The server was so sweet and friendly. The atmosphere on the inside is so nice. The food was really good. I had the flautas and they were smoky and spicy which was a little bit different than traditional flautas. My husband had the enchiladas verdes and he said they were really good, he loved the lime accents of the chicken. My daughter had the beef enchiladas and she thought it was delicious. My husband and I also had a sangria and watermelon margarita and it was super refreshing. I also had the chocolate pie and it was super rich and delicious.
Any Tex-Mex place that is blasting Robert Earl Keen over the speakers and playing the Rockets on the bar TV is going to get a good review from me, no questions asked. I visited Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina for my brother in law's birthday dinner along with his fiancé, my wife and my mother and father in law and my oh my...did they deliver! Ron was our server and he provided outstanding customer service; refilling our drinks without us having to ask, not rushing us on our orders and delivering our food in a prompt and timely manner. For starters we ordered a large serving of guacamole with toasted pepitas, queso fresco and pickled onions. We should've ordered two because it was so delicious and didn't last more than five minutes between the six of us! For entrees we opted for the Parrillada Familiar and an additional order of 1/2 lb chicken fajitas. The Parrillada Familiar platter is THE WAY TO GO. It came with 1 lb of beef fajitas, one jalapeño cheddar cheese sausage, two Texas Quail, four Jumbo Gulf Shrimp and one 1/2 lb pork Carnitas. All of the meat was succulent and cooked to perfection. My favorite was the Texas Quail and I'm eager to come back and try the Texas Quail dinner platter in and of itself. We also ordered a bowl or Tortilla soup that looked delicious but, I did not try due to the outstanding spread of meat before. My wife said it was delicious though. To top this amazing dining experience off, Ron brought out a tres leches cake with a birthday candle for the Birthday boy. Five star review well earned. I'll be back. You can bet on that.
This is such a nice atmosphere. The food is great. Our server was amazing! There is plenty of parking but space fill up quickly. The bf and I came on a Friday night around 7:15 and there was quite a line. Our wait was 45 minutes but my smart bf saw he could reserve a table for two online with a 30-minute way so we did that. Lovely atmosphere, excellent for a date or family dinner, maybe a bit loud for intimate conversations but the vibe is nice. The chips were excellent and the salsa was not too spicy which I prefer. I ordered the carnitas plate which consisted of delicious chunks of pork, served with rice, empanada (yum!), beans, tortillas. By themselves, the carnitas was tasty and well-seared, but a bit under-seasoned for my taste. My bf ordered the redfish I believe and he really enjoyed it. I'd love to come back to try other dishes. Our server was so friendly. I really liked her but didn't catch her name. She was all smiles. Overall, a great experience.
I really enjoyed my experience here on Mother’s day. They were not over crowded and the food was tasty. We started with queso and chips as an appetizer. You can see the generous portion! The chips that come with the queso are different than the chips that come to your table that everyone gets... nice touch. Good sized portion, plenty to eat. Good service. Equals a great experience. Definitely coming back here when I’m in town.
If you are a fan of Goode Co (which I am) you will love it. Has a little bit of seafood and taqueria along with additional items. Chips and Salsa when you sit down, excellent service and the food was perfect (and consistent). We eat and the Taqueria often and tried the Kitchen for the first time and were happy to have another place to add to the list. We went at lunch- parking was a bit of a hassle, but we did go at noon..... We both had the Tacos al Carbon - chicken and beef and both were fantastic. Served a little different here than at the Taqueria, they have a fajita set up- sour cream, cheese alongside.
Absolutely 💯 the top shelf of Mexican Restaurants this part of Earth. But they can't spell. There is no silent e in the word GOOD. The cuisine is not just good . . . it's G-r-e-a-t. Add an "E" to the end of that, Tony the tiger! Now, it may be (possibly) the owner was't much of an English major. Possibly flunked 2nd grade. May have had a ruthless teacher who only gave attention to her students who brought apples. Or him. Or they. Or the owner stayed away from school focusing on cooking instead. Or outsourced the branding and logo to their youngest child. Who knows. Just know this is the place you need to add to your bucket list. This place, the Eiffel Tower, Gand Canyon, Bora Bora, or Taj Mahal. In any case, none of these places have this level of Te -mex.
