Food was good and the service was polite and professional. Food was served quick and hot.
Such delicious food..love the courtesy oatmeal appetizers..and it's reasonable prices very filling
The food is awesome and the waitress are friendly very good serves we got
Daily specials! That include drinks Very economical pricing for food nowadays .. And the quality of food and service!
Excellent food and more than you can eat. And very reasonably priced.
Excellent restaurants. Generous servings, very reasonable prices. The best, crunchy chips!
Friendly people and delicious food! We have breakfast here several times a week. 😊
Great coffee. I especially liked that the food I ordered was not spicy hot.
Delicious..I finally found a place that makes the beans like my precious grandma Felice used to make ❤😋
Had breakfast and it was delicious and the tortillas are fresh and big.
Food was great and service was great too! My breakfast was lovely :)
Excellent authentic Mexican foods. Even the tortilla chips are better than normal. Try their breakfast items and lunch combo. Everything tastes original and made from scratch.
The breakfast is delicious! You get a complimentary cup of oatmeal before your meal. The wait staff is amazing!
Great food, cute atmosphere, love the freshly made tortillas, good coffee, free refills. I definitely recommend this place.
Food was delicious! Definitely would come back again 🩵
Since I don't eat meat and try to be as Vegan as possible the only option was the papas a la Mex taco with beans. It's a huge taco for me and it was not expensive but delicious. 🤤
One of those hidden away places where the food is well served and very reasonably priced good Mexican food breakfast and lunch haven't had their dinner but I'm sure it's just as good LOL
The food here is really good. The price is on point. The staff is attentive and friendly. Highly recommend it!!
Great place to go eat some Mexican food at a very reasonable price, offers several daily specials
Forgot what real Mexican food tasted like till i had their breakfast. Super Great!
Excellent food and environment. Great waiters too. Nicely priced as well
Always come out of El Sombrero full and happy with what i ate. The people are freindly and always with a smile on their faces. Very nice place to eat.
Old school feel of Tex Mex. Great service and food was amazing. Tortillas large enough to fill a plate. 😜
Always come out really satisfied, good food and good service. Will continue coming. Makes you feel like at home.
Great Mexican food and the service is impeccable. Highly recommend it.
Great service, great food, great prices, great environment!! Ask for Betty, she's such an awesome waitress!
Love this place. We are from Oregon visiting Harlingen and stopped in for lunch. I’m glad we did what excellent Mexican food. Now since we are from the NW and good Mexican food is hard to find we may be biased but we keep going back to try a different dish and we have not been disappointed. Great flavor in their refried beans I want the recipe. Restaurant and bathrooms very clean too. We have had excellent service too. Eat there.
It's so good.
Our server Beatriz is always nice and welcoming. Food is usually great and the price is actually affordable. All around nice little place.
Sweet tea just right. Ordered grilled chicken breast with rice, beans, and salad very delicious. Soup is awesome. Would come back again to try breakfast.
Good food low prices the waiters was good . Will be back .
It was our first time. Delicious food, excellent customer service and the prices are reasonable. Will definitely return.
Food was great!!!! People were friendly. Very attentive. Prices were good. The whole restaurant was very comfy and relaxing.
Great place great food and really great service and affordable,With good portions.and very clean.
Their caldo de res is delicious, it was served w large flour tortillas that also tasted great. They also have the option of corn tortillas. They have breakfast specials written on their boards. They served us oatmeal that was included with our meals. There was no parking available in close by so we parked down the road. The walk was nice because the area is covered with art.
Amazing food, good prices and great atmosphere 👌!!!!
Service was fast and the enchiladas with Rice and beans were delicious! 1st time eating at this place and I wish I had gone sooner. The fresh squeezed lemonade delicious too. And the prices were fair. It was a little warm inside though but, I'll still go back .
It was my 1st time here. The food is SO good & I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was. I just wish it was open til later in the day. The restaurant was clean & the staff was really nice! Definitely coming back!
