As a coffee aficionado, I can say the cappuccino here is really good. They have a great variety of coffee beans to choose from, and the shop has a nice vibe. The only downside is that they serve coffee in paper cups instead of real mugs. Also, there are no tables inside - seating is available only outside.
DELICIOUS! strong coffee & ALEXANDRA IS THEE BEST!!! everyone -amazing customer service & just 10/10 coffeee flavor! there light roast is delightful!
cute and conveniently located coffee shop in Joshua tree. I really enjoyed the dirty chai 💖.
the coffee here is the best coffee ive ever had. i dont even know how to describe it but the flavor is truly incredible. i see a lot of people saying it tastes burnt or bitter but to me it just tastes really really good. theres just such a unique depth and dimension to it. please never change. ive never had coffee like this anywhere else and i dont even know where else i would find it. i bought a bag of dark roast beans and i smell it all the time because the smell is just intoxicating. also the caffeine buzz i get from the lattes here is unlike any other. im not sure how its possible but it hits stronger and better than anywhere else. my favorites are the iced latte and mocha. also the shop itself and patio are really cute. and i love the pink bags and cute merch. thanks for doing what you do. 100/10
Despite it being overly busy, the guy taking my order, I think his name is N, literally took the time to spell my name correctly. The coffee wasn’t scolding hot, was made JUST right. The coffee has some seriously layered flavors, which made me purchase a bag! Recommend for welcoming people and savory coffee.
Stopped for a cup of coffee after we left Joshua tree national park on our way to the coast. This shop is so cute!! The smell of the coffee roasting when you walk in was the absolute best!! I got an iced caramel coffee. The coffee is so smooth, the caramel not overpowering, just perfectly balanced! We will definitely stop back anytime we're in this area.
Had the pleasure of coming here with the recommendation of my lovely boyfriend. Always up for an adventure especially when it comes to trying new coffee spots, we had two cold brew lattes with oat and simple syrups. They have this delicious chocolate chip vegan cookie and you wouldn’t know the difference if it wasn’t on the label. Great place to stop by around 8am before the crowds pick up. Not many parking spots available unless you go around the establishment. Service was attentive, definitely need a minute to check the menu beforehand.
I was traveling and visited Joshua Tree National Park when I stumbled upon this coffee shop. I decided to give their coffee a try and was incredibly impressed! The aroma was delightful, and the flavor from their excellent roasting was outstanding. I have to say, this is truly a hidden gem in the middle of the desert!
Decent organic coffee, with room for improvement (3.5/5 Green Stars) I didn’t make it inside, but I heard that it’s lovely. The coffee beans are pretty good (although many on Reddit have issues with their coffee and think it's overrated). I had the Mellow Ethiopian (light roast) and The First Roast (medium/dark roast blend of Colombian, Honduran and Ethiopian beans). I would say go for the Mellow Ethiopian if choosing between the two, depending on your roast preference. Even if you don’t make it to the café, you’ll find their coffee all over the region – The Dez and the Frontier Café, for example (both excellent places with lots of veggie options). I’m giving Joshua Tree Coffee 3.5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: • All beans are certified organic. This is one of the best certifications to look out for if you want to buy coffee that has a lower environmental impact. It’s not as good as shade-grown – the Smithsonian’s Bird-friendly certification requires that beans are both organic and shade-grown. • A write-up in the LA Times from 2014 mentions that some beans were fair trade certified. However, none of the beans currently on sale are fair trade certified. This is unfortunate – for beans that sell for $18-22 per 12 oz. ($24-29 per lb.) I’d expect either fair trade certified or some reputable direct trade relationships. • There’s surprisingly little on the website about coffee sourcing. At the moment there’s one single-origin coffee (Sulawesi Sunrise) with a short blurb based on the green coffee supplier’s blurb. • The blog only contains one blog post, targeting Bulletproof Coffee – I was hoping for more detail on the company and the beans. • It’s great that they have committed to organic beans for all products but there are two areas for improvement: • One: Improving their social impact by sourcing some fair trade beans or developing an equitable direct trade relationship with some farmers. • Two: This is less critical, but it would be nice to see them use compostable packaging. • They are very well marketed beans, with a nice Joshua tree logo on the package but there is definitely room for improvement on both the social and environmental fronts. As the company has grown in size they have dropped the fair trade standard that was once touted in the LA Times article that helped them rise to prominence. • Compare their beans to mission-driven companies like Counter Culture that publish prices paid directly to farmers for green coffee and also use compostable packaging.
Joshua Tree Coffee is a gem in the heart of the desert, offering some of the freshest, most flavorful coffee. If you are a coffee enthusiast this is the spot for you, whether it’s hot or iced. What sets this roastery apart is its commitment to organic, small-batch roasting and a deep respect for sustainability and community. It’s coffee that’s not only ethically sourced but also bursting with rich, complex flavor. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their craft. If you're visiting the Joshua Tree area, the café is worth a stop, just minutes from the national park. Just a bit sadden no cookies were available when I went.