Tex-mex the Texan way - try the salads if you get a chance - I crave them - also this is an edited review because I want to add the old number seven combination plate - it is amazing - they will make it with a ground beef enchilada raw onions on top and it comes with a Chalupa refried beans and crispy taco topped with avocado slice - heaven - the Old no 7 sample platter is also very good
Went here for a quick bite with the wifey and we enjoyed it. We went on Saturday evening around 8PM. We were just getting appetizers so we sat in the bar address and were seated right away. Chips and salsa were good and came almost immediately. Server came and got drink order pretty quickly too. For the apps, we got the empanadas, taquitos and queso and all were tasty. Food came out pretty quickly and we enjoyed everything. Atmosphere was nice and lively. Large TV playing the Astros game. Only complaint mighty be parking situation. Spots are a little tight and they deserve a lot for the valet. We were able to find a spot, but could see it being tough if it was busier.
I am a big fan of all things Goode Co., and the Kitchen and Cantina is no exception. My husband and I went for an early lunch after church, and it was perfect in every way. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the decor is a beautiful tribute to Texas and Mexico! The food was beyond delicious, and the service top-notch! We ordered guacamole to start, and it was excellent. I highly recommend it! We also tried their tacos al carbon, cheese enchiladas, and tamales. Everything was amazing. We will definitely go back soon!
Wow! Outstanding. My favorite Texas BBQ joint opened a Mexican cantina and it did NOT disappoint. Margaritas were fresh and tasty. Good selection of draft and bottled Mexican beers. Tortilla chips were crisp and warm and the salsa was fresh and smoky. Very nice. Everyone cleaned their plates. Food was excellent. I liked the homage (intentional or coincidental) to Geuro’s Taco Bar in Austin with the No.2 special - a fajita steak taco, chicken enchilada and a tamale. The go-to Texas plate. Great service and not unreasonably priced. A good time overall.
This was my first time here for dinner. I had the cucumber, tomato salad with grilled shrimp and they cooked the shrimp in butter for me. The salad was large and quite flavorful. Their Mojito was also very good! The hostess and wait staff were very friendly. It was raining that evening and the restaurant was quite busy. It would be helpful if they had a bridge connecting the side parking lot to their main parking lot.
So delicious and fresh, and our server was the most kind and attentive I’ve experienced in a while. I think his name was Edmundo. Fish tacos were delicious, chips and salsa were super fresh, beer was ice cold and the miche was fire. As a Hispanic man, I’m pretty picky about rice, especially of a Hispanic nature. This rice was absolutely spot on in both texture and flavor. Beans were too. Everything was delicious. Margarita was just right as well! Edmundo was the star though. I left my backpack by mistake. It had a laptop and some very important items in it. He chased me down in the parking lot to give it to me. This guy saved me that day! Employee of the month, y’all. It’s this kind of service that separates good establishments from great ones.
This place is always amazing! Great environment and even better food. I usually order a carafe of Dame Goode Margarita, guacamole(bacon, garlic & pickled onions) and their carnitas with corn tortilla! You cannot go wrong! Oh...do not forget the tres leches. Don't forget to use Open Table to reserve your spot the day before.
Great local spot from the Goode Company family. Very solid TexMex. Everything on the menu is good. My typical gotos are chicken enchiladas, beef enchiladas, carnitas, and tortilla soup. Margarita wise go for the Cadillac and ask for less ice and then only add part of the Grand Marnier floater … makes for a less sweet and more palatable margarita in my opinion.
Excellent, delicious food! Everything was exactly as ordered. The service was above and beyond the service you would expect to receive at a 5 star restaurant. Kenya, our server was EXCEPTIONAL! Thank you Kenya! It was very busy but the atmosphere was still nice. The service was outstanding. The food was up there with the very Best. We already know what we want to try next time. This was our first time trying Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina and it surpassed what we expected. Great!
