Forget stuffy fine dining - Jun is upscale like a well-worn cashmere sweater, comfortable and chic with an edge. You can practically taste the passion in the open kitchen, where Chef Evelyn Garcia (Top Chef Houston finalist) crafts plates that are as much art as they are food. I devoured the roasted carrots, bathed in honey and kissed with rosemary - a symphony on a plate. Then, the fried chicken. Oh, the fried chicken! Golden perfection, juicy enough to weep for, the crust a whisper of spice that dances on your tongue. Trust me, you need this bird in your life. But Jun isn't just about à la carte hits. Their monthly tasting menus are culinary adventures, themed masterpieces that change like Houston weather. One month, it's a fiery ode to Sichuan peppercorns, the next, a delicate waltz of French influences. Often, Chef Garcia collaborates with fellow culinary geniuses, making each experience a unique dialogue on a plate. The Verdict: Jun is more than a restaurant; it's an experience. It's the clinking of glasses against the backdrop of laughter, the buzz of conversation punctuated by the sizzle of the kitchen, and the pure joy of really, really good food. It's Houston haute cuisine without the attitude, a place where Chef Garcia's talent shines as bright as the neon lights of the Heights. Tip: Snag a seat at the counter for front-row access to the kitchen's magic show. And for the love of all things delicious, do not miss the tasting menu. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.

QUICK REVIEW - 🤯 🥂 🍤 🍲 🍛 💪🏾 🤤 A Masterclass in melding a myriad of flavors and textures through the expert use of flavorful sauces THE BREAKDOWN Spiced Peanuts - A wonderful flavorful crunch to start the experience Shrimp Ceviche - the aguachile, shrimp oil was something special think ULTRA PONZU; This was my favorite presentation of the night Beef Tartare - The buñuelo is what took this to the next level. It added a beauty to the presentation and delicious crunch; The citronette in the tartare made this dish feel light & balanced Squash with eggplant sauce - This was the surprise of the night. The chili lime sauce on the plate was SO DELICIOUS. The texture of the squash was an unexpected crunch that the meal needed. Inspired to try different preparations with squash this summer Grits with Carne Seca - PURE comfort in a bowl Salmon with oolong tea broth - Best bite of the night. The salmon was sous vide and torched to perfection. Loved it. But the star was the broth. I had a bite with oolong tea and mushroom that was the best bite of the night hands down. I could drink that broth in massive quantities Lamb Curry - Chef Evelyn always DOMINATED On Top Chef when she made curry and I see why. This was so flavorful. Plus, it wouldn’t be a Houston meal without a SLAB of meat 🤣 Pops’ favorite! He was looking at it crazy when it came out but kept talking about it on the way home. WINE - You can tell the wine list was curated with care. There were a wide variety of options that would be fun to pair with the wide variety of flavors on the menu. PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE

This was a magical experience all around! We dined here for the first time to celebrate my wife’s birthday and had the Chef’s tasting menu. Every dish was a triumph: from the gulf shrimp aguachile, to the tartare, the sous vide salmon, the filet. Perfect balance of bold flavor with the right amount of heat and a sprinkle of surprise in each dish. Then to end the night with a dessert like the tapioca with the passion fruit panna cotta. That dessert makes it worthwhile to drive to Jun to order it alone. The service was warm, attentive and friendly. We got to seat with a view to the kitchen so we have a list of dishes we’d like to try on our next visit. Jun is in the top tier of restaurants in Houston and you should put it on your list to try soon.

An Unforgettable Culinary Experience in Houston I finally had the pleasure of dining at a remarkable restaurant that truly left a lasting impression. Every aspect of this dining experience, from the inviting ambiance and nostalgic music (Super Grupo Mazz) to the attentive service, culminated in a delightful journey for the senses. However, it was the extraordinary food that stole the show, transporting me to a world of distinct flavors and culinary mastery. Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately felt enveloped in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The interior was tastefully decorated, with a perfect balance of modern elegance and comfort. The soft, mellow lighting created an intimate ambiance that was ideal for a memorable evening. Adding to the overall charm was the carefully curated playlist of enigmatic tunes that filled the air, setting the mood for an unforgettable experience. The staff at this restaurant truly went above and beyond to ensure that every need was addressed promptly and with a genuine smile. From the moment we were seated, their attentiveness (the owner) and knowledge of the menu (Mason our server) were evident. Our server, Mason expertly guided us through the extensive selection of dishes, providing insightful recommendations and answering any inquiries we had. Their impeccable service added an extra touch of class to the already exceptional dining experience. Now, let's talk about the main highlight of the evening – the food! Every dish showcased an impressive blend of creativity, quality ingredients, and masterful cooking techniques. The menu has a diverse range of options, each carrying its own distinct flair. From the moment the first dish arrived, it was evident that the chefs are true artists in the kitchen. The flavors burst in our mouths with each bite, leaving us yearning for more. From the perfectly balanced Shrimp Aguachile in the perfect amount of lime and avocado, not to overpower the shrimp. To the perfectly crisped fried chicken served with a ginger honey to drizzle just enough to balance everything out, every dish was a harmonious symphony of flavors. The presentation was equally impressive, each plate and cup used is specially made for Jun from the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, meticulously crafted with an artistic eye. The restaurant's dedication to sourcing local, seasonal ingredients was evident, as the flavors seemed to reflect the essence of the region. If you haven't been to Jun yet, do not miss the opportunity to indulge in this culinary haven. Your taste buds will thank you.

Great experience here! Adored the shrimp dish the most. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and I could probably drink the oyster sauce any day. Super fresh ingredients! I just wish they put less seasoning on the fish so it’s freshness could shine through more. Nigori sake was delicious and so were the cocktails.

This might be the first time I've ever described a meal as a revelation, but that is the only word I can think of to describe the unique and delicious way the food and ingredients blended together here. The amount of flavor in every dish and every bite was insane, and each bite seemed to be more flavorful than the one before. Not only was this the best meal my wife or I had ever eaten, but Top Chef Houston runner-up Evelyn Garcia greeted us at the door and was the friendliest celebrity that we have met and made us feel like family. Helena may have been a little starstruck, and Evelyn was gracious enough to sit and take a few photos. What an amazing dining experience! Wow, just wow! We will be frequent guests!

For those of you looking for a chef-driven restaurant, try JUN in Houston. Chef Evelyn Garcia from "Top Chef Houston" has created a wonderful experience of Salvadorian and Asian blended dishes. We tried the GULF SHRIMP (aguachile, avocado, taro, shrimp oil) which was amazing! Side dishes were CARROTS (everything salsa macha, salvadorian cheese, quail egg), SWEET POTATO (labneh, walnuts, dill, chive) and CAULIFLOWER (eggplant, black garlic, yogurt, hazelnut). She had us try the MUSSELS which I usually dont like but these were incredible. Main entrees were the BRANZINO and the BRISKET (peanut curry, sesame oil, mustard greens, lotus root) and both were amazing as well. Also the COCONUT RICE in JASMINE LEAF was great. Dessert was a ginger lychee sorbet and Goat Cheese Cheesecake. For the drinks, I had a Carajillo with orange flavors. The ambience was great as both she and her partner came around to the tables many times. Located off 610 and North Main in the Heights, this is a treat that should be experienced.

A unique take on asian-american dishes with wine inspired cocktails. Jūn is a quaint place to have a date night, enjoy good food, and the ambiance. Make a reservation before hand. Some of items on the menu come from the Chefs family farm in El Salvador. Pork ribs, scallops, and gulf shrimp are awesome. Enjoy 😉

Outstanding!!! Miguel was the manager extremely friendly. Steven was our server he was very personal and knowledgeable... And we got to meet Evelyn, one of their amazing chefs ...