This place was recommended by my aunt. We stopped by for lunch. The place was nice and clean. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Prices were definitely reasonable. I had a plate with 2 enchiladas, 1 taco, and 1 chalupa. My aunt had enchiladas with carne guisada. When we first sat down, they brought us a small bowl of soup and chips with salsa. The soup had a good taste, and the salsa was warm and not really spicy. It wasn't all that busy when we went, so everything came out pretty fast. I definitely plan on coming back.
I loved the restaurant as soon as I picked a seat they brought me a cup of good coffee and a bowl of oatmeal. I ordered the chorizo and egg taco which was great and they put a little bit of homemade refried beans on the plate. I got the beans and oatmeal free. Actually everyone was getting oatmeal free. The total bill was $3.65 and I was full.
Place is good in price and food, only reason why I didn't mark it 5 stars is their service is slow.
The food is tasty and inexpensive. The service is very friendly.
Food was good service good, too. Friendly place to say down and enjoy your meal
The food is very good. Decent price. Sundays can get busy, expect to wait for your food.
This is my second visit but my parents frequented it for many years and they like this place, I'm satisfy with the food and service.
Great environment, friendly staff, great food options. Awesome customer service...but food was a little too salty.
Great service, good size tacos. I don't recommend the tea tastes like they use tap water.. sorry
I have only eaten the breakfast tacos but by what I can tell they have really good customer service and I enjoy the taco and atmosphere.
Very good food, the cooks know how to make Latin American food. Good service as well, the only reason I took a star off was because the water and the lemonade tasted like unfiltered tap water you can still taste the clorox in it and that's unsafe. hopefully they will do something about that.
Just want clean, good Mexican food without the grease? This is it. Rustic restaurant down town, pleasant servers, tv just right, complimentary oatmeal with all the fixings at breakfast. Go there often.
I ordered the fajita panchos and the meat was over cooked and very little seasoning. The dish was subpar. I still ate it as I was very hungry. My sister ordered a potato and egg taco and niece ordered cheese enchiladas. Their food looked delicious. They didn't have any complaints.
Friendly service. Nice portions and menu selections. Prices are very reasonable. Majority of menu selections are Mexican food but if you're in the mood for a burger, you can have one. We ordered ice tea which came in a huge glass but if you want to take your ice tea with you upon leaving, there's a 50 cent charge for a To Go cup.
Food was delicious. Always enjoy eating here. Only thing is I had a hard time getting the attention of the waitress to get a refill on my drink. I was just about done with my food when I finally waived her down.
Really liked this place. We were sat down quickly and asked for our beverage requests. After returning with our drinks the waitress let us know that they were short-staffed 4 people. She took our orders promptly and returned with chips and salsa. Food took a little while, (almost 30 minutes) but it was worth the wait. It was also almost noon time, so I give them credit for being short-staffed and at 85-90% capacity. I believe out of 20 tables there were about 4-5 tables available. Food was hot and tasty. We ordered Mexican style breakfasts and eggs were great whether they were scrambled or over easy. Not overcooked or bland. Tortillas de harina we're perfect! Perfect size, not burned, not plasticky, not tough, not thick, not raw. They were very airy, hot 🔥 and big! Chips could have been a little bit better, they seemed slightly stale, but still ok. Salsa for the chips was good, and salsa for huevos rancheros could use a little less water, in my humble opinion. Lemonade 🍋 I believe was agua fresca; didn't taste like minute maid or syrup, didn't ask because waitress was busy, busy. the kids also appreciated that they got extra large cups for their lemonade, maybe 36oz cups. So happy that we tried this place. We will definitely be returning.
They have good food 😊 and good service and prices.
Food has good taste well cooked comes with drink with special plates.
It's ok the food and service but building needs a little update paint! Good prices!
Food was average. Waitress was unattentve and confused. Ask for our bill waited another 15 min to get it . Won't be returning.
