If you have not been to Papa's Cafe you are missing out on a true Jem this Cafe is one of my favorites. I been here a few times and each time I go we get greeted with a friendly smile 😁 and someone who's in the back Always Always thanks the customers for eating there. I went there on Monday June 19,2023. Let me tell you about the catfish it was absolutely amazing cooked to perfection. The food is always good to me. Next time you looking for an awesome place to eat. Try Papa's Cafe. I'm sad 😭 I forgot to take pictures. But trust me it was wonderful.

Absolutely terrific!!! The service is absolutely awesome and if you’re looking for terrific down home meals this is where you wanna go!!! The restaurant is clean and it’s a pleasant atmosphere. Can’t say enough good about this place.

Although the cafe was super crowded we had really good service, our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Our food was brought to us quickly and was good.

I really love this place and go there regularly. They have a great selection, including vegetarian options. Kitchen was super kind and made a "super grilled cheese" to bring home to my husband when he was sick, full of different cheeses and veggies. They also are very helpful doing substitutions, such as switching a meat to a veggie on plates, which really opens up the options on the menu. They have a cream gravy with option include sausage rather than it being the default. Would love to see them add official veggie plates on the menu so more people are aware! Great pricing especially for seniors. My daughter is always excited to go there and say hi to all the staff, they are all so friendly and helpful. Great homestyle cooking and people!

My family has been coming here for 10 years now and they never fail to deliver devious delicious food. Their Blue Plate Special is one of my favorite next to classic bacon and eggs breakfast they serve.

Visited for the first time today. I had some of the best catfish I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was fantastic. My wife tried the liver and onions and saie it was really good and worth doing again. We will definitely returning to Papa's. Recommend this cafe to anyone wanting some really good home cooking.

My first time visiting this place and I took my mom who was visiting from out of town and it was a great choice. The food was delicious and the service was down home and friendly. They make you feel right at home and always check to make sure you are okay. I appreciate this kinda service because you don't find it to often. Keep up the good work! We will definitely be back.

Perfectly cooked eggs with sourdough toast and honey. Really happy I stopped here to eat as it's hard to find clean meals and good service.

Fast and friendly service, reasonable priced food, and clean building. I got the biscuits and gravy with home fries and grits. The home fries were not bad they just weren’t what I was expecting of home fries, felt more skillet potatoes to me.

The food selection is good. Lots to choose from. The staff was friendly and took care of our drinks and needs. It’s a nice size dining room. Has that old time Diner and Cafe feel. I had breakfast with my family. I had the Country Skillet- Chicken Fried Steak, Scrambled Eggs, and Home Fries topped with Gravy and two biscuits. My daughter had The Trash Can Omelet - Combine the Meat Lovers - Bacon, Ham, Sausage and the Veggie - Bell Peppers, Onions, Mushrooms, Black Olives and Tomatoes with Cheese and Jalapeños. Side of Salsa and Sour Cream and Grits My Middle Grandson had The Strawberry Pancakes Combo - served with one Egg, two Sausage Links, and 2 Strawberry Pancakes. My youngest Grandson had the Pancakes Combo - served with one Egg, one Sausage, and 2 Pancakes. All the food was served fresh and hot. We also had coffee that was good. I’ll have to come back and try more of their menu. It seemed a little on the expensive side. But it was really good.

I really like the atmosphere here. Prices are good especially their specials. The 4 star is because this last time our meat on both meals was overcooked. We still ate it as we were hungry but told them as we left. It was the only time we ever have had an issue. Sometimes things happen. We will go back.

Good home cooked food. Solid 7 out of 10. It's not fancy, but it is tasty. Do you want those dishes like Grandma used to make? Come to Papa's Cafe. Plus, who can say no to all you can eat catfish? We will be back.

Service was pretty good. Went on a slow night. Spaghetti looked great. But I had the nachos. Not a fan. The chips were just, well, not good. Glad to have taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and a decent amount of cheese. Leave off the olives next time. Oh and it was missing sour cream, which I don't think is part of it, but should be. Or maybe jalapenos? Salsa? Guacamole? Anyhow. Just my opinion. I think everyone else in my group liked their food.