Wow. What an incredible experience. I like ordering things I don’t think I could ever make and this was basically the ENTIRE menu at Jūn. The balance of flavors, the beautiful charred carrots, the delicate tea flavor of the salmon, the surprising sourness of the quail egg on the carrots ... my mouth is watering just talking about it! Don’t sleep on those carrots. Everything was amazing and I can’t speak more highly of the ambience, decor that was so thoughtfully placed, and professionalism of the staff. I’ll be back to try the rest of the phenomenal menu!

Jūn is a New Asian American restaurant from Chef Evelyn Garcia and Chef Henry Lu. The menu is diverse and has a little bit of everything. It has a peaceful ambiance and beautiful interior. They offer incredible and friendly service. If you're driving, they have a free private parking lot in the front. [COCKTAILS] +Open Sesame (sparkling junmai saké, toasted black sesame, lime, and yuzu tonic) for $15 - This cocktail was very refreshing and had a unique taste of sesame. As it's made with sake, it's quite light. I enjoyed it and would recommend trying it. - 4.5/5 [ZERO-PROOF COCKTAILS] +Ginger She Hot (agave blanco spirit, ginger, thai basil, lime, and sparkling water) for $12 - This mocktail tasted fresh like sparkling ginger, and I liked how cold it was. - 4/5 [FOOD] +Sweet Potato (labneh, walnuts, dill, and chives) for $10 - This was my favorite item on their food menu. The sweet potato sat on spread labneh. It was a really nice combination. - 4.5/5 +Oysters (fermented mango, pickled butter, and mignonette) for $12 - The fermented mango was a different topping I have never had on an oyster before. The oysters themselves looked like they were slightly seared, but they were still raw. Although served on ice, they felt like room temperature. These were interesting, and I would recommend trying them out at least once. - 4/5 +Fried Chicken (shrimp paste, ginger, thai chili, and herbs) for $23 (or $39 for a full chicken) - The fried chicken was good. I wish it had more flavor, but that's why they give you sauce to drizzle on it. You have to use a lot of sauce to taste anything though. The sauce is slightly spicy. For me, I need more flavor, but this may hit you differently. - 4/5 +House-Made Pickles for $6 - We were told this assortment of pickled items were good with the fried chicken. It comes with cauliflower, strawberries, and I believe... cucumber? The pickled strawberries were really interesting to bite into. It was still somewhat sweet like a strawberry, but juicy in a pickled way. - 4/5 Overall, I really liked Jūn and think it's a nice addition to the Heights collection of unique restaurants. The cocktails were great, and the exploration with the food items was excellent. It would be fun to try out their new items as they reinvent the menu as time goes on. I would recommend Jūn if you're in an adventurous mood!

Jun is a true gem. My wife and I have been regulars for a while now, and every visit is a delight. The food is consistently exceptional — fresh ingredients are clearly a priority, and it shows in every dish. We especially love trying their seasonal offerings, which are always creative and delicious. The staff is warm and welcoming from the moment we walk in, and the service is attentive without being overbearing. Jun has become one of our favorite spots, and we always look forward to our next visit.

Incredible spot in Houston with fantastic service! Fried cornbread?! It was amazing. I’ve never had it fried at a smaller size where you really get the fried taste in every bite. Congee and scallops are a must get… but a close second are the pork ribs!

Wonderful restaurant. Food was great. We tried the Chef’s tasting menu. Delicious dishes each time although the wait was long. Highly recommend not ordering it if you have to be somewhere within 2 hours. But still a great experience and recommended. The cocktails, namely the scarlet letter, are worth ordering. Amazing, please try the scarlet letter. We loved the atmosphere. It can get a little loud but we felt we had a good feel for privacy. We were seated at the back, a nice little spot for two. Service was great as well. They even gave us a signed card for my fiancé and I’s anniversary. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Definitely a place we would love to come to again.

My wife and I dined at Jūn to celebrate my birthday. We arrived and received what to me was the best seat in the house. A spot where you can watch the kitchen preparing the food. Keith provided fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service. All the food was delicious but what surprised me the most was how much I enjoyed the carrots.

Evelyn García has finally opened up her restaurant and it's beautiful. Kallan was great, as she recommended good dishes and made sure we had a good time. The shrimp aguachile was great, though not ideal for sharing. It's so tasty and has so many different textures, but it's relatively small. Next time we'll get one for each of us! The sweet potato was great, but the roasted carrots with Salvadoran cheese were such a wonderful surprise. The beef tartar was delicious, but it was a relatively small portion as well. The buñuelo on top was a great touch. The grits were outstanding. The fried chicken was so good - perfectly crispy with a chili honey that gave it yet another layer of flavor. The lamb curry was spectacular. So many dimensions of flavor, and simply something we couldn't get enough of. The brownie was phenomenal (the meringue and the candied pecans!), but so was the tapioca pudding. Sweet, fruity, and refreshing. Could do without the black sesame cookie, though. They still have a few kinks to work in terms of service (clearing plates, providing serving spoons), but you can tell a lot of love has gone into this place, and I hope they're very successful.

The food here is exciting. The texture, the flavor and the smell… I love the persimmon … a light crunch contrasted with creamy corn milk, a bright citrusy note echoed with smokiness, layered on the herb and touch of fennel… I had such lovely bites. Fish can use a bigger plate but I guess I can overlook the uneven match since the fish was cooked perfectly! Actually all the dishes were cooked to perfection - the beef tenderloin is so tender and lovely … Happy eating

This restaurant was like visiting another country. We visited for top Chef restaurant night with a set menu, and it was fabulous. Every course was tantalizing on all levels. They do an agua chilé on their regular menu and they also can make a green Michelada with it, even a n/a version! So amazing. Definitely go.

My husband and I went for dinner on Saturday night back in March. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and because it is not very large it was relatively quite inside. It still had a great vibe but it was nice being able to easily hear your dinner partner. We got: Sweet Potato - I'm not the biggest sweet potato fan but this was so so good. Carrots - This was probably our favorite dish, I can not recommend it enough. Squash - Another winner! Really light and fresh. Cauliflower - This was probably our least favorite of the 5 dishes we got, but it was still very good. Nothing we ordered was bad this was just the least delicious of all the wonderful food. Fried Chicken - Really flavorful and juicy. We got the half order which was more than enough for 2. We were both really impressed with the experience especially since the restaurant has only been open since January. We came back last Friday night with some friends and it was just as good! We got the sweet potato, carrots and squash again and this time we tried the chinese sausage and the lamb. I'm not a huge fan of lamb but I really enjoyed this dish! So pleased to have this restaurant in rotation.

Jun is pretty awesome. We sat at the bar but still experienced some of the best customer service we’ve ever had. Definitely a vibe with great drinks and a well balanced tasting menu. The aguachile alone is worth the visit. The fried chicken is lovely with a twist. The carrots were a pleasant surprise. I’m not a huge desert person but the in house vanilla bean ice cream is the cherry on top. Just visit. You won’t regret it.

Last night had dinner at Jun! Such a good experience!! Wanted to point out Steven and Chris for being so awesome! Will recommend this place to people and will come back! Get the sesame drink, the pickles were delicious! The gulf shrimp was so good! Get the lamb curry! So good and carrots! The brownie - we could of done without but still good!

The food is spectacular. Starting with the cornbread (a must), it melts in your mouth with the split butter. Then there’s everything else…the ribs are incredible, with the perfect amount of spice. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy without being oily/greasy (not sure how she does it), the cauliflower dish and the carrots dish (two separate things) were both delicious. Seriously, I can’t wait to try everything else on the next visit.

