Mexican! Delicious! I would recommend this place if you are driving along down 15 or are a local here! Their prices can’t be beat and the food is not to shabby:) Decorated like you would imagine with interesting decor over head for the littles ones to look at while you wait (not long) for your food! Here you are their amigos!
The food was good and service was great very affordable lunch menu options
I have been going here since they opened, many years ago. Manuel is a great person, and owner, works hard to make sure everyone has everything they need. Food is delicious as always and so is service.
Amazing food very fast and the blue Hawaiian is to die for definitely coming back
I give this place a five I love to bring my family here to BD are the best they sing to u and make u feel special u get the big hat put on the head the food mmmm good I love the soft burritos when they fixed this place up and made it there I went in just to give them my grade as I call it I rated them as a A they got wheel chair and bathroom in the lower part upper is out side. Love the fired ice cream
Fantastic food, some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. The employees are very nice and I enjoy the restaurants vibe. I’ve actually been going to the restaurant since I was younger on the way to see my grandparents. Even if you’re driving through Orange it’s worth stopping by and having a tasty Mexican meal
We ordered fajitas for two and the plate was loaded. It was enough for four people and very good. The manager came over and welcomed us. A very good experience.
Always wonderful welcome, warm and caring service. Best Mexican restaurant for miles. I call it my happy food! ¡Mi comida felizes! Very close to my family's food in Texas & Mexico. Not enough of the real stuff but Americans won't get it. ✌⚘ 😍😍😍
Every time we dine in or carry out the food is amazing! The staff is curtious and prompt and prices are reasonable.
This is one of my favorite restaurant ever. They have great authentic mexican food! High suggest you try it out if you are in town. Friendly service as well.
Well we r there for lunch Restaurant not extremely busy. Food was great. But serve was slow and chopping. I am home already would still be waiting for a side plate. Never got one. No napkins anywhere, and could not find a restroom.
Clean, relaxed, adult and family-friendly atmosphere. Menu has wide variety of attractive, delicious foods. Good, friendly service. Daily lunch specials and will take reservations for larger groups for faster seating. This is one of my favorites.
Love coming here. People are bright friendly cheerful and energetic. The Salsa is always fresh and good. Ten food is always served fast, and also good. The atmosphere is lively, upbeat, and wide open. Best place to eat in Orange County
I was clean, friendly and very yummy. The employees were kind and took great care to keep our food hot and the drinks full. As we were leaving the employees were telling us bye and glad they we came. Thumbs up. A great place to enjoy great mexican food.
Absolutely awesome food and amazing friendly staff. One of my favorite spots to eat whether it's for a quick lunch or a great dinner. Definitely will go again and again!!
Always delicious food and friendly service. We come from another county just to eat here. I highly suggest this restaurant!
Amazing everything! They make you feel famous when you come in! They treat everyone so well.
I love this place! Always fast friendly service. And the food is ALWAYS so yummy! I've never had a bad meal here.
Wait staff was great and food came quickly and correct! Will definitely recommend!
Food was good. I eat there twice a week.
Delicious food, always hot and fresh ingredients, friendly knowledgeable staff, huge shrimp, large portions, at a great price! We go out of our way to come experience this authentic Mexican restaurant. Our family favorite!!
This place is awesomely great . The owner is such a nice man he goes out of his way to make sure you are satisfied . Prices are reasonable the portions are more then you can eat so be prepared to take some home . ..
I love their food! I always come here and receive awesome service and food. Nice and fresh authentic Mexican food. Well worth the money and your time. Never had a complaint on the food.
The staff were very helpful, quick and friendly! The chips, salsa, guac and queso were delicious. My chimichangas were great and the lava cake with ice cream was entirely devoured by the 13 year old. Definitely worth going back. 👌Was too hungry to get pictures of anything more than the guacamole!
Excellence full menu authentic Mexican Foods, with daily luncheon specials that are large and tasty. Service is great, prices beat fast food chains. No guitars just great Mexican food with endless chips and Salsa. What's not to like??
Best Mexican restaurant around hand down!
Great food have not ate here in years. But will make sure to stop by again when I'm in town.
Service has been really good. Very friendly place. Food has been really good every time we've eaten here. That's why we keep going back!