Good service, usually quick service also. The food is a bit inconsistent, but overall it's good. The table layout makes things seem a bit chaotic when you walk in, and be prepared to share a big table if they are busy! Waitstaff is competent and friendly without hovering. Papas cafe is a good spot for a home cooked breakfast and also seems to be a favored place to sit and drink coffee and gab by the regulars.

Warm and cozy.....diner like experience. A little confused when we walked in....the people behind us as well. It's 'seat yourself'. We had to ask 😏 The food was good. Super large plate size pancakes. My BF is doing a self challenge to see if he can eat a stack in 10 minutes....he cleared his plate in 5 mins 30 secs. The menus had different prices and our check had some discrepancies. Easy fix. Pretty good food, this is the country fried steak skillet. The waitress was nice, but there was a huge problem with the order. One of our five meals had someone's hair in it. Then upon looking into the kitchen we noticed the guy was wearing a hat with his ponytail out! No hairnet was being used, this could explain why we found hair in our food. But the waitress promptly took it back for a remake. She was very tentative and made sure all of us enjoyed our time out. Her customer service is the reason this only lost a star.

The ladies there are great. The food is ok. No bells. Mostly retirees. Wish more families would come. I wish they had more pie options. Wish the cooks were all on the same page. I’ve been a few times and enjoy it but you just never know what you’re gonna get with regards to the cooks.

My husband I have property in mena. We stopped in for dinner. He ordered chile rellano and I ordered enchiladas the chick was well seasoned and not just boiled chicken rolled in tortilla. The food was good. The salsa could have been better. The only thing I would suggest is getting a tortilla machine for fresh flour tortillas. That would be a game changer. The service was great everyone was so friendly.

Stopped in for dinner the other night, I was excited to try Rosslers BBQ brisket sandwich collab with Papas Cafe. The sandwich its self was fantastic and I expect nothing less from Rosslers, even with the lean it was great, paired with Rosslers own house BBQ sauce it was fantastic. Papas cafes onion rings were also surprisingly great. I took a tour of their extensive menu and got some of their catfish. Which was pretty good however $10 for 5pcs of catfish with no sides left me wanting. Their French toast breakfast sampler was an absolute delight and their French toast was definitely worth eating, so so good! However it comes with this cheap frozen grocery store sausage that was rather dissatisfying. The side salad was simple yet impressed me with its creamy ranch dressing which had a hint of freshness to it that kept me going. I was not excited about the $15 price tag for the Reuben sandwich which is little more than the size of a grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with canned corned beef hash. Not the kind of Reuben most people expect to be eating. The grits were run of the mill, unseasoned and uninteresting Definitely enjoyed their apple pie as the it’s served warm and the apples are perfectly cooked. Overall our experience was pleasant, our waitress didn’t seem to be having the greatest night and the prices seemed really expensive for a middle of the road diner. I likely won’t be back, not that I had a negative experience but only I could have a similar experience right down the road for a much fairer price.

The place was very active with 1 table left open once we sat down. Ordered the breakfast skillet pictured below with 2 biscuits not pictured. Our server was courteous and kind, checked in with us and refilled our drinks. The skillet was good. Love the concept of having chopped chicken fried steak on top. My only issue would be with lack of seasoning but I would rather under than over (as you can't take it back.) Will be returning.

So it seems everyone in Harker Heights likes to eat here, so expect a bit of a wait. I will say that the atmosphere is pleasant and the place is clean considering the volume of patrons coming in and out. I ordered the pancake special with two eggs cooked sunny side up. Normally the pancake special comes with one egg and a side of bacon or sausage. I asked to sub the meat for a second egg and they were fine with that. No hesitation and they didn’t charge me extra to do so. I also ordered a side of hash browns and asked them to cook it with onions and tomatoes. I was feeling reminiscent of the time I had the hash browns in Deridder, LA and wanted to “recreate the flavor” so to speak. Let me tell you, the freaking hash browns were better at Papa’s cafe than they were in Louisiana!! 😲the one dish I wish was better were the pancakes. The pancakes taste good, they were just a bit tough and rubbery. Most likely due to over mixing the batter or beating the batter. The service was so pleasant and they gave us bottomless beverages. I will definitely be a regular here. They would have got five stars but the pancakes should been better and the wait was a bit long. Btw, I didn’t order any biscuits but I saw they make their own biscuits fresh. Definitely trying that next time.