This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We ordered the tasting menu with a wine pairing, added fried chicken, and had a few other cocktails throughout the evening. The shrimp, sausage, chicken, carrots, brisket, and dessert were all 10/10 incredible- I don’t know how to pick a favorite. Squash wasn’t bad. Wine pairing was also excellent, I even really enjoyed the wines I wouldn’t typically order. The Golden Hour and Green Michelada were both out of this world. Service was also top notch. They happily reseated us when I complained about a draft. I think Joshua was our server’s name. He took such great care of us. Proactively asked how we enjoyed our drinks and offered to replace one when my boyfriend said it wasn’t his style. Got me an extra sip of wine when I finished it before the second paired course came out. Loved discussing the menu with him and really appreciated how friendly he was. This place just clenched the spot for my favorite restaurant in Houston. Definitely try it!

All my dishes and drinks were phenomenal! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and really enjoyed the experience. I kind of wish they invested a little bit more in their chairs they're extremely uncomfortable; however they were very kind when accommodating me and my day of reservation request to add an infant to the party. Every dish that was dropped was speiled beautifully; I could ask multiple members of the staff for whatever we needed through our meal and everyone was very kind and accommodating. I wished they had poured the wine table side and I could taste the wine before they poured it and the begging of service was slow going but these things are so small and pale in comparison to the sensation of flavors behind every bite and sip; seriously ! I will be coming back big fan of the team and shout to my server, don't remember his name but the coursing and firing was done exceptionally well And he was very sweet to my infant. TY Jūn

My wife and I had the opportunity to try Jun. Initially I was a little hesitant because thier menu was unique to me. I can only best describe the menu as a Asian Latin fusion food which I have never tried. Luckily my daughter encouraged me to try the restaurant and keep an open mind. I am so happy I listen to her. The menu is not long but has a variety of dishes from vegetables, seafood, and chicken. The menu is descriptive so you know the ingredients and spices used. We tried the shrimp, fried chicken, oysters, and cauliflower. The dishes are small, ample, and shareable. Our first dish was the shrimp. Presentation was impressive, almost to pretty to eat. The dish was excellent. The mixture of spices, sauce and shrimp came together to produce and awesome tasting dish. Dish after dish we had ordered didn't disappoint. The fried chicken was excellent, not oily, tender, and tasty. I can only describe the taste of the food like a symphony playing in my mouth, the spices, sauces, and food coming together in such a way that you savor every bite. Our service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and the drinks were good. Samantha our server was excellent in her description and dish suggestion, very good hostess, (she is my daughter but she will tell you I am picky) . Henry one of the owners was very informative and an excellent host. We definitely would recommend the restaurant. I do recommend making a reservation.

April 29: Brilliant. All of the dishes including cocktails have some unique flavors of ingredients pairing that tickle your taste buds and senses. House made pickles were fresh and towards the mild side of pickling - not salty. Oysters with fermented mango were charred with a food torch and tasted really good - only complaint - the adductor muscles were very hard to get off the shell - wish they could have done that while shucking. The carrots - many reviews talk about this transcendental dish - it is all that. Just get it you won't regret it. Squash with eggplant puree and black rice was yet another hit. While the whole branzino was generally good, it was our least favorite - the flavors overwhelmed the fish, and trended towards salty - it's the first dish we felt the balance was off. Tapioca dessert and Nuegados (donuts) were remarkable, so were the Michelada and Thai One On cocktails. Outstanding service by Miguel - the vibe of waitstaff was relaxed, calm and professional. Tip: Best place to sit is the counter watching the kitchen and chef Garcia. 4 counter stools have that view.

The meal we had was amazing. We love trying new places and you can taste the love put into this food. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the green Michelada, it’s so refreshing, a perfect mix of umami and citrus. My other favorite was the shashito peppers. They are divine. This is a great date night place for foodies!

This is a fabulous date night spot in the Houston Heights. We made a reservation at 5pm when they open because we had our 9 month old baby. Our server was the kindest women and was so good with our baby and just overall amazing in every way! The food is incredible, full of flavor and you can tell how much work goes into it. The fingerling potatoes, ribs and shrimp were some of my favorites from the evening. Highly highly recommend trying if you haven’t or if it’s been a while go back!

Went to Jun tonight. Sat at the bar, seating is extremely limited and I can’t see how any large parties could be accommodated. The board was amazing with the house made country pate and the oysters with pickled mango were fantastic. The beef tartar was perhaps the best ever. The salmon was good but I could seriously be happy with the board and tartar. For dessert we all agreed the tapioca was the winner. The donuts were good, but not outstanding. I’d never turn down donuts. The wine list is good and the cocktails fantastic. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.

My wife and I are both avid fans of food shows and have loosely followed Top Chef over the years. Chef Evelyn Garcia, a finalist from Season 19, caught our attention, and when we heard she had opened a new restaurant in Texas, we knew we had to add it to our bucket list. We made a reservation for a Friday night about two weeks in advance. Arriving at 5 pm, we were the first guests of the evening, as the restaurant had just opened for service. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a relaxing, Zen-like vibe that made the space feel cozy and intimate. Having done our homework beforehand, we were excited to try some of the signature dishes. • Beef Tartare: This was a standout dish and one of the restaurant’s signatures. A crispy fried onion ring topped the well-seasoned beef tartare, adding a delightful crunch to the dish. The egg yolk brought an extra layer of richness, and the overall combination of textures and flavors was fantastic. We absolutely loved it. • Half Fried Chicken: Another signature protein dish, this came with two perfectly fried pieces—one white meat, one dark. The skin was golden and crisp, while the meat inside was tender and juicy. The Thai basil added an aromatic freshness that balanced the dish beautifully, and the flavorful dipping sauce took it to the next level. This was another favorite. • Roasted Carrots: This vegetable dish exceeded expectations. The carrots were expertly seasoned and roasted, achieving a texture that was crunchy yet tender. Served with coddled bird eggs and a velvety potato purée, the components came together harmoniously to create a memorable dish. We thoroughly enjoyed it. • Heights Lager: Crisp, citrusy, and refreshing, this was my beer of choice, and it didn’t disappoint. • Orange Crush: As someone who doesn’t usually go for cocktails, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was fruity, light, and refreshing, almost like sipping on orange juice, but with a sophisticated twist. Overall, every dish we tried was thoughtful, flavorful, and creative. It was clear that Chef Garcia and her team put great care and effort into crafting each plate. This is a place we’d wholeheartedly recommend for special occasions or a romantic date night.

It was a delicious meal. We had the tasting menu. It's actually a great value, and had a wonderful variety of modern dishes. The flavors were executed really well, and the dishes were gorgeous. The staff was so warm and friendly too. I will definitely be bringing more people here. Congrats to the whole team on the James Beard nomination, it is well-deserved. Edit on 11-2-25 They've stepped up their game. This was some of the best service I've had in Houston. The attention to detail in the dishes is top notch. Everything has been so well thought out.

So cute! My photos are terrible- but Obviously came here to fangirl just a little. Was 100% worth it. Service was outstanding, food was outstanding, we had reservations but opted to sit at the bar. All of the staff was fantastic! We did the chefs tasting menu and wine pairing, we definitely had favorites but everything was delicious. We also tried the Tamale, sausage and chicken-because why not? They were all AMAZING. We were absolutely so happy we came here and would add this to one of our favorite Houston spots.

My friend and I already love Chef Evelyn Garcia from watching her on her season of Top Chef! This visit did not disappoint, we had SUCH a great time. Thank you to our server, Janne who convinced me to order the gulf shrimp dish. I DO NOT like shrimp and this dish was absolutely incredible. We ordered too much food for two people and could have done without the ribs (we were full) even though they were fantastic. I highly suggest you come to the Highlands for a visit, it is WELL worth your time.