Had a few margaritas and burritos here today. Service is great! Very polite and respectful. Food is fantastic. W have been here many times and will be back.
Food was good, service was prompt, and price was right. This was at 8pm on a Sunday night.
Ordered the shrimp quesadilla and nachos supreme. I had to wait a little extra for my pick up order but it was worth it. The food was seasoned good and we were happy with the portions sizes.
I wish our El Vaquero was as good as this one in Orange. The Locust Grove one is horrible. You can't even get them to acknowledge you. I had to walk out and go to Taco Bell. This restaurant is excellent. We were seated immediately and our server was there quickly and took our drink order. He was very courteous and gave us great service,! The food was excellent. Highly recommend
Food was good but it took longer then I've ever had to wait there this time. But I'm local and they are great. Probably the best deal for food in town
Food is always very consistent and very fresh and good. Love the owner he's very personal. Servers are very thoughtful and stay caught up on what your needs are they do a very good job. This is my favorite restaurant that we go to on the regular basis. Good Margaritas too by the way.
We love El Vaquero West. We had eaten there about a year ago when we were in town and were extremely pleased. I decided to have my birthday dinner there this year. My husband had the Fajitas del Mar and I had the Quesadilla Texanos. Both were freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Our food arrived quickly and our server was extremely attentive. We will certainly visit again when we are in the area.
El Vaquero was a great find in the town of Orange, VA. The food was quite good and very similar to dishes served at other Mexican restaurants. Service was fast and friendly. Many lunch customers were obviously local folks. Lunch prices are VERY reasonable ($6 and up at the time of this review), and portions are certainly enough. We will be returning to enjoy it again. Thank you to the owners for keeping prices low and affordable for the community.
For starters, the wait staff was prompt, friendly and super nice. Secondly, the chips and various dips we had were all really super yummy. Thirdly, the main courses were so delicious and fresh. My husband and I are thoroughly impressed by everything. On top of everything, the owner himself was really friendly and definitely runs a great place. We watched him helping out the staff and doing things to make it easier on them. All in all, excellent place. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
We had fajitas for two. Food came fast and hot! Huge shrimp and the steak was so tender. Then we got the xangas for dessert. Hands down, best dessert I’ve ever had. Add in the huge peach daiquiri and it was altogether an EXCELLENT experience. I also loved the decor!
We go there at least 2 time a month. Alway satisfied with the food and service. Never had a problem with anything!!!
The menu offers a lot of choices and displays new choices when they're added. The food was very good and the serving size is generous. I don't go to a restaurant for the atmosphere or know how to judge it but it's presentable.
The food was very good, the waiters were very attentive, and the owner came out to check on us. I find that very heartwarming. We were headed to see a show and we stopped there first to have a bite to eat. There were four of us. The waiter took very good care of us. We're very appreciative of our dinner.
Food was excellent. Service was lacking. Waiter took our order and then had to send someone else out to take the order a second time. We had to get the check ourselves.
Food was delicious. Will definitely go back.
We took a family trip to Orange Va recently and reserved their room for 30 people. They did a wonderful job of accommodating us. There was no fee to reserve the room. The food came out in a timely matter and was delicious. Thank you Emmanuel for your excellent service!!
Very good food, clean establishment, and helpful service. We were just passing through and looking for a good bite to eat. We found it here.
Great little place, with cordial staff, tasty food and a homey feel to boot. What more can you ask for? Reasonable prices, you say? They got that too.
The food was awesome! We had the Fajitas for 2 and it would probably serve 4 people. Very tasty. But the best part of our dinner was our server Marvin. He was genuinely accommodating and a nice individual. Highly recommend.
Great food, great service, and great prices.
The team here is so friendly and inviting! Everyone who walks in is an Amigo! Food was WONDERFUL and service was incredibly attentive. Some of the best Birra tacos I've had.
So many delicious meals; I am currently trying all of their dishes. They serve the best Mexican food in Orange and with huge portions....always enough to take home and enjoy all over again later. Their guacamole and salsa are made in-house, and you can tell! I would die for their recipes. 5 yums for sure! 💜
Although I'm not one for Mexican foods, I've been here a few times! We've brought family here and had a great time! The food is amazing, the staff are so polite and kind, and this has to be the most affordable restaurant in Orange. I do think the restaurant deserves a face lift as some things are falling apart, but man is the food good!
