My wife and I visited for Valentine’s Day while in town. I am happy to say every single part of the experience was phenomenal. The service, food, drinks, etc. were excellent and Chef Tyler Shortt and his crew deserve recognition for the restaurant they have built. We will be visiting any time we are in Indy!
Amazing from start to finish. The Korean mushroom appetizer could have been a meal in and of itself. Ive never had a scallion pancake, but don't overlook it, because it pairs so nicely with the slightly spicy sauce on the mushrooms. We were seated in a roomy and comfortable booth in the back corner somewhat away from the traffic which was great. Immediately upon being seated we were greeted with water and a champagne toast. Important to note our water glasses were never dry. They must have come by 10 times to refill them which was a really nice touch. For our main course we chose the duck confit and shrimp pasta, both highly recommended by our server, Nick. The duck was out of this world. Fall off the bone tender and just as flavorful as you could imagine. I believe it came on a carrot rissoto which was a perfect pairing. The pasta was also great. For cocktails we both had tequila. He had a take on a Paloma that was the special. It was a little different but still good. I thoroughly enjoyed my spicy marg. We really had not anticipated getting dessert but he couldn't help himself and ordered the ricotta donuts with espresso ice cream and chocolate pearls. He picked the plate clean. Everyone we encountered was attentive and helpful and the food was delicious. We can't wait to go back next time we are in downtown indy.
Have much nostalgia going to Tinker Street back in 2017 on a date (with my now spouse) - that when we ended up visiting Indy to walk down memory lane we just had to try it again. Did not disappoint - even after 8 years this restaurant is a testament to consistency and quality. Started with the summer salad which was fresh and delicious. Got the Salt of the Earth cocktail to pair -super interesting and deceptively strong. Got the crab scampi and black cod as mains. Scampi was delicious, and the cod was truly special-most tender and buttery fish I have ever had - the texture is just on another level. For dessert, our waitress recommended the Pavlova, which was absolutely the right call - just a beautiful fruity palate cleanser; which I subsequently washed down with an equally phenomenal espresso martini. Long live Tinker Street - would love to come yet again whenever we get a chance to do Indy again.
Great restaurant close to downtown. The service is great and the servers are knowledgeable about the menu and wine. They always have a vegan and gluten free entree. When you first sit down you get a small glass of champagne which is a nice touch. On our last visit we got the smoked carrots and they were shockingly good. The carrot soup was excellent and then for entrees I got long trumpet mushrooms and my wife got the Sacchetoni en Brodo. She said hers was good. The peanut parfait is amazing and a must get to finish the meal. It is on the pricier side but it is with it in my opinion.
To mh fellow peeps! Listen if you're looking for a great day place to have a great dinner then go to Tinker Street! A beautiful atmosphere with welcoming staff and super service. This was my first time eating at the Tinker Street and I will say that I will be back again. Again service was impeccable and the food was beyond delicious!!! To JOURDAN IVORY AND NICK I thank you for a great dinner. I will be back. Respectfully always, Dr. Carmela Daniels
Toasts and Tastes: Celebrating Love at Tinker Street Celebrating our one-year anniversary at Tinker Street Restaurant was an absolute delight, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The range of flavors and culinary surprises on the menu surpassed our expectations. Each bite was a revelation, packed with an explosion of delightful tastes that left us pleasantly shocked. The cocktails were nothing short of delicious, complementing the innovative menu perfectly. Our server was incredible—attentive, kind, and truly enhanced our dining experience. The entire staff made us feel genuinely taken care of. Without a doubt, we'll be returning soon to indulge in more of Tinker Street's culinary magic. An unforgettable anniversary celebration!
Such a great and unique menu and restaurant. Everything our group had was absolutely phenomenal and truly so much depth to the taste of the food. PLEASE do yourself a favor and make sure you get the ricotta doughnuts for dessert! To die for !!!
