If you’re in between Hachi and any where else pick Hachi — I can guarantee you won’t regret it. I booked Hachi’s omakase for my husbands 32 birthday and it was easily his best birthday dinner yet. BYOB so we grabbed Sake at a nearby shop and shared with the chef and the other omakase guests. It was a fantastic time. Each dish was unique and expertly crafted. Chef put time and dedication into this menu and you could tell. He gave us a short description of each dish and I’m sad I didn’t write each down. Everything was super fresh. The fish basically melted in my mouth. 10/10 recommend. I’d come back here every day if I could. (I definitely forgot to take a pic of the steak sashimi..)
Excellent omakase experience. Very generous portions of fish prepared in interesting ways that did a great job of highlighting the fish. My new favorite meal on Maui. Will definitely come back next time we are here.
tl;dr - don’t think twice and make a reservation here ASAP for the best omakase. You will not be disappointed! We had one of the most incredible omakase experiences here, and we’ve had omakase around the world, including in Japan and at Michelin-starred spots. This experience was up there with the best. The restaurant is unassuming, in a strip mall, with plenty of parking available. From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly, down-to-earth, and attentive. The inside is cozy, with a few tables up front and some counter seating at the bar. Since it’s BYOB, we brought a bottle of Far Niente Chardonnay, which was promptly placed in an ice bucket. FYI - there’s a store next door that sells beer, wine and sake. You can order a la carte, but we opted to do the omakase, and Chef Misao shared that we would be having over twenty courses. We ended up having 24 courses, including dessert and a palate cleanser, and every single one was spectacular. It’s hard to pick favorites, but some standouts included the cherry-smoked hamachi, the chawanmushi, uni, chutoro hand roll, otoro (topped with caviar and gold leaf), Japanese beef (cooked via sous-vide for 72 hours), and a sublime black sesame ice cream. We were stuffed at the end of service. It is evident that Chef Misao cares deeply about serving high-quality fish - most, if not all, were flown in from Japan, and the preparation was unique and truly enhanced the flavor of the fish. The soy sauce was made in house, and the wasabi was ground fresh from the root. For the amount and quality of food we got, the price was extremely reasonable - $185/pp. We would come back to Maui just to eat here again. It was truly one of the best meals we’ve had. Thank you, Chefs Misao and Buddha, for an incredible dining experience!
The cutest, most charming, traditional authentic Japanese sushi restaurant on Maui! The food was amazing! Every bite was melt in your mouth kind of tasty. The menu is impressively curated with an array of unique fish and flavors. They really know how to complement the types of fish and ingredients in each roll. The space is quaint, atmosphere is intimate and reminds me of the small sushi spots in Japan. Staff were super friendly upon entering and the owner even came to our table to explain the types of fish and how they were prepared. We had the blue fin maki, red dragon maki, and chili machi trout maki rolls. They were ALL fantastic! Definitely recommend this spot for a date night or just to satisfy your sushi craving. As locals, this just might be the spot we’re going to visit regularly. Oishi! 😋
ugh some of the best sushi I’ve ever had PERIOD!!!! the service was incredible too and it was such a fun time ❤️❤️❤️ if there are no reservations available try calling ahead to see if they can accommodate you!!
I’d heard so much great stuff about the Oao Sushi so had to check it out their new Omakase Restaurant by Oao and it was truly amazing! We did the 18 course tasting and every dish we tasted was so savory and fresh with a beautiful presentation!!! You can’t beat the pricing and the quality for the omakase they offer, attention to detail on dishes and a very experience this is definitely your place and I recommend everyone try it for a true Japanese omakase experience in Maui!! I can’t wait to go back!
We love OAO in Wailea, couldn’t wait to have Omakase at their new restaurant Hachi OAO in Kihei. Went there last night, it was one of the best meals I ever had - I’m super picky and normally don’t give compliments like that. The quality of the food, the sushi rice melted in my mouth, loved loved every dish, and ended with the homemade sesame ice cream. Already made another reservation.