My husband and I have been to Jun twice. i had to persuade him to try Jun - as, admittedly, the menu descriptions DO NOT fully reflect the genius and deliciousness of the food at Jun. Both times we had to have the Gulf Shrimp Aguachile- there is so much flavor packed into this little dish and the broth at the bottom of the bowl... ridiculously good. Slight kick of heat at the end. YUMMM. Beef Tartare - it's perfection. We were literally fork fighting over the last pieces of beef and I was super close to picking up the place and licking it. We also tried the Empanada, which was a big serving size and we devoured before we could get a photo. The Salvadorian Toast, which was not remotely what I expected, but HOLY GOOD JESUS... do yourself a favor, get this dish. It's so balanced with the marmalade and the crispy, yet soft, yet sugary bread. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We had the Rice Cake- again, not what i expected but FULLY enthralled with this dish, the rice cakes were chewy and really gave a meaty-feel in the mouth, the mushrooms were perfect size- I only wish there were more of them because I'm a pig- the yellow bean bechamel - I've never had anything like it. Sounds like it might be weird, but it was flavorful and thick but without being heavy like a traditional bechamel. Our first visit we had the sausage and the Brisket and Eggs. My memory is terrible but they were both delicious. The sauce with the sausage was perfectly seasoned and a little spicy. And the Brisket... I'm not a big brisket person but the portion was generous and it is definitely something I would order again to share. BBQ Brisket kind of clouds your brain for Brisket prepared another way, but this Brisket ws lovely. In fairness, my husband stole most of it. Service is IMPECCABLE. We were asked about dietary / allergies when we sat down and service was attentive but not overbearing. We plan to return over and over. I wanted to go up and kiss the glass to show Evelyn and the other kitchen staff my appreciation but I, like, restrained myself. I make no such promises on my next visit. LOL. LOVE JUN!!!!

The food here was phenomenal! I wish I had time to do a full tasting. I ordered the cucumber salad as an appetizer and it was amazing. Bright with lovely acidity, it had fresh pops of herbs throughout. My entree was the brisket, which is worth the money. The server recommended I order the coconut rice with it and I was very happy I listened, as the rice complemented the brisket nicely. I’ve never had brisket with a peanut curry and it was an inspired choice. The flavor of the brisket develops with each bite, so you are tasting different notes as you eat the dish. The aftertaste that lingers is absolutely delicious as well. Though last minute reservations are hard to come by, there is open seating at the bar (though there are not many seats, so it would be worth calling ahead). If you are a solo diner, this is the way to go. I had an excellent experience and would love to come back for a tasting the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend!

Fun Salvadoran and East Asian fusion restaurant in the Heights. We enjoyed sharing all of the dishes family style. One of the favorites, the chicken, was tender and crispy with a slight shrimp paste taste/aroma. All the sweet small plates were tasty too.

I’m a total foodie and this place was exceptional. Highly recommend the mushroom congee, for someone who makes congee often, the depth of flavor in a small bowl was really incredible. Next, the whole Tandoori branzino fish with mint chutney was really good too. Both the flavor and cook on the fish, and the mint chutney. Gulf shrimp agua chile was tart in the best possible way, great depth of flavor. Recommend getting a tapioca pudding with passion fruit panacotta. Could’ve done with a bit more of the passion fruit but it was really delicious. Only thing that wasn’t great was the Pork ribs. Balance of soy was off, way too soy heavy. Needs some adjustment. Overall, great ambience, service and food. Will definitely be going back!

We came to this restaurant for our anniversary! I had been wanting to try it out! We got the chef's tasting menu, which was the perfect amount to taste the majority of the dishes on the menu. Though the tasting menu portions were small, I definitely felt full by the end. The service was fantastic and very attentive! Will definitely be back for other celebrations!

Thank you Jessica for such a wonderful birthday dinner last night. An amazing dinner experience with my wife is the best gift. We went to Jūn in The Heights - a place we have been dying to go to for years now. Finally found the right occasion to do it. We have been watching the current season of Top Chef and I’ve been a fan of Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu for a while and what a team they make at Jūn. The service and style were perfect. A wonderful evening.

Amazing flavors in every bite! Not pictured, but one of our top was the shishito peppers with the most delicious sauce.

This place is so pleasantly dark. Especially in the dining room, bar area is slightly better illuminated. I love it personally. It’s perfect for a date, night out with friends, and any time you’re wanting an intimate atmosphere. Food is really near as well it’s a Latin, Asian, American fusion (oh hope mi not totally butchering that description, but that is how it came across to me). Definitely worth checking out if you’re trying to grab dinner somewhere cool in the heights.

This is our favorite Heights neighborhood restaurant. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is fresh, delicious and a good bang for your buck. Good for single diners, date night or group celebrations. They also frequently have guest chefs to add to the culinary adventure. Highly recommend!

Jun Restaurant exceeded expectations. The staff was attentive and welcoming, the food was absolutely delicious with bold, well-crafted flavors, and the cocktails were perfectly mixed and unique. A great spot for both dinner and drinks—highly recommend.

Every secondary aspect (ambiance, service, etc.) was great, I’ll go in depth for the food and drinks. All of the drinks were great, but the michelada with the fish sauce was a hiiit. The top 3 highlights from the dinner was the keuh pie tee, scallops and the buttermilk cake. Keuh Pie Tee: a one biter with a nice burst of flavor, cream, a bit of acidity and sweetness from the tomato and a crunchy exterior to top it off. Scallop: thought it was friend chicken at first, but it was scallop lol. Delicious, had squash on the side which was a nice touch to the rest of the dish. The scallop was cooked a bit soft but quite nice interior flavors which was well balanced. Cake: the BEST thing on the menu. Shuai told us he doesn’t usually make dessert and this was his first time. Well, he should do it more often cuz it was the best cake I ever had. The cream on the side was salty, the pears were lightly sweet, the nuts were crunchy and sweet, the cake was soft/fluffy, and the dark chocolate at the bottom was perfect. It was the most balanced bites I’ve ever had.

We went here for my wife’s birthday and had an awesome time from start to finish. The staff went out of their way to help us reserve the exact seats we wanted—right in front of the kitchen so we could watch the action. When we arrived, they even had a birthday card waiting for my wife, which was a really classy touch. Drinks were on point. One of them was made with beets—sounds strange, tasted amazing, and honestly looked pretty cool too. We kicked things off with oysters on the half shell, some of the best we’ve had. Then we went all in on the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Eight courses, each one fantastic. Zero misses. Stephen was our waiter and he absolutely crushed it. Super friendly, great energy, and he added a little extra magic during dessert that we really appreciated. The whole staff was awesome. Highly recommend this place. Great décor, great vibe, and an ideal spot for a date night. We'll definitely be back.

Omg I wish I lived in Houston and could eat here every day. I was lucky enough to go with a couple of regulars who guided our selections, but honestly, every dish is amazing. The tartare, rice cakes, and fried chicken probably stole my heart, though. Oh and the horchata!! Every single bite is a unique combination of flavors that are unexpected but balanced. A genuine delight and should not be missed.

I love third place, so my boyfriend and I finally decided to try Jūn. I find that you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I would’ve never thought to mix beets in my cocktail but when we heard scarlet letter was popular we had to try it! Nothing here ever disappoints. It’s all so delicious that you can’t go wrong. El aguachile estuvo riquísimo. We did the tasting menu which was the best way to try a little bit of everything. I would 10/10 recommend and return (•: My boyfriend really wanted an espresso tonic to complete his meal and although the barista had never heard of that, he made it happen. We were both super happy with our experience. Pro tip: sit at the counter so you can spend the time watching the chefs make your food

Hands down my favorite dining experience in Houston. The atmosphere is perfect and the food is unmatched—the pork ribs were out of this world and the mussels were incredible. It was such a highlight to sit at the chef's counter and see Chef Evelyn in her element, and having Chef Henry greet me as the host was a fantastic surprise. A huge shoutout to my server, Keaton, who truly made the night memorable with top-notch service. I finished with the goat cheesecake, which was outstanding. Best overall quality and service in the city!

