Nice and cozy neighborhood restaurant. They just remodeled the interior and also reinvented their menu and offering 5 items for each meals course, and that's where their new 555 name comes from. We liked the overall experience and very good service. Not too many seats available inside, so might be safer to reserve especially during the pandemic with limited capacity regulations. Their duck is my favorite. Recommend!
Was invited to a business dinner at this quaint little place and the food and atmosphere was incredible. Our waitress, Stephanie, was amazing and brought a smile to our faced multiple times throughout the evening. I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. I don't think you could go wrong.
Excellent food. Margherita pizza was probably the best I've had in Houston. It was made in true Neapolitan style. Per my friend, the lobster pot pie was also great. The tomato soup was on point. The pistachio ice cream was a major disappointment. They were kind enough to change it with creme brulee which was okayish, could've been a little colder but better than the ice cream. Would definitely visit again for the pizza!!! Few decent options for vegetarians.
PRO'S: Bistro 555 is an excellent choice for traditional french provincial dishes. We had a well-dressed house salad, escargot & trout, all well prepared. Traditional french onion soup was slightly beefy & too hot. Excellent service and a modest priced wine list made the evening enjoyable. CON'S: The stiff, traditional french bread was not my favorite style. SUMMARY: Bistro 555 does a fine job of recreating traditional french dishes and will continue to be a restaurant we visit.
At Bostro 555, the lobster pot pie is a comfort food dream, packed with juicy lobster in creamy sauce. Their mussels are soaked in a tasty garlic and wine broth, and their pizzas are just perfect with fresh toppings on crispy crust. It's a place any food lover would enjoy! I felt like i was in France in a backstreet bistro!!!
***Edited review after new ownership** The renewed establishment is night and day. They clearly incorporated some of the winning combinations from the Le Mistral restaurant here, and it shows. Food was incredible. Chicken was good, Mistral salad perfect, cassoulet divine, and lovely desserts as well. Will definitely be coming back!! Photos are recent Old Review under previous management: Went in with very high hopes... came away dissapointed. Order was wrong, to start. I got the carrot soup - okay. Then, the scallop and pork belly. Pork belly was literally inedible... and I'm pretty forgiving on any pork products. It was impossible to cut through and I couldn't chew it at all. Beyond overcooked and tougher than jerky. Chicken stew was average, dark meat chicken in a broth somehow still dry and appeared to be sitting awhile. Didnt finish any of our dishes and went to eat at another restaurant afterwards. So, so sad. Really wanted this nearby joint to be alot better than it was. Gave them 2 stars for the cute atmosphere. If you're looking for fabulous French cuisine, go to Le Mistral about 5 minutes farther to the west.
This place was amazing! Wonderful atmosphere and incredible food!! We had reservations and were seated right away. We got 3 appetizers: escargot, duck patè, and the cheese plate. They brought out warm bread. We each had a different entree: Bœuf À La Bourguignonne, Les Moules Frites Du "Rabelais" (fresh mussels), Cassoulet De Canard À "La Toulousaine", and Le Steak Au Poivre De Luc. All delicious! We all loved out entrees and tried everyone else’s. Then dessert! They brought me a birthday Profiterole with the best chocolate sauce I’ve ever had, raspberry sorbet, Crème Brûlée, and a pistachio/chocolate ice cream-like dessert (I can’t remember what they called it). Can’t say how much we loved this place! So good!
Loved this quaint family-run French bistro on Memorial Drive. Authentic French cuisine at moderate prices. The only thing we didn't like was the cheese pizza that we ordered for my toddler. He wasn't too keen on the cheese they used. Other than that, all our other items were delish!
One of the absolutely best dining experiences I've ever had in many years. Why have I not ever visited this place before? Thus French Bistro exceeded our expectations and was well worth every penny. First of all, the place had a lovely atmosphere. It truly reminded me of our time in Paris. The walls, tables, everything. The place is family owned and it was felt as soon as we were welcomed inside. Axel provided us with absolutely amazing service and made the meal ever more memorable. The rest of the staff was equally fantastic. We started with the wold mushrooms soup. This was amazing and perfect. Though we are not women drinkers we had a couple of glasses of rose. We had a pizza, done fabulously, and mussels in wine and cream sauce, again another winner. The mussels were accompanied with truffle fries and they were delicious. They also provided bread which was done extremely well. We finished the meal off with profiteroles, which were simply delicious, and a cup of coffee. The portions were quite large for us, so we had to take a bit of food home. As we had enough for another meal, we ordered a raspberry tarte to go- it did not disappoint! I highly recommend this little place and we look forward to visiting again!
