I had been searching for a BBQ place where I could get my BBQ on mashed potatoes rather than a baked potato and found my new spot! Great food, great value, and fantastic service! Everyone was so friendly and treated us exceptionally well!

I absolutely love this place! I’m considered a “regular” because I’ve been going to soulmans every Friday for 6 years. We know all of the staff there and they are extremely nice and helpful. I wouldn’t recommend a place more than I do this one.

I ordered thru the drive thru a week ago and the food alone was delicious! Just what I was craving. (I got ribs) I came back a week later and the service + the food was even better the 2nd time. Jeff was working the drive thru and he was so sweet and funny… definitely made me want that banana pudding. I had my pup in the back and he got her a pup cup, WHICH SHE LOVED! Will definitely add this to my weekly rotation.

Wife and I went there earlier this week. She had the pulled pork sandwich and I had the turkey sandwich on toast. The pulled pork was fantastic. My turkey was very good, too. Or sides were potato salad (possibly the best I've had) ranch style bean (very good with nice spicy kick, and boiled cabbage (I hate cooked cabbage but my wife said it was delicious). The staff was friendly and Jimmy was very attentive on checking on us. I am definitely getting that pulled pork next time. Thank, Jimmy.

I have spent a little over 4 weeks in Texas so far in 2025. Every day, I try a different BBQ place. This is my first Texas BBQ review because they deserve one! The food was great, the service was exceptional. I feel the prices are quite fair. I ordered the 3 meat build-your-own platter which comes with your choice of 3 meats, 2 sides and a piece of Texas toast. For my meats, I selected lean brisket, turkey and ham. For my sides I selected the Texas cream corn and spicy potatoes. I also ordered an extra side and selected baked mac and cheese, plus an extra piece of toast. What can I say, I'm a carb junkie! I had a choice of original or spicy BBQ sauce. I chose the spicy. I also ordered a regular size drink as I was dining in and refills are free. Plus, like most BBQ places in this area of Texas, you are offered free self-serve ice cream. All this for under $26. Did I eat it all? No, but I did try everything before boxing up my leftovers. Every selection I chose was absolutely delicious. All 3 meats were making me want to go order more. Soulman's BBQ has the most flavorful cream corn I've ever eaten. The spicy potatoes are great with a nice kick to them and I'm please to say, the baked mac and cheese is really good and NOT Stouffers being passed on as their own recipe. For me, their spicy BBQ sauce is spot on. Thick enough it'll stick to the meat, and the flavor was phenomenal. The restaurant is super clean and the staff is very friendly. Everyone was smiling and answered any questions I had without treating me as a bother. If y'all looking to get your soul-full with great BBQ and even better service, head on over to Soulman's BBQ in Hurst, Texas, on Grapevine Hwy. You will not be disappointed!

Visiting from California for a graduation. My sister and I split the two meat plate because we couldn’t store leftover. Brisket, ribs, cabbage and seasoned potatoes. Food cooked to perfection! The free ice cream had a homemade taste. Service good as well.

Our all-time favorite BBQ!! The Double Barrel (with lean beef) and The Tyler are our tried and true choices (best sausage I've ever had). It's yummy fun to end the meal with a soft-serve cone, too. The staff is consistently super friendly, and the food never disappoints. If you haven't tried it, you've got to! Ask for Jimi, he'll make sure you have everything you need, with a healthy dose of southern charm on the side. ❤️

First time coming in with my brothers and it’s probably the best BBQ I’ve had in a long time. The smoked pork ribs might be the best thing there and if you spend 1 dollar you get free ice cream! The employees behind the counter serving us were very nice and welcoming. Been in D/FW 55 years and this was the first time I've had Soulmans. Wasn't disappointed at all! The brisket was good , the BBQ sauce was flavorful and they have a good selection of side dishes. I'm not a cabbage guy but got the fried cabbage and really enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly and I will definitely be back.

Huge delivery order for 40 people. Everything was great, great customer service, great delivery and setup for 80th birthday party. Along with the entrees and sides, all other items were considered, from flatware, to napkins, ice, bread, sauce, and relish tray! Really well done, I should have ordered more hot links and sausage, that went quick! Brisket on point!

I had an incredible first visit! The highlight was the fried fish—absolutely amazing. It’s a culinary delight that I can’t stop thinking about!