My girlfriend and I heard good things about Hachi by Oao. We had to check it out ourselves and decided to do the Japanese 18 course Omakase. The chef was really knowledgeable of what he was doing, and explained every fish and where it came from. Nice presentation on all of the dish. Fish were fresh and so good. Highly recommended and we can’t wait to go back again. 5⭐️ out 5
My family and I had the most amazing omakase experience at Hachi by Oao. Each dish was phenomenal and a work of art. The quality and freshness are top tier. Can’t wait to go back. Heard they also do have take out and ala carte menu.
First japanese omakase in Maui! The owner and the chef were very friendly and their service was excellent. Its one of the best omakase experience I've ever had. They all serve fish from japan and the quality of each course was outstanding. 18 course omakase for $150 is definitely worth a price! The place and the ambiance was amazing! I will highly recommend this place if you want a quality sushi and a unique dine in experience! If I could give a 10 stars I would!
Chef's uni is amazing. High quality sushi served here. Al la cart. I can honestly say for what they charge....it's worth it.
My husband and I ate here on our last night in Maui to celebrate our one year anniversary. It was incredible. The fish was the best I’ve ever had. The variety, the craftsmanship, the 22 courses, it was unparalleled. We did the dinner omakase, and hope to do it again one day when we are back on Maui. It’s also BYOB at the moment so that was a good cost saver. This meal is not cheap, but it is an experience. And if you love sushi, it’s a splurge you won’t regret. When you find out how they source their fish and house make every sauce, and think about the entire bite and how the flavors meld - you’ll understand why it costs what it does.
BEST BEST omakase experience on the island!! Food ingredients are fresh from Japan, chef and service staff are fun and easy to talk to, which makes you feel like dining with friends casually.
Best sushi place on Maui by far. Japan grade on everything, freshness, service and the Omakase is to die for in every bite. Highly recommended! Do yourself a favor and go there. Aloha.
First, Buddha is the man! This place is a hidden gem, amazing selection of fresh fish from Japan prepared to perfection… Miso is the BOMB, had it with crab last night… Tuna flight melts in your month, it’s buttery smooth and so fresh… oh yeah, family ran, supporting local Another bonus, it’s BYOB
Anago it’s a love language) Also rolls, not pictured, but finally I get to si that rolls with more fish then rice exists 😋
My girlfriend and I were looking for some dinner and found this place. We tried the Chutoro, Hamachi, blue fin roll, and the red dragon Maki and man it did not disappoint! Everything tastes delicious and fresh! So much we only took one photo of the dishes, haha. We ordered the miso soup, and it tasted great! Definitely recommend this place!
Did the dinner omakase and everything from start to finish was amazing. Great service and world class presentation and ingredients.
Excellent food I had the mushroom It was amazing.
My husband and I had the omakase course and it was truly better than anything we'd ever eaten before (especially considering the fact that we were just in Japan about a year ago)! Major credit due to Chefs JR and Misao and even to the wait staff, Dwayne and Keana! We ended up sitting at a table instead of the bar and they did an awesome job presenting each course. Hearing each description from Keana as she brought each plate to us, then to hear Chef Misao explain it from the bar verbatim right afterwards was mighty impressive. Each dish was fresh and as delicious as the last. Since we were only on the island for a week, we quickly decided to have dinner there again the following night, even for a la carte. Very much recommend for either meal!
Chef JR Oao makes the most amazing food and sushi. The special way they prepare the sashimi is delicious. The atmosphere is great and the waiters are all incredibly friendly.
Very good stuff. I had the spicy tuna roll and hybrid salmon nigiri and they were both delicious. Also recommend the king dragon roll, an amazing combination of crab and cooked fish.
Fish was fresh, service was great. Waygu nigiri melted in your mouth. Hamachi kama was so meaty and perfectly cooked. Wish I was hungry enough to try their omakase. Can't wait to come back
I love the other restaurants by Oao and was excited to try Hachi. I tried only two items but loved every bite and the whole experience. I ordered the Kinoko Usuzukuri (Thinly sliced ali'i mushroom confit, crispy shallot, tosazu) and the Wagyu Beef Toro. The Ali’s mushroom appetizer was for the gods with elavated flavors and textures topped with microgreens and a mysterious crunch. I couldn’t get enough of it, really didn’t want to waste any of the decadent sauce left after I devoured the mushrooms, so I mopped the plate with my Beef Toro leaving no trace of food behind. WOW! Dwayne was my server and he was charming and attentive as usual, He had taken care of me at their other locations and it was nice to see a familiar face. I dined alone which I don’t recommend as this is a small location but I look forward to coming back with my fiancé for date night very soon! Mahalo Hachi crew for making it a great first experience!