Our first time in this French restaurant since they changed of owners (it’s was before the Bistro Provence). The decoration is very nice, typical from south of France. Large choice of famous French recipes, excellent service and everything was just excellent (including the bread 😋). Great choice of wines too. They are also closing at 10:00 pm on Saturday which is a plus. We will definitely come back.
This tiny restaurant does not disappoint. I’ve been wanting to try it for years and I finally did for an early birthday dinner. My aunt and I were very impressed with our experience. Make reservations! There are only 18 tables (some were 4 tops, so there are more tables if broken down to 2 seaters), and it gets very busy. We lucked out with a table in the corner by the kitchen. We were able to talk and I felt we were out of the way from the other tables. They also have a handful of tables outside. Parking is limited, but we were able to find a spot with a shirt walk to the entrance. We started with a glass of wine and looked over the menu. We settled on a couple appetizers to split. Of course, you can’t go to a French restaurant and not get the escargot. In addition to that, we ordered a bowl of French onion soup. Both were phenomenal. The escargot was bubbling and buttery. The French onion soup was piping hot with a rich base and beautifully appointed with melted cheese. It was the best French onion soup I’ve ever had! They also serve bread and dipping oil. That was delicious as well. For our meal, I had the BŒUF À LA BOURGUIGNONNE. It’s a beef stew dish they are known for, and I can see why. The meat is tender, the sauce is rich with carrots and mushrooms. It is served along side of egg noodles. Delicious! My aunt had the L'ENTRECÔTE-FRITES. It’s a nicely prepared ribeye with garlic green beans and hand cut fries. I tasted hers and it was all very good. We both had enough to take home for another meal. Our server was attentive, helpful with menu suggestions, and prompt with the service. It was a perfect dining experience. Our bills was $186.00 before tip. This includes 4 glasses of wine, bread and oil, 2 appetizers, and 2 main dishes. I think that’s very reasonable for a high quality dining experience. Before trying the restaurant, I read their reviews. One woman mentioned that someone who writes long reviews is typically not really a customer, but instead, an owner or a paid reviewer. This is not the case. If you follow me, you will see that I always write long reviews. I like to give a full written experience to anyone reading my reviews. That way you can see, start to finish, what I experienced. Well done, indeed. It’s like I stepped into a cozy restaurant in Southern France. Highly recommend.
First timers. We didn’t do reservations so we could’ve waited or sat outside. We choose outdoors. Ordered a bottle of sparkling water and escargot for hubby. Waitstaff bright us a hot French loaf with a mix of herbs and OO. Nice We ordered the recommended wine which we wanted similar to Pinot Gris - Sancerre. We ordered the chicken & rice and salad to share. It was a superb meal fitting for the outdoors. Ended our meal with a French puff. Our waitperson, Theo was knowledge and helpful in our selections. Definitely, will go again! We hope the photos helps.
We were very anxious to dine at this Bistro that had such good comments about its cuisine. We booked a table one day so we could go alone (I think children are not allowed and if so I would not take them) it is ideal for a date (although the tables inside are too close together, it is understood that they want to resemble the remains of France but there the tables are not so close together, anyway we tried to have a good experience that far exceeded expectations. From the beginning the waiters understood that we wanted to have a quiet dinner, we sat next to a wall full of wines and as it is our specialty we were able to order a bottle that is not available even in the good restaurants in Houston. We started with L'assiette De Fromages spectacular flavors, and then I ordered a Cassolette de Langouste Sauce Homard | Portobello Mushrooms spectacular flavors highlighted, and my husband ordered sweet and sour duck that seemed small but was not and had an existing flavor, I think it is no longer on the menu. We didn't order dessert because we were really full. All the food was of great quality and you can tell it is a high level restaurant. Regarding the service, we are not used to in the USA that we are always attended in a hurry, here we found a service that adapted to our time, let us enjoy the wine and each dish, the waiters (young) attend very well and are attentive. We will be back for sure, I hope to return!
