The beef enchiladas were very tasty. The plate was full to the edges with a complete tex mex presentation. I usually always have leftovers from such a meal for another future snack. Not this time. I ate it all!

Food here is amazing. Great menu and huge portions. Selection is mouthwatering especially the country fried chicken steak. Had the bourbon baby back ribs - dang, best ribs I've ever tried!!! A LOCAL Jewel on the I-10, perfect place for a hearty meal in an authentic Houstonian restaurant. The big chimney gives this place a warm ambiance. The local has a country decoration full of cowboy accesories that made me feel far from the city, maybe in a hut. Staff is friendly and efficient. I asked some questions about the menu and those were solved easily because our waiter cleary knew the menu and the dish flavors. As appetizer we had the smokin’ guacamole it came with warm chips next to it. My husband had a chicken salad, he was happy because, it was big!. I ordered blacken’d grilled cat fish, it came over a rice bed. And it included two sides, I picked the fried sweet potatoes and the creamed spinach. Everything was delicious and portion were generous. Definitely come back to try their famous fried chicken.

This was my first time at Pappy’s. This place has great food! I had the Chicken Sandwich with the Monterey Jack Cheese. It was awesome. Drew was my server and he recommended that sandwich and the fantastic Blackberry Cobbler too with Vanilla Ice Cream. Wow that was good! The team at Pappy’s really seem serious about providing awesome service. They really care! The manager Michael came over to my table to ask how I liked the food. This is a great place. First visit here and it's amazing they boast about having one of the best chicken fried steaks in Texas and they delivered. I've had them all over and it was just amazing. Tons of flavor in each bite, great mashed potatoes, great gravy. Sweet tea is a little less sweet then what I would call sweet tea but that's about the only complaint I have.

Great selection of "Texas Comfort Food" from fried chicken, chicken fried steak to Tex-Mex. The restaurant is very large and has a private dining room that can be rented out. I had the chicken fried chicken sandwich with fries. The serving size was large and the food was very tasty. Others at my table had fish tacos that they raved about. Prices were fair and the service decent.

Best chicken tenders I've ever had. Bartender was incredibly attentive and extremely personable. We were on a first name basis by the end of my dinner, and that was after only one beer!!

This is an old favorite we have not been to because of Covid. We showed up at 2:50 pm to avoid crowds. The service was excellent but the Hostess was not social distancing diners, even though there were only 8 tables occupied. 5 groups were seated right next to each other. This is not smart or considerate. We immediately asked to be sat further from the other diners. The service was excellent which we are used to at Pappy's. We both ordered their chicken tenders. Their breading has a flavor unlike any other chicken tenders in town. Prices have definitely gone up but that's par for the course today at any eat-in restaurant. We had leftovers to take home which we will enjoy tonight. We are not eating dinner out very often but Pappy's will be on our short list to stay, post-covid.

This place is amazing! I went with my family and everything we order tasted great. The chicken tenders are to die for and you get a lot of food for your money, also they are known for their chicken fried steak which was amazing. The service was wonderful as well. This place gets pretty crowded and loud but it is all worth it!

Lunch was fantastic, server was polite and knowledgeable of the menu, being my first time there. Food came at a very reasonable time, was hot and very delicious. Will definitely return again.

A drop in the bucket considering all of the other good reviews. This place has been here for a while: it's a nice country spot and the food is always good. Plenty of parking spots, and never a wait for walk-in dining. Seems like a good family spot and people are even comfortable coming here solo. I've also noticed a lot of senior citizens here- so it must be a good fit for that demographic. I always order the buffalo chicken tenders and sweet potato fries (the picture doesn't do it justice). It's so good! I've had appetizers and a few other things, can't really go wrong with anything here. My only feedback for improvement: the ranch and chipotle dips are super watery. I wish they were a normal consistency.