The food here was pretty good. I would say it’s better than Pappasito’s. But not as good as fajita Pete’s. We ordered the chicken quesadilla, the Carne Asada, and the beef fajitas with guacamole. Tres Leches for desert. I would rate the nine out of 10 . Out of four or five though The server was nice, and the ambience was quiet. Good for a casual setting. Was 200$ for 5 people who ate a lot.
This food is SO good. The queso is delicious. You are served chips and a warm, roasted red salsa, one of the best I have ever had! I loved the chicken flauta and the beef fajitas. There is something special about the cheese on the enchiladas and tamales. We also had a very good margarita. Our waiter Jose was very kind and helpful
Goode Co. Cantina was truly an experience — and one I won’t forget anytime soon. The customer service here is absolutely next level. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth, professionalism, and such great energy from the staff. Everyone was attentive, helpful, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do — and that makes a huge difference. One heads-up: the wait can be long — even if it’s just you and one other person. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, otherwise you’re left hoping for a spot at the bar (which, to be fair, is a nice vibe if you get lucky). But trust me — don’t just show up and expect to be seated quickly, especially during dinner hours. The restaurant itself is beautiful, modern, and very clean. Everything was super well-kept and had a great ambiance — whether you’re on a date, out with friends, or just exploring Houston’s food scene. Now for the food: I ordered a salad, and it blew me away. It was full of rich flavor and unexpected little pairings that complemented each other perfectly. You can tell they put thought and care into each ingredient — not just your typical “throw it in a bowl” salad. The menu seemed really well-crafted, and the portions were great too. And just to add to the uniqueness of the night — while we were eating, a bad thunderstorm rolled in and the restaurant actually lost power! But even then, the staff handled it with so much grace and professionalism. They kept everything running as smoothly as possible, still checking in on us, still keeping the vibe light. It honestly didn’t even take away from the experience. That kind of calm under pressure says a lot about the management and team. Overall, I’m really glad I went — it was a cool experience and a great place to try once. For me personally, it may not be a regular spot I return to, but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out with great service, great food, and a lively Houston atmosphere.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant! I worked at the Mason Jar a few years before it closed and I was pleasantly surprised with the transformation into Goode Co. The brick columns still line the window and brought back so many memories. We arrived just before the after-church crowd and enjoyed a wonderful brunch - La Guisada and Migas with a Cold Brew to wash it down. Everything was packed with flavor, not too spicy, and made with fresh ingredients making this one of my new favorite spots. Our server, Amy, was able to take good care of us while also serving a 10-top, giving us the time to enjoy our food with only a few interruptions for drink refills and table clearing. I'm looking forward to going back for the dinner experience.
Our server, Alejandro, was top notch. He was attentive and very patient. His suggestions were spot on. Our food was excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly. The blueberry pecan pancakes were such a yummy treat! Don't forget to try the lemonades, we got one of each and were not disappointed. For dessert we tried the churros and Tres Leches cake both delicious!!!! I highly recommend, and will definitely go back!
I really enjoyed my visit to Goode Co. Cantina on I-10! The salad and tortilla soup were both fantastic, and the avocado was soooo yummy — fresh and flavorful. The only challenge was parking, since the lot (and even the extra spaces) were completely full. I had to wait for someone to leave before I could get a spot. Once inside, though, the food made up for it, and I’d happily come back again.
Exceptional food. All the recipes taste home made. No overly seasoned food. Large portions. Great service. On the down side...the sopapillas left nothing to be desired. The dough was over working and not left to rest before the dough was cut. That item needs work. Sopapillas are supposed to be light, soft and billowing. These were hard, stiff and hard to chew. Ill try another dessert next time.