WOW – I think I may have found my favorite, local restaurant. This place is very cozy and has great ambiance with a French theme. I’ve been wanting to come here for years, and I was NOT disappointed. The staff is very friendly, the kitchen is open with the wood-fire oven making bread non-stop, and the wine was a nice compliment to the star of the show – the food! Without getting in to the French names of the dishes, I had the succulent beef stew that was PACKED with flavor, and the beef was soft and melted in my mouth. My wife had the Salmon with Chorizo, and the cheese starter plate. My mouth is watering as I write this 😊 And, as the waiters came out with dishes for adjacent tables, every dish looked amazingly delicious! I am a fan of this place and suggest you give it a shot and see for yourself.
This French restaurant was definitely worth the try! The decor was very traditional European style and gave you a casual and intimate vibe. Food were excellent and service were above par. The French oil soup was thicker and richer than what I had in Paris, but was still very good. Steak and mussels were good too. would definitely come back to try more items.
The food was delicious, definitely worth going and definitely worth going again. The chicken entree was delicious, one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. If the onion soup was put in the oven and heated up to a Hell level temperature it would have been perfect, and the profiteroles have a rich dark chocolate that was great.
Totally reliving our summer trip to Provence at Bistro 555. We both subscribe to Date Your Spouse, a Christian app that is awesome and fun, and our most recent date challenge was to go on Trip Advisor and play restaurant roulette. So we did and we found this hidden gem. Ravioli was amazing! Husband’s ribeye was good (it truly was, but we both admit this was the best). Bread course appetizer yum. The wine list is totally approved. And YESSS to the pistachio ice cream. Also husband says it’s the best cup of coffee he has had since France. Next time I’m getting the chicken fricassee. So yummy. Highly recommend. And shout out to Yirla ❤️
A nice casual bistro on Memorial Drive. Dress code casuals. On this Tuesday evening, servers wear jeans and black shirts. Not quite half when our party of 4 was seated at 5:40. We had a bottle of wine based on the server’s recommendation. Had CARPACCIO DE FILET DE BŒUF & VIEUX PARMESAN for an appetizer we all enjoyed. (By the way, Carpaccio means raw, as in tenderloin). For entrees, we had different items. I had the salmon on ravioli. It was tasty meal. Others had Flat Iron Steak, and Red Wine Beef Stew. All enjoyed their meal. The service was great, from explaining meals, to selecting wine, to keeping glasses full of beverages. We were on a schedule and had to skip desserts. Nice job all the way around.
What a fabulous place to spend time! Very intimate and personal! Went there for our 31st anniversary and everything was simply perfect! Their Frois Gras is absolutely life changing and the manu is something of a want list for things you must try! Everything was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff were nothing short of amazing. Thank you for a perfect night with stunning food and awe inspiring atmosphere!
Who would’ve known that I ever would’ve gone to a French restaurant and had the best pork and beans (it was actually duck confit, Toulouse sausage and pork belly and white beans). The two salads were amazing. I thought they were dressed a little bit too much, but actually it was perfect. Nice wine selection. I was not used to my ravioli being such a small noodle, a little too much marinara for my liking – but still good. Pizza was delicious- coming up fresh from a wood-burning oven. We were unable to have the baked Alaskan because we ordered off the menu rather than the New Year’s eve pre fixe menu Very cramped. I’d prefer less tables. Less than a foot - in every direction - from the next table. You could see each other‘s bills and hear each other‘s conversations. People are eating outside, however, it was freezing cold. They did have heat lamps, but the waiters had to keep going in and out the door that meant the inside was cold, as well. Would go back – but probably get it to go
Had dinner here last night and it was excellent. I had the seared scallops and my wife has the snapper. We started with the onion soup that was off the charts delicious. The small place is cozy and neat, and the service was great. We're excited to go back again.