I was blown away! Went for my anniversary. We had a rough start but then the staff including a waiter who wasn’t my waiter made everything amazing. Thank you Sarah( my waitress) and Lisa the manager who helped my wonderful night continue to be so beautiful. The food was excellent and the ambiance was great. 😊I would totally recommend it. Bring your friends or a date! They will knock your socks off. The steak was my favorite dish but that doesn’t mean the pork wasn’t any good..it was also excellent. The food was plated well and everything was so decadent.
Everything about this place screams "upscale local joint". The number of regulars I saw interacting with the staff while here was very wholesome and a little mind-boggling. Shout out to Lily & Sara (sorry if it's the wrong Sara) for taking care of me all night. The staff here works their butts off, and the kitchen is no joke either. You can see in and they are cranking non-stop. Korean Fried Mushrooms are a must-do. I tried the Szechuan Snap peas which were just okay. The main, Carnitas Ragu was really unique and delicious. I concluded with the Ricotta Donuts which are served hot and fresh with a side of espresso ice cream. On a cool summer night, it's hard to do much better than enjoying an evening here with the windows down. I hope I get to return next time I'm in town.
We had an amazing time at the Moroccan dinner event! I never been to Tinker Street before and absolutely loved the vibe! The staff was super friendly and helpful! And who doesn’t love starting a meal with a sip of champagne! Can’t wait to go back and have something off their regular menu!
We decided to try the chef's table with a group of friends in September. I worked with Lisa to find a date and time, informed her of any dietary restrictions / no-go's on specific types of food we had within the group, and established our group consensus on the level of spice. Communication leading up to the evening was great. The menu is a surprise, they do not tell you what you are having prior. You show up and the show begins! We had a squash and eggplant bruschetta paired with a pinot grigio, cold vermicelli (which was wonderful) paired with a vermentino, lamb loin with a carrot puree and a cotes-do-rhone (this was my favorite dish) and finally a miso banana bread with a cognac for dessert. The food was great but I have to say the experience the staff at Tinker Street provides is what makes this special and without a doubt worth the splurge. The chef and the sommelier both explained each dish / wine pairing as they were served. There was no moment once a dish or utensil was finished with that it remained on the table. The staff would just whisk in stealthily and remove it / replace it without interrupting any conversation. Waters were always full. Cocktails were always offered to be replenished once they started getting low. The entire experience was just lovely - I could not recommend this more. Prices vary a bit but ours was $80 / person for the menu plus $50 / person for the wine pairing. Very fair overall for the quality of the food and the experience. Even if you don't do the chef's table, this little place is a gem in Indianapolis and is wonderful for a charcuterie board and drinks!
Had a business trip in Indy back in January and Tinker Street came highly recommended by a colleague and I'm glad they did! Great spot, excellent staff and the owner is on TOP of it. I could've chatted with him well past closing. I had their last stuffed Quail and it was an 11 out of 10.
Fantastic restaurant. All dishes are extremely high quality with a rotating menu. Cocktail offerings are also top notch. Book ahead because they are always busy, for good reason. Perfect for a special occasion or date night.
Really cute high-end restaurant in downtown Indianapolis. The food has a modern touch. Personally, the fried korean mushrooms are a must. They are meaty and really flavorful, and the radish is delicious. Oysters are good, but in my opinion too pricey (half a dozen for $25 if I remember correctly). For the main dishes: the stuffed quail was really tasty, but I would have appreciated if the quail was totally deboned, or if a slightly bigger quail was used. The sacchetoni in brodo was really flavorful and melted in your mouth. The broth was deep and intense. The scallops were perfectly cooked and tender, as well as the pork belly. The server, Nick, did an outstanding job. He was really accommodating for a peanut allergy at our table. He was funny and really personable and his recommendations were on point. Bonus points if the bread was free. Overall 10/10 and we will come back if we are in the area. Great work to everyone who works there!
10/10 food and service - jen was the best server & happy as a clam to tell us how amazing the food is. she was right omg, everything was to die for. loved every minute of it, will definitely be back!! alert the people and tell them about the goooood food !!