Mexican dining elevated. Service and atmosphere: This is very modern and stylish restaurant with great references to Mexico throughout. They offer many seating options. There is also outside patio space to enjoy in the evening. The restaurant has swanky bar area at the entrance. Food and drinks: They have well designed menu with many familiar Mexican dishes and drinks. The food was prepared very well and was nicely presented as well. Good flavours and seasoning gave this Tex Mex food extra depth. Without going into too much details, both dishes were ordered were very tasty. Pricing: $$/$$$ and definitely worth it to come back here for more delicious food
I came here with a large group and had an excellent experience. The food is great, as you would expect from a Goode Co restaurant. The tortillas were fresh and the fajitas were excellent and came with empanadas - a very nice treat, although it makes you want to order more empanadas (they're too good to share multiple ways). I also like that the fajitas also come with baby onions. Also, we preferred the refried beans over the charro beans, so be sure to ask for your preference. The only slight downside is that parking isn't always great here. This place is also on the pricey side. Once you're here, though, they'll treat you well.
It was packed on a Wednesday night. The parking lot was full, but I got lucky as someone was pulling out. I saw people walking over from across the street where they had to park. Our server was really nice and attentive, and the food was good. I can't say it was phenomenal, but very solid. They stay busy for a reason.
One of the best Tex-Mex spots in Houston! Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina hits the mark every time. The food is absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and full of that bold Texas flair. I ordered the Parrillada Familiar, and it was incredible. Everything on the platter was perfectly grilled, well-seasoned, and loaded with flavor. It’s definitely a great choice if you’re hungry or sharing with friends or family. The queso was rich and addicting, and the margaritas were top-notch—strong, fresh, and just what you want with a meal like this. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a modern Texas vibe that makes you feel right at home. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. Whether you’re grabbing a casual lunch, celebrating with family, or just craving really good Tex-Mex, this place is a solid go-to. Highly recommend giving it a try—you won’t leave disappointed! Let me know how you liked it.
Goode Co. Cantina never disappoints—everything on the menu is delicious! But the real standout for me is the 1836 Salad. I always substitute beef fajita for the chicken, and it’s absolutely incredible. The flavors are unique and complement each other so well—it’s fresh, satisfying, and packed with bold Tex-Mex flavor. I honestly crave this salad on a regular basis. Great food, great service, and a go-to spot for consistently amazing meals!
Had a wonderful birthday dinner here! Great food, and fantastic service. Our server Rogelio was so wonderful!
We are huge Goode Co Cantina fans! The food is excellent, and so is the service. Keep it up!!
Best carnitas in Houston. Great atmosphere and superior service. Thank you, Melissa for the great service. Beautiful smile!
Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina are masterful at Mexican cuisine and fellowship space. Nachos, cheese enchiladas and Tres leches cake are enough to share! Thank you for a relaxing evening.
I never knew Mexican food could taste so good. Surely a Michelin star restaurant. Beef fajitas taco el carbon is a delicacy top among the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. Salsa verde was extraordinary. Churros were sensational with crispy outside and gooey inside. Truly unique. Going back soon.
Wonderful experience and excellent food! Service was top notch and was a great way to end our evening of shopping. 10/10 we will definitely be back.
Elmer O was our sever for our friends bday tonight. He was very attentive and sweet! Ask for him when you come in his service was great. Thank you so much I can’t wait to be back!
This is probably the best Mexican food I have ever had. The chips are perfect. The salsa is amazing and so different. It is made with fire roasted tomatoes and served hot. It is so amazing. I want to drink it from a straw. I got the beef enchiladas. Best I have ever had. Wait staff were amazing.
Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina is a great place to dine at, the food is excellent and the service is always exceptional. I personally love their Enchiladas with chilli gravy, but you can't go wrong with any selection!
This place needs to be closer to 4.8 stars in my opinion. They have fantastic regular Tex mex items but in addition to that they have some authentic Mexican touches to the menu like the shredded chicken pieces in the rice, mole bitters in some of the cocktails, house made corn and flour tortillas and fresh chicharrones off the menu. This is a signature Houston Tex mex staple.
Best beef fajitas and margaritas in Houston! This time I ordered something different off the menu and it was also delicious! Easily my favorite Mexican place in Houston.