This place has been around forever- or I should say -this location, yet I’ve never been until just this month. I love this place. I went during the day, but I can envision at night- little white lights, wine, appetizers, and a good time at this spot. It’s very quaint, and the kitchen is in front to see. The food was great, and good service. We ordered a lot of small things so we could get in all of the flavors. Counting Carbs was out the window- bc their bread on the table is great as well. They had a good duck mousse I believe? Different. Lobster bisque was also good. It’s a cream base but not thick. I like smaller places like this, and will definitely be back. I’m so glad I finally went here after?? However long. Thanks
Wow, what a wonderful experience. While our reservation was misplaced, the very friendly and accommodating owner found us a table. The food was outstanding! Check the website for special wine dinners they offer. The staff and owner are wonderful, and it made us feel like we were back in France.
- Food: We ordered lemon chicken, salad, salmon, shrimps, pasta with lamb and mussels. I can say all are very tasty, except they have lack of salt. Mussels are very small however tasty, if they change their vendor for mussels or just go and buy from HEB that would be wonderful. They have a good price lunch menu for those have to have their lunch outside daily. Good selections of French wines and with reasonable prices. -Service: Waiters are very attentive, kind and doing their job. - Atmosphere: Very cosy, a small French bistro, just how it supposed to be.
Great food and atmosphere! Both waiters Chuck and Teodoro are very attentive and friendly. The hostess Blanca has always been accommodating if we are running late due to traffic. The chef and his staff make great food, and we have never had a bad dish after eating there over fifty times in the past year. All the seafood dishes are great, especially the Red Snapper and Trout. Our ten year old daughter loves their Filet and Pizzas.
The food here is amazing! So much flavor. The portions are small, but that's to be expected at a French restaurant. It's more about quality, less about quantity. I had the beef tenderloin and my wife had the lobster pot pie and they were both so delicious. The avocado carpaccio was a great start, very lemony, but so tasty. Even the complimentary bread is top notch, crispy outside and soft inside and we loved the creme brulee. I wouldn't say the service was slow, I think unrushed would be a better description, but what could be more European that that? We never felt like the servers weren't being attentive. We will definitely be coming back. Definitely make a reservation, even if Google says it's not crowded. The outside seating is not bad if the weather is nice, but the fire station is right next door and they were busy tonight.
Here excellent wines for very good prices accompany outstanding dishes! The onion soup was a delight. The foie gras on red wine pears and garlic toast in a heavenly sauce was only topped by the fricassee des volaies au morilles. chablis and St. Emillion rounded it all off! Delicious
This was our first time dining here. I am sad that we have not been enjoying this place for years! We started with the escargot and charcuterie board. Excellent. The escargot was exactly the same that we eat in France. We had the trout dish and snapper which were cooked perfectly. I can't wait to return and try more dishes.
Top quality French cuisine. Doesn't get any better. Lobster pot pie is out of this world...a must try! Their beet, arugula, goat cheese salad is amazing. Wine selection is great. I even took my mom to their special chef's menu mother's day celebration, and it was superb.
My husband and I dined at Bistro 555 for my birthday and had a wonderful evening. We started with one too many appetizers, but everything sounded so good. We shared the cheese plate. We each really enjoyed one of the cheeses and the honey was to die for. My husband had the French onion soup, and I had the duck confit pate. For the main course my husband had the beef stew and I had the red snapper. Both dishes were divine. We asked for chocolate mousse for dessert, but there was a miscommunication and after a delay we received a molten lava cake. Delayed because it was made fresh! It was extremely good, not too sweet. We will definitely return.
You cannot go wrong. The food and wine selection are excellent. The owner and staff are so friendly. It's a little spot of Paris in west Houston. Update 2021: Ever bit as enjoyable as the former Bistro Provence. The interior has been refreshed, the A/C works well now, and the food is still so good. Our server, Blanca, was a pleasure to meet and did a great job.
I’m already planning my next visit here. Came to celebrate my mother on Mother’s Day, the food was absolutely amazing! I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was phenomenal, the waitstaff was very attentive and the atmosphere was very laid back and relaxing. I had the Beef Wellington and I can say that it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I can’t recommend this place enough!
