Sabor Latino is a popular spot for authentic Peruvian and Latin cuisine. Customers rave about the flavorful dishes and friendly service. Some note that service can be slow when busy, and a few find the salsa too spicy.

Our Visit Was So Lovely !! We Went On A Saturday Night Around 8:30 & The Restaurant Was Almost Empty But It Didn't Bother Me At All Being That I Hate Crowds ! We Had The Margaritas ( Medium ) They Were So Delicious ! The Tamales Are The Perfect Appetizers ! Our Waitress Was Very Understanding & Even Helped With Some Of Our Menu Choices Which Were All Worth It ! Will Definitely Be Going Again !
Looking for something more than the typical Tex-mex? If so, Sabor Latino’s menu includes all of the typical Mexican meals you have come to expect at the strip mall restaurants but this place has some additional options! It offers authentic Peruvian food and drink. If you do not know what to order for a Peruvian meal? You can’t go wrong with lomo saltado. This restaurant is great! The owners are Peruvian and have quite a following of loyal customers. You should also try the favorite drink of Peru - the Inca Kola. It is the best!!!!
Family favorite since they opened almost 30 years ago. Great food with a South American flare. Sadly, I liked the hole in the wall feel, before they remodeled. Nice job though. Best salsa in town with light crispy tortilla chips! We'll see you next week!
Service was a little slow but we did have 15 people. The food was GREAT! I would recommend this restaurant.
This is one of the best and most authentic Peruvian restaurants we have found and we love it! Always fantastic food, drinks, service, etc. My fiancée is Peruvian and she absolutely loves it, so I do as well! Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for authentic, delicious Peruvian food! Update: We have been back to Sabor Latino several times since I wrote my review, and it still stands: everything is outstanding and we will be back many, many more times. It is our "mandatory stop-in" anytime we head north to Birmingham or anywhere else in that direction.
New trip review A year later here I am eating the same thing that I’ve always gotten every time I come in here still excellent tasting food and Ishmyel is a great server. Always takes care of me. Last year I reviewed also just wanted to give a update Everything is great !The food here has a very good taste and amount of seasoning is just right. I usually get there Mexican side speedy Gonzales , but this is also a Peruvian restaurant and in that that means that they have Pisco, which is a type of liquor that is very good in a margarita or a pisco sour, I always ask for Ishmyel, a very large open space not quite so intimate if you don’t like a lot of noise, but I go there for the food because the price is excellent for what you get you get a very good value for your money on lunch
A delight all around!!! I have wanted to try some Peruvian dishes and was not disappointed! Really liked the arroz chaufa especial and the Peruvian tamale. My husband loved his pollo ala brasa and empanada. The pollo ala brasa was super smokey flavored and the chaufa was super garlicky! Everything was delicious and we can’t wait to come back and try more dishes from the menu!
Stopped in for lunch and a quick drink. Had a michelada and an empanada. I have been all over Mexico and had many empanadas throughout the Yucatan. This version is Peruvian style and was a slight different variation from what I was used to. It was fun to try a different cultures food for a different experience. The service was outstanding and made a a great experience.
Absolutely fantastic. I got to meet the owner as well. She was super sweet and we talked about Birmingham. If you’re looking for Latin food not just Tex-Mex or American Mexican this is the place. They have some dishes for those unfamiliar with Latin cuisine as well. Tasting the Plátanos reminded me of my time in Miami. Very authentic. Very affordable. Very delicious.
THIS IS NOT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT— it is South American. If you are coming here for a generic American style Mexican restaurant you will be disappointed. The cuisine here is AMAZING! The waitress recommended a soup that wasn’t on the menu and let me tell you that soup was a perfect compliment to the cold day outside! I’ve been coming here for over 5 years and I have never been disappointed. The Paella is amazing as well and the portions are GENEROUS 💗💗💗💗💗
I've eaten 3 times now here, and I've order the Milanesa de Pollo, Lomo Saltado and Tallarines a la Huancaína, and I just have to say that the dishes at this place are amazing, their Peruvian cuisine is delicious and I'd recommend it to anyone hands down. The staff is also very friendly and a pro tip: try their passion fruit juice, it goes well with any of their dishes. A must visit when coming to Birmingham for me from now on.
May 30, 2021 - 4:30pm First time for me - Husband works on this side of town and eats here regularly. The restaurant is very clean and staff wears face masks for CoViD. We were shown to our table and received a basket of chips and salsa when we ordered our drinks. The menu is large, with many Peruvian/Latin inspired dishes. We chose to split the Papa Rellena con Polla, a mashed potato patty stuffed with seasoned chopped chicken and then deep fried - ($5). Absolutely delicious. Hot, crispy and not overly greasy. Will definitely order again. For the entree, we chose Parrillada Latina, grilled steak, chicken, sausage, seasoned grilled vegetables, fried yuca, plantains, rice, & salad for 2 - ($24). It was served sizzling hot on a cast iron skillet. Wonderful presentation and plenty of food for the both of us. I highly recommend you give this a try.
I quite enjoyed this place, but just had one issue. The staff were nice but there was only 2 for the entire restaurant, which was quite empty on a Thursday night. You are served a thing of tortilla chips and a spicy salsa. I had a steak with white rice, over easy egg and guacamole. I loved the guacamole, it was seasoned perfectly and creamy. The over easy egg was done perfectly and the white rice was great! The steak could have been really good but I asked for medium and it was well done, so it was tough, the flavors were good though. The paella valanceaga was pretty good! It's not a typical paella but a rice made and then added in meat like shrimp, squid, octopus, green mussels, and sausage. The rice had some spiciness to it that reminded me of a seafood seasoning, overall it was quite delicious! As for the drinks I had the lime frozen margarita and it was delicous! I definitely recommend trying this place out if you want to try some more of the authentic Latino and Peruvian dishes.
My wife and I were staying in a hotel nearby and decided to try this place for something different. The staff are friendly and be warned, the salsa they serve with chips is very spicy compared to most restaurants, but it's delicious. My wife had a tamale and something like quesadilla triangles. I ordered the fajita steak quesadilla. Both were very good.
The food didn’t meet our expectations in terms of flavor. We ordered a variety of dishes since we were a large group, but unfortunately, nothing really tasted like authentic Peruvian cuisine. No one in our group was fully satisfied with their meal. However The service was very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated!
