone who struggles to eat out due to illness. Beyond the food and service, I loved the atmosphere - dark wood, classic details, and a vibe that captures the spirit of old Portland. I truly enjoyed myself, felt well cared for, and will definitely be back. Thanks, Cassidy’s!
I love Cassidy's! Going out with a table full of folks for drinks after work... Dinner at the bar with my friends... Dinner at the bar by myself but with the gentle company of the other patrons and especially the staff, Jen and Steve who are so welcoming and chill. The menu is straightforward and so well done-always good quality and tasty. The vibes, and the half chicken dinner, (with potatoes, thank you kitchen friend) keep me coming back for more.
Made a reservation for 10, table was ready when we arrived. Our server was very polite and answered all questions about the menu. The Appetizers were delicious, shrimp corn cakes and chicken spring rolls. Our entries were served hot and our entire party was served at one time. The entries had very nice presentations. My lamb ragu was delicious, the meat was very tender and flavorful. My wife's pork shank with polenta was super tender. Our entire party was very satisfied with their meals. Well done to the entire staff🙏🙏
We celebrated our adult daughter’s birthday at Cassidy’s yesterday. It was a wonderful experience!!!! Our server was the best!! He was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We enjoyed excellent beverages and food! The seafood stew special was a big family favorite!! Also enjoyed the lamb ragu on house made fettuccine! And don’t resist the desserts!! Delicious. Crème brûlée. Chocolate flourless cake . Great ambience of old Portland scene.
Oh boy. I went here once last year and the food was actually great. Unfortunately, on my most recent trip, it was awful. My friend liked their meal, which is something I tried before. But I ordered the gnocchi chicken salad, and it was awful. Everything was cold, but it should not have been. If you slice cold meat, slice it thinly so it's pleasant to chew; gnocchi apparently tastes awful cold... bland and chewy and dry; the vinegarette was okay, but overall, the meal just was not executed well, and unfortunately, the portion was enormous. The smell in the vestibule is just about enough to put you off food altogether, truth be told. I think it's time for the owners to roll up their sleeves and overhaul this building to make it more inviting. Not many customers. The waitstaff was attentive but seemed a bit stiff and uncoordinated with one another. I'm not sure what the deal is. They're probably let down they aren't making good tips because the management isn't putting enough effort in. Just being honest. I won't be back.
This restaurant has been around for many years and may have its best years behind it. Very few people were getting dinner or drinks on a Saturday night, and we were not impressed with the food. The grilled cheese was not great, but the soup it was served with was good. I got a pork shoulder, which was cooked well but the polenta it was served with absorbed all the salty liquid and was not pleasant.
The Bartender and the pheasant were the only positives I could give this place. That being said, they were amazing and memorable. The atmosphere was bland and a tad sad and my drink was merely okay.
Very disappointing. Brussel sprouts unseasoned and greasy, risotto very watery and flavorless, fries were soggy, burger was meh. Drinks were pretty bad too. Overall very disappointing. 1.5 stars.
As much as I wanted to enjoy this Portland Institution, it was the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. We should have known when we were the only customers at 8PM on a Friday night. The server was kind, but it really couldn’t make up for failure after failure. We waited at least an hour for what tasted like microwaved meals. $100 + tip for two is typical for Portland, but signing this check was an absolute heartbreaker.
How strange, I experienced the same misfortune as a previous reviewer did going solo here. I was treated with absolutely no respect by the “bartender” 7/10/2025 845pm. Management might want to keep an eye on this clown, I left before ordering as obviously he didn’t want to do his job. Don’t go here solo, actually, don’t go at all.
Worst experience ever. I thought it would be good because my one friend liked it. I want to give it negative stars because they said they couldn't even cook fried food. They were happy serving drinks. OLCC says that as long as you are serving drinks you have to serve food. They denied me food.... olcc please check on this place! I will never go there again!
Was a patron here for 25+ years. After today it's unlikely we will return. Not sure if I've ever met the owner but I hate writing this review because he has done an outstanding job over the years. But I had a terrible experience and feel I need to share it. The bartender appeared to be the only one available to seat people and take orders, and he was clearly having a bad day... but to take it out on us as you greet us is unacceptable. And the rude, short, snappy, sarcastic interaction didn't stop. After sitting down and interacting with him again, we felt so uncomfortable by it we had to leave. It's hard to imagine returning after an experience like that. The service has always been amazing and I loved this place. I've referred dozens of people here over the years. But until I learn this person no longer works here, I doubt I can come back. It's hard to replace a seasoned bartender... I suggest keeping him as far away from the diners as possible. My guess is he didn't like us walking in at 11 pm (even though we called at 10:45 and asked before coming to confirm it would be fine). He clearly didn't want us there but if that's the case, respectfully tell us when we call and ask. We go out to have a good time. I have no idea why people like this go into the service industry. This was on Thursday, September 11th in the evening.