December 2024 - this restaurant has drastically improved and it is now AWESOME again! We used to go a couple times a week and then they went so downhill from food to cleanliness and the service was rude and terrible that we stopped coming for a couple years. We tried it on a whim today and WOW! Best birria tacos I've ever had! And all the food was so good and fresh. The restaurant was so much cleanier and the waitress super friendly and on point. If you also had stopped coming when they started going downhill... go try em out again! They've turned the place around and are great!! Dare I say....the best in Locust Grove and Orange!
If I could give this place 100 stars I would. Hands down best customer service we've had anywhere. The food was delicious, the prices were phenomenal, the staff was super friendly, the restaurant was clean. My husband and I got the grande nachos for two to split and we were stuffed. My daughter got the taco salad lunch special and we definitely weren't expecting so much food for a lunch portion. We'll definitely be back!
My favorite Mexican restaurant. Staff is always friendly, food is great no matter what I decide to give a try, margaritas are a win here. Only reason I didnt 5 star...they need the white dip to go with the chips, salsa and cheese dip (I have no clue what it even is) and the place can use a little updating, the bathroom is in dyer need of it. Otherwise this is my household go to for Mexican or a split decision to go out to eat or in need of a stiff drink.
Ordered the chicken taco salad. Something was sour or bad in it..chicken or the refried beans. Did not eat it. This is the first time I've had something from here that wasn't good and I've been coming here for years. Still one of my favorite places to eat.
Great, fast and friendly service from attentive staff. My meal was a bit bland but the rest of my group loved theirs. Will be back , but will try a different food selection when I do.
I had the lunch fajitas. Big enough that I had to get a to-go box. I was thrilled to find out they have black beans, not just refried beans. Very fresh tasting.
More like authentic Mexican food than most other Mexican restaurants I've been to. My second experience here was much better than my first; based on my first experience, I would have rated a two. This time the food was delicious. Would like to see restaurant updated and cleaned up a little.
I would've given them five stars but they were overly busy and service wasn't so great. I took my food to go and I didn't get any silverware or napkins. I was visiting from Maryland and driving back home and had to stop to buy silverware from another store. The food did taste really good but they need to work on their service a little more.
The food was good and very reasonably priced. The people that work there were very nice. They seem to be pretty popular in the area which is good since there isn't many option in the town of orange. They also open pretty early which is nice as there are a lot of older folks in the area that like to eat early
Good dine in experience. Staff were friendly and moved swiftly to accommodate needs. For was standard, drinks were good. I would recommend stopping at this location solely based on management. It was good to have the manager come over and greet your table and ensure your experience was pleasurable. Drinks were also reasonably priced. Recommendation: Nachos Enchiladas Supreme
I liked that they have more menu selections than my regular Mexican restaurant but I had the chorizo pollo and I've never seen chicken sliced so thin or so overcooked. The margaritas are more expensive than any place in central, va area that I'm aware. The staff was nice and I was glad they were open later.
I’ve eaten here since they opened but service and food has gradually declined. I quit eating in after last experience, but my take out tonight was lacking several key ingredients. On the fence if I give them another try.
This is one of several Mexican food restaurants in Orange, Virginia. They have a great house salsa. The best thing to come to the table was the chips and salsa. I had a combination to try several basic items (taco, enchilada, and chili relleno). They use ground beef in the tacos and enchiladas. The enchilada tortilla was not quite cooked enough. The taco shell was slightly stale. I am not a fan of their rellenos either. I will come back to try their shrimp or fish dishes. They didn't have the drinks on the menu when we ordered. The chicken taco supreme 🌮 were chewy but flavorful.
Didn't seem that authentic to me. Service was ok, food was ok but not worth taking the leftovers. Locals seemed to like the place though.
Food is very inconsistent in terms of spice. Very greasy, with no real unique flavor. The portion size is decent, but for flavorless food, I'd rather save my money. I've been here a couple of times with my roommate (who loves it), but I would rather go to LA naranja, hands down.
Very disappointing service tonight. Several years ago this was one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. However, things have changed and simply put - they need to change again. Salsa is harsh tasting and not at all enjoyable. Chips tasted scorched and again service was a fail. The owner is a wonderful person and deserves better from his employees just as we customers do as well. This was too good of a restaurant to have these problems now. We wish them well.