Demaciado bueno
Excelente lugar
Where to start! My Birthday is Dec 17! Since we celebrate all month Goode Co. Cantina was my first choice for our first weekend celebrations. Now i have been here several times at lunch with the coworkers. I was a little hesitant in bringing my husband who is not a fan of Tex-Mex. Once arrived WE had an absolutely wonderful experience . The food was exceptional — every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented. The ambiance was just as impressive: warm, inviting, and perfectly suited for the occasion. A special GRACIAS! to our waiter, Peter, who made the evening even better. He was attentive without being intrusive, incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely friendly. His service elevated the entire dining experience. Highly recommend this place — we’ll definitely be coming back!

Houston has another Mexican restaurant and I am not mad... Love the Goode company restaurant chains. So this was a no brainer to come try... Went for brunch which is over at noon but they were more than accommodating to service use some eggs and pancakes... Love the vibe and the decor of the restaurant... My food was satisfying but lack flavor as far as the fajitas... I enjoyed the chorizo and potatoes... My daughter enjoyed her chocolate chip pancakes which was covered with chocolate... Looking forward to returning and trying some other selections from the menu...
My girlfriend liked the food but said it's a bit overpriced. I agree completely. It's a really nice place for a date since it has good ambiance. It just happens to lean toward the expensive side when you think about Mexican food. Anyhow, I probably wouldn't go back if I had the choice. It was a good one-time experience.
This new location is in the perfect location. The enchiladas and tacos turned out to be very tasty. The margaritas are good. Try the top shelf if you visit. We ordered the table side guacamole and didn’t get it made table side. It came already made, which was not what I expected.
For all you Houstonians who remember The Mason Jar, it is now Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina. Not every restaurant can be a 5 star experience, but this one was very close. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't give a full 5. The space has been beautifully remodeled with lots of windows and a nice Mexican flare. There is a decent sized bar at the entrance with several tables lining the outer perimeter. The main dining area, separate from the bar, has table and booth seating options. The restaurant itself is not very big, but they do a good job with the space available. It is a shotgun style structure, so you can see the entire dining area from any table. First off, the service was fantastic! We were well taken care of and never had empty drinks, chips or salsa. Margaritas, chips and salsa are so important for a good Mexican restaurant. This is why I am only giving 4 stars. I wasn't "wowed" on these items. The "Damn Good Margarita" was more sweet tasting than tart and didn't seem to be very strong. They serve them in a regular pint style glass. I was surprised it wasn't in a Mexican style glass. The chips are thin and crispy with a light coating of salt. The red salsa is warm and smokey with a slight sweet undertone. It's not the best salsa I've ever had, but it was better after I added a little salt to the dip cup. GCK&C has verde salsa upon request. Not a fan of this salsa since I prefer the creamier green salsa, but others at the table enjoyed it. For my meal, I ordered the No. 2 plate. It comes with one Enchilada, one taco al carbon, one tamale, rice and beans. I was able to substitute the tamale for a crispy ground beef taco. I wanted a plain cheese enchilada, but I was served a chicken enchilada instead. I did not send it back because I think the confusion was on my part. I didn't communicate well at the start of my order. It was good, but it wasn't what I originally wanted. Again, not our servers fault. The crispy beef taco was in a delicious shell. It was the best crispy taco I have ever eaten. Many times, those type items get soggy, but this one stayed crispy and it was filled with a good amount of tasty toppings. The beef fajita taco al carbon was seasoned well and rolled in a flour tortilla. I only had one bite since I was full, so I get to enjoy leftovers for lunch today. The rice and beans were okay. My rice had some hard pieces in it and the beans didn't have much flavor. I don't typically eat more than one bite of beans, so it wasn't a huge deal personally. I was more disappointed in the rice. All in all, I would go back to GCK&C. I loved the atmosphere, the music they played, the service, the portions are large and the meal itself was good. I know how to doctor the salsa to fit my tastebuds and next time I would get a higher quality margarita.
