The Arroyo is genuinely one of my favorite drinks in LA. The lavender syrup is truly the best damn lavender syrup I’ve ever had. The interior is amazing at their original location here in Highland Park, with a really cute patio as well in the back. It’s significantly busier than their DTLA location but this location really puts it all together very well. There are plenty of tables that are good for chatting or studying, although whether they are available is a lot more hit or miss than in DTLA.
what an unforgettable coffee shop in Highland Park! iced vanilla latte and matcha latte both with oat milk tasted amazing. great atmosphere inside and the handsome barista James provided exceptional service and hospitality. can’t wait to be back at Civil Coffee and try other drinks and pastries next time!
The food was delicious!! Wouldn’t have expected it from a coffee shop, but one of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to in a while. What really won me over was that the chilaquiles were actually spicy🌶️!! Coffee was solid I got the vanilla latte (good amount of coffee flavor, the vanilla didn’t mask it). Edit: second time I went chilaquiles were not spicy 🥲
Great place Great ambient Nice decor Great food and coffee Very delicious. Must visit. Outdoor patio
The Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was as good as I hoped it would be! Every bite was heaven! Twice-baked chocolate croissant filled with hazelnut praline cream & topped with toasted almonds, powdered sugar and dark chocolate. My husband ordered the Figueroa coffee & he keeps saying that it was the best coffee!!!! Parking available in the back. Restroom available for customers. Plenty of shaded seating outside too. Overall a perfectly pleasant experience.
One of the best Kougn aman I've ever had. Came for the coffee but the baked goods were the real star of this spot. There is a parking lot in the back that's only $0.50 per hour and if you're lucky you can find some street parking. There are a good number of seats and a really nice interior and ambiance but it was completely full and we stopped by on a Saturday morning. There's also a patio in the back with some covered seating if the weather is nice. Services great and they have some signature coffee drinks that looks interesting and unique. We opted for the seasonal pumpkin spice latte and espressotonic. Drinks were a little sweeter than I would have liked but were great.
A very popular coffee shop in the area with long line! Ordered an espresso and an apple crumble pastry, both are very good. The setting is more up-scale and fancy yet very comfortable to hang out. Will definitely come back again!
Coffee is delectable. Service is great. Vibes are wonderful. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Food is marvelous. I dont know how they do the eggs like that. Woww

My girlfriend and I both loved this spot. The vibe is clean and minimalist. Service was nice and we received the food pretty fast. About 5-10 minute wait. Plenty of inside and outside seating with plenty shade. The food was amazing and the coffee was just great! Highly recommended!
Great neighborhood coffee spot! Civil Coffee has smooth, well-balanced drinks, friendly staff, and a relaxed Highland Park vibe. Perfect for a casual coffee break or quick catch-up.
really delicious coffee and great outdoor seating area. inside area is definitely geared more as a work space. their food looked good too, but did not try
It’s official I really love highland park. This Civil location is tucked away in the cutest area by a railroad. Interior is nice, lots of seating, good vibes. Drink was solid— they were out of a few things so had to pivot, but it was great. I don’t think Civil would be a regular spot for me, but it’s certainly a solid one and good for studying.
How do you create a coffee shop that caters to the Highland Park crowd? Civil has the checklist: boxes of fresh coffee beans for $25, check! A drink menu that makes me veer from my staple cortado, check! Two random bowling balls next to the cream and sugar, check! I love this place, love their coffee, love the adorable young lady taking the orders and most of all love the Figueroa!
Delicious beverages and some great tea latte options. Feels like a coffee shop, but had full breakfast options. The chilaquiles are sooo good! Croissants are high quality, super flaky and crisp. Limited seating indoors, but lots more seating outside in the back with nice atmosphere.
Civil Coffee is a great spot to get caffeinated or just relax in Highland Park. The shop is spacious, has an expansive drink and food menu, and service is pretty friendly. I ordered a cappuccino and a barbacoa burrito. Coffee is decent, although it's half an inch short of the 8oz. cup. I don't know, maybe here a cap is only 6 oz. The burrito is really tasty with juicy scrambled eggs and beef barbacoa, it looks a bit small for the price but indeed quite filling. It's worth the little wait, I appreciate the freshly made breakfast. There are plenty of seats: two rows of beautiful sunny spots by the front door, several tables inside the coffee shop; and many more in the back patio with abundant space. Fantastic place if you prefer to sit down and enjoy your coffee or meal.
Patio vibe is great. This place is a great hang so come for that. Coffee is delicious. Food was nice but nothing stood out. If you want sauce, go get it, nobody will bring it for you.
Very cute , cleanly, friendly coffee shop. I loved the mission statement at the entrance made me want to come in. We ordered the Figueroa and a vanilla cold brew and chocolate croissant. The coffee was good and if you’re a huge coffee fan you’d like it.
A bustling, local coffee shop that feels very at home within the overall vibes of the Highland park area. The coffee itself was good, but nothing particularly special. Priced about as expected - so slightly high but not unreasonably so - I ordered The Figueroa, which was a solid 4-star drink, but didn't really stand out. It was nicely presented, and the cookie is a nice touch. I think I'd recommend this location to someone for the overall 'local coffee shop vibe', but not because the coffee itself was a real standout. The space inside is generally well-constructed, if perhaps a bit small, but the outdoor patio out back provides enough additional seating that it shouldn't be an issue unless it's a peak time. If it is a busy time, the line will somewhat awkwardly wrap right within the seating area and out the door in a way that could probably be managed somewhat better. Parking is somewhat limited and may be difficult given the general area depending on time of day.

This is the 2nd time I have asked for easy ice and my drink is literally half full. Some like a lot of ice and hardly any drink, I don’t! I like the drink and less ice. But come on now! Both drinks look like someone drank out of them. Like why is it so hard to give customers what they paid for? I didn’t pay for a half drink! If you guys don’t want to give less ice and more drink then remove that option from the menu. Just greedy for expensive coffee! I’m not happy 🤦🏽♀️
To be fair - cold brew here is pretty solid and I’ve visited many times before but just had a hilarious interaction that will make me think twice about returning. Ordered a black cold brew with no ice because I have an early flight and wanted quality am coffee. Person at register told me it wouldn’t be filled to the top. Hm… how weird… but fair warning I guess. Tipped her a buck and moved to the counter. I get my coffee and it’s barely half full… and I’m an optimist! Lol, I thought she meant… maybe an inch of room at the top… but hard line at half full. Asked for clarification and while the baristas were super polite and friendly, even offering to fill it up the rest of the way for an additional $1.75 my flabbers were gasted. Lol? This is $5.50 worth of coffee apparently typically crammed with lots of ice. Here’s the thing, I would have spent way more money over my lifespan there than the 15 cents worth of product they would have lost out on by filling that to the top. What a silly hill to die on. Can’t speak to anything else at Civil but I can tell you that when superior choices like Kindness and Mischief or Jane are available in the neighborhood, there’s no reason to come here for cold brew.

I have ordered a chai tea latte here a couple times and it's just not good, it tastes like water, there is no flavor. I like the outside patio area. It's not my jam. There are better places that are cheaper and have better drinks in the area.
Cashier spent ages flirting with male customers. The better looking the longer she chatted. Very brief with women & older/less attractive men. Did not repeat my order back to me and got it wrong. Observed one other wrong order during the short time I was eating.

Really disappointed to find out this place doesn’t have WIFI?! Drove 15 min to get here, took forever to find parking, order my $8 Matcha, I pull out my work items and computer and I find out NO WIFI! Really?! 2025? Definitely won’t be back. The staff was really friendly though and the space is great. But whose idea was No WiFi?