This place was greatness. Our server was amazing. The country fried steak is bigger than anything I've seen in a while. Definitely a must stop. We tried to eat as much as we could and I don't regret it! The pictures are shrimp and grits. Country fried steak A side of shrimp and macaroni and cheese. Creamy poblano soup, which was amazing. Stopped in and had a quick lunch and I’m glad I did. I ordered the fried fish and shrimp and the plate was huge. Large enough for 2 people. I also had a dessert the blackberry cobbler and it was super delicious. You definitely need to go for yourself!

Wow, Pappy’s exceeded my expectations. I expected this to be a bland and vanilla establishment. Instead I saw an eye pleasing, inviting and well planned Restaraunt. Don’t come here thinking that it’s cafe style. It’s an eye appealing Restaraunt. They have many niceties to look at. They have 2 break out rooms for private events. The main dining is separated in to 3 zones. There is a full bar with tv monitors. I found the menu to be very appealing. Many choices to please a changing crowd. Prices were reasonable. Portions were plentiful. I did not leave here hungry by any means.

This is place has a great menu and the chicken fried steak was incredible. The portions are large and delicious. Want to try something different next time we go. Our server Drew did a great job and the bartender that night took good care of us.

I haven't been in here in 10 years since it was a place called Texas Land and Cattle. The decor looks about the same as before but with better lighting. I took a work friend here for lunch recently and we both got Chicken Fried steak lunches and I have to say, it was one of the best Chicken Fried steaks I have had in a long time. Big steak, fork tender, tight breading, great sides. I'll be back. This place gets pretty busy at lunch so either come early or come a little later.

My husband and I were really surprised at how amazing the food was here! I got the guacamole burger and he got the grilled salmon with the broccoli and creamed spinach sides. He said he wished the salmon was a little bigger for the price, but that it was really delicious nonetheless. My guacamole burger was to DIE for! The wait wasn’t too long, the staff were really friendly, and the atmosphere was clean, cozy, and full of families. We are already planning on going back to try more items from the menu!

Great restaurant with an awesome menu, a full bar, excellent food, and superb service. You can't go wrong here. Enjoy.

Came in for the CFS and loved everything they had. Appetizers, Mushrooms and Onion Rings(thin strings which I love) were delicious, salad was good sized, and as expected the CFS was outstanding. Service was great and we sat in the bar area. Several big screens to watch and some great local craft beers on tap! Highly recommend this spot for a great meal!

I was on lunch break for work before I had found this gem. Their jalapeno poppers (Scorpion tails) are delicious and it's something that I would love to eat daily. Terry's service was superb and his energy was great. I would recommend this to family and I will definitely be back with others.

This place is my NEW favorite restaurant to visit when I am in Houston. Daniel made me and my partner feel welcomed and went above and beyond to make our two visits the best. Had a great meal here tonight. Started with Grilled Scorpain Tails. Excellent mild heat from Jalapeños and tender grilled shrimp. Next up was the Chicken Fried Steak, fork tender and cooked slightly better than medium, the gravy was superb. I'm going to be looking for a reason to come back here.

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in town! The staff is super friendly and the food is delicious. You can literally order anything on their menu and be completely satisfied. So far I've had and loved the meat loaf, shrimp enchiladas, and the chicken florentine. What's also a plus is that this restaurant is so close to my hotel room! I'm for sure making this place my go-to every time I come to Houston for work. I also highly recommend their Key Lime Pie! Trust me, it smacks.

The staff are amazing! They are a pleasure to talk to and and responsive to customer needs. I’ve eaten here twice. I’ve tried the chicken version of a Philly cheesesteaks, cheeseburger, onion rings, fried okra and Texas smashed potatoes. The food is good and reasonably priced. It always taste fresh. It is cooked to order and served in good portion sizes. They have a large variety of menu options. The atmosphere is cozy. I would highly recommend!

My husband took me here for a quick lunch when he was in the area, and first, the staff is very friendly and smiling, and the food did not take too long to come out. It was very well prepared, very delicious and the staff really made a mark with me, like I said they were very friendly. I really enjoyed that fried jalapenos were fantastic with the horse radish dip!!!! I feel that the prices were a little bit steep, but for a nice outing with the family it is a cute spot, the decor keeps you busy just admiring it too!

