El Dorado Mexican Restaurant is a local favorite known for its friendly atmosphere and accommodating staff, especially for large groups. Customers rave about the consistently good Tex-Mex food and fast service. Some find the salsa inconsistent and the building has an unusual smell.

Our go to no frills mexican restaurant. Fair pricing, prompt service, plenty of options.
Had such a nice experience here! The staff was very attentive and service was very fast. Had our food within 10-15 minutes of sitting down. Great food. Definitely recommend
Great experience! Food was amazing! Big menu with lots of original options! Will definitely come back.
Been going to El Dorado for over 20 years, great family restaurant, always excellent service, excellent Tex Mex, friendly staff
I have come to this restaurant since I was a teen and it only gets better! The spinach enchiladas are the best!
This past Wednesday evening a group of friends from the Clear Lake Bridge club decided to join my husband and me for an impromptu dinner at El Dorado's. With no reservations and no firm number, we just started showing up. The staff just kept moving tables and adding chairs until there were over twenty of us! They waiters moved quickly to refill chips and salsa, keep our orders straight, separate our individual checks and bring carry-out boxes. The menu is so extensive that everyone found a dish they enjoyed. The Happy Hour margaritas were a big hit. We were very well taken care of and THANK YOU, EL DORADO for a great last-minute fiesta!
Always a good meal, always a friendly atmosphere and anything goes on the menu. We’ve called El Dorado our place for decades. Never disappointed.
My group of local volunteers reserve a table now and then to enjoy dinner and the restaurant has always been very accommodating for our crowd. We stay a while since we hardly get to meet face to face and they wait on us graciously until we part. We love our meet ups at El Dorado!
Great food. Not too heavy or over seasoned. Service was great. My boys had Shrimp tacos, shrimp quesadilla and beef quesadilla.. their words "1 of the best ever "... I would like to note that there's an unusual smell when you walk in, old building smell perhaps... but give it time to get used to it... dont turn back... I know I almost did... its worth it for the food and service
This is a pretty unique restaurant compared to my usual dining spots. First of all, they have a massive menu; there are so many choices on the regular menu, including every combination of Mexican dishes (enchiladas, flautas, quesadillas, tacos, etc) you can think of. In addition, from 11:00-4:00 there is a two-sided lunch menu with even more dishes. I ordered the El Texano, a combo on the lunch menu with one fajita beef quesadilla, one fajita beef flauta, and rice and beans with guacamole and pico de gallon. The beef was tender and very tasty, and I really enjoyed my meal. My grandmother ordered Tacos al Carbon, which were also pretty good. The portions weren’t huge, but the food was fresh and of good quality, and I was still full afterwards. For dessert we tried the churros, which were probably the best churros I’ve ever had; they had cream on the inside, were hot when they came out, and were lighted dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The quiet, comfortable Tejano music in the background was a nice addition to the whole experience. Come to this unassuming location if you get the chance!
Food was hot. Service was good. I asked for extra Cilantro and was charged $2.20 and I asked for a scoop of sour cream for my quesadilla since it didnt come with anything and was charged another $2.20 for one spoon full. I would have been ok with a fifty cent charge but I could have walked next door to Kroger for a whole container of sour cream for under a buck and a whole bushel of cilantro for $0.38.... Businesses that penny pinch like this are also probably recycling chips and salsa. It's been over a year since my last visit and looks like I don't need to return.
Used to frequent this place twice a month as a teenager because my grandparents loved it and it was very close to home. Finally stopped by with my family of 4 and we were seated immediately. We had three different servers and they came by FREQUENTLY. It was hard to hold a conversation with my husband as they were always there talking to us. We decided on the taco plate for kids (#9) which came with a taco al carbon and refried beans and rice, the enchilada trio and I had the El Yanito. My kids wouldn’t touch their food, and after eating the beans, I realized that they were awful. Probably the worst refried beans I’ve ever had. My “fajita burrito” was covered in melted American cheese. Similar to Velveeta with nothing inside of the tortilla except for beef. It was about the quality you’d expect of Taco Cabana. The enchiladas all tasted the exact same in the trio despite stating on the menu that they were all different. The chips were not homemade and the salsa had not a hint of spice to it. It was very “tomato based”. Bathrooms were disgusting. I walked in and walked back out because the floor around the toilet had not been cleaned in years it looked like. The entire place needs a major remodel and facelift as it looks exactly how it used to almost 15 years ago and it showing its age. Definitely will not be back. The food hasn’t improved and there are just too many better options nearby.
Sent the food back after one bite. I expected frozen then deep fried but this was awful. Inedible. The "queso" was just melted velveeta in a small bowl for $10!!! Never going back. I can deep fry frozen crap at home.
Usually, this restaurant has been a place I truly enjoy. But today it turned into the worst experience I’ve ever had anywhere. We went in to celebrate my dad’s birthday, something very special to us, and what happened was beyond humiliating and deeply upsetting. Because they were busy, we decided we’d just enjoy our lunch and leave, skipping the birthday song. I had already told one of the waiters it was my dad’s birthday, but as we were getting ready to go, the man in the photo told us, “Hold on, we’re going to sing, don’t leave.” I thought that was thoughtful, and I said how nice it was. Then he came over with a plate of nothing but whipped cream and a cherry. I assumed it was just symbolic, like a stand-in for cake. But as they sang, this man suddenly smeared the cream into my dad’s face. At first, when he dabbed a little on his nose, I thought maybe it was meant to be playful, but then it escalated. He kept smearing more and more all over my dad’s face, even putting the cherry on his nose like a clown. My poor dad sat there completely horrified, and I was frozen in shock, unable to process what was happening. We left immediately, but the image of my dad’s face, covered in cream, humiliated in front of everyone, just kept replaying in my mind. What should have been a happy, loving memory of celebrating his birthday is now forever ruined by an act of thoughtless, unprofessional disrespect. This restaurant used to be one of my absolute favorites, but now it will only bring back awful memories. I will never return. The staff must be trained to understand boundaries, this kind of behavior is not playful, it’s humiliating. What happened was unacceptable, and it broke my trust completely.
Worst Mexican food I've ever had. I ordered fish tacos and they literally fried a piece of posh and put it on a flour tortilla. My husband had steak he didn't eat much of it, said it was gross. We're convinced the beans are canned. They had good chips n salsa. We took a few bites and left. Oh and there IS NO AC!!!!
I recently dined here, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. Our waiter started off by asking if we wanted skinny margaritas after we had already ordered waters. We politely declined, but he insisted, asking us if we were sure. It felt a bit pushy and set the tone for the rest of our meal. As for the food, it was quite frankly, awful. I ordered the enchiladas al carbon, and the beef fajita meat tasted like it had been boiled with absolutely no seasoning or flavor. To make matters worse, there was something inside the enchiladas that looked deep-fried, which was completely unappetizing. The refried beans on my plate looked like they had been roasted and were unappealing. When my plate arrived, it was scalding hot, so much so that I had to wait to eat my food because it was too hot to touch. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros, and her eggs came out hard-boiled instead of the soft-cooked eggs you’d expect. The onions on top were slimy, making the dish even less appealing. Overall, the food and service were far from what I expected. I won’t be returning and would not recommend this place if you’re looking for quality Mexican cuisine.
Unfortunately will not pay this establishment a visit anymore. For the quality of the food for the amount of money you pay for is unacceptable. To walk in a restaurant and pick up your order sitting down on the waiting seat area where other people sit there rear ends is unacceptable. Will be missing out on plenty of business.