I don't recommend the combos. We ordered here twice; I tried different combos and was disappointed both times. I couldnt finish the tamale the flavor was so off, and the other items were wet (not in a sauce-infused way... more bland and watery wet). The others in our group enjoyed the chile verde and fish tacos which is why I bumped it up a star, but I cant say I'm interested in giving it a third chance after such disappointing misses.
Found a centipede in the cheese sauce my mom ordered from here it was disgusting
Great restaurant, great food. But the menus smell horrible! Like they whipe them down with smelly rags.
I have ordered the chili rellenos from this restaurant many many times. The last time I went they served me a poblano pepper with cheese and potatoes in it. It did not have an egg batter coating, and it was not fried. This is akin to serving a hamburger without a bun, or a taco without a tortilla. When I pointed out the mistake to my server, he did not apologize, he did not offer to replace the item, and he charged me full price.
Wait staff has NO clue what they are doing. Walter tried to tell me that a chalupa and a tostada were the same thing. And on top of that the menu price does not match the price they charge you on the bill and when you tell them they just look at you. Food was good but the staff was horrible.
The beef and bean dip is nice and larger than most places. Their salsa has a kick. Ordered the talapia with shrimp and veggies. Over spiced, overcooked limped squash and dry tilapia and even drier shrmp. Left over half on the plate. My husband had the chicken fajitas. Chicken cooked well with onions and peppers, no tomatoes.
They dont even know what a quesadilla is
Came 2 days in a row and couldn't get service. Waited patiently for over 25 minutes while I watched them pass me by to serve tables that came in after me. Ive gone to the haymarket location for over a decade with no problem. Asked them why they wouldn't serve me and they said "thats ok.." Get your act together.
The last time I went there the food made me sick. The service was poor, they brought out my husbands entrée and left me hanging… didn’t even notice or stop by the table. I had to get up from my table, find someone, and go and ask where mine was. The only reason I went tonight was because the other Mexican restaurant in town was closed. Same thing, they brought my husband‘s entrée and I had to ask for mine. The food was bland. If you like tons of shredded lettuce this is the place for you. The nachos were soggy. The food is slop. The stuffed jalapeño appetizer left much to be desired. If you are looking for the level of Taco Bell food chain… This is it.I can guarantee you, I and my husband will never be going back.
Have been to this place spent alot.of money kind of a regular but have never been so disrespected by a place in my life was standing by the door waiting to be seated the owner seen me there then to people walk in and jump in front of me the owner seats them in stead of me will never go back so his loss orange county residents
Food is average, same stuff you can get at any Mexican restaurant, even the menus are the same with different names on the cover. Service is slow and most of the servers don't even care. Dirty booths. Bathroom is a cramped closet. There's a better place in town called La Naranja now, and even a Taco Bell I'd rather go to.
Id rather not say anything bad because any place can have a bad night. However, El Vaquero is one of those places that I will never visit again. It was very, very unclean and I became sick after eating the Chori Pollo. Neither my wife nor two-year-old son became sick so maybe it was just me (they had different meals). Either way, it was a bad experience... and there's a Sheetz right down the road that would be a better option.
This place is TRASH!!! Service is awful. My daughter and I ordered cheese pizza and beef chimichangas, and our food was absolute garbage. Her pizza was soggy and literally dripping with slimey liquid from being cooked in a microwave. My food tasted like the salt shaker was dropped in the pot. The beef was dry and tasted old. My daughter then ordered a beef burrito, and when that came out, it immediately disappointed. It was soggy, salty, and disgusting. My sister ordered fajitas and they came out dry like saw dust, and tasted like old kitchen grease. Everything we ordered was AWFUL. I DO NOT recommend EVER spending your money here. Literally, as I type, I’m contemplating going to the ER for food poisoning.
I went with my husband. We were not served our meal at the same time. My food was slightly warmer than room temp while my husband's was hot (he was served first), food was eh. Water tasted like dirt. Soft drinks with ice also tasted like dirt. I was a bit sick to my stomach later that night. Waitstaff was friendly.