The food was average (nothing to write home about). Laid back atmosphere. Our server Angie was friendly and accommodating. Can't say the same for the hostess/greeter (Tonya?) She had a negative attitude and we felt unwelcome. Angie saved the day with her kindness and courtesy. Doubt if we'll be returning though.

It's a mom and pop diner. The servers were great! They automatically add credit card usage to the bill, and you have to ask for it to be removed if you pay in cash. 14 bucks for a pretty flavorless burger plus another 3 for unseasoned tots is pretty crazy. But I guess they are more worried about the older crowd of folks by not seasoning anything. All in all, it was ok.

Food was Ok. My burger was dropped but they fixed up a new one while the rest of my family ate. They charge $4 something for a fountain drink and pretty must nickel and dime you on the burger fixings. Family of four for lunch turned out to be an $81 bill. We would have just went to Texas Roadhouse or BWW’s for that kind of money. Probably won’t be coming back.

Went there with my wife after church. The service was great. It was the food. I got the Chicken fried steak. Not great. Really small, plus a very small portion of fries. The green beans were good. And the Iced tea was good. But not worth the $14. It's to bad. 1st time trying this place.

The food was very good, fresh made to order~My compliments to the cooks! What needs work is customer service/wait staff's attitudes (not all of them) but the one serving us on Saturday. She said she had a wealth of customer service/waiter & management in different demographics but it did not show at all! Also menu's are tattered and worn and could use an upgrade instead of a printed piece of paper with the daily specials the waitresses can deliver that info so we're not given a piece of paper that has stains all over it.

It's ok. Large pancake for $5.99 not bad. What turned us off of it, was the fact that we had said we were ready and about to give our order when the waitress just abruptly left and tended to a table behind us. Um like we were ready to give our order. My husband bought the pancake combo. He ordered it with one egg and sausage. The lady was very rude and was not paying attention to what we were saying. The egg that came out was "sunny side up" but it definitely wasn't made well. I ordered the veggie omelette. It came with black olives so I had her replace it with jalapeños as black olives are gross. While I understand I would get charged for it, I still think if you omit an ingredient you should not get charged for it. For example, I also declined the toast. Toast is likely more expensive than jalapeños, they could have not charged me for the jalapeños.

Food was generic. Same thing you get at Denny’s or IHOP. Service was really good. Clean restaurant overall.

Haven't tried this restaurant yet.....so I gave everything 3 stars. Probably pretty decent food....but the problem with eating out at ANY restaurant today is the prices. I understand the overhead and insurance costs are high, not to mention the pay for the help. At some point these issues just become overbearing for the consumer.....and it's no longer affordable to eat out all the time. Not much a restaurant owner can do about the prices.....all he can control is the quality of the food, the atmosphere, the cleanliness.....that sort of stuff. I'll stop in and give it whirl, but still hafta watch my wallet....if you get my drift.

The pancakes here are very good! It's a nice little mom and pop place and it's always very busy. I don't mind it, it makes it feel like the neighborhood spot! HOWEVER... ⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ They charge an Admissions Fee. Like you pay a fee to come in and eat on top of paying for your food and tipping. Craziest thing I've ever seen. I got an orange juice, two pancakes, and "Spanish Skillet" for $28.00 It was crazy. The skillet was the size of ping pong paddle. Very disappointing.

I had to ask twice for my table to be wiped down from people before me. Got the catfish special, asked twice for tarter sauce which should have came with it. Server asked if I wanted a drink refill I said yes, 12 minutes later still waiting. (They weren't that busy)Asked a different server got a refill. I have been going there occasionally for years. The last few times I have been there the had went DOWN HILL.. I probably WON'T be back. I try to do the independent/ mom and pop places. But after tonight I WON'T BE BACK.

Small portions, food was hot. The Ruben sandwich had a flavor i was not familiar with. We did enjoy the quiet atmosphere. A bit pricey for the portion we received.

Had two hairs in my food. Didn't complain, still paid, and left a good tip, but I probably won't be coming back. First time here in my 30 years in the area. It's a shame this was my first and only experience. Until I got to the hairs, the food was good. Got a peek behind the counter on the way back from the restroom. Very messy and disorganized for food preparation.