The bbq here is solid. Half Chicken is great. As they say, they aren’t stingy with the meat, you will get what you pay for or more, especially with the soul bowls (recommend build your own). The fries are fried fresh with each order (if not, make sure they do because they’re good). The staff is always super nice and friendly and I highly recommend them. You also get free ice cream with dine in orders.

Great first visit. After years of cooking competition BBQ it’s rare for me to eat BBQ out. I’m glad I stopped in. Brisket point was perfectly cooked, with the fat rendered but still nice and moist without a tough crust. Sausage was well cooked as well with nice flavor and crisp snap of the casing. Jimi nailed it on the pit today. They rest of the staff was fantastic as well! Friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I’ll be back!

Came to try this place out today. I had the tow meat plate brisket and ribs and boy was it delicious and the meat really tender and delicious, my brother had the pulled pork combo and said he really enjoyed his meal. This was my first Texas Brisket experience and it was wonderful!! The meat was so juicy and tender !! The ribs were ok , coming from Georgia we do some great ribs !!! I was surprised by the jalapeño creamed corn (spicy) but actually had a great flavor ! This was my first time having mashed potato salad, it was not my favorite but had good flavor ! The staff was super friendly and also the customers helped us with the selection! We will be back ! Thank you for the free ice cream cone !!

This place is great!!! I am a vegetarian so I’m am always on the hunt for places that have wonderful veggie options. The spicy potatoes, Texas cream style corn and fried okra are my favorites. I get the delicious red beans for my protein. Unlike many bbq places they don’t add pork to the beans. The veggie plate comes with 4 sides + a piece of Texas toast for $11.49. I eat there weekly and it’s great. So happy this restaurant is in my area.

Came to grab a simple lunch and my day was made. Jimmy and Christine were both just so genuinely nice and the food really satisfied my pregnant girl cravings.

The food was so good. The ribs and sauces are perfect together. The fried cabbage and sausage taste better than your grandma. Spicy, sausage and seasoned to perfection.

I have been seeing Soulman's Bar-B-Que and we almost ate there but this time we intentionally planned to eat here lol. The website gave me some trouble but I was finally able to create an account and place my order. Upon arrival, the location looks beautiful and smells delicious lol. The display of the meats and the sides make your mount to water. I also loved how friendly and genuine the employees were. We ordered the 3 meat plate and got chicken, turkey and ribs and fries. We also got an extra side of sausage. This was an enough meal for our 2 kids and I also nibbled on some ribs. Our kids loved the food so much that they said we have to eat there again and we cannot wait to explore more items in the menu. Its also a plus that they support 6 stones and the HEB community! I highly recommend Soulman's. You guys get 10 stars.

This was the first time I’ve ever been here, and it’s now my favorite bbq place! I got the 1 meat plate with lean brisket and a baked potato. The brisket is excellent, the sauce is great, and the baked potato was perfect. There aren’t many places that can do a good baked potato but I’d go there just for that. The portions were very generous and the staff friendly and attentive. Definitely a 5 star experience, I highly recommend this Soulman’s Bar-B-Que!

Went through the drive-thru today, and this was my very first time trying anything from this restaurant. I ordered the Soulman’s Sandwich with chopped brisket, along with two sides — fried cabbage and mac & cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious! My son went with the Soulman’s Sandwich (Hot Links) and chose potato salad and French fries as his sides. He said the sandwich and fries hit the spot, though the potato salad wasn’t his favorite. We didn’t eat there — we brought it home — unfortunately I was not able to get any pictures to upload. We’ll definitely be visiting again!

My family and I walked in for the first time and were greeted by Jimmy. We told him we were from out of town and that it was our first visit, and he recommended the Family Style Chuck Wagon with chicken and ribs. We went with his suggestion, along with potato salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, mac n’ cheese, and added ranch beans as our sides. Ribs were tender and fell of the bone. Chicken was very juicy and tasty. Everything was delicious and definitely didn’t disappoint. We even meant to take a picture of our food, but we forgot because we ended up eating every bit of it! There was plenty of food for the four of us. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was great. You can also get yourself a vanilla ice cream cone for desert. That was also creamy and delicious. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town! Thank you Jimmy and Soulmans Bar-B-Que staff! 😊