This is easily the best sushi at the best price on the island. We ate at nobu last night with a family of 4 (kids 11 and 9) for 1k. The sushi was as good here if not better at Ahachi and it’s BYOB. We purchased a 12 pack of Japanese beer at the CVS next door and they kept it cold while providing ice cold glasses. We are from Houston so a strip center whole in the wall gem is our jam. This place is a diamond in the ruff.
Absolutely one of the best dinner experiences I’ve ever had. Strongly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.
Had the Omakase; we were visiting from Boise, and enjoyed the hospitality and delicious choices from Chef JR!
Great incredible sushi and owner is very nice.
You won't find better sushi on the island!
Amazing Omakase experience. Make reservations if possible! You will not regret it
Traditional omaakase experience worth every penny
Comparable in quality to sushi I've had in Tokyo, will be back for the omakase, 5/5.
Good food! Good service! Good ambience and always fresh fish you guys should try it out!
INCREDIBLE! Best sushi I’ve ever had on the island.
Excellent everything. Really impressive and unique sushi options.
The best sushi I have ever had! Don’t be dissuaded by the unassuming location in a strip mall! The food was phenomenal - fresh fish from Japan prepared beautifully. Service was fantastic, wait staff and chef’s were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was noticeable they all take pride in what they do. Will def be going back.
BY FAR the best Omakase experience my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying... and we've traveled a bit, so that's saying a lot. Sushi Chef Misao is a true master of his craft and he is clearly supported by a patient and responsive staff on the night of our experience. We would highly recommend anyone who loves and appreciates the finest in sushi to head over to Kihei right now. It will not disappoint.
Delightful meal, the service was excellent and our waiter gave us some key tips and recommendations that were absolutely delicious. We ordered à la carte and every dish was beautifully crafted and composed. The Hamachi chili crudo was a highlight, not too spicy but so flavorful and a great balance of flavors. Absolutely recommend any of the nigiri, and the Bluefin flight was outstanding.
We went to the omakase and it was amazing! I don’t eat any seafood but my man does so he was able to get the full course (ours was about 22 plates) and they were very accommodating for me. They have a few non seafood options (waygu, miso, etc.). We also got to sit at the bar and watch chef oao cook the whole meal. 10/10 experience.
Had the omakase yesterday night and it was truly amazing. The food was fresh, thoughtfully prepared and more importantly, delicious! I highly recommend anyone to try it as I doubt you’d find anything close to it while you’re here
Absolutely delicious omakase! Loved every bite. It was the perfect special occasion dinner. FYI the omakase currently costs like $185 pp. I thought it was $150 based on the menus posted on google from 4 months ago.
Mind blowing omakase! We had the 18 course and every bite we so incredible. The chefs are so talented and we can't recommend this place enough. It's definitely a must try! There's a lot of good sushi on Maui, but this place is the best thing ever and beats a lot of San Francisco Michelin star restaurants.
Amazing food, and highly recommend sitting at sushi bar. Let the chef take care of you, and order the omakase!
Best omakase I’ve ever had. Each fish was sourced from different key places overseas and tastes like they just caught it. That and the chef taught us so much about what he was doing, how he was preparing it, and how we could replicate it if we wanted. We’ll be back for absolute sure!
수쉬 사쉬뮈 절데 뭑지 마라여. 퀄 레알 췌악임. 롤만 두쉐요
In a strip mall. No liquor license (bought the best sake available at the Longs drug store nearby for $15 ). Food was okay, but not great - there was plenty of it, but volume doesn’t offset lack of tastiness. But OMG, the pricetag was outrageous for what it was. Twice as much as Morimoto, Mamas Fish House, or Lineage and those dinners included cocktails.