Had an interesting meal at Papa’s today. The food itself was pretty solid. CFS, mashed potatoes and corn. The steak was solid, but the batter didn’t stick. Mashed potatoes had good flavor but would have been a little bigger portion. Corn had a strange aftertaste (like maybe frozen?). What threw everything off really was the staff/ kitchen. I’m not sure if they were short handed or had a new cook. But, at least three times I witnessed some type of miscommunication/ issue. One person didn’t get Parmesan cheese because the sever wasn’t told that it was out. Another issues was a big discussion on which customer ordered a Philly- no one seemed to know where to deliver it or if it should even have been made. Finally another customer’s order wasn’t rang in correctly, resulting in them initially being undercharged. While the servers were definitely friendly, there was very noticeable tension. Truly hope that this is just a bad day, because it’s hard to find good food in this town. I will return and see if it’s better before passing final judgement.

Came here for Sunday brunch. Sign says you have to go to checkout counter to be seated. A bit different, but I did. The young lady offered a table that was about to be cleaned. My family and I sat down and were greated by a waitress. Took our drink order and left. Came back with drinks and took our food order. Then, we waited. She came back approximately 40 mins later and dropped off condiments at the table. Asked if we need a coffee refill, answered yes. Came back 10 mins later with a pot of coffee. The restaurant was full. People that had been there before us, were just getting their food after we'd been waiting about 40 mins. At about the 70 min mark I was ready to go. Our food eventually did come. Then the server said there was no silverware because the dishwasher had not done the dishes yet. She offered plastic ware, which we accepted. Overall it was 2 stars. This restaurant may have been the go to several years ago, but not that great for service today. While I understand it's a struggle to keep staff or hire competent people. This review is just my experience. I'll come back again to see if it has improved. On a side note. Food was good. Clean store and atmosphere was inviting. I hope I have a better experience next time I visit.

Service was not bad. We got our coffee promptly. Food came out quickly. The biggest problem with service was staff standing around while tables needed cleaned off and the floor swept. Also the wife's coffee was filled to the brim. While not a big issue, still could have burnt the wrong person. The food was very bland. I had the country skillet and my wife had the Spanish skillet. Both came out on very hot skillets (too hot to touch, the waitress even burnt herself on one) but the food was cold. The coffee was very watery and not strong at all. My wife's toast was burnt and slathered with a bunch of butter. Hot sauce, jelly, all that comes in little cups they fill themselves. Overall not impressed. Willing to try again but improvements need to be made.

We used to like the place when we first moved here, but the last few times we have gone, the food has been just ok, but the service has been increasingly terrible. We sat for a while before our order was taken today and it wasn't busy. Maybe five tables filled in the place. We had to hunt someone down to get a straw, drinks weren't refilled, and I never got the check. I went up to the counter to pay my bill, and despite three waitresses (one of them was ours) being there, not one acknowledged me, and I had been standing there for some time. Finally had to ask if someone was willing to take my money. I spent $40 on breakfast this morning, and you would think with an IHOP, Whataburger, Chickfila, Cracker Barrel, Bite the Bagel, and Black Bear Diner all being within two miles of the place, they might want to actually provide some service as an incentive for customers to return. We won't be back.

My wife and I went to the restaurant for the first time. I was excited about the catfish when I received my order the catfish was not fresh it seemed like it was frozen food. The French fries were frozen french fries. We will not be returning to this restaurant the food was not anything that we expected.

The Server was okay but Paying $18.00 for a two Egg Ham Breakfast was WAY TO HIGH. There was just me and my Friend that Ate There and both Plates was Like $37 which we could have gone to Denny's or IHOP and eating LESS then that. I will NEVER RETURN THERE EVER AGAIN.

Came here for breakfast.. Left disappointed! Eggs were pretty good. Waffle was hard, crispy, and dry. Waffle alone was $8. Grits was lumpy and powdery. Pancake was just a pancake… All in all food was just food and quite expensive. $43 bucks for the food you see in pictures. Included coffee and tea..

