Best Mexican restaurant I have had in a long time. The green dipping sauce is to die for. Fresh tortilla chips as well. All very yummy. We stopped by for lunch and menu was very reasonable. $36 for two adults and two toddlers. Can’t find better deal in 2023. Def want to come back!

The service here was really great. Friendly and kind servers. The restaurant looks abit dated, but it was clean and looked well loved. It has a big menu but we went for the lunch specials which come out to be a good deal (around 10-12$ a plate) The crunchy tacos and rice were so so but the refried beans were good.

La Tapatia is one of those places for which every Houstonian has a story. This location has been here for years and I used to come here as an undergrad student for their late nights eats and great happy hours. This was my first time back after the pandemic shut everything down and they definitely delivered! Everything tastes like I remember. Both the red and green salsas are spicy served with hot and salty tortilla chips. We got the mixed fajitas and ordered them medium rare, but they were more like medium well. They didn’t come out sizzling either and seemed like they had been waiting under a heating lamp. It was great to be served our meal so quickly, but I wish they had taken the time to prepare them medium rare instead of getting our food with our margaritas. My margarita, The Ultimate, was salty, but my wife’s margarita, (the one below The Ultimate on the drink menu) was less salty. They come in huge glasses, but there are no prices listed on the drink menu — just a heads up. The patio is a highlight because they have both heating lamps and fans for all seasons and weather. The parking lot is challenging, but if you can maneuver it you’ll have a great time on the patio or indoors. The service is great, the food comes out quick, and it tastes like you remember. Sometimes that’s all you want.

Always go here when I'm back in town. Great food and service as always. Reasonably priced and they serve fantastic margaritas. My favourite dish is the Grilled Beef Skirt Steak

I came here for a date night! We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and nachos. Service is quick, food is Tex-Mex tasty but make sure to order any extra sides in advance! I found myself waiting until my drink glass was empty before anyone approached to order more food (you will be kept waiting until your drink glass is empty!!) There's room for improvement. Its a fun time here, we did enjoy! Make sure to allow for EXTRA time for food orders!! 4 drinks, (3 large/1 small), 1 appetizer. $66 before tip. We had a good time. It feels a bit pricey considering the vibe I wanted! Its also very loud here so be prepared to speak up!!

It’s sad to see what has happened to this location. La Tapatia used to be my absolute go-to spot in Montrose, but based on my recent visit, those days are clearly over. The fact that it was nearly empty on a holiday says everything you need to know about its current state. The Food: The quality has taken a massive dive. I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas (no beans), but I was served beef with beans. I decided to just eat it rather than send it back, which was a mistake. The "fajitas" were just a few dry slices of beef and tortillas—no cheese, no pico de gallo, and no sour cream. It was a bare-bones, disappointing plate. My friend’s meal wasn’t any better. They ordered the cheese enchiladas and a crunchy beef taco. The taco shell was completely mushy, and the cheese inside the enchiladas wasn't even fully melted. The Atmosphere: The space feels tired and hasn’t been updated in years. While that might be forgivable if the food was still great, the combination of a dingy interior and poor cooking makes for a depressing experience. Verdict: I really used to enjoy coming here, but the spark is gone. Between the service errors and the subpar food, I won’t be returning. There are far better Mexican options in Houston now.

Everything was good until the waitress at the bar added a $14 separate tip charge fraudently. We spoke to the manager and waitress minutes after leaving because of the bank alert that came in, the manager acted like he didn't see our original receipt charge. I told him we'll dispute e it with the credit card company and informed what occurred is fraudulent. So be careful or pay cash when coming to this establishment.

DISGUSTING caldo de res. $16.25. No meat just one piece of pure cartiledge and fat, you would think the broth would have taste but just oily water. No seasoning and like 3 vegetables. Ordered on doordash and have major regrets. Go somewhere else for caldos this winter!

I hadn’t been to La Tapatia in a long time it used to be my go-to spot for a pre-drink meal or a late-night bite after going out. This time, we came for lunch (or brunch, whatever you want to call it) with our daughter, and it was a completely different experience. There were only two occupied tables, and despite having three waitresses, service was incredibly slow. The worst part? We were served a cup of ice with lemonade, and I’m pretty sure one of the ice cubes had frozen-over rodent poop inside. Good Lord, someone needs to inspect that ice machine because who knows what’s living in there. On top of that, it was ridiculously expensive. Our bill came out to about $120 for two orange juices, two Mexican Cokes, a basic two-egg breakfast with bacon, ceviche, street tacos, and half a roasted chicken with rice. For that price, I’d rather go to Perry’s and get a quality meal with drinks. Mind you, this was at 12 PM on a Sunday prime brunch time yet the place was practically empty. That tells you everything you need to know. Between the lack of service, questionable cleanliness, and overpriced food, this was a never again for me.