I loved my whole meal! We will be back. Next time I will have the escargot and mussels. We wanted to try everything on the menu. A small cozy place, felt like I was back in Paris. I can’t believe I haven’t been here before. Highly recommend. The French fries are so crispy and good. My wild mushroom soup was superb. Just go if you like French Food. This Canadian couple loves it. Make sure you make reservations. 💕
I will be perfectly honest, I have been to France several times and this is not like a real French Bistro but somewhat similar. The food is delicious though, maybe not all French but yet still delicious and made fresh. The people are friendly and attentive, the place is small and cozy. I will definitely go back, probably today and will be recommending this place to my friends. This will definitely be one of my go to places when I want to eat fresh home made food, great wine and excellent desserts!
Amazing food! Service was spectacular as they only had two servers on the floor but they were rocking it out. very attentive to all customers, no one complaining or having a bad time with service. we love it, recommend it and we will be back!
This French bistro is a hidden gem. The food was excellent — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every dish felt authentic and made with care. The place is small and quaint, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It has a cozy, charming atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxing meal. Service was good — the staff was polite and attentive. One thing to note: parking is limited, so plan ahead. Overall, a wonderful spot for delicious French food in a cozy setting. I’ll definitely return.
Went for dinner on a quiet Tuesday evening. Had made reservation and were promptly seated on arrival. Place was busy for a Tuesday night. Menu is French inspired and reflects great authentic dishes. Started out with a well seasoned salad frisée with a poached egg and lardons. For main course, I enjoyed their filet au poivre, which was cooked to perfection and came with fries. I couldn't skip dessert and ordered a pistachio sundae. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was polished and impeccable. A great neighborhood restaurant. Parking can be challenging and Uber is encouraged.
This restaurant is fabulous!! The food, service, wine selection & ambience is excellent!!! No complaints after at least a dozen visits over the past 3 years. Very romantic for date night & perfect for a lunch date with your bestie.
Un lugar acogedor , bonito y romántico para ir con tu pareja La comida deliciosa !!!
Pizza 🍕 la mejor la atencion muy buena
Muy romantico y es esquisita la comida
Excelente
Exelente
The food here is always really good! I always feel service is a huge gap for this business. I've gone a number of times for lunch, and the service is just slow period, regardless if it's a busy crowd or not. It's a great "hole in the wall" type place. Mussle soup is good. Nothing is super "Special" but always good quality.
Charming little place, with exceptional wine selection and some wonderful menu items. I highly recommend ordering thé foie gras, and green peppercorn filet. Both were enhanced to a dream level with the sauces. I wanted to sneak into the kitchen, kidnap the Saucier and bring him home with me!! We had read about the Mussels Entree and Bouillabaisse, neither of which were available that evening. But we will be back!
Waitstaff here was excellent!!!!!!!!! The bread & olive oil was excellent, we had the cheese plate and found the cheeses to be a bit run-of-the-mill but still enjoyed. For mains we had the salmon and the ribeye. The salmon came with the skin on & crispy and with a pesto type sauce that was delicious. The hummus and tomato purée seemed a bit unnecessary. Asparagus was great. The ribeye was cooked very well and was flavorful. Fries were a bit bland. Wine selection is great for bottles and small for glasses, but still workable.
Easy to make online reservations and table ready on arrival. Waiter moved us around trying to get best location for heater since it was a cool evening. Food was great and plentiful. My wife and I split each course with food left over. Some things seem to run out (we were last to get mussels) so put your full order in just incase. Waiter had an issue with billing but resolved it quickly and explained the mistake thoroughly. Great date night location, though the inside gets a little crowded and noisy.
This is a cute little Cafe style restaurant. It's very small and reminds you of Paris if you've ever been. They nailed the vibe completely. There is very little seating, so I would recommend making a reservation. No cocktails sold here, but plenty of wine to choose from. The menu is very nice and has something for everyone. Our first time trying escargot and it was very pleasing. Probably will not visit again.
The staff in the dining room were all very nice and appeared knowledgeable. There was not a single French person on staff, not as waiter or cooking staff. The food was very good: fricassee de volailles and moules marinieres. Generous portion of protein, served hot and tasty. The restaurant itself is a small place that gets loud with the conversations going on. There should be a way to insulate it better. The tables are small, too small, especially the tables for two. It gets crowded very quickly.
Food was very good and wine was very reasonable for a bottle. Did run out of the specials for the night. Does not split checks, and for the size of the restaurant, seems silly to not be able to accommodate since most other restaurants do these days. The honey lavender duck was very good. The creme brulee was delicious. Overall, was a good night out with great company.