I have been dining here on/off for the past 2.5 years - I like the low key atmosphere and the home style cooking, which is just average, it is the service that really pisses me off. The wait staff has their "favorite" customers, understandably, but you shouldn't ignore your other customers. Today I stopped in for soup and a sandwich, they were not that busy, most customers already had their food or were finished eating. It took 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge I was even there, she brought me a menu, then my drink, took my order, returned shortly with a cup of soup and some crackers and then I waited....waited....waited for another 20 minutes and still no sandwich!! I finally decided to leave. I have a 1 hour lunch break and spent 35 minutes mostly waiting. I have decided to NOT return here. Sadly, their other location is nearly as bad. Hire BETTER staff!!

My husband and I took a break to get some brunch. We sat down and were quickly asked for drink orders - water and coffee. Water and coffee came and we were told our waitress would be over to get our order. Waited 20 minutes and the waitress walked past us checking on other customers and refilling their coffee. She then took an order from people she obviously knew who had just walked in. We left at that point. I left $2.25 on the table for the 1 cup of coffee my husband had which is way more than I felt was truly necessary. We won’t be back.

Took the family out for breakfast, and my son pulled hair out of his burger, while the Mrs. had hair on top of her food. The waitress was understanding and comped the receipt. Management should ensure that proper grooming standards are upheld and food is checked before being served.

It seems like when the owner is there you get 5 star service and I say that because last Saturday my husband and I went there for breakfast and we waited a few minutes and another family came in and was seated right away. My husband decided to leave and the owner saw this and had one of his staff came and get us. We decided to give it a shot. The owner talked to us and apologized and even gave us a discount, so we decided to go this morning. Big mistake! We waited for over 20 minutes for our food , it wasn’t the complete order and the food wasn’t even hot. Fast forward to payment.. my husband handed the clerk his card and she sat his card on the register. My husband commented that was rude. She didn’t respond. The cashier was occupied with some type of paperwork and ignored the fact the receipt had printed and he was standing in front of her. He waited maybe 30 seconds for his receipt. Out of frustration with the poor service, he reached over and got the receipt himself. I called to complain and spoke with Jordan. I asked for the contact information for the owner. She said she wasn’t allowed to give that out. I understand that. I then asked when would he would be available. She said she didn’t know. I overheard her telling someone what I needed and then she hung up. I called back and told her it was rude of her to hang up in my face and she told me that her manager instructed her to hang up. When is it acceptable to ever hang up in a customer’s face? Piss poor service. It will be a long time, if ever, before we come back here if.

The breakfast we had at this restaurant was not good. I had the cinnamon roll French toast breakfast and the cinnamon rolls were very bitter. The one egg and sausage were fine (can’t mess that up). My husband had their breakfast skillet and it was overcooked. The restaurant itself appeared to be clean and the service was good enough. This place was very expensive for breakfast and I will never go back.

I think I won't come back. We waited more than an hour for the food, plus an hour for a table. The service was poor. Waiting an hour for an order of fries and a steak and egg place is too much.

First time going and the very last time at that! I ordered a veggie omelette for $10.99 I didn’t know it would be double priced after waitress gave me the ticket waitress didn’t tell me there upcharge … they charge for every type of vegetable $0.99 needless to say I’m not going back

First time here… ordered breakfast I ordered 1 Egg over medium French toast and sausage. I received thick toast no flavor no sugar egg was over cooked like rubber sausage tasted foul and then I ordered a piece of cheese cake and it was hard and tasted very old. So I will not be coming back it’s a shame really I love cafe style food. The staff was very kind but you’re paying for food that isn’t any good.. need to do better!

Overpriced, Underwhelming, and Poorly Managed- One star is generous. We waited 25 minutes for food with only two other tables seated—completely unacceptable. When it finally showed up, my omelette was overcooked and insanely overpriced. You can find better food, better prices, and better service anywhere else nearby. I really try to support local mom-and-pop spots, but this place doesn’t deserve it. Worst of all, the owner sat at his computer in plain sight the entire time, doing nothing while the staff struggled. Unprofessional and disappointing from top to bottom.