Delicious dinner and great staff! We have great cocktails and loved everything we ordered! If I’m ever back in Indy I would consider this a must visit
This was such a beautiful little place. The food was delicious, the staff were awesome. We started with a Charcuterie board. My husband and I got the steak meal and my brother in law got the pizza special. We had a bottle of wine and my husband had a whiskey drink w a cookie in it lol. We got dessert too!! Delicious!! We would definitely go back!!
We loved Tinker Street! We've never gone before and our first time was NYE. The staff and the atmosphere was great, and the food was flawless. This will be one of my favorites in Indy to return to very, very soon.
Years living in Indianapolis and I had never come to this place, big mistake! Tinker Street became one of my favorite restaurants in the city, its cozy and simple atmosphere and good service make you feel very well when you arrive, they welcome you with a nice champagne to start. We tried the korean fried mushrooms as a starter, very delicious and for the main course we tried the carrot gnocchi with tenderloin, the pork chop, all the flavors were unique and spectacular, we ordered a mezcal drink that was amazing, the margaritas were spicy but delicious and we finished with a dessert of ricotta doughnuts, 100% recommended, you can notice the quality in each of its ingredients, going to this place is to leave very satisfied!
Where do I start! It was my first time. Cloe my server answered all my questions. Very attentive. Food was excellent! Sirloin was prepared different than what I’m use to but it was perfect! The banana pudding was perfect. The drinks were top tier! I will recommend and be back myself.
It really doesn’t get better than this place! The best food, drinks, atmosphere- always have to try something new because they find a way to make anything delicious. The Korean fried mushrooms were my favorite the past trip to Tinker Street. They’re always changing up the menu here too 😊
Amazing. Mouth watering. Appetite satisfying. This was an absolute experience. I was so thoroughly please with the class and courtesy as well as friendliness of the staff. The entire meal was an experience and left my taste buds wanting more. The salad had me thrown back and completely loss for words. The flavors and textures blended wonderfully. The pork belly dish was prestinely cooked and properly finished with the right amount of heat and zing. This meal was one of the best meals I've had in quite a long time. Not only was the food amazing but the staff also was knowledgeable and quick. Hats off to the owner for this experience.
Absolutely incredible dining experience. Cozy restaurant with plenty of little touches- blankets on chairs, complimentary champagne- with the best fried mushrooms I've had. The kimchi is astoundingly good and the service incredible. My photos don't do justice to the plating. Jennifer was an awesome server! The Great: Korean mushrooms, Ssam, Paloma mocktail The Good: Shrimp and grits, ginger mocktail, the duck Other: Apple dutch baby, yellowtail sashimi Edit: 4 months later and I'm still thinking about their fried mushroom app. BUY THAT.
My wife and I had the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous meal for a spontaneous date night. Everything that Tinker Street had to offer was simply perfect. Some of the most attentive and well-mannered staff we have encountered. The craft cocktails were absolutely delicious and the food was perfectly cooked and prepared flawlessly. I highly encourage anyone to make Tinker Street their next destination for a date night destination.
Another Indy Gem! What a great experience. From the select list of local cocktails to an exceptional menu which is served with almost flawless service and attention. Even though we did not have a reservation, after a decent wait, we were seated with typical charming mid-western hospitality. The Pork Belly was truly exceptional. But please don't get this is you are not into very bold, very rich, intense flavors. If you are into this, then this is executed to perfection. This is definitely a cozy place with some tight quarters but well worth it. Will definitely be going back to try other items on the menu.
Great cocktails and food! Loved everything that we tried here! The Korean fried mushrooms and the Garden Party cocktail were my most favorite.
Had an AMAZING dinner here! Loved the touch of the Tinker Toast to start off the meal. Each dish we had was delicious — we were so sad we couldn’t try dessert, too (had to make a pick up at the airport). The service was great, the food was better, and the ambiance was spot on. Even though we were seated outside, it was covered, adequately heated, and they provided a fleece blanket. Will definitely come back here when I visit again!
Great dining place for organic / farm-to-table tasty entrees (and desserts 🍨) . Server was very attentive. Relaxing atmosphere.
