I got the mushroom ravioli and my wife got the 4-cheese pasta and both were absolutely incredible. The portions are very generous and the atmosphere is great. My only complaint was our server seemed a bit flippant with our presence. My wife made the comment that maybe we weren’t spending enough money for her to care since we didn’t get bottles of wine or any alcohol from the bar.

Gianmarco’s in Homewood is an absolute gem. When I lived in Birmingham, it was always one of my favorite spots, and now I make it a point to come back every time I’m in town. I always order the seafood fra diavolo — it’s not on the menu, but it’s an incredible pasta dish that never disappoints. On my most recent visit, my family joined me for dinner, and the service was impeccable. Even though the restaurant was packed (as it always is, thanks to its well-earned popularity), our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel well taken care of. To top it off, they surprised us with complimentary desserts — the special lemon cake, tiramisu, and bombolini — all of which were phenomenal. The wine and cocktail selection is also outstanding, making the whole dining experience truly special. If you’re anywhere near Birmingham, Gianmarco’s is a must-visit.

Fantastic!! Started with the crab claws followed by an incredible rack of lamb perfectly cooked. Staff and bartenders were great! Shoutout to Jacob at the front bar.

The selection of food and wine are in the WOW factor and along with the AMAZING staff and ATMOSPHERE really makes this place ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! 😃 Our server Josh was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and entertaining . This hands down might be one of the best Italian restaurants in Alabama if not the south. Iva in the Wine Bar is an amazing individual and will make your meal feel like you’re one of the family. Bailey is super great too and very patient with explaining to new customers!

My husband and I tried out gianmarcos for a last minute date night. We went to the wine bar in the back and had a great time! Wine by the bottle was super reasonable and a very nice selection. The staff was super welcoming and made some great recommendations. My husband had the snapper special and I got the lasagna and we both loved our meals. Super cozy intimate atmosphere. Definitely get there early if you don't want a wait though. Valet was complimentary and super easy. I'll definitely be back!

Pasta was great. Not a lot of vegetarian options though. On the expensive side compared to other places in Birmingham. No line because there’s lots of seating but it’s pretty tight seating in the dining room.

The restaurant provided great service and an extensive selection of options to choose from. We enjoyed a peaceful dinner even on a busy night. Our meal included steamed mussels, Caesar salad, lasagna, linguine with clams, and we finished with a flourless chocolate cake. The wines and cocktails were spot on. We finally made it to Gianmarco’s and we loved it. Some of the best Italian we have had and we will definitely be back. You need reservations so plan accordingly. Chicken parmigiana was great!

I am giving the atmosphere 3 stars because we were in the back room and the room was humid and smelled of mildew. Granted it has been hot & humid today (over 100⁰). I have eaten here one other time in the same room and there was no issue. That aside, the food was delicious and the service was wonderful. We had a drink at the bar before our table was ready. Even though the bartender was busy, he made us feel seen and heard. Once we were seated, our server told us the specials which all sounded great. We decided to stick with the menu. We started with the Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese and the Fiocchi. Both were great and I would go back to sit and the bar with those apps and a few drinks. We moved on to the Chopped Salad (friend) and the Baby Greens Salad (me). My salad was solid and I enjoyed it. I will order it again, but wouldn't make a special trip for it. For the main course, I had the Pistachio and Goat Cheese Crusted Rack of Lamb and my friend had the Joyce Farms Chicken Breast Francese. Both were delicious and I look forward to exploring the rest of the menu!

After years of trying to get a reservation when I was in town, we finally got in for my son's 19th birthday. I had high expectations from everything people had said for years and how hard it was to get a reservation on short notice. Working in an Italian restaurant myself in the recent past I feel like I can make a fair judgement in comparison to higher class Italian restaurants in larger cities and even outside Homewood. I was disappointed that mac and cheese was a side in an upper scale menu, just took the class level down a notch for me. We started with the burrata and I loved that it wasnt served with bread but that you use the meat to wrap it and eat it, delicious. The lamb was amazing! My son ordered a mocktail before ordering food and we didn't get it until half way through dinner, seems like the staff forgot about it or there wasn't anyone to run it. I also mentioned we were celebrating my son's birthday and even when ordering dessert there wasn't anything done, no candle or happy birthday, and when we were finishing up and I payed the bill, they were singing to another table with a candle. 😒 The lighting was too bright to make it feel cozy, it felt more like an upscale family diner than a romantic Italian restaurant to me. Our server was wonderful personality wise. I'm usually not this critical of a place, but felt really disappointed that there's so much hype and it didn't live up to the kind of place I was expecting. It was a one and done for us.

We had a reservation 2 weeks ahead of time for Feb 28, my husband called and they said they don't make reservations for 10 or more and they told him they will reserve 2 tables of 5 next to each other in the wine room. At 7:30pm we had someone arrive at 7 and they said they had no reservations for my husband last name (or his first name) when we got there he started telling them what they told him and he said how would he know about the name of the room or how the layout was if he wasn't given that information when making a reservation. Needless to say we weren't accommodated, even after we had 3 people in our party to not show up. We talked to 3 different hosts and Noone tried to make up for them not taking the reservation down. I had to ask for a manger which never came so we left. This is horrible customer service, to not try to accommodate our party of 7 on my husband birthday. We won't be back.

The short version: no parking, long wait, bad staff, cold food. My experience at Gianmarcos was incredibly disappointing. We were not seated until almost 45 minutes after our reservation, there is no seating or proper waiting area so you are just standing around the bar for almost an hour, and that's the experience with a reservation. There is no dedicated parking lot, you must either valet or park in front of someones house and hike around the neighborhood to even get inside. Once we were finally brought to our table, we found that it was more or less in the middle of a doorway (which later lead to a waiter bumping into the back of my head in the middle of my dinner. Unacceptable). We had 3 people come to our table to drop off bread or water and none of them really said anything, and when our waiter arrived they never introduced themselves, they just told us the specials and weren't very personable. The wait for the food was not terrible, around 35-40 minutes with a full restaurant, but much to my dismay my food came out room temperature. My food along with one of the other meals at my table was room temperature, and one was mildly warm. The only food that came the correct temperature was the salad one of the people at my table ordered, which was also unfortunately the best item we ate that night. During my dining experience I saw two other tables send food back to the kitchen while I was there. I would have been upset at this service even if it was from a very affordable chain restaurant, but for it to come from a restaurant that makes itself out to be such high quality was very disappointing.

Not great honestly. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive either, not really worth it if you ask me. I make better pasta at home and I am nowhere near qualified to be considered a chef. Service was friendly but couldn't tell us how much the specials would cost which never has happened in any restaurant, that's basic information really. On top of that, they didn't really care that it was my girlfriend's birthday. Not even a happy birthday. I would recommend to go elsewhere to celebrate a special event. The tables are also really close together which in itself is not a huge issue but the acoustics are really bad which makes it hard to hear each other talk. The atmosphere in the backroom is not great, it feels like you are eating in a auto garage. On a positive note, the wine list was quite extensive and well curated. All in all, I won't be back. Doing research on where to eat this place came back as overrated by some and underrated by others so your mileage may vary I guess.