I get sick from my stomach every-time I eat here. Every time that I go I say to myself that I am not coming back, then a while passes and I say that I will give it another shot to see if it has gotten any better but it's always the same. The meat is hard (whether I order chicken or steak) which is a sign that it's old meat. It is very rare that I get good meat here. Having said this I get diarrhea for the next couple of days every-time I eat here. If you like to get sick then this is the place for you otherwise I would steer clear from this place.
Terrible, slow service. We ordered a Dos Equis and a Margarita, they brought two margaritas. Tasted like they didn't have alcohol in them. My wife couldn't even finish hers and let me tell you, she has never not finished a margarita. $23 for both. We decided not to stay to eat since it took 15 minutes to get our drinks and it wasn't even busy.
See the picture attached, the chips are all crushed (in little pieces). I made conversation with the waiter and apparently most of the chips that people leave/do not eat they just throw it back in the chip container in the back and reuse/give to the next customers. So if someone comes from work and has dirty hands, or someone went to the bathroom and doesn't wash their hands or is sick, etc. You are eating their chips. And by the way this is during a pandemic. If they are doing this with the chips can you imagine what they are doing with your food? This is very disgusting and disturbing.
This place has gone downhill. Service and food was always on point. Now the only time it's good is if the owner is in. Waitress took our order and never put in my husband's order, then rushed to fix it before we left. She also only came over one time before serving us our food. Had to get the attention of another employee to ask where his food was. Terrible service!!!!
I’ve been quite a few times, and the food is usually decent, but there’s a couple things from my most recent visit that have really convinced me I should switch to the other, newer Mexican place in Orange. For starters, service is really hit or miss. It’s not a very large restaurant, but you still find yourself occasionally having to struggle to get anyone’s attention without getting up. This time was not so bad; we had a party of 7 and everyone needed a decent amount time to order anyway. Once everyone figured out what they wanted, the food came out very quickly. Mine was the very last, a veggie quesadilla, coming out maybe 5 minutes after everyone else’s. I only ate maybe a few bites because I’ll admit I filled up on chips and a margarita… but I took it home and reheated it for a minute and noticed the cheese wasn’t even melted. Why did I wait longer for a meal that wasn’t even fully cooked? No biggie, I just reheated it some more and took a few bites only to find a piece of beef made it into my quesadilla as well . I don’t eat meat, so any time I encounter an accidental piece of meat is not a treat for me and pretty much renders me suspicious of the rest of the plate. Lastly, and probably the most disturbing, I had to use their restroom while I was there, and noticed their soap was watered down to the point it could no longer honestly call itself soap. I try not to use public restrooms, but it was like this the last time I was there as well. I just figured maybe they just didn’t know they were out of soap yet. But to still be washing our hands with recycled water? What are these guys doing? These guys might have better rice and the white sauce that I miss from my hometown, but the dirty hands and careless service is really making me not want to go back. Clean up your act, por favor.
It was the worst food I've ever received I took it out quesadillas and a taco salad they put everything in a bowl everything was soggy You couldn't pick it up The beans was all messed into this chicken that was not even cut up just shredded it was very very nasty I will never eat there again no kind of preparation for for appearance or anything at least could have put things in separate containers instead of having it all runny juice just all over the place from a quesadilla now they just do everything in there and hold it out the pan and just put it into a gold buck this nasty the worst food I ever tasted in my life. The quesadilla and the Taco bowl was so thinly made that it wouldn't have held anything of any way or texture but rice along with all the juices from the pan that or whatever they cooked it from it was just a hot mess .
3 people in my party. 1 never got his water, none of us never got napkins, food came 10 mins apart for each person, food was cold by the time we got silverware, never got a refill or even checked on.
Get bland, cold, old tasting food. Worst experience and worst tasting California Burrito I've ever had. Health Inspection needs to be done here asap
I can’t have an experience there because they never answered their phone to order anything. It never used to be like that when Manuel was there all the time.
I have yet to find a "authentic Mexican restaurant " anywhere in Orange, Ruckersville, and Charlottesville Virginia. I'm from New Mexico, so if you want some "AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD " you'll need to go there. If you are not "authentic Mexican food " then take the authentic sign down! Please you are giving Mexican food a bad taste. Authentic Mexican food is amazing 👏 🤩 😋