I pretty much eat only pescatarian outside, so I never would have even bothered coming to a BBQ place like this. However, my mom saw the other day that they had fried fish on Fridays - curious, I gave a call asking if they fried their fish separate from their meat products, and the staff was very nice when confirming and explaining it to me. Ended up trying it drive through and the service was yet again great and surprisingly fast. Overall, the fish and sides were cooked so well, it felt like I had ordered at a sit down restaurant rather than a fast casual spot like this. I do wish though the fried okra side was larger as the cup was smaller than I expected. And although everything else was cooked well, the hushpuppies were a bit lacking: either fried for too short or too long. The fish itself was great (light and airy) and I liked the amount I got. I don't think there are many solid fried fish options nearby so it's pretty cool they offer it here, especially keeping it separate from their meat products despite being a BBQ place. I wish I could explain it better, but the only thing keeping the taste from a 5 stars, is just I don't think anything I ate here was extraordinary.

Great Friday night catfish. This place was rocking on a Friday night. While it wasn't out-the-door-busy, it was busy enough that people behind us left because they were tired of waiting. For us, it was the worth wait. The hush puppies were good. The fish was really good. The fried cabbage was wonderfully flavored. As were the green beans. They have some nice options for sides. The spicy creamed corn is another nice choice. Top notch banana pudding! It has great flavor--not too sweet and nicely banana taste. They also have free soft serve. We will definitely be back.

I’d like to apologize to the young lady who took my order and to the person who corrected my order that was wrong missing a baked potato. Soulmans was very busy, sold out of brisket, ribs… my wife and I had to adjust our order, had to wait for about 25 minutes on a drive thru order and then go back in to get it corrected. My apologies for being impatient and rude when I came back in…. I want this business to succeed and am not leaving a bad review because they corrected the issue, were extremely busy and don’t want to tear someone down… I hope the staff accepts my apology.

Decent price for todays world. Good portion size. I had that big sandwich that has like five meats. It was delicious but wish they used pulled pork or brisket instead of ham. My preference. Fried cabbage was real good. Try them.

The good: The chicken was flavorful with good crispy skin. The spicy potatoes were good and the spicy BBQ sauce was tasty. Also, I spoke with a couple staff members and they were very nice! The fail: The brisket was a tragedy. I witnessed the meat cutter slicing thin, almost deli-style slices for someone in front of me. I asked for normal thickness slices. This seemed like a novelty to him. I also asked for moist. The brisket had no smoke ring and zero bark. The meat cutter kinda swiped off a thin slimy bark layer before cutting it. Once plated, the brisket failed the pull test completely...I couldn't pull it apart normally....very tight. Also, the fat wasn't rendered and the meat was chewy. I only tasted fire, no smoke. I couldn't taste any seasoning. This was a very bland. The brisket was clearly pulled early, not wrapped, no rest, and not seasoned. So, there was good food here, no doubt. I'd like to try the ribs as they looked good. This is NOT Texas style BBQ(any region) however so you should know this before you order brisket. Sounds like a harsh statement, but Texas style BBQ with brisket leading as our flagship, is well established at this point.

I like the flavor of the food. But its almost always cold. I always buy a rotisserie chicken and I have to ask for then to reheat it. Some teenagers working there didn't know how to heat it up, which was alarming to me. I had to come home and put it in the air fryer because the chicken was not fully cooked. There was blood. Their chciken is usually pink and im okay with that but this had raw blood inside. Maybe just stick to their ribs. Hope this helps someone.

Don’t get the fries okra. I watched them drop previously fried okra into the fryer just to heat it up. It was therefore over cooked and very greasy. Not good at all.

Delivery order missing 16oz side of beans, half pound of brisket and the coleslaw and fries for the half slab rib dinner. $90+ order and we received 1/2 of it. Truly disappointing. We rarely eat out or order in and were celebrating something special. Is it the restaurant's responsibility or the driver's responsibility to make sure everything is in the bag/bags. The receipt is stapled to the bag so whoever packs it should be checking. The food received is fine but the whole experience is not.

Meh. I thought that place would be different and offer better quality. It's essentially a fast food buffet line BBQ joint. I'd rather go to Dickies or Spring Creek. Save yourself the trouble and go to the Back 40. You'll have a much better experience. This place is simply overpriced for what they offer. The food has been sitting out for some period of unknown time and doesn't look appealing. I'm certain this place has a few regulars, but that's likely because they love close or don't know true quality BBQ. Save yourself time and money and skip over Soulmans.