Our first time visiting this location. We’d been eager to visit for some time and finally did while in the neighborhood. We were glad that we stopped. First impression, the homey atmosphere was welcoming. The menu selections were interesting and wide-ranging. Second time ordering lunch from Pappy's cafe for myself and my coworkers. Chicken fried steak, steak fingers, and chicken fried chicken are ON POINT. Food is fresh, hot, delicious, and obviously prepared with care. The service is also fantastic. Everyone I've spoken with at this location has been kind and gives you that old school southern hospitality charm that can be sometimes lost with Houston restaurants. Pappy's Cafe is doing it right! This place! Some good old comfort food. I had the grill salmon with green beans and sweet potato fries. Others in my party had fried catfish, ribs, and BBQ chicken. Our server, and I apologize, I cannot remember his name was beyond amazing! His suggestions were on point, and he even anticipated what people may want in terms of sauces and sides. I recommend this place for any gathering. The establishment is very accommodating.

I had told our waiter Drew I was craving fried zucchini and wished it was on the menu. he disappeared for a moment and came back saying the chef could fry me up some. The bacon burger (w/egg) is amazing. Scorpion bites are a must try as well. We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu

I recall when this restaurant was located near Blalock and I-10. The new location is impressive, with a friendly and attentive staff and a notably clean environment. The chicken fried steak is a standout and highly recommended. While the mashed potatoes and Caesar salad were average, the overall experience was positive. I look forward to returning.

After dropping my daughter off at the airport my husband, granddaughter and I stopped in at Pappy’s. This was our first visit and we weren’t disappointed. Even though it was a Tuesday during lunch (and busy) we were seated quickly. Our waitress was amazing - our granddaughter wanted root beer (they come in bottles and we really didn’t want her to have it) so our waitress made her a special unicorn drink (green apple), which she loved! It had special sprinkles on top - and made her feel like a princess! My husband and I had to try their chicken fried steak. It was fresh, and very tasty, my only wish is that it was seasoned a little more (but I am used to Louisiana cooking). The mashed potatoes are homemade and delicious! We had the salad before - and I had the honey mustard dressing which they also make - SO good - I recommend! Our granddaughter had their fried fish - it is SO FRESH and amazing (we tried a bite). I love restaurants that have quality kids food since they’re limited in what they’ll eat at their age! 😉 The chicken fried steak is a good size - I took over 1/2 to go - and our waitress (wonderful handwriting as well) - labeled my box for me. We took a blackberry cobbler to go - which is also very good! Next time I’ll try cherry! I definitely recommend stopping in! We will be back!

We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant so close to our home. It is diner type food, focusing on Tex-Mex and catfish and other items. There is just about everything on the menu. Salads, steaks, enchiladas, catfish, sandwiches, burgers and more. I had the blackened catfish. It was cooked perfectly, served over rice and I chose french fries and green beans as my side. My husband had the Texas enchiladas which were very tasty. There is a bar here so you can have a drink. Although we were happy with water. There are also lots of desserts which we did not try because we were stuffed from our lunch. Lots of seating, so don't be dismayed if the parking lot looks full.

The people here are so nice! I went here with my mom because it's the type of place I knew she would love. It's not the type of food that I'm really into, but my mom really loved it so we'll definitely come back at some point.

Papys has been in business since the early 80s. They have a large menu of Texas comfort food. The place was clean, comfortable and the staff was friendly and competent. The catfish that I had wasn't anything special but was plentiful. My wife's quesadilla was very good though. Full of chicken that you could taste had come off the grill seconds before and loaded with cheese. We had a cheese fry appetizer that was large too. We both left with to go boxes. We'll be back to try more things on the menu.