Jun is truly a contender for the best overall restaurant in Houston. It was a top ten lifetime dining experience for us. Every single dish was a huge hit, and the variety on the menu is admirable. Houston flavors are featured throughout. The cocktails were good, although the food shined above the cocktails. The presentation was immaculate, and the hospitality service was probably the best seen from any restaurant I’ve been to. If you told me they had a Michelin star in hospitality I would say “that makes sense, they deserve it.” A member of the team explained every dish to us, always a nice touch. And they paced out small plate delivery timing better than I’ve seen any other restaurant. Congrats to the team at Jun for everything they’ve accomplished so far!

Jun is by far my favorite restaurant in Houston. The amount of times I have spent money at places and felt like I should have cooked at home makes me sad. This is not the case at Jun. Every time we have gone it’s been outstanding. It reminded me that food can be an experience. I get those little bursts of color like Remy in Ratatouille. Favorites were the Rice cakes, their take on Cesar salad, street corn with burnt ends 🤤 and fried chicken. Oh and the goat cheesecake is divine!

One of my favorite restaurants in HTX. This is the only place I will drink something other than water (oye morro!) they change their menu regularly and it’s always delicious. Perfect for any occasion, date night, bday, girls night out or just because you want good food. Also the decor is goals and the smell of the candles they have… I had to buy one. Don’t forget to check out third place in the mornings.

We love Jun! My husband and I both agree it’s a top 5 overall meal for us in Houston. If we have anyone visiting from out of town, dinner at Jun is always a must. It’s such a perfect representation of what the Houston food scene is all about. We absolutely love the beef tartare, shrimp, ribs, and fried chicken. You also have to order the doughnuts for dessert with a side of vanilla ice cream. I don’t know what they put in that ice cream but it’s crack.

My partner and I love going to Jūn. Their food and cocktails are special because it fuses flavors with imagination and high quality local ingredients. The chefs and servers are passionate and incredibly friendly. It is a great date spot and we really enjoy the guest chef dinners. The opportunities to have interactions with the chefs is very unique and elevates the intimate experience.

Food and service are elite every time we dine at Jun. From dinner service, to special events, to daytime pop-ups - our family keeps Jun in rotation in one way or another. Cafe drinks, cocktails, and wine are all so good. Service is so attentive and knowledgeable. And our toddler loves the fenugreek yogurt!

We love Jun! The staff is very knowledgeable and welcome. Food is fresh, fun, creative, and always delicious. The space is an absolute dream, I could just sit in the dining room and stare at all the fun little details put into the decor. Super chill experience at the bar with Todd and Adrian. Had cocktails and then the tasting menu without the wine pairing. I was pleasantly surprised by the inventive and flavorful cocktails since they don't have a proper liquor license yet. They were so artful and tasty I hardly missed my usual neat whiskey. Standouts for me were the carrots with salsa macha and cheese/ the shrimp Aguachile. By the time I got to dessert I was almost too full to appreciate the yucca doughnut with piloncillo syrup but it was delightful all the same. Highly recommend if you like small plates and a very modern/chill atmosphere. Thanks guys.

We went here for a date night with another couple for the second time, the first being when they opened. This time, the experience was wonderful more memorabel than the first. We decided to order à la carte rather than the tasting menu and ended up ordering almost everything on the menu except for the corn, mussels, and grits. My favorite dish was the beef tartare, it was outstanding. The crunch from the sesame buñuelo really made the dish pop. My next favorite was the oyster, which you wouldn’t expect to be that memorable since it’s “just” a raw oyster, but the beef tallow and serrano oil elevated it into an exceptional bite. Another must try is the shrimp aguachile.

We went here for our anniversary last weekend. Our server, Justin was so nice and helpful to guide us through the menu. The food was excellent—a fun blend of Salvadoran and asian cuisine. You have to try the fried chicken. The restaurant was beautiful and all the staff were so kind. Would definitely recommend!!

Amazing Experience! I came in this past Monday and the whole dinner was just on point. The food was next-level — every course felt like a Top Chef moment (and funny enough, the show was actually playing that night). Huge shoutout to Jeremy and Adrian, the servers who took care of me. Their timing, energy, and attention to detail turned the night into something special. Super friendly, super smooth — the kind of service that makes you want to come back. If you’re looking for a place where the kitchen is firing on all cylinders and the service hits that perfect groove, this is it. Can’t wait to return. 👌🔥

I recently went with a girlfriend and really enjoyed their food. We had the gulf shrimp, beef tartare, fried chicken, grits, rice cakes, redfish, and potatoes. Honestly all of it was really good. I’ve eaten at March and enjoyed Jun a lot more. They are not afraid of salt here and some dishes I felt maybe went a tiny bit heavy on the salt, but I like salt so it was not an issue. Don’t sleep on the rice cakes or the fried chicken. We also had mocktails, I forgot their names but the passion fruit vanilla one tasted like a creamsicle and the horchata one I got I liked it but I did not like the “debris” at the bottom. For dessert I got the ice cream sandwich which I thought was okay (not a big sugar cookie fan) but my friend’s tapioca was really good. You can tell they know what they are doing and are very mindful with complex flavors and textures. Highly recommend and would definitely come back.

It’s hard to describe just how pleased we were with our visit. Our waiter, David was a wealth of knowledge and guided us properly through the family style menu. My wife and I were not shy and completely enjoyed the oysters, smashed potatoes, shishito peppers, corn, fried chicken and the Muscles. We loved everything we had, but I have to point out that the fried chicken is hands down my favorite in Houston and the Muscles. WOW! The depth of flavor in that broth is otherworldly. Unbelievably delicious, so of course we have to go back for more

I've been here maybe 3 times now. Always solid, very consistent. The food has an unapologetic fusion, but also tame at the same time. They infuse a lot of unapologetic umami from the Asian cuisines, but without the overpowering intensity. Drinks are creative, atmosphere is a nice date night. Would recommend.

This is one of the best meals I have ever had in Houston! I cannot recommend it enough. They had unique and one-of-a-kind takes on dishes. I loved literally every bite of food we had! Our server was Todd. He was the best server I’ve ever had. If you go into Jun you should ask for Todd. He had an immense knowledge of everything on the menu, took care of all of our needs, and gave us the best dinner experience. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

Solid, solid meal! Will add to regular rotation! Had heard great things but finally made it in. We took an early dinner so got to take advantage of the HH menu and ordered from the a la carte menu. Had drinks, oysters, tartare, grilled cabbage, curry and ribs. Each dish hit the spot, we were very full with a reasonable tab at the end. Service was just right. After the meal, definitely understood the best new restaurant accolades. And we saw kitchen staff laugh and enjoy themselves while still cranking out consistent, delicious food. Good vibes front and back of house!

Very fresh ingredients and posh ambiance. I think the two big highlight items are the Gulf Shrimp Aguachile Beef Tartare Both of these items are huge hits! The bar is perfect for a cocktail with a date before transitionong to grabbing dinner.