Normally this place is great, might have caught them on an off day. Buuuut, the staff (female, red haired, possible manager) (Wednesday around 7pm) no name tag, yelling at employees in front of customers and being quite rude to the customers in front of her too... was prolly the worst experience I've had here. The brisket was dry, my order was not correct, and when I started to ask about it being changed the "manager" snapped at another employee that "got it wrong"... i was in awe... Also, not normally a big deal... but threw me off too when I was told "we don't do military discounts here". Only threw me off due to it being something in the past many visits. I might give them another shot... in a few weeks... but bad taste in my mouth for customer care, service, and food.

Generally have good experience here. I enjoy when Jimmy is working as I believe he’s one of the managers. Today 5:45 3/8/26 I had an order for my family went in and it took long and they seemed annoyed by the order. The young lady working the cashier doesn’t know how to check out an order and just looked at me to take the order. I didn’t know it was even done. Push it forward make an effort. Learn how to talk with the customer. Despite the food being good. They routinely leave a lot to be desired with to go and am disappointed with the lack of empathy and class.

Damn, craving today was horrible. First off whoever was the cook today had a heavy hand and I’m going to throw up. The Buttermilk pie either had toooo much oil or butter and mushy as hell. Nasty smh. The bake potato was heavy on butter and drowned my food. I had to take the potato out just to put it on my plate WITHOUT ALL THAT BUTTER… this will be in the trash!!! they did a horrible job with this. Lost my damn appreciate.

I made the mistake of going through the drive thru I ordered the 2 meat deal with 2 sides the sides came in a small container which is normal but the 2 meat entrée was real skimpy had 3 maybe 4 thinly sliced brisket and a few pieces of sausage I wasn’t happy at all when I got to work to open a container with barley any food in it

Ate through most of my lunch before finding this in my side of pickles. Was told “sometimes that happens, it’s Texas” Not acceptable, no matter what state this is!

Went for lunch! Got 2 turkey sandwiches with fries and 2 teas. OMG $25.00 really small amount of turkey and fries 🍟 😭. Slow service at drive thru. We won't be back. Fries were soggy and no ketchup.

Sat in line at the drive through for almost 15 mins then gave up and I had to go inside.

I ordered the 3 meat plate, chopped beef, pulled pork and sliced brisket (lean meaning no fat). This was the most tasteless meat I have ever eaten at a bbq place. 27 bucks is the normal and I’m okay with the price but the quality of food is simply disgusting, with all do respect the employees were very customer friendly but sadly the food was horrible. This was my first time trying this place and sadly I will not be going back there.

I usually have a pretty good experience at this location but my chopped beef sandwich was more like chopped fat. Whoever fixed that sandwich today cost you one less customer. No I didn’t call because I work and I didn’t have the energy or time to go back but yea never again. I’ll take my business to smokaholics.

For a first time visitor I was treated with rudeness, impatience, and lack of customer service. I will not be returning mostly due to this… the food I ordered for take out was mediocre at best. This was on a Sunday, and not that crowded…

Well, let me start off by saying I do not stay on that side of town. I live in the Rockwall Texas area. I was visiting my best friend and we decided we wanted to have a baked potato for dinner. When we walked into the restaurant, the lady that was chopping up the meat had on gloves. The lady who was putting the fixings on the potato did not have on gloves. She washed her hands one time but never wore gloves. To fix my food. I think this is very unsanitary and when I sat down to eat the food was not okay. My friend did not like her food as well. When I went to go pay for my food the young lady that was at the cash register, was distracted by something that was in the building. And it took her a minute to take my payment and to give me my food. She apologized but I did not like the atmosphere. This place I'm not for sure what's going on with it but I will not be back to eat at this particular soulman's bbq.

I’m not normally one to complain but this felt necessary. I eat here pretty often and it’s usually really good, but the last 3 times have been nothing short of disappointing. Today for instance, I placed a Togo order the food gets here and I realize its missing items but I let it go cause you know it happens sometimes. well I go to eat my food the whole potato is completely black and rotten and I know they saw this prior because they had to cut the potato open and decided to just put toppings over the rotten parts. Definitely check your food before eating here. Don’t think I will be back.