We went to Pappy's on a Tuesday afternoon. It was not crowded at all. We ordered the cheeseburgers with fries. The meat in the hamburgers were delicious and cooked to order. I did not care for the one thin slice of American cheese on the burger. The regular fries that come with the hamburger are very bland. Ordering up with the sweet potato fries and waffle fries were delicious. The burgers were about $12 and the extra for the specialty fries was about $2 each. The double burger was quite a bit of meat! The service was fabulous and the manager came over to talk to us. Overall it was a good experience. I recommend the chicken fried steak over the hamburgers if you're going for the first time. The chicken fried steak is always a favorite and if you order the gravy on the side the steak stays crispy and juicy!

2024: brought my wife here many times. Enjoyed the raport with the bartender ladies during happy hour. Appreciated them trying to sell texas Beer and Wine; we are huge supporters. Started coming here regular, but recently quality has gone down ... it was shortly after they changed the happy hour app pricing. The catfish is fatty. The food is less than great. The service from the ladies at the bar is still fun and nice, the food ... not so much Darn good southern cooking. Catfish with two sides .... ate it all .. and had the blueberry cobbler ... with blue bell of course. Very nice. Been here a few times. Service is generally really good. Sunday brunch is nothing to write home about. Happy hour is well priced. Service is good.

The service there was nice. We like the Naked tails and waffle fries. The steak was good and it was grilled perfectly as I ordered. It’s a good choice for anyone who is seeking for a predictable and nice meal. The portion was pretty big and it’s hard to have a room for dessert if finishing all of them. From time to time we get together with family just to catch up and enjoy each other's company, it's what we do. So this time we decided to eat at Pappy's Cafe. I've never been here and of course I have been told to come and try out the place. So I will let you know staff is really friendly and courteous. We sat down as we were walking in the door and had our drink order within 5 minutes, literally. Our server answered all our questions about the menu just like she was the one who created it. Very knowledgeable, recommended her favorites, best sellers and what plates to share. They serve brunch, which I didn't expect. The food looked awesome when they brought it out, hot and fresh. Very happy with this place. I took some pictures of what we had and the hours they are open. They also have a full bar, so you can order a beer, shot or a favorite drink. They have a $4 margarita that is served all day every day. We really enjoyed it here, we sat there talking away for a couple of hours and we were still asked if we wanted refills or just anything off the menu. No rush to get rid of us at all. We will be back soon and just hang out. Great job guys. Thank you.

I will definitely come back again. Everything was great old American country cafe but so nice to eat and relax here. Food was all great only one thing missing in all... Salt to enhance the flavor besides that it was good will come back. Oh and bathrooms were very well kept with is always a good sign.

We've been here 3x already. Our first experience was great. The bartender has amazing customer service and helpful on our first time . Second time we sat in dining area. Our waitress must have been having a bad day because she just did not seem to want to working that day. She did attend to us very well but her attitude just was not pleasant. Our third time returning we brought friends and we ate in bar area. Different bartender and was attentive but he did not have a pleasant attitude. We enjoy this place so far. The food is delicious, but customer service should be addressed.

Came here my second time and forgot to review the first time around. Ordered the Rib and Sausage with sides of slaw and waffle fries. It did not disappoint. The rib was fall off the bone and the sausage is well, sausage. The waffle fries is commendable as it’s both light and good. Good service but wish that the server were not over-eager to ask me if they can clear my plate while I take pause between bites. Otherwise, thank you for the food and experience!

Service was very good here as is the atmosphere. Had the chicken fried steak and ribs/sausage plate. The portions are big and everything was really tasty. The ribs were super tender.

There are a lot of different food spots to choose from in the Energy Corridor. This was one of the only restaurants that was still open for different past 8 PM. I was surprised to see that it was EMPTY for dinner when I came by at 7:45. There were probably 4 other guests in the whole restaurant. I sat down at the bar area, and Michael came to take care of me. Service was a bit slow, which was surprising because no one else was there... took a while to get my water and to place my order. I got the Chicken Florentine with the Texas Smashed Potatoes and Fried Okra. I then couldn't pass up homemade blackberry cobbler for dessert, which hit home with a nice scoop of vanilla on top! There's plenty of bar seating and regular dining. It was just quiet and slow. Seems like a good local watering hole to check out.