This place is a gem. 💎 Came here early on eclipse day with my grandma and they got us in right before the dinner rush without reservations. I had the Brussels sprouts to start and then the sirloin. Both were delicious but the brussel sprouts blew my mind. Great service. This was a great way to end a really nice day. I would recommend this place.
Food was incredible!!! each dish we tried was combined with extremely tasty flavors. Besides the food, the service was phenomenal! we felt very welcomed and felt like you are a guest in one of your very hospitable friend’s home. Evan was an amazing server, his recommendations were on point and he tailored the food to our taste buds. We really enjoyed our time and we will definitely revisit
High quality contemporary American cuisine in a casual atmosphere. Locally sourced menu that changes seasonally. Nice wine list. Dishes presented elegantly and service is very attentive without being stuffy. Not inexpensive and portions are moderate. This is not Buca Di Beppo folks! Plan about 90 minutes for a leisurely dinner. Only adults 21 and over. Reserve well in advance if you want to dine between 6 and 8 pm. Enjoy!
Great restaurant for a special occasion! Wonderful wine and cocktail list, and a sommelier to help make decisions. Miso oysters are excellent, and many vegan/vegetarian options. Highly, highly recommend!
One of the finest dining experiences in Indy. From the moment you're welcomed with the signature "Tinker Toast", the atmosphere is warm, cozy, inviting, and impeccably executed from start to finish. The food is exceptional. The lobster bisque-rarely on the menu-is the best I have ever had anywhere, and every dish I've tried has been nothing short of divine! Each plat reflects thoughtful craftsmanship and flawless execution. I've dined here many times for special events, chef's table, and dinners with friends & family, and I have never been disappointed. The service is outstanding...attentive without being intrusive-and the experience is well worth the price. Quaint, elegant, and truly special! Simply perfect! oh yeah, Thursday's are burger nights--a different burger each Thursday.
I was visiting my son and his partner in Indy, and they took me to this beautiful restaurant for a belated birthday meal last week. I had the duck confit, which was fantastic, as were all our food choices. The ambience was beautiful, food was delicious. But I am mainly writing because the service was among the best I've ever had! Thank you Sarah Wicker, you were amazing! Thank you for guiding all of us with our food and (especially) wine choices. Your knowledge, professionalism, sincerity and kindness were incredible. You helped make this such a memorable evening for all of us. Thank you so much!!
Oh my the food was unbelievably delicious. For starters the Brussels sprouts were unbelievable (and I don’t like Brussels sprouts). The flavor was deep and layered. I chose the rib eye which was pared with the most unbelievable semi glaze and a nutty mascarpone. My date chose the duck which I also typically don’t like but was very delicious. The standard desert appears to be the homemade donuts that were mind bogglingly good. The place is small but they bring it with energy. The service was fabulous. I have never eaten at a better restaurant.
Hosted our office holiday party here and had an amazing experience. The food was excellent, the drinks were great, and the service was absolutely phenomenal. The staff was incredibly attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly all night. Highly recommend for any group or special event.
Upscale local vibes with amazing staff and a nonstop open kitchen. Korean fried mushrooms are a must the carnitas ragu was very excellent and the ricotta donuts with espresso ice cream were the perfect finish would absolutely return.
If you know great food in Indianapolis, you know Tinker Street. The menu is built for foodies (let’s be honest) but also has some dishes that will please less less exotic diners. And their long-term staff sets the standards for superb personal service. They have been on our list of top three restaurants in Indianapolis for the past 20 years – really. If you haven’t tried it, you are missing something. Don’t miss it.
It was my first time at Tinker Street and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was warm and attentive and the champagne to start was a lovely bonus. Looking forward to returning.