TL; DR—This cute, cozy coffee spot has friendly staff and fresh, on-site roasted beans. The coffee is good, and the vibe is excellent, though it can get busy. It would be even better with indoor seating. 4 out of 5 stars. Service: The staff is super friendly and efficient. Even with a morning crowd, they keep things moving smoothly, making the wait feel shorter. They give off a welcoming vibe, which adds to the experience. Food (Coffee): I tried the Black Eye (drip coffee with two espresso shots), and it was solid—strong and smooth. They offer light and dark roasts, so there’s something for everyone. It's not the best coffee ever, but it’s fresh. Atmosphere: It’s a tiny, cute shop with a cozy, local feel. It gets busy in the mornings, and since there’s no indoor seating, it’s more of a grab-and-go spot. Some seating would improve it, but it’s still a quick stop. MISC: They roast their beans on-site, and you can buy some. They also sell merch if you’re into that. Overall, it is a solid place for coffee, but it would be even better with a place to sit and chill. There is plenty of street parking.
coffee shop owns own rostery.. coffee itself is tasty.. ive asked for latte art and was told it can only be done in a latte not in a flat white.. so i said ok whatever - u just love latte art thats the most important.. pics show what i got.. .. well .. far from latte art.. the ladies were friendly the guy not so much.. location is perfect.. and the color of the paper cup: AMAZING!
Super cute swag sold inside however, the wait can't be a lot and they only had one person working. There are parking spaces right out front. The milk was steamed pretty perfectly for my mocha but the flavor was highly intense. Not sure if it was an espresso dial issue or if the beans were just burnt but I didn't end up drinking my drink.
*update Eric from Joshua Tree Coffee did reach out to me and offer a partial refund as well as sending me a bag of coffee he thought would be more to my tastes. He says their roasts are considered more traditional and darker than the current trends. To me this doesn't explain the inconsistency of the roast itself, this needs work, but I respect the reason behind it. I had recently ordered two bags of the Mellow Ethiopian. I was excited to try it especially since its a light roast. Upon receiving it looking at the beans it was clear that the beans were inconsistent in their roast and far darker than a light roast. The beans were also oily which should never be the case for a light roast since light roasts aren't roasted enough to bring the oils to the surface. The beans were extremely inconsistent in colour. And I tried both eating one of the lighter beans and one of the darker which proved their entirely inconsistent in taste too. The only plus I will give is that it is freshly roasted and you can tell, but the roast is not at all as described. I reached out to the company and they haven't responded. I bought 8lbs to avoid the shipping cost, I at minimum expected I would receive a light roast like advertised. If you look at your reviews can you issue a refund to order #174023
Great location! During my recent weeks long stay in JT this was a staple. The line can either be wrapped around the corner or quick walk-in and order. Pleasant, swift service. Coffee was pretty good both cold & hot; even bought a specialty blend bean to take home. Roasted in-house with bags of several blends available for purchase along with other merch. Outdoor seating on the rear patio.
The shop is very nice. It was clean amd well decorated. I stopped by to get a pound of locally roasted coffee beans. It was busy and it was about a 30 minute wait in line. Opened the bag the next morning to make coffee. This is the most over roasted coffee I have ever purchased. The beans are very dark and super oily. The coffee comes out very bitter. Not worth the wait.
Long line on a late Sunday morning, but it moved quickly. I haven't been here since they expanded from being just a tiny counter in the back of the building,, and the interior is very clean and cute. I liked their merch too. The employees were nice, but unfortunately the espresso was bad. My boyfriend got a cappuccino and I got an iced vanilla latte. His cappuccino was super overextracted, so it was incredibly bitter, as was my vanilla latte, but it was covered up somewhat by the milk. We ended up throwing our drinks away 😕
Went two days in a row, ordered a latte, a mocha and a flat white. All three tasted burnt. We gave it a second try, but the result was the same. Got a cappuccino at a brewery in 29 Palms that was so much better than anything we got here. Too bad, it is a cute store and there don't seem to be any other options in Joshua Tree.
Not great coffee. Especially for the price. Tastes burnt and flavorless, as many other reviewers have mentioned. Vibe is a bit pretentious. Stars for the interior decorating/atmosphere. That aspect is really nice. And they have it down with the logo/branding. Some people must like their coffee enough because they are still in business years later.. kind of surprised, honestly.
I wanted to like this place but I was disappointed. When we finally made it to the counter to order (after a 15 minute wait) we were greeted with the heads up that any espresso order, including hot chocolate, would be a 45 minute wait. No biggie for me, I only drink cold brew. My friends do and declined to wait. However, more bad news, they offer a nitro cold brew but they were out of nitro. I went with a regular cold brew. Alas, it was trash. Tasted more like an iced Americano and was no good. We got a couple of cookies and they weren't good either. My friends had gone a couple of days prior and liked it but were disappointed this time around. I don't plan to visit again.
They were trying for a vibe, but it was really disappointing. There was a 20 minute wait for espresso drinks despite several baristas on two machines. As a former barista, I was cringing at the slow/nonchalant pace of the staff. I watched my drink sit by the machine for many, many minutes while they pulled shots very slowly and casually. There were 20-30 people packed in there waiting for drinks. We also ordered mochas that were missing the "mocha" and were left plain. It honestly felt like they were making the long wait part of the aesthetic. I'd skip this place and make a pour over at home.
I bought a ”Mellow Ethiopian” light roast, dated 18th of Nov 2025, from the roaster. The roast can be seen in the picture on the right, next to a medium / medium-light roast from another company. The roast is ”dark” as one can see. The beans have started to surface the oil and are quite crusty. Maybe a problem with the batch being roasted while not even close to a light roast as advertized.
Update - Zero response from the company when I shared roast date and photos. That’s quality customer service right there… Inconsistent at best. First order of the First Roast was fantastic. Zero bitterness as I was recommended. I bought the 4lb bag to avoid shipping and it showed up looking like it just took a bath in olive oil. Light to Medium roasts should never look that oily, and neither did my first batch. Unless it's old or burnt - which is what it tastes like. When I reached out to the company. All they could tell me was what ratio of beans to coffee to use. I weigh out my coffee and water daily. I know what I'm doing. Disappointing.