Excellent food. The spinach and artichoke dip is so delicious. I also highly recommend the chicken fried steak, crab cakes with shrimp etoufee, broccoli cheese casserole and the squash. I did not like the peach cobbler. It tasted like it came out a can. The waitress was nice but very quiet. She did not interact with me. She had too many tables so she was rushing around the entire time.

Came here over the weekend for the Chicken Fried Steak and I wasn't disappointed. First time for us to visit, all the food was very good, including the apps. The Chicken Fried Steak was about avg for sure, The restaurant is clean and the service was good. Will definitely be back and try some other items.

Well, the first thing I will comment about is that the menu lists upgrades to Onion Strings or Sweet potato fries to be $1.99 for sandwiches but $2.49 for dinners or hamburgers. And per our wait person, management is completely aware of the price difference but charges everyone $2.49 regardless of order. So bait and switch and false advertising. They were out of cinnamon apples at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon: bodes badly for dinner tonight. Ribs and sausage was huge, smashed potatoes were good Lemon pepper chicken was average, squash and green beans well done. Wait person was pleasant.

My son and I decided to try this place for the first time today. Overall, the food was just OK - definitely nothing to write home about. However, the young lady who took our order was such a sweetie pie, so if I could rate on service alone, I'd rate it a 5. Now, back to the food: Both my son and I ordered the "Big Bubba" dinner, which gave all sorts of big back energy. I ordered creamy spinach and loaded mashed potatoes for my sides; my son ordered fried okra and mac and cheese for his sides, and we both ordered desserts (peach cobbler and key lime pie). Let's start with what was good: the chicken breasts on the bed of rice was good; my creamy spinach was ok, but not great; it was more on the soupy side, and the mashed potatoes were way too dry despite having decent flavor. My son said he enjoyed the fried okra, but he said the mac and cheese was not good at all; he said the pasta was a bit overcooked and the cheese sauce was bland. Now, on to the desserts: the peach cobbler was HORRIBLE!!! Whoever is making that (or buying it from the store) needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY!🤮 It was soupy; it lacked the flavor expected a good southern peach cobbler, and it was just so wrong. I ate two bites, and I threw it away. My son also said the key lime pie was bad and said he would rather have the store-bought Edward's pie, so basically, I wasted $14 on just the desserts. In conclusion, the place is ok. Perhaps, there are other things on the menu that are much better, but based on my first experience, it is very unlikely that I will ever patronize this place again. Cooking at home would definitely be superior (if you're a good cook). Because I'm a really good cook, this place is a NO for me, but again, the young lady who took our order was a gem, and I pray the best for her.

The food wasn’t that good it had a very old grease smell. The service was really good and he was great at taking our orders. The bathroom smelt extremely bad. It had a very distinct gas smell and made me wonder if there was something wrong in the kitchen.

We came here for my mother's birthday brunch this past Sunday. I was very hopeful about this place due to the positive reviews and that it served southern comfort food but ((sighs)) we did not have a pleasant experience. First off we are a party of 7 (5 adults 2 kids) it took forever for the waitress to bring us our drinks (about a 10 minute wait) my mother ordered sparking water in which she never received because "the bartender forgot" umm ok. The Hawaiian Mimosa. Not that great I sent it back Everybody ordered something different we had a 30-35 MINUTE WAIT for our food. Despite a party of 5 who were seated AFTER us got our food and a party of 4 who sat behind us who also arrived after us and got their food in a timely manner. NOBODY AT OUR TABLE FINISHED THEIR FOOD! BLAND WITH NO FLAVOR!! My niece had a simple sandwich and soup. She did not like it. My cousin ordered a simple shrimp quesadilla, she said it was bland and did not finish it. I ordered my kids a simple chicken and waffles off the brunch menu. Chicken tenders were BLAND! How do you mess up chicken tenders?! You can tell the batter had no seasoning what so ever! A 6 year old and a 2 year old didn't even eat it. They only managed to eat the curly fries. The waitress although nice was slow we were looking for her several times throughout the meal. Safe to say I will not be visiting this restaurant again.

