Delicous meals, great service & nice atmosphere. We ordered Steak Quesadilla and the 2 Item Chicken Enchilada with green sauce combination. Didn't get a photo before we gobbled everything down., even after eating a full basket of fresh warm tortilla chips & 2 dishes of salsa! Check out their weekday lunch specials too.
We were a group of 21 ladies last night after church. We let mgr. Alex, know we were coming ahead of time and he set up a nice area for us. Jackie was our server and she was wonderful, taking care of us with ease. Such a great evening, we will be back. Thank you Alex. I highly recommend Rodrigo’s for any size group.
very pleasant staff. The food was great and the portions were big.
The food and service are always outstanding here. The restaurant is always very clean and the restrooms are always clean and well stocked. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak Fajitas Burrito, my husband loves the chili relleno and pork Tamale, grandkids l9ve the flautas and always ask for extra salsa and chips! The servers here are very personal, they know what we enjoy and are always so friendly.
Charming inside with lots of colorful flowers; we ordered off the "lunch expess" menu, which had great choices at good price. Since there were four of us we splurged and ordered the margarita fights! Each one was different and we each took sips of the four different flavors! Ole'!
We had been waiting weeks for today, Rodrigo's ( or as we still think of it, Don José) 53rd anniversary. They were running a special, for the occasion - their cheese enchilada and taco combo for $9.52, and house margaritas for $6. Rodrigo's ( Don José) has been our go to for Mexican food for close to 30 years. They did not disappoint. The food was excellent, hot and fast. We had our favorite server, Alejandro, who has worked there for 25 years, which was a bonus. Our only request? That they run specials more often.
I grew up eating at this location when it was Don Jose’s. I stopped in yesterday while visiting from the East Coast and the food has not changed a bit. Excellent burritos ranchero with great chips and salsa to compliment the main dish. I was so glad, that despite the name change, this Mexican restaurant did not disappoint. The only shortcoming being that I have to travel 2,500 miles to enjoy it.
We went to celebrate the end of the school year for our daughter. Since it was still early in the day, it was technically lunch time. Our server was very responsive and extremely friendly. Our ordered food was ready within minutes and it was all fresh and delicious. The portions are very generous and we all left with to-go containers. If it had been later in the day, we would have ordered cocktails from their full bar, but were content with our sodas instead. I'm really happy with our overall experience here.
As a resident of Santa Fe NM I was curious to see how this food would compare with Northern NM food. While this food was delicious, it was very Calif style Mexican food. Lots of cheese and mild red sauce. No real pico de gallo salsa. No Cilantro which is a staple of Northern NM food.
Visited Rodrigo’s Mexican Grill in North Laguna Hills and had a mostly good experience. The interior and overall vibe of the place are amazing — warm, lively, and perfect for a relaxed meal. We ordered chips and salsa, chicken burrito, and chicken fajitas, along with a Mexican cocktail for drinks. The food was pretty good, flavorful, and satisfying overall. The drinks were enjoyable and paired well with the meal. The only downside was the service. It felt slower than expected, and we didn’t receive some of the dips we had requested. That part was a bit disappointing, but aside from that, everything else about the visit was nice. Overall, a good Mexican spot with great ambience and solid food. With more consistent service, it could easily be even better.
Let's start with the tortillas/chips......they use a poor quality tortilla, and in Southern California there are SO many choices and places to get good quality tortillas. The chips were warm and crisp, BUT again, they use a poor quality tortilla so they aren't a good quality chip. The salsa.......personally i don't like a chunky salsa, but i know that's a me thing......HOWEVER the salsa bowl they brought out was basically five HUGE chunks of tomato, with a little liquid and other salsa ingredients in it. That's not salsa. That's chunks of tomato. The service was on the slow side. I would totally understand that if it was busy, but it wasn't. The soup I ordered never came out (they made up for that). The food was delicious, but again, with the poor quality tortilla it brought the taste of the taco (shredded beef) down. They need to get a decent tortilla (the ones they use, think mass produced grocery store quality). And the rice, I'm almost 100% positive it's instant rice. Nothing wrong with instant rice, but not what you expect to get when dining out. (the beans were really really good). Would I go again? Only if I was with people who wanted to go. I wouldn't select it as somewhere I wanted to go. Would I recommend it? No. They could fix SO much if they just got a better quality tortilla (and if they put some actual salsa in with the tomato chunks).
This restaurant has been in business for decades (formerly Don Jose's). Imo, the food is average and largely uninspired, though the chips are very good by most standards - think, fresh, warm, and crisp, and the service is very good. The guacamole was okay, but not, I think, house-made. The margaritas are likewise meh, though I did like having it served with the tequila in a shot glass on the side. We went to this restaurant because my parents have been going there for years, but it is not a place I would return to by my own choice.
I was looking forward to trying this place out after seeing pictures of their food in an ad. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The food is average. The chips are good, but salsa is a little too watery for my taste. Same with the chicken tortilla soup. I ordered the carne asada ($20) medium, but it came out well-done. Either way the flavor was just average, not very tasty. I did enjoy their regular margarita ($6.25), but the rest of the food wasn’t at the same level. If you really want your tastebuds to dance, go to Sol Agave (pricier) or Jalapeños (cheaper), but either way both have better and more flavor than Rodrigo’s. If you just want to stop by for a drink and chips, you won’t be disappointed, but you probably will be if you order a dish.
I’ve dined at a few different Rodrigo’s locations across California and have always had a positive experience—unfortunately, this particular location has been the complete opposite. I’ve eaten here twice, and this most recent visit was very disappointing, both in terms of service and food. I was part of a family dinner for my aunt’s birthday with a group of nine. Several of us arrived early, but it took over 20 minutes just to get water or have our drink orders taken. Our server (a woman with bright red hair—I didn’t catch her name) seemed disengaged from the start. Instead of serving guests directly, she handed drinks and plates down the table—even though there was room for her to walk around. This continued throughout the meal, and she often seemed more focused on her own convenience than on providing a good dining experience. Several drink orders were missed, and after dessert was served, she stopped clearing plates—even while some of us were enjoying the dessert, leaving us to eat over dirty dishes. As someone who worked as a server for six years, I understand the pressures of the job and am always patient—but this felt more like a lack of care than a busy shift. Her section included only two other small tables, so it was disappointing to see how little effort was put into service. On the food side, my husband and I both ordered the steak fajitas. They weren’t sizzling when brought out, and the meat was extremely tough—almost as if it had been sitting out before being served. To top it all off, despite the clear signs we were celebrating a birthday (cards and gifts on the table), the server didn’t acknowledge it at all. Overall, this was a very underwhelming experience. I won’t be returning to this location and hope the management takes time to train the staff more thoroughly—or at the very least, ensure they’re interested in providing guests with a better dining experience.
Enter at your own risk, this place has RATS. I was in Laguna craving Mexican food, so I made the 30 minute drive… oh, do I regret it…. I was sat, the service was already mid, received my enchilada and saw a HUGE rat take the corner, he was fat too…. Ah, I got up and informed the server, she tried to sound shocked… said she’d discount my food, I said I don’t want it and ran out. Guys just don’t come here. Someone needs to notify the health dept.