Hadn't been here before but have been to many Mexican Food restaurants all around Houston and Texas so I consider myself somewhat an expert in this cuisine. Have to say, Goode Co. is probably my new favorite. It would be 5 stars all around if it weren't for the price and just a few lacking food quality issues. I would consider Good Co. to be more boutique Tex-Mex so if that is not your thing you may not enjoy it. Now on to the food - While everything we had was terrific the prices are a little too high to earn a complete 5 stars. The tortillas were freshly hand made (nice touch) but just slightly undercooked. That doesn't bother me too much b/c they were thicker than you usually get around town and were soft and doughy which I like. Most other places are thin and chewy which is no good. The tamales were wonderful but also a little under stuffed. I like to taste the filling but that was really just in the middle of the tamale and not really spread throughout. I get it, tamales can be difficult to get that masa/filling just right. Everything else was perfect, from the rice to the charro beans, the cheese enchiladas just melted in your mouth - perfectly done. I love that they give you the fried tortillas chips with the queso as well. The empanadas were delicious. The deserts were a nice way to round out the meal although by that time I was completely stuffed. The atmosphere is terrific - the restaurant was clean and the decor is spot on. Our server was probably one of the best I have had in a while. She was very attentive and also very friendly. The bar is stocked with some of the best tequilas there are and they have a wide selection of bourbon and other spirits as well. I am kind of nitpicking here b/c the overall experience was 5 stars but hey, nothing is perfect. It will be a spot I frequent when I am looking for a quality meal or a special occasion experience.
Like all Goode Co restaurants, the service was outstanding. Fish tacos & guac were delicious!
The food and service were good. Our food was brought to us very quickly.
We routinely order from this spot and visit in person, and the food is consistently good. The staff are generally friendly, though every now and then a host or hostess can come off a bit snooty. On our most recent lunch visit, we were asked if we’d be willing to share a long table. My friend and I were planning to discuss some sensitive topics, so we declined, and were then told it would be a 45-minute wait. Even though several tables appeared open, we were informed they were all reserved. We ended up taking a bar table with the uncomfortable wooden stools for our two-hour lunch. I still recommend this place—the waitstaff are kind and the food remains reliable—but I have to ask: why are the bathroom stalls pitch black? It’s impossible to tell whether the space is clean without pulling out your phone and using the flashlight. I genuinely don’t understand the design choice.
Really impressed with this place! Food was quite nice- most "tex-mex or mexican" restaurants leave the simple things like rice and beans as an afterthought. Not here! The rice had obvious signs of flavor and care cooked in with the addition of chicken and vegetables throughout. The beans- only tried the "charro" version- were even better with lots of flavors and spice. The rest of the food was as nice as one would expect when such care was taken of the sides. Waitstaff and bar staff were friendly and very helpful. Hope to return soon
Good food! 1836 salad is a favorite. Enchiladas too. Kids and grownups like the chips and salsa. Tables turnover pretty quickly so we never seem to wait long to sit down.
Delicious quesadillas and queso. Great staff!
Yum! Guacamole, carnitas, tacos al carbón. Awesome.
Me gustó mucho
Overall, ok place for a meal, but was not blown away. The restaurant area was open and clean. They have a fair amount of seating. Parking is tight at higher times, but they have complementary valet. That is a nice plus. They have seating indoors in the main dining area including a bench table for communal seating if desired. There is seating at the bar and the patio as well. The food quality was just ok. Chicken was dry and the food a little bland. The Poblano soup was not good, tasing mainly of corn with very little poblano flavor. The entrees were a bit pricy for what one received. Seemed like they were trying to cut costs on the food. The service was ok. However, one waited a bit for things. Had to ask for silverware to eat as it didn’t come with the meal. The bathroom areas were spacious and clean. Very well kept. Overall I had expected a little more from Goode Company. I would say a high 3 star, but not a 4 star.