I went for a quick bite opening night but forgot to post this. Food: As others have mentioned, the fried chicken is perfect - crispy on the outside and done but tender and succulent on the inside. The shrimp paste marinade gives it a great umami flavor. Much preferred to the buttermilk marinade at other places. The coconut jasmine rice is also perfect. It seems so simple but the flavors are light and complementary to the fried chicken (or, I imagine, whatever your main is). Grilled squash with puréed eggplant with chili lime, puffed black rice, and fresh basil and parsley: The pureed eggplant is very salty - perhaps too salty, so a little goes a long way. I recommend pairing just a little with every bite, so everything goes together. Could use more of the black puffed rice, so you can have every ingredient/flavor/texture in every bite, which is the only way this dish works IMO. If one thing is missing in a bite, the balance is all off. Service: Service was very smooth, friendly, and professional (for opening night or otherwise). I noticed no opening day issues with workflow or service. Ambience: It’s a modern space with high ceilings, clean lines, natural materials like stone and wood, and some Asian and modern art accents; roughly evenly divided into thirds: 1/3 bar /foyer; 1/3 dining tables; and 1/3 kitchen, which has large windows, so you can see the chefs working while you wait or hang out at the bar. Will go back to try some other dishes.

The carrots were life changing! Who would’ve thought carrots could bring this much joy?! Lol and the shrimp!’ So so good. 4 stars because they totally forgot to serve us the lamb curry, until after 20 minutes we asked about it and the server pretended like it was still being made but actually forgot. Also, there was no simple chocolate dessert- even the chocolate cake or tart whatever it was had lemon in it, and they refused to take the smear off the chocolate (very easy fix- but it is what it is). Service was good in the beginning, but when it got to asking for modifications because everything was tart on the dessert menu and we had someone who couldn’t eat it- let’s just say it wasn’t received well. Lol not a good last impression, but most of the food was great.

I was really excited to try this restaurant but my overall experience was mixed. First impression started off poor when there was no parking spaces and no valet. Service was excellent but we wished we were told of the portion sizes. 4 dishes plus dessert is enough for 2 people, we were told to get 5-7 for 2. We couldn’t finish our food and the last dish came out way too late, at the end of the meal when we were finishing our protein dishes. Regardless the last dish was the best which was the sweet potato. Also don’t skip the bread course, it was amazing. To end the meal we got the sticky toffee dessert which was a disappointment, no toffee and instead tasted like a banana bread you get from Starbucks.

Service was good and attentive. Because we came on a Monday night the atmosphere was pleasant. I think that if it was busy the place would be loud. 1. Cocktails: -Aguachile Michelada was the special for the night and a total bust. It lacks the punch of the shrimp aguachile and the cucumber lime beer didn’t help at all. I should have gone for the regular michelada instead. -Sherry & Clay is pleasant and taste like an Old Fashion, but it was nothing special. There was a fire lit rosemary on it but it went out at my table so the aroma was mostly lost. -Ginger She Really Hot is a star. Flavors are strong and popping. I could down several of these easily. You don’t really taste the sake. Raw: -Oysters were tasty flame charred lightly. Mango was fresh and sour. I think larger oysters would work better so that the sea is captured in one bite. The oysters were kind of lost because they were small. - Gulf shrimp aguachile was my favorite. Sous vide shrimp with pipping texture, crisp taro chips and the acidic sauce creates a flavor explosion in your mouth. Don’t share this with anyone. Order it for yourself only. Vegetable: -Sweet Potato was my favorite of the night. Perfect moist and tender texture punctuated with dill, walnuts and the house made labneh made for a wonderful combination in my mouth. I would order this every time. - Summer squash and puréed eggplant was smoky and fresh. I would have liked it more if it wasn’t heavily salted. I’m guessing it wasn’t intentional but just poor execution. Protein: -Lamb Curry was braised properly and tender. The curry itself was too sweet. It was okay but having water curries from all over the world, it was just average. - Whole fish. This was a branzino and I was impressed with how they removed 99% of the bones. It was grilled but I suspect had been sitting at the pass because I expected a crispier skin. The crispy vegetables helped with flavors but I found it a bit bland. It would have been nice if there was a dipping sauce or a dry rub. For $50 it was I but underwhelming. Conclusion: I enjoyed the evening with my wife. The service was good as well as the atmosphere. Major complaints are the seats that must have been sized for giants. The backrest on the chairs are so far back the the cushion seats have no lumbar support so they’re not comfortable to sit in. If I come back I would order the sweet potato, aguachile and ginger she really hot every time. Updates 2024: Came back and had N/A Michelada. It was good. But I also feel like I’ve had this before. We also had the fried corn bread that was so delicious and pared well with the black sesame butter. On the flip side the same dish also came with sesame seed bread, which was bland and the white butter as well.

Loved the food, but service was not great at all. When we first sat down the server asked us if it was our first time at the restaurant, we thought she would explain the restaurant and the concept a bit more. But she just said ok and walked off. We ordered a few dishes and wanted to keep one of the menus on the table. We were rudely told by the waiter that holding on to the menu is not possible because they do not want to get the menus stained. The waiter made everything extremely awkward and unfriendly from there on. She would quickly bring the food to the table and drop it off without saying anything making it seem like we deeply offended her by asking to hold to one of the menus? Very odd. The redeeming factor of the bad service was the food which was hands down great. We had the cauliflower, oysters, sweet potatoes, whole fish, prawns, fried chicken, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The carrots, whole fish, and oysters were our favorite. We will be back for the food. Maybe the rude waiter would be having a better day next time?

Great evening. The ambience is very well appointed. The food was very good and the service was well done. My husband and I shared the in-house cured meat board. I really enjoyed the bread that comes with this. My husband ordered the fried chicken which was delicious and I ordered the sweet potato which was very good. I really like the fact that they have a large wine list by the glass. My biggest pet peeve is when restaurants have a very short list of wines by the glass and typically they’re never the good ones. Overall a very good experience and will definitely be back.

The restaurant is nice, but when busy it is quite loud. The service was very good and friendly. The food portions are small. We ordered the oysters 4/5, gulf shrimp 5/5, carrots 5/5, and the fried chicken 4/5. We ordered wine by the glass. Decent selection, but seemed a bit pricey.

Ambiance is nice. Service is excellent. Complimentary sparkling water. Cute details on tableware and coffees are served in hand made mugs. Adds to the coziness. Brunch menu is à la carte. Be adventurous and try some things you normally wouldn’t. Parking lot can be packed at brunch hours, but street parking is available. Location is a little iffy and the parking lot could use a little sprucing up, but a lovely experience overall.

I enjoyed my cocktails , appetizer and whole fish . However I felt this place was a tad over rated . Dishes can be a hit or miss , proportions are definitely on the small side . Service was not the best , I was definitely expecting better given the hype. Try the michelada and shrimp appetizer , branzino was good, stay away from the chicken dish . The decor needs improvement by the bar area . I feel like they spent more time decorating and seasoning the bathroom than the restaurant.

They serve dishes that are a fusion of Latina and Asian food. We got their 7 course menu and enjoyed every dish. I loved how the course switched from Asian flavors, then Latina flavors and back to Asian- it made our experience more fun and kept our tastebuds excited for the next dish. Our favorite was the beef tartare and the sausage, but all were packed with flavor and delish. Price was very reasonable and the amount of food was perfect. Not to mention all the cocktails were a hit!! Would recommend for a special dinner!!

We came to this place because they were at the chef’s for farmers foodie event this year, we got there and it was happy hour (5-6pm) they had 6 food dishes, beer, wines and some cocktails that looked amazing. We had the shrimp ceviche, pork ribs, beef tartare, shishito pepper, and the purple potato chips with porcini cream… everything was amazing, flavorful, cooking on point.. the combination of flavors… awesome… we want to go back to try the rest of the menu!!!!!

R
Riya

For our courses, we had the aguachile, redfish, summer squash, sausage, fried chicken, and tapioca pudding. The aguachile was great. The redfish skin was so salty that it was almost unbearable which was not helped by the pickled melon. The summer squash was good; the sausage was fabulous although the peas did not go with the dish in my opinion. The fried chicken skin was great. I thought the chicken itself was a little dry and overcooked although the chili honey did help. The pudding was good, but the passion fruit panna cotta appeared at the bottom of the dish when the tang was needed at the top. The servers mean well, but I was annoyed by mine insisting that I eat the fried chicken with my hands. I don't think it added to the experience.