I wanted to try something new tonight for lunch and read some of the reviews good and bad so I decided to stop by. I called first the young lady was friendly and helpful. When I arrived I was greeted upon entering and directed where to go for pickup my order wasn’t ready. I waited about 5 min. My order was sit on a table instead of bringing it to me. Then when I got in my car I realized I didn’t get my tea so I went back in and as I stood there for about 3min or so there was this white guy talking to some customers never acknowledged me until I asked him was he the manager and he said yes……I’m like I didn’t get my tea so he went to the back and a young lady came out with the drink. I guess my gut told me to not tip for some reason I just didn’t get a good vibe from the staff. The food was good very small portion for $18…….I am going to give a low rating because they didn’t give me my tea and the manager just plum ignored me. The fish had a good taste the rice was good also the mashed potatoes and green beans had a good taste. Maybe I will go back again maybe for dine in to see how the staff services are rendered.

EDIT: Returned to this restaurant yesterday. Was so excited because of how it was when I visited in June. The 2nd time was TOTALLY different. Food tasted different, an African-American male waiter kept yelling past me to the bar area, I was sitting at a table in the bar area, as opposed to walking over there and he wore no mask, the waitress suggested the peach cobbler as opposed to the apple cobbler that I originally had and it was awful. The peaches were hard and the crust was doughy like as if it wasn't completely cooked. I didn't eat one-third of it and Lauren, the waitress, asked me why and I told her. She didn't suggest my original request, nor did she remove it from my amount. So I paid $7 for a dessert I did not eat and she still received a tip, so basically $15 extra on my tab. I will not be returning when I'm back in that area. This restaurant was located directly in front of the hotel I stayed in. It is a family type restaurant with a quiet vibe. The food portions are GENEROUS and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I enjoyed it so much I ate here the entire hotel stay which kept me from having to locate food elsewhere. I sat at the bar for 2 days and Brandon the bartender was excellent and attentive. My waitress on the first visit was Bonnie and she was very personable. If ever I'm on that side of Katy Freeway, I will definitely stop in.

The waitress Lea was so ungrateful and so rude. She was talking about what she did the night before to my family (after we have been waiting a while before she even came to the table to greet us.) We have been driving all day and was just wanting a nice dinner. The food was good no complaints on what we ordered.When it came time to ask for the check she finally brought it to us. We always pay tips in cash that way the waitresses get them right there and then and not have to wait. As she goes over to her booth to pay us out she yells across the room to us “ what is the cash for? Wait… is this my tip?” We are like just taken back not ever having that done to us before. She brings back the receipt and she has circled not once not twice but like 3 or 4 times the 20% tip suggestion on the receipt when we said thank you said ignored us like she was disgusted with us. We left her the tip we felt she deserved as a server. Not based on the food or anything else, just her service. To me she was worth 15% of our bill. NOT the max she wanted.

Maria made the experience disappointing. I ordered the “grilled marinated lemon chicken” as described on the menu, but it appeared to be coated in flour and cooked in butter or oil—not grilled. Since I’m counting calories, I didn’t want it and asked to remove the chicken and just pay for the sides. Instead of simply taking the plate with the chicken, Maria removed the entire platter which had my two bowls of sides on it, which were **half-eaten**, without even asking—despite me clearly not being done. We were then charged $6 for the sides, which I wouldn’t have minded if I’d **actually been allowed to finish them.** Given that they were halfway eaten, we should have been charged $3, not $6. She was also a bit rude when we were asking questions about food while ordering. Very disappointing experience.