Papa’s Cafe was a huge letdown. Despite having five servers, the service was painfully slow—probably because there was only one cook in the kitchen. It took forever to get our food, and when it finally arrived, it was barely warm and tasted bland and overcooked. To make things worse, the prices were way too high for the quality we got. Not worth the wait or the money. Definitely won’t be coming back.

This plain Jane sandwich that literally anyone could make at home on junk bread was $10. With no sides. Gross thick turkey absolutely drowning in mayo. Order look way too long for what this is.

This last weekend we were at Riverbend Baseball Park in Waco, Texas. My wife ordered a corn dog and they gave it to her in tenfold and when she got back to the diamond where our game was getting ready to start she opened the tenfold and the corn dog was partially burnt at the top. To make matters even worse it was cold and as it had been sitting forever. For $10 dollars you would expect a well cooked corn dog not partially burnt and cold. Definitely recommend if you buy one in the future make sure they give it to you unwrapped and you watch it come out of the fryer. Highly disappointed.

Terrible service. Very unfriendly atmosphere. After being seated our waitress literally ignored us, avoiding our table the whole time. After 20 minutes she seated someone else and immediately took their order. Still, not a single word to us. It felt really awkward so I left money for the coffee that the hostess initially brought (no refills the whole time), and told her we would not be staying to eat. So unless they know you personally, don’t bother going. Maybe it is a home-cooked meal, but I never got the chance to find out.

Worst service ever! Our waitress Tanya or Tania ..the worst waitress..took an hour to get to our table - asked for our drinks and we ordered coffee with creamer. She showed up with cups of coffee with spoon inside, no creamer. Took another 30mins to show up with basket with used sugar packets and creamer. She took our order (scribbling on her notepad). Came back not even 10mins to re-confirmed what we order which was completely wrong. I ordered San Antonio skillet and waffle, my husband ordered Trash can omelette. We sat there and watched 3 families who was seated after( 2 of those families are group of 4)..got their food and we’re still waiting. We waived our waitress down to ask about our order and with an attitude she said “it’s coming”. About 10mins later she showed up with one waffle. I’ve had it and went to pay for our cold coffee which a nice waitress Beth said it’s ok we didn’t have to pay..we left! Our first and last time here! Worst service! Filthy and dirty!

Food is sub par. My pancakes were not cooked through, the cheese in my omelet was not melted fully, the food was cold, the blueberry compote comes cold, the syrup is cold. Everything needs more seasoning. Overall, extremely disappointed and will not be returning

I came to this restaurant because I was in the area and all I got was a plate full of grease. The waitress told me that’s how he normally does it then I look up the person who is cooking with no gloves by the way, grabbing hot fries with his bare hand, and then wiping his hands on his shirt I will never eat here again totally disgusting for the sake of an argument. I just threw the food away and walked out. Do not eat here.

One Star — Very Disappointing Experience Visited around 8:30am on Feb 9th and the food and service were both below expectations. The atmosphere started off welcoming. We got greeted and told Waiter will be with us soon. Interior had some upgrade so I knew the food was about be good too.The pancakes came out huge which they stated very flat with no texture. I order a veggie omelet, easy on bell pepper and onions add spinach was also very thin and did not match the menu description, which were 3 eggs , mines appear like egg whites instead.no fluff just thin and flat When we respectfully mentioned the issues, the waiter which was male didn’t get the name or remember , appeared irritated and told the manager he was not going back to our table, which felt unprofessional and dismissive. As customers, we were calm and respectful while explaining our concerns. The manager offered to waive the bill, but we still paid and left around 9:15am. Overall, poor food quality and uncomfortable service. I would not return based on this experience.

Terrible food & terrible service. Avoid this place at all cost! Manager went & checked on everyone’s table; except mine. Long wait for food with no explanation or apology. 2 Eggs took an entire napkin to soak up all the excess oil & liquid on the plate. Food overall tasted terrible. How do you mess up breakfast? Tried to reach out on Facebook messenger & they blocked me.. Extremely poor customer service. Needless to say. My 1st & last visit;

I called in my order at 3:42pm on today. I was told I had to pay over the phone to guarantee my order would be ready upon pickup. I gladly gave my card info and was informed 10-15 mins for pick up. I’m still waiting on my order and it is now 4:27pm. I asked a server how much longer and she said 5 more minutes. #Disgusted
