They say never eat on the promenade of a major tourist resort. But rules are made to be broken. We really enjoyed the typical Italian pasta here. Tasty, simple, and you KNOW you will feel good about it even the next day. Lovely. Maybe only the radio was a little bit annoying, otherwise 5*.

We came back here because we had such a wonderful experience back in 2018. But even thou it was the same owners we didn't feel welcome this time. The food was excellent but we felt like we were scolded for not knowing that they only have a digital menu now.... so we took way to long to find out what we wanted to eat. It was our wedding anniversary and we had hoped for a really nice evening.... but it kind of flopped.....

The food is what is keeping this place alive! It was delicious! The building and location is wonderful. The staff….shocking. I get that they’re understaffed. But seriously the service was terrible. People were leaving because they waited so long they didn’t even have a menu. We were one of the lucky ones. The staff rather than serve or clean the many dirty tables decided to play fight by throwing ice at each other…between the tables! I feel very sorry for the kitchen staff because they are putting out good food and I really didn’t want to leave a bad review but the wait staff are terrible! Especially the guy. We had to ask for our wine as our food had already arrived, and so did the table next to us. We also had to pay a €4 cover charge!!! No idea why because they didn’t visit the table to ask if we needed anything. Sadly I don’t pulse only come back if the staff situation is better because paying a cover charge for that mess is terrible!

Too bad.. we have been tripped by the location and the idea of a typical Osteria, but the service was below standard and one of the dishes “manzo all’olio” was made with old and badly tasting meat.. we were forced to send it back and ask refund. Pity, the place could have potential but let us down on multiple fronts

Don’t come here. Rude and scammy manager/server. First, got mad sass from the server/manager when ordering. Second, the cheese inside the casoncelli pasta I ordered had gone bad (and she was the one who recommended I order that filling). Third, when I went to pay, that same server/manager tried to not show me the bill and just said the total out loud to me and handed me the credit card machine assuming I’d just pay without looking. When I asked to see the actual bill so I could read it, it had TWO coperti (tip) charges instead of one. Scamming a solo female traveler?! And the *only* patron inside your restaurant? BOOOOO. Enjoy your evening elsewhere as the vibes here are just bad. Don’t love saying that as I generally love most humans — but this ain’t it! Re: the response below from the owner… I did mention it right away. If you read what I wrote above, you’ll see that the manager tried to hide the double coperti charge from me by not giving me the bill and just telling me the total verbally. I insisted on seeing the bill, when she gave it to me, I said “this has two coperti charges” and only THEN she said “oh sorry” and took off the extra charge. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time — but her attitude toward me every time we interacted this evening was rude and uninviting. I stand by what I’ve said here.

Update: If you start making great food and providing good service - you want get bad reviews. Your place was the worst experience I had during a week holiday I Italy, I’m really sad to say. Old review: Unfortunately, my experience at Osteria Cancelli was highly disappointing. The quality of the food was notably poor, leaving much to be desired. The service was also lacking, failing to meet even basic expectations. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience that fell far short in terms of both food and service.