1st time there. Very good food and the French Onion soup is excellent. Service was very good. Very small place so we had to sit outside, which was OK but it's next to a major street so a fair amount of noise. Also, outside seats were small metal ones that were not comfortable for me or the husband of our friend as we're both big men.
An amazing little neighborhood bistro. If you are looking for your French food hangout, this is it. Casual, comfortable. I had the mussels and my husband had Steak au Poivre. We both loved our food and had the tartine for dessert. There is an extensive wine list with pricing for everyone. We'll be back as regulars.
If you want French savor just go there to eat. A variety of plates. The staff is very friendly. Good service and cozy restaurant.
Filet with French fries. I'd prefer another choice for the starch. The fries were skinny and lost their heat quickly.
Buen menú francés . Para conocedores de la cocina francesa . Buenos vinos. Sitio agradable, ambiente cálido y romántico.
A cozy restaurant alongside the road with ample parking. Drive slow because you may miss it. The restaurant has a small outdoor seating, and there are indoor seatings good for small groups. Service was good. Staff were friendly and attentive. I had the HRW lunch. I chose shredded duck confit for appetizer, house-smoked Atlantic salmon for entrée, and corn tres leches for dessert. The shredded duck confit was slightly salty, but it was a good dish to start. The Atlantic salmon was cooked perfectly. The smashed fingerling potatoes were fresh, and the hollandaise sauce paired well with the salmon. The asparagus was good. The corn tres leches was ok. It wasn't soggy but it was a little firm. The flavor was good. Overall the food was ok.
About 6-7 years ago, I made amazing memories at this restaurant because the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. This time, the food was average, lacking flavor, and overpriced. Service was terrible and lacking in personality. When we arrived at 8pm, we promptly received our waters filled by a pre-chilled bottle and our wine orders were fulfilled swiftly. Followed by the drink orders, we received bread knots with herbaceous oil which was good, but average. We devoured that and next we ordered the duck pâté with olives and small pickles for our appetizer, beef bourguignon, and a steak dish engulfed by a beurre blanc type sauce with green beans, and fries. By the time the clock hit, 9:05pm, we received our appetizer which is the first picture after the menu. The duck pâté resembled a chicken salad with no seasoning and I thought it odd that the bread or some sort of cracker didn’t go with it. It seemed like a very incomplete dish and there was no cohesiveness to how the ingredients worked with each other. While my wife and I contemplated our life’s decisions, the volume of the restaurant went through the roof and service got slower. Finally the mains, the bœuf was totally over cooked and the sauce was okay at best. My wife leaned over to me and stated that she could beat it and to that I agreed. Next, my dish was decent. The flavor of the sauce carried the dish while the steak was without flavor (consider a salt rub or something here), the fries had no flavor either with lacking in salt, but the green beans were excellent but I’d argue it’s hard to mess those up. The redeeming factor was their wine menu seemed to carry great selections. We were happy with their one and only cab sav on the menu. In conclusion, 1.5-2hr dinner with slow service, food lacking flavor, loud environment, and a bill over $120.
I had the salmon with ravioli and my partner had the lobster pot pie that came with some rice. I'll start with the good/decent which was the food. The best part was the fact that we got big glasses of free champagne for taking a lyft to the restaurant which they encourage because of the lack of parking. The flavors were not anything special or extraordinary but they were good enough to enjoy the whole dish. The service was also attentive and everyone was nice and in good spirits which I appreciated. The bad was everything else to the lack of parking, small venue, pretty crowded, no music and the dish felt too expensive for what it was. It'll be quite a while before I come back.
We came to celebrate a special event. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food. The onion soup was okay, the escargots were way too salty (and I am a big fan of salt), and the mussels were swimming in a chowder-like sauce that was definitely too heavy for the delicate texture of the mussels. The mussels also had chewy and sandy taste. Apparently, overcooked and not clean enough. The service was more like “ha’you doing, what can I get for you” type. No suggestions, no recommendations, no talk about their specialties. The Sauvignon Blanc by the glass wasn’t crisp and fragrant. The restaurant is clean and cozy. So are the restrooms. The bread was also warm, fresh, and delicious. We drove for 40 min to try this place, but do have any desire to return.