First time eating here as I was invited for lunch. Loved at how close it was to work but I can't say the same about the dish I got which happened to be a special. By no means am I trying to bash this place just giving my honest review 1. The restaurant wasn't that packed and it took quite a while to get our order 2. my dish which was Carne guisada just had no flavor whatsoever taste was so bland. I was hungry so I ate it. Flour tortillas were warm but kind of got hard when they got cold. I don't think I'll be coming back again
Long, long, long, long, long wait times on the 3 visits, good food, good prices, so close to where I work, last visit just couldn’t take it, had to get up and leave. So disappointing. (Wait time is about 45min-1 hour easy, on slow or busy days)
This place desperately needs a bus boy, I think it is very unsanitary for the waitresses to pock up dirty cups and plates and serve clean plates and beverages to patrons. Health department would not be happy to know this is going on. The food is good but service is slow due to not having busboys
Service was not fast enough and they could not keep it straight. Hot sauce was ok. Corn tortillas not the best. Low rating, and they earned it.
1st time here. We had great service. Got a chorizo and beans taco, very tasty till I get half way and there floss included (strand of hair) ugh that was gross.
Amazing food, but this particular time. I ordered the special for the day Tacos Nortenos and I found a rock or a piece of iron from the grill in my taco. My server had to be called over Everytime I needed something. She was not attentive. Than after I found that piece of whatever it was in my food. I had another server stare me down. As if to intimidate me. That was not professional. She continued to do so as if something was my fault. I think only her and my server need redirection on customer service. All the other servers I've had, never gave me attitude that way. I felt disrespected and upset.
Update: I would call this restaurant a disappointment. Service has become terrible. Expect up to an hour wait for a waitress. This is even on slow days. Cook is always in a bad mood and it shows in the food.
Food specials taste like old food
The food was horrible no taste burnt tortillas a they had the decency to still charge me the drink which was not good either
They don't serve breakfast all day and I didn't drink from my drink but still had to pay for it inconvenient
Went in sat there with my daughter and husband and ladies just ignored us and were serving everyone else coming in. So we left, good food but waitresses should at least greet u, hate restaurants with no customer service. At least act Happy
My family were made to waited more than half an hour for a waitress. They were too busy loudly complaining about wanting to leave early and who was going to serve us. When the food arrived, the waitress had a smile that looked as if our meals had been spit on by the cook. They then proceeded to close up the restaurant while laughing at how happy they will be to see the remaining customers leave. All this was brought up with the owner's daughter who was glued to her cell phone. She responded with laughter and proudly stated "Yeah the waitresses are bad here." All I can say is eat at this restaurant only if you enjoy bad service and terrible tasting food at a high price.
Never again will I go. The ac barely blows any air. We waited over an hour for food on a Sunday. When they brought out the food, it was one plate at a time. They need to hire more cooks and turn the AC on.
I had the special. Carne asada rice beans and two enchiladas with the sweet tea. There was nothing special about it I didn't like the food at all the tea was the only thing that I liked and my waitress didn't even come to see if I needed another drink so my mom ended up giving me some of hers
This place is a joke. The menudo was reused soup. I guess they ran out of the meat and boiled more tripea and threw it in there. When it got to my table, it stunk and the tripe was white. Clearly if u know cooking the tripe changes to a golden color when it is done. This one was super white and it stunk like when u start boiling tripe. Oh and the beans had a burnt smell like someone forgot about them and the bottom of pan burnt.
When they first started out they were good but lately the service is lacking. My parents went in there and were waiting almost an hour to be acknowledged. My fiance(who is white) and i went in and it was the same. We went during breakfast time almost into lunch and it seemed as though the cook was mad we ordered lunch menu so early and my food which isnt normally spicy (sombrero plate)was full of jalapenos. The fajitas were too spicy and made me sick after. If you are Hispanic and married to a white i wouldn't give them patronage.
Decided to go eat breakfast during market days. We liked the environment waitress was friendly. As we get our food and start eating we had a little guest join our table. I quickly got napkins to grab it but he was like speedy gonzales. The waitress approaches and asked if everything is ok. We told her and we were still looking for our little friend and found it crawling by my wife's plate and the waitress grabbed it and just said i am sorry. Needless to say breakfast didnt taste the same. We paid and left. I could only imagine where it came from the kitchen, the table, or who knows. Food was ok but after that it wasn't that great.