1st time here. Thought we'd try a new Mexican restaurant in the area (new to us). Stopped in for dinner, there was a wait to be seated so we opted to sit/eat in the bar area. The atmosphere was family/friends and was nice. It took awhile to get chips/salsa and place our drink order. Our waiter was nice, but didn't really provide options. For example, I ordered a margarita and it had a salt rim when it arrived and then I asked if they had Tajin. I was fine with what he brought, and he even brought back an empty glass with Tajin on the rim, so that was nice, but I've been to other places where they ask when your placing your drink order. Again....first impressions. We ordered fajitas and asked for beef, chicken and shrimp. We only received chicken. The food was decent, but honestly, I've had better fajitas at other restaurants. This place was packed, so maybe I'm just missing what the fuss is all about. We'll give it another try and order something different, it just seemed expensive for what we ordered and the food wasn't the BEST I've ever had.
honestly, nothing out of this world. i got the tamales & they tasted like the frozen tamales you can get at the grocery store. rather get a dozen from the tamal lady for the same price but much better taste. also the water did taste like tap water. although the service was good & friendly waiter but other than that, probably wont come back.
As always the food and drinks were great but the services wasn’t very accommodating. We booked a reservation for 4 at 6:15, we also stated that we had 2 children (3yr old & 11month old). We get there at least 10 min early and we requested that we would need a highchair and booster. Well the hostess decided to put us in a booth that doesn’t accommodate high chairs. When I asked why he said because it would block the isle and is a safety hazard. I explained to him that we needed a highchair and asked if we could sit a table, he told me that we would have to wait an hour for a table. That really pissed me off when I stated when we walked in early asked for a highchair and stated on the reservation that we needed a highchair. They gave us two booster seats and it did not go well. My 11 month almost fell out of the booster twice! Sitting in a booth with a squirmy baby is not fun! Probably won’t be going back for awhile.
Don’t know how the food was because I never made it to the table. I was originally excited about booking a reservation to try this place out. Upon arrival with my wife and 1 year old I was told we could sit outside because the reserved table inside could not seat our 1 year old. It’s 98 degrees in Houston right now so asked if there was another option or if we could wait. Was told it would be 1.5 hours if we wanted to stick around for a table. Guess our reservation didn’t mean much, Felt like there could have been more done here but oh well…
This was at least my tenth time visiting the Cantina on the I-10 Freeway in Hedwig Village. Went there on 5 August. I must say that our family likes the atmosphere, and this time the service was fast and attentive. But the quality of the food was really poor. I think it is the kitchen staff cutting corners and just not doing it right. For example, the guacamole was tasteless. The crab meat enchilada entree was horrible, because there was no crab inside and the cheese sauce on top was chewy. No flavor. The table salsa was bland, the tortilla chips were not seasoned, and the margaritas were weak. The other problem is the noise level after 1830 pm. They have many big long tables for parties and large groups. The noise can be unreal when the loud cowboys try to outshout each other. And the cackling women too. My family decided not to go again, but if we do it will be maybe twice a year and only for a few of the appetizers. Maybe takeout?
Hostess gal (probably 18-23 year old) should learn to read the room. While it’s often that you walk into an establishment and check wait times, rarely do you hear an employee at a nice restaurant wait until the customer leaves to say, “crazy white people, white people, white people” as a white guy is 2’ away! She was rude when they asked about the wait too. What a conflict to have fantastic food with an arrogant employee. One bad apple ruins it for the rest of the team, what a shame.
Absolutely nothing was good. The service was slow, we had to ask for napkins and utensils 3Xs, and this was *after* the food came out. Our food was cold by the time we went and got cutlery from inside. They never filled up our water. The "Carnitas" was six chunks of dry flavorless meat that looked like potatoes The tortilla soup was a thick, dark brown liquid with chicken that had limp, sad-looking garnishes on the side. The frijoles a la charro tasted like old bacon. The only upside was that the outside patio was lovely and the weather was perfect.
Ordered well done beef fajita taco - comes out partially pink. Ordered a chicken fajita taco - comes out pork (fatty too). Very disappointing. I didn’t say anything but I won’t be back. The food flavor is very meh anyway.