I went to this place for the first time with my coworkers for lunch today. The food was pretty good except for the rice it was undercooked. I did like the lobster pot pie it was actually better with the bread they serve you with as complimentary. The inside was rather small but cozy it would be a good place to go with someone on a date night. Definitely suggest you make reservation. The price is on the higher side most dishes cost around $30 bucks. They do have lunch specials two for two for $26.00 I strongly recommend you get there early as possible especially for lunch time because they do take a long time for them to prepare your order we ordered three dishes and took them more than 30 minutes.
Quaint, rustic French restaurant with good food executed poorly. I went with my husband and 2 friends on a Friday night. We had reservations and I'm glad, because it was busy. It's a tiny restaurant, which I think is what causes most of the issues. We started with the duck rillettes, cheese plate, and tomato burrata salad. The rillettes was severely under seasoned. It would've been delicious with more salt. And it also needed crostini or even just some crackers. The cheeses would've been good as well, but they were all served ice cold. The honey was chilled as well, which made it almost impossible to eat. The salad was fine, but again under seasoned. Almost every dish we had desperately needed salt. I had the duck confit cassoulet. It was good, but needed salt (I know I sound like a broken record, but lack of seasoning was the theme of the night). 2 of us got the chicken fricassee (guess what it was missing), and one of us got the lobster pot pie. It was the best thing we had. But served with saffron rice, which seemed a little disjointed. The portions for every dish were very generous. The worst thing we had was the tarte tatin. I'm about 90% sure it had been cooked at least 5 days ago, then heated up by Chef Mike. It was mushy, the apples had very little flavor, just sour. And the puff pastry was so tough I could hardly cut through it. My husband had the sorbet, and it was delicious. No complaints about the molten chocolate cake or creme brulee. The restaurant is small and got very loud. They do have outdoor seating, so if the weather is nice I recommend sitting outside. Overall it was fine, but I wouldn't go back.
We dined here last night and there were some good and not so good. The good-friendly and good service. Some foods were good - fresh bread although small portions, escargots, french fries and apple tart dessert. Not so good was the mussels- lots of gritty sand so obviously not prepared properly and too creamy, the beef bourguignon lacked flavor and beef was tough.
First time & be last time. AhiTuna = bad Fish/very fishy taste/could not Even eat it. My first restaurant to be served spoiled old fish. Fig Pizza not good, in fact we didn’t finis & did not take home. Not much flavor or cheese. Le Mistrial salad Terrible/terrible /No roasted nuts or blueberry vinaigrette it was disgusting & soggy. My friend picked it & I did not want to say anything =Waiter saw I did not eat Tuna when bringing check /so brought me disgusting soggy salad that I have no idea what the seedy things were & gross vinergertte. Surprised not offered refund for Rotten ahi tuna. Pic outside place.
From the moment our appetizers arrived, it was evident that considerable effort had been put into the presentation. Each plate was meticulously arranged, showcasing a blend of vibrant colors and artistic flair. However, as we delved into our meals, it became apparent that the visual appeal did not translate into satisfying flavors.
Pretty terrible. 2 stars because the wine was good and fairly priced. The complimentary bread was the best part of the meal. The beef Wellington was so over cooked to h**l that is was tough in the middle. There was no color on the inside. The red snapper was flavorless and some of the rice was crunchy. The appetizers were nothing to write home about. The waitress didn’t even know what beers they had. Overall, this place needs to figure out what they’re doing. Will not be back.
I used to pass by this place daily when I lived in the area, and I was always interested to actually have a dinner there. Being a spontaneous person I kept forgetting to make a reservation, though. Last night we finally made it, got dressed and came down with a plenty of room reserved for some french cuisine. We were given a spot outside ( there was no way we could make a reservation inside on the same day). The service was good, but nothing extraordinary. The atmosphere was okay, at least they made a small effort by placing a screen between the outside seating and the parking lot. Now, the cherry on top - the food. Escargots were tasty and paired well the complimentary fresh bread. Although the bread was just okay. The onion soup was strange, with a very strong and dark broth and herbs dominating the taste. The lobster pot pie was a disappointment, too. The pieces of lobster came out rubbery and the broth was bland and plain. Fun fact, both my wife and I had a feeling that the rice on a side was made with a cheap Knorr chicken powder, a complete disaster. Finally, the steak. It came out overcooked, as well as the beans. The green pepper sauce was again based on a very strong stock that domintaed the flavor. The verdict: I have an impression that whatever we tasted was made by someone who has never tasted real french cuisine ( or it was a long time ago). I have a high tolerance to variances in recipes and techniques, but as long as it tastes good. Unfortunately, Bistro 555 could not get close to it at all.