Horrible experience we got there with my children and we waited over 10 minutes just to get a waitress to our table, they were basically arguing over who was going to attend us (none of them wanted to attend us) When the waitress finally got to our table she was very frustrated and in a bad mood. I guess they were already wanting to go home for the day, even though we got there 30 minutes before close.
Takes too long and don’t acknowledge you when you walk in. Waited 10 minutes for a waitress and 15 more minutes to take my order after my drinks were given. Would not recommend. There’s not even public restrooms. Still currently waiting…….
I went in with my husband and kids , we were not greeted , everyone was just staring at us. Second they had no Chile what’s so ever like what Mexican restaurant has no type of Chile . The chips and salsa were not good at all . I won’t be coming back again .
Food was was nasty, service was Horrible, and no they weren't all busy, waitresses were rude and took 10 minutes to get out coffee. Servicio muy Malo se tardaron tanto Para darnos El Cafe que parecia de calcetin ya ni pedi Mas. Nunca mas... COFFEE LOVERS STAY AWAY THEIR COFFEE ITS NASTY.
Super long wait for food. Took an hour and fifteen minutes to get it. Was cold when finally got there. The weines en salsa were extra cooked and died. The bacon was hard, overcooked and cold. The third order of tacos had cold, tasteless meat. Personally will never go again. I would understand if it was packed but several customers came after us and left and we were still there waiting. Very disappointed.
The reason I'm giving it a low rating in service is because if you ask for extra crackers they charge you extra, if you want to take your tea they'll charge you for the styrofoam cup depending on size, if you can't to take leftover food home they'll charge you for the carryout plate their food was ok atmosphere was ok too. The refrigerator by the counter was leaking. If a person in a wheelchair or using a walker not enough space between the counter and refrigerator to help them get to the bathroom
We had the worst server I have even come in contact with . Norma was really rude and and talked in English and forgot to put our order in and when we asked about it , she pretended not to know English . The others girls there were working hard as she slacked off . Super disappointed that we weren’t blessed with one of the other girls that actually likes her job .
DO NOT recommend El Sombrero!! Our 1st visit!! My plate was brought out first and husbands plate after 15 minutes!!! Our 2nd visit We ordered Asado de puerco, rice, beans and other foods on the menu!!! Food was super cold!! We told the waitress and they were gonna reheat the food and brought back the same!!! Waitresses were attentive!! It’s the cooks!! I won’t even give them a half star!!! Will not go back again!!!! Cominda pésima!!!!!
There a new girl not Mari or Norma and she looks like she mad when taking the orders. She wears an air pod and Apple Watch and constantly looking at her watch. Didnt’t even bother to come check on us and just left food and left. Very unprofessional. Another thing that there one person at cashier and while she has to take orders we need to wait to be charged and there a line waiting to pay.
Very poor service. Very surprised I thought this would be our Sunday go to I was wrong.
Bad quality of the food order that I got. There was so much fat in the barbacoa plate, reasons why people are getting fat nowadays. I only enjoyed the beans and potatoes. The customer service was decently okay. As for food portions, it was too much barbacoa than the beans, y'all should at least ask y'all's customers how much food they want.
Incredibly disappointed with the service. We placed an order and completely dismissed my order when I picked it up and and got home the order was wrong and when we called the 2nd lady who originally took my order again dismissed what I was telling her and made it sound like it was my fault it even happened. They didn't offer to make it right or a refund. We've been eating there for years with no complaints until now. Plenty of new Mexican restaurants opening close by that will appreciate our support.
This place sucks. Literally taste the grease going down your throat.i guess everyone in the table should share and go half on 2 tortillas...I finished my tea in the 56 minute wait. The plate itself is bigger then the portion of food given to you. Asked for salsa and they brought back watered down tomato soup.....what's the hype about this place...Do Better!!