You walk into a place like this with high expectations — good reviews and beautiful photos tend to set the bar pretty high. The concept of Asian–Latin fusion sounds especially exciting, promising bold and unexpected combinations. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to those expectations. We opted for the seven-course tasting menu with wine pairing. Don’t get me wrong — the food was good. Each dish was well-prepared and flavorful, but I found myself wishing for more creativity in how the flavors and textures came together. The courses leaned heavily on familiar recipes — Salvadoran tamal, shrimp aguachile, curry, Chinese sausage, brisket, guava sorbet, and flan — all enjoyable on their own but not quite inventive enough to elevate the experience to five stars or justify the price point. The wine pairings were excellent though. The dining room had a mellow, romantic atmosphere, though it did feel a bit crowded at times, with staff moving quickly to keep up with service. Our waiter was just ok. Overall, while I wouldn’t return, I can see this being a good spot for a romantic evening and a chance to enjoy some fusion food and great wine.

Yelp 2026 Food - given the option of tasting menu vs a la carte. Ordered a la carte. Gulf shrimp ceviche 5/5 is by far the favorite amongst all the items. The blend with the avocado with a slight lime juice was great. Second favorite green curry 4.5/5 - consist of green beans (in between crispy and fully cooked), mushroom, potatoes cooked to softness drenched in a good curry sauce! (Got a side of rice to pair with it) Third favorite grilled red fish 4/5 - very solid, the more you eat the better it got. Beware of the cantaloupe or honey dew that comes with it (it's vinegar ish pickled flavored, caught me by surprise!) Corn 3/5 - flavor was on point but the type of corn or batch of corn used could be better (could be plumper, sweeter types of corn) Brisket 3/5 - the first few bites were amazing paired with peanut ish curry. However, after a few bites digging into the chunk of the meat- it is pretty tough not as tender anymore so basically wasted 90% of the chunk. Would likely not order this again. Dessert - 5/5 got the goat cheesecake with ginger lychee sorbet- the pairing of rich goat cheese and the light ginger lychee sorbet with the additional toppings including berries jam and crispy sugar it blended super well Service - super friendly staff, attentive, efficient Ambiance - had counter seating facing the kitchen giving a view inside the kitchen and I loved this seating!

Was excited to try this spot and will probably return to get a genuine feel, since I went during one of their guest chef dinners. While the flavor profile was quite interesting, some of the dishes were just a bit off. Nothing major but sometimes dishes can be a little too complex. It was also the only multi-course dinner I've done that left me still hungry. The wine pairings were delightful and the service was good. Overall, a fair enough experience that I'd recommend trying at least once.

A cute recent addition to the Houston Heights. Jun opened in February this year (2023) with a cool concept as "New Asian American." A very aesthetic interior, decor, and dishware. They have El Salvadoran, Oaxacan, Asian and classic American influence on the menu. Great concepts and some hits - the Pan de Arroz with Black Sesame Butter was fantastic! As was the syrup for the Wings & Waffles - a spicy, fruit maple that I want to take home with me. There were some opportunities for improvement - the waffles were really dense, and the smash burger could use more flavor. The dining space was also packed in tight with tables- which made it a very loud, cafe-vibe. They were busy, so the service was slow (if you follow along, you know my water going empty for too long is my key indicator here...). I loved that they have a variety of loose leaf teas that they re-steep for you... a hot tea just hit different with Asian food!

Visited Jun for Valentines day dinner. It was a prix fixed dinner so not the regular menu. The food was not bad it just took forever to come out which is odd if you already know what you are cooking. The wines were good but service was slow. I would go back to try the regular menu though

My partner and I went to Jūn in early January (1/19) to celebrate her birthday and our experience was mixed. We ordered- Cocktails: Sweater Weather and Christmas in Jūn Snack: House Made Pickles Raw: Oysters Vegetable: Persimmon, Carrots, and Cauliflower Protein: Mussels and Whole Fish For the above, we paid $245. Overall, the vegetable dishes were each amazing - I could go on about the smokiness of the carrots, the balance of sweet and hot with the persimmon dish, and the cauliflower was likely the best dish of the night. The oysters were quite good and the cocktails were creative and festive. Other reviews seem to rate the pickles highly, but our experience was that the pickles themselves were good but the pickled blackberries and broccoli were far too sour. However, both of the proteins were so-so. The mussels were delivered well but I think that curry with mussels makes the dish too heavy. This could simply be my taste. The whole fish, however, is not well conceived. The fish itself is seasoned well but plain and slightly dry. It comes with a mint chutney which is so strong that you cannot pair more than a toothpick's worth with the fish if you wish to taste the fish. The salad that comes with the dish is boring and adds nothing to the plate. The yogurt in the description is seemingly undiscovered. The service was kind and communicative, but our dishes took nearly two hours to all come out. Our second cocktail was earnestly ordered out of boredom. The ambiance was good but the lighting was too low, and I (28 y/o, not blind) had a hard time seeing certain dishes very well and we had to keep reorienting the solitary candle which allowed us to see. It's a restaurant, not Death & Co.

Jun is a fine dining restaurant but many of the entrées require eating with your hands, so they provide wet towels with each of those dishes. The ambiance is very romantic and the service was very professional and attentive. We started strong with the beef tartare which was flavorful and delicious followed by mussels in a rich, savory red curry broth (though a little too salty). We asked for extra bread to soak up the sauce and were brought two very large baguettes for $4 which was way more bread than the small amount of broth left. From there, the meal unfortunately went downhill. The fried chicken arrived bone-in, which made it feel more casual than fine dining (almost like being at Popeyes). The rice cakes turned out to be the Korean tteokbokki style rather than the Chinese kind I had expected, and since I’m not a fan of tteokbokki, I did not enjoy this dish. The ribs also came bone-in, requiring yet another round of finger eating. The carrots were good, but the bed of cheese they sat on was very peculiar. We ended up skipping dessert, even though it was my birthday, because we didn’t want more disappointment. For us, there was simply too much of eating with our hands and too many misses in execution for a fine dining establishment. While the dishes were creative, it didn’t quite deliver the experience we were hoping for. Sadly, I don’t think we’d return.

I recently dined at Jūn and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the service was genuinely warm and friendly. Every staff member we interacted with was polite, attentive, and welcoming. The ambiance is lovely, clean, eclectic, and thoughtfully designed. I’d absolutely give the front-of-house and cleanliness a solid five stars. Where things fell apart was the kitchen timing and pacing. We requested that our food come out together, but it didn’t. I ordered the chicken and potatoes, and my husband ordered the ribs and corn. The corn came out first, followed by my chicken, while the rest of the dishes lagged far behind. I was initially told the potatoes would be out in about 9 minutes, but closer to 20 minutes passed with no update. A manager later checked in, and after I asked again about the missing dishes, I was told 15 more minutes though they did arrive about 10 minutes after that. As for the food itself, the flavors were okay, but not especially memorable. The chicken tasted heavily brined, slightly swollen and on the salty side and overall it felt like the kitchen may be trying a little too hard instead of letting the ingredients shine. I recently moved near the restaurant and truly want to support local businesses in my neighborhood. Jūn has a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere and service, and I hope the kitchen timing and execution find better consistency moving forward, because the foundation is definitely there.

Another fancy but food-disappointing place… Nice atmosphere, stylish design. Service is friendly and relatively attentive. But the food was plain bad. Peanuts for $5 is a joke… these are just simple roasted peanuts in a small bowl. The shrimp skewer comes on a plate, without skewer (??) - overcooked, tastes bland. The biggest issue, is the most expensive item on the menu - beef tenderloin. It is served with some creme and sauce. Nobody asked how I want it (rare/medium/well etc). The beef was half dry and difficult to chew. Only the beef tartare was ok. For the prices, this place is completely overrated.