4-Star Review for Tinker Street Tinker Street nails it with exceptional service and solid food in a cozy, intimate setting. The restaurant is definitely on the smaller side—think charming, not cramped (unless you’re claustrophobic, then… maybe charming and cramped). The food? Good. Not “write home to grandma” good, but definitely “text your foodie friend” good. Creative flavors, nice presentation, and portions that won’t leave you hangry. Now, let’s talk about the unsung hero of the night: the Water Guy. I don’t know his name, but this man treats hydration like a calling. I swear I never saw the bottom of my glass. He refilled it like he was defusing a bomb—calm, precise, and absolutely not here for your thirst. Give that man a raise. Or a cape. Only odd thing? The bathrooms are just a few steps from the kitchen. Not a huge deal, but it’s a little weird when your path to the restroom feels like you might accidentally be mistaken for a sous-chef. Overall, a great experience. Come for the food, stay for the water.
We were here for early dinner. Service was impeccable. I'm lactose intolerant and the waiter worked with the chef to mark the menu options they could provide dairy free (see photos). That personal touch is unique and exemplifies the service quality. The vegan bao buns were a hit. Very tasty and tender. Unfortunately, there was way too much aioli in the risotto. The scallops were very tasty but quite salty, which was a shame. The duck was very crispy but wasn't flavorful. The sauce needed more depth, more flavor, more complexity.
Food was good, with some dishes being so good (carrot gnocchi was richly flavorful and texturally ethereal) they made it hard to be impressed or excited by the others (halibut was technically flawless with [almost-boringly] classic flavor choices). Desserts stole the show; strawberry ice cream with crystallized basil and fig ice cream were outstanding and the ricotta donuts are not to be missed. In other words, Tinker Street's return is a welcomed one!
Went to celebrate our 18th anniversary, and do our tradition of trying something new. First off, the food was amazing and our waitress was very spot on with recommendations. However, their moto shouldn't be "make your special evening one to remember at Tinker Street" or claim "we are the perfect spot for a romantic date night", as it is certainly more corner bar meets bistro. Not my ideal spot to try and feel romantic. For the price of admission, so to speak, I would much rather have something like Union 50 or Vida. The food can certainly hold up to the cost. However I am going for the total experience, and this just wasn't it. We had: -Korean Fried Mushrooms -Cheese & Charcuterie Board -The Duck w/duck egg -Pork Belly Pastor -Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake -Matcha Cake w/espresso ice cream -Four Roses Biscof Old Fashioned -Bone Chiller
Tinker Street in Indianapolis exceeded all expectations! The pork chops were tender and packed with flavor, perfectly cooked. The addition of peaches with seasonal vegetables added a nice sweetness to the savory dish. The warm ambiance and friendly staff made the dining experience even more enjoyable. 🍽️😍🌟
Great food, great customer service. I have couple of stuff I was not very happy with 1. The tables for two are way too close to other tables, could hear our neighbors conversations. 2. The arctic char meal had too much sweet sauce for my taste. The Brussel sprouts were delicious, my favourite meal. We were served desert because our meals took long time to come(which was very nice gesture). The desert itself was not that amazing.
My husband and I came in for the first time this weekend. The service was nothing short of spectacular! Having a bubbles toast to start the evening was chef's kiss! We started with two cocktails off their specials menu and both were insanely delicious and each offered a new take. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly and he nearly cleaned the plate. As a vegan, I ordered the curried cauliflower. The cauliflower steak was cooked well and delicious. The sauce, however, was very sweet and acidic, almost like pure apple juice with a hint of cinnamon (I assume it was the pomegranate molasses). My potatoes were a little under, as well as my rice. I wanted to love it, but couldn't. We were so excited for the peanut parfait but it was unfortunately not being offered when we went to order desserts. While I wasn't 100% satisfied with my food, we agreed we would love to come back when the next iteration of the menu comes out. We really loved everything about our experience except for my main plate. I can't say enough about the wonderful service!!