Place was empty at noon. Today's Special: $11 for a ham & cheese sandwich on semi-toasted white bread (1 slice luncheon ham & some melted cheese) with a small salad on plate. $14 Codfish with zucchini(yuck) changed to mashed potatoes & cauliflower. All white plate, no greenery, no nothing. BLAND. Terrible plate presentations. Service was good, but they had nothing better to do. I don't recommend this place. In response to the owner. I did not come prepared to take pictures of my meal.. But, what you see, is what we were served. Yes, we had a hard time discerning what we were eating too. I did forget to mention the bread & olive oil. That was decent. I am sorry that I worded the Lunch Special Entree wrong. It was Codfish with a white sauce on top, Zucchini & Cauliflower. My companion substituted mashed potatoes for the zucchini. On a yellow-rimmed white plate, the original presentation would have looked just as bad. Put a little parsley, something with color for the sauce, just something, would have been better. And the sandwich didn't taste any better than what I can make at home. And to ASSUME that I'm used to eating low-quality frozen fish, compared to your fresh wild-caught COD, is quite INSULTING. AND, why would you COVER a nice Wild caught piece of fish with a bland white cream sauce? My dinner companion KNOWS her French Cuisine & You failed miserably yesterday. To top that off, the entire time we were discussing how horrible our food looked and tasted, NOBODY bothered to come ask about it. I mean there were 6 people in the restaurant at 12:30 p.m. & we were 2 of them and nobody noticed that we weren't delighted with our meal. I stick by my review, but now, I'm INSULTED that you're making this OUR fault and by your assumptions that we eat low quality food and don't know what we're talking about.
My husband reserved at this location for my brirthday… First observation: The manager was really dry and impolite at the moment of the call, and she wasn’t transparent about the policy of not bringing your own cake to the restaurant. When she saw us entering to the restaurant with the cake she told us about the policy in a rude way; at that moment I wanted to leave but we were already waiting for our 10 people party so we couldn’t change restaurant. Just for her costumer service I’m giving one star. If you don’t have good customer service, you have nothing. Regarding the food I ordered: -Onion soup (5/10) -Scargot (8/10) -Steak au poivre: (9/10) but the portion was really small. -Profiterole: (1/10) it was really dry and hard, i didnt finish it. Our server Theo was amazing, communicative and polite.
Portions are incredibly stingy especially considering the prices. We'd been wanting to try this place for years but they closed hours early the couple of times we tried to go. Moving on, we finally made it one evening, and I'm not a big eater at all but my husband and I ordered an appetizer, entres, and a desert and STILL left hungry. My entre bowl was literally less than halfway full and it was an unusually shallow bowl to begin with. The food was just ok. Manager stopped by to ask how everything was bc there was hardly anyone there at the time and said it was good but most customers aren't going to be honest about a complaint like that to their face. I'm sure I'll get a passive aggressive response from the restraunt seeing that's how they like to respond to complaints wich is beyond inappropriate, not to mention trashy and embarrassing for them. All I can say is I have never had such skimpy portions in a restaurant in my entire life. I honestly felt insulted. I was 6 months pregnant, (again, not a big eater even when pregnant), and we had to go home and pull out left overs. We were disgusted by how cheap they were with their portions and joked about how we should have gone to Wataburger instead. Never going back.
I came to this place as my friend recommended as a nice french restaurant with a good food. I ordered an onion soup and duck leg confit. Tried both dishes and was very disappointed. Cheese in soup was like a rubber, taste of soup wasnt good at all. Duck leg confit-meat was cooked well, rest of the dish was salty, so you cant even taste the flavour... So the price and quality not worth at all.