Ah Jun, I really wanted to like you. But, alas, was not the case. It was almost like a tinder date with attractive pictures and promising communication , yet turns up to be mildly bipolar. The good: our waitress was excellent, extremely friendly, knowledgeable and on top of things. Presentation of food was exquisite, plates were swapped when needed , so flavor would not contaminate. Attention to details was clearly noticeable. I really enjoyed the decor, though table top lighting needs to improve ( every single table was using phone light to read their menus. The bad : table size - table for 2 was smaller than one at Parisian sidewalk cafe. I understand every square foot counts, but don't be greedy. Food was hit n miss. Some good some unimpressive. Cauliflower was undercooked, not in a good way. Oysters were delicious but not well cleaned, I got shell debris in my mouth. Cocktails.... I wouldn't know because they make theirs with sake and while I can appreciate a good sake cocktail, I'd prefer a proper spirit one ( especially for listed prices) . Speaking of prices, it is up there, not terrible, but I'd definitely expect more for what I'm paying. Btw, unbeknown to you there will be $4 charge for kitchen tip... Really? Nickel and dime... If place is in such need of $4 off each table... Just charge me extra $1 for a plate.

Got Beef Tartare, Roasted Cauliflower w/ Eggplant Puree, Charred Carrots w/ Salsa Macha and Cheese, Fried Chicken, Coconut Rice: Beef Tartare was really good. Got a lot of roasted sesame and rice flavor, and the buñuelo was crisp and dissolved when you chewed on it. This dish reminded me a lot of tuna crispy rice. The mayo was citrusy and the beef was tender. I personally think there was too much mayo in relation to beef. Also, the beef flavor did not come through, hence the reminiscence of tuna crispy rice. I really just want more pronounced beef flavor if I'm eating beef tartare. Maybe they're using a cut of beef not conducive to lending beefy flavor; I could see that being the case. Roasted Cauliflower: They actually used Asian cauliflower, which was unexpected. Given this to be the case, the cauliflower was a really nice texture, super crunchy and juicy. The eggplant puree was super nice, thick and sweet to complement the earthy cauliflower. I want this dish to have much more toasted hazelnut because that flavor did not come through at all, and I would have liked more of the nut crunch. Same with the black garlic. I know it's in the puree, but I wish there was evidence of it elsewhere for splashes of fermentation and garlicky-ness in each bite. Charred Carrots were really, really good. The textural progression through the carrot was super pleasant, with the thick ends having some bite left and the thin ends being crisp and chewy and deeply sweetened from caramelization. The Salvadoran cheese was amazing. Like a whipped feta but replace the brininess for a deep, barny flavor is the only way I can describe it. So luscious, and the salt perfectly contrasted the sweet carrot. They did say that there was everything bagel seasoning in the salsa macha, but I detected no hint. Once again, they miss with their crunchy condiment allocation. The Fried Chicken was the most highly regarded protein, but it was honestly average. Just some fried chicken. Marinated in hoisin sauce and fermented shrimp paste, but even though they're using such potent flavors, it barely comes through. Only when you taste exactly the area between the chicken and the breading. The syrup it comes with isn't anything at all either, not especially flavorful or even sweet. Also, the wooden honey server thing was annoying to use and didn't really work because peppers got clogged in it. Anyways, Popeyes over this any day. They would probably do better brushing the chicken with a seasoned hoisin and shrimp paste after the fry to season it and make it lean a lot sweeter. Okay, I'm a schmuck for ordering the Coconut Rice. Server was like, "I recommend a side," and I said, "Yeah, okay." This smelled so good coming out with the banana leaf and a lot of coconut aroma, but it was very sad. Overcooked rice that's not sweet at all, not even salted properly. Overall, this restaurant was disappointing, with glaring deficiencies in every single dish. The highs being the carrots, which were phenomenal, and the beef tartare because I love beef tartare. I think there's a lot of inspiration behind each of these dishes; they just missed the mark at least somewhat on all of them.

I had high expectations for Jun Restaurant, especially after hearing great things about their tasting menu, but unfortunately the experience fell short. The food portions were extremely tiny — so small that it was hard to really enjoy or even taste most of the dishes. A tasting menu should feel like a journey of flavors, but this one left me still hungry and unsatisfied. Out of all the courses, the only dish that truly stood out was the Gulf shrimp aguachile. It was fresh, flavorful, and well-balanced — easily the highlight of the entire meal. Overall, for the price and hype, Jun didn’t deliver the experience I was hoping for. If you’re going for the tasting menu, be prepared for very small portions and limited wow factor.

A Descent Into Culinary Despair: The Tasting Menu There are moments in life when one must confront the void. At Jūn, the void took the form of a tasting menu—an endless procession of tiny, indifferent dishes, each more baffling than the last. Time slowed. The air grew thick with the weight of unmet expectations. We sat in silence, waiting for salvation that would never come. It began with thirst. Twenty minutes for a simple glass of water, each passing second stretching into eternity. When the first dish finally arrived—forty minutes later—it was not nourishment but mockery. A piece of chicken skin, meant to be crisp, was instead shattered into brittle, jagged fragments, like the remains of some ancient ruin. The brisket lay before us, dry as sun-bleached bone, its accompanying sauce an ill-conceived sweetness that clung to the tongue like regret. And then, the carrots. Blackened, carbonized remnants of what was once life. The server, unmoved by reason or sight, insisted they were fine. I pressed my knife against one. It did not yield. It snapped, violently, sending a shard of burnt root hurtling through the air, a desperate escape from the absurdity of its own existence. The wine arrived in portions so meager, so sparse, it was as if they were rationing the last reserves from a shipwrecked vessel. Four half-glasses over the course of three hours—each sip a reminder of the long road still ahead. The hot dishes were not hot. The cold dishes were indifferent. The flavors battled each other like lost souls in a howling void. And still, we waited. We waited for something to make sense. But meaning never came. The final bill: $200 per person, a sum that should promise transcendence but instead delivered only the cruelest of lessons. When we left, we were not full. Not of food, nor of joy, nor even of anger. Only hunger remained, gnawing at the edges of our souls. The night had stripped us of illusion. The tasting menu was not a journey, nor an experience—it was a slow and deliberate unraveling.

This was the worst experience I’ve ever experienced in the city of Houston. I’m a native to the city and I came out to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The server Jan was overbearing and militant in her approach to tell the table what we were going to order. Again, she told us what to order. It was not really a suggestion. It was a turn off, but for the sake of the party I did not leave. We were coerced into having one check. Either we paid $85 for the full taste menu or we had to pay for a la carte. With a la carte you had to share your meal with the table. It was not optional. My critique is that the restaurant should be more direct with their dining experience, so that people will be aware of what they are coming into. I will never return to this restaurant.

Extremely disappointed in our experience here last night. Wife and I rarely ever get date nights out with having kids so we were exited to finally try Jun and we were totally let down. Started off great with friendly staff and the first few dishes were super delicious. Then it took a horrible turn for how expensive this place is. We waited 50 minutes from appetizers to entree, the server came by only once in the mean time…. For 50 minutes. When the muscles finally came out they were awful, they were frozen cold and half the meat was missing from the shells and the flavor was off. Such a surprise because the other dishes were great. The worst was the service from that point on. When we told the server the dish wasn’t good he looked at us and said “oh…. Ok then” took the plate and then 20 min later came back and said “we decided to comp the dish, any thing else you want” I asked for the check and that was the last word spoken to us. No one came over and asked why we sent the meal back and for a restaurant of this caliber I am very surprised and disappointed.