TLDR: Finally tried Tinker Street after years of hearing great things. The staff were wonderful, but in my opinion the food felt confusing at times and didn’t quite justify the price. This review focuses mostly on the food and reflects my own taste and experience. Everyone’s palate is different, and since the menu changes often, your visit could feel completely different. After living in Indianapolis for five years since moving from New York City, I was excited to finally see what all the hype was about. I had always hesitated because the prices seemed a bit steep, but we decided to give it a try with a 5:45 pm reservation. We were first seated behind the hostess counter. The area felt a bit tight, which didn’t bother us much, but the direct sunlight streaming through the front door made it difficult to sit comfortably. The staff immediately helped us move to a better table, which we really appreciated. The menu was creative and playful with strong fusion influences, so we ordered a variety of dishes to get a fair sense of the food. The Korean Fried Mushrooms ($22) were crispy and flavorful, but the small rice flour pancake underneath seemed unnecessary. It wasn’t seasoned and there was only one so not enough to wrap the mushrooms and felt out of place. We both thought a light dipping sauce would have brought the dish together better than the kimchi served alongside. The Coconut Curry Soup ($12) was warm and pleasant but not especially memorable. The Whipped Pumpkin Ricotta ($22) from the fall menu was something I wanted to love, but it was heavy on cinnamon and tasted more like pumpkin pie filling than a savory dip... it was confusing. The Circle City Sweets baguette served with it was excellent, though it was the same baguette offered with the Fried Brussels Sprouts ($23). Fried brussels sprouts and baguette felt like an odd pairing. It seemed like the bread was included just to fill out the plate for the price. For our mains, we ordered the Curried Cauliflower Steak ($29) and the Shrimp and Farfalle ($34). The cauliflower dish was disappointing. The rice was undercooked, the potatoes were too firm, and the cauliflower itself wasn’t tender inside. It also had an overwhelming amount of pomegranate molasses that made it intensely acidic. The first bite was all sour with no balance, and the sauce tasted almost identical to the soup we had earlier, which didn’t help. The dish was so off that neither of us could eat it, and we decided to send it back which is a first for us. The staff kindly offered a replacement, but we were too turned off by the flavors and declined. The Shrimp and Farfalle was much better. The shrimp had a beautiful char and were juicy and flavorful. The pasta was a little mushy and some pieces stuck together, but overall this was one of our favorites of the night. For dessert, we tried the Ricotta Doughnuts ($12). They came out warm and the texture was slightly dense but not bad. We've had better ricotta doughnuts. The espresso ice cream they were served with though, was fantastic. What really made the evening positive was the staff. They were kind, professional, and attentive the entire night. When we declined a replacement for the cauliflower dish, they took it off the bill and even removed a few other items, likely because of the earlier seating issue. In our opinion, several dishes missed the mark, especially for the high prices, so expect to spend if you go. We felt that we paid a premium for food that didn’t fully deliver on flavor or execution. There were definitely some highlights, but overall the experience didn’t feel worth the total cost.
First of all, service was great no problem, quick response and informative. Sadly our food was bit too salty, soup was fine tho. We were surprised to see the size of oysters, they're small and don't taste fresh, they soak it in lime juice (normally everywhere it'll be just a tiny squeeze) so it was purely taste of lime instead of oyster. Duck meat taste so salty, honestly it was too much usage of hoisin sauce for my liking. The cocktails were amazing, no problem. Definitely a bit too overpriced
Went here after doing some research and not wanting to wait for an hour for Bluebeard. Should have done so. Small to medium portions. Overpriced appetizers, and honestly I only liked the pork tenderloin. Also server didn't do anything despite mentioning my mom's birthday.
I have gone to this restaurant 3x’s now. I am plant-based & I decided to try the cauliflower steak. The first time it was great. The second time it was average… and the third time I just wanted to try some of their soup. I ordered two soups to go… and the photo is the amount they gave me in both containers and it was $12 each. I honestly was a bit confused at first wondering if someone accidentally didn’t put the rest of the soup in the container… but according to the person on the phone you get around 4-5oz for the $12. So I guess maybe this is the accurate amount? Anyways… either way I was beyond disappointed and I really, really wanted to love this place! …but I don’t think I will be coming back… ugh. I’m annoyed! I wanted to live Tinker Street! 😩😩😩😩😩
