Hacienda Vallarta is a popular Mexican buffet known for its extensive selection and consistent food quality, especially the carnitas and pozole. Some diners find the seasoning mild and service inconsistent. It offers a mix of Mexican and sometimes Chinese cuisine.

We had a tough time with our server. We got one refill and she disappeared. Another gentleman i think the host kept checking in on us. And the table next to us.
I initially thought it was a restaurant I had been to previously..but wasnt.. but was pleasantly surprised....food selection awesome....great Valentine's Day lunch for the family!!!
Experience was amazing for less than $50 weeks got two amazing margaritas and a ton of really good authentic mexican food on top of some classic buffet items like Chinese and a full desert bar along with homemade tortillas! This place is amazing value and even cheaper for kids! The food was all really good and most of it seemed very fresh, not that busy but there were workers constantly walking around cleaning and helping out with any request! Has steak bar as well as Hispanic classics like pozole and menudo! There were also usual tex mex food like enchiladas hard shell tacos rice and beans and plenty more! As much as you can handle! Left this place hurting from how much we ate because it was just that good! (Even forgot to take many pictures because I was that excited to dig in!)
Can't go wrong here. Wide variety of delicious options. Very good value. Service is always great too.
Came to eat for Valentines day and it was our first time here. Wait time was not long and staff was quick, friendly and attentive. The selection was great although I wasn't able to try everything that was available. Great choices of food and able to have homemade tortillas was a plus. Definitely on our goto place and will highly recommend this establishment to any and everyone 👌 👍 Thanks for the great service and prices were great.
I almost didnt come after reading the negative reviews... boy am I happy I did try this restaurant out. Do not go by negative reviews, that was my lesson. Maybe they had an off day? Do not know. But Im very happy I decided to try it out. First time here and I absolutely enjoyed the food. I had the mole and rice. Some ribs and carnitas. I couldn't eat anymore but I'll come back to try the caldo de res and enchiladas. I had the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream, delish! All the food was tasty, warm and fresh. Staff was very attentive to the table and to the food on display. You need to try this place for yourself!
First time trying this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Everything, and I mean everything was fresh hot and delicious! Even the French fries! This has to be one of the biggest selections I've ever seen of food at a buffet. The Pozole was my personal favorite!! My husband loved the fresh tortillas and chicharonnes. There was so much we have to return to try it all. Service was excellent as well!!
God I wish I took pictures but the food is great. However I only get one thing and that’s Pozole lol but my wife gets everything else and we come here often. It’s an all you can eat buffet they have all kinds of food and it’s heavy on the Mexican food. So if you like endless enchiladas, this is your place!
The wife & I were out and about on a Sunday morning, when we started looking for someplace to grab a bite & hit paydirt. Our normal venture with Mexican food is pretty much breakfast tacos at a local Mexican chain or another we like to go to on our dates when we are in the mood for some good Mexican food. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find this place for breakfast and blown away at the selection. Yeah they had a plethoria of various breakfast dishes, but they had a wide range of other lunch/dinner items to select from some of which neither of us had ever had which was an opportunity to expand our palate & see what we liked, which was needless to say EVERYTHING. Everything we tried, some of which several times, was nothing short GREAT, flavorful, tasty and delicious. My ONLY complaint is that the restaurant is about 50 miles from where we live between San Antonios & Austin, so if the owner(s) are reading this you need to plant your flag somewhere like Scherts, New Braunfels, San Marocs or Kyle so the drive isnt as far. I would highly recommend this place for those who enjoy good Mexican food or are looking to expand their taste for interantional cuisine.
The food is good, just missing little seasoning, taste was bland, but ok, edible; dessert area was missing authentic pan dulce, I think Mexican food has a different varieties and doesn't need to have Chinese items on the menu; servers running around and not putting emphasis on customers, I have to ask twice for silverware; little pricey, once I pay less by pound, cleanliness have to be main focus too, I saw some little cockroach inside the bathrooms; so far the experience was good definitely I will be back, but put more attention on little details, before the health department do an inspection.
I have been going to this restaurant for years and now I have now been to both locations and I prefer the location on Bandera Road.

Fresh delicious Mexican and Chinese food. Everything I tried was better than just good. Homemade flour tortillas, perfectly cooked rice and mole. Shrimp cocktail and ceviche.
I’ve visited this Mexican buffet a couple of times with my family. The first time was top-notch—the food tasted amazing, fresh, and full of authentic flavor. It was a great experience that left us wanting more. However, on my second visit, I went right when they opened and it felt like some of the dishes had been reheated from the previous night. That took away from the freshness I had enjoyed before. Next time, I plan to go in the late afternoon when the food seems to be freshly prepared and at its best. Overall, the food tastes good and for the price, it’s one of the best buffet deals around. If you time your visit right, it’s definitely worth it!
Pretty Good! A little odd coming in since the hostess told us to sit and pay after. Then while sitting the waitress asked us for a receipt, after explaining we had to go back up front to pay and sit down again. Other than that it was pretty good. Typical buffet flavors and pricing. Make sure your table has a salt shaker because you may need it. The food overall was good, hot, and clean! Lots of options of Mexican and Chinese foods with a very large dessert bar. The staff were friendly and it was not busy at all during dinner time on a Wednesday.

The dining experience at this buffet presents a mixed bag. While the establishment was notably busy, it became apparent that there were not enough waitstaff to adequately assist guests, which affected the overall service. The food selection was varied and included some unexpected offerings for a buffet setting, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the desserts were disappointing and did not meet expectations, detracting from an otherwise decent meal. While the experience was satisfactory, I likely wouldn’t return for a second visit. That said, it could be a suitable option for families with children looking for a place where they can enjoy a variety of foods and indulge in a hearty meal. Overall, it’s worth trying out at least once, especially if you have kids in tow.
Ok food not really good. Sadly quality has dropped in the last several years. Some items not hot, dried out fried fish, over battered shrimp, chile rellenos delicious but full of oil. Server brought water and never stopped back to check on me but checked table in front and behind me. I go 2 or 3 times a year that's it.

Hmmm 🤔 not sure about the legitimacy of these reviews. Servers are amazing! But the food is bland and lacks flavor. Also, it says Mexican food, if I wanted Chinese or American fare I would have went to a restaurant that said Chinese buffet. Just saying, the food might be better if you focused on the target. Prices are decent and service is great so I'd say it's worth the money but nothing I'm excited to get again. The Rodeo Bar and Grill across the street is phenomenal unless one plate of food just isn't enough.
For a buffet, the food was very good. Great even. Maybe it was because we were there in the morning, or social media exaggerates. No Chinese food. Service. 2 servers in our section. Both walked by several times with a stack of plates and an empty cup at the edge of our table. This was over a 25 minute span. We were about 10 feet from the room where the drinks were. The tables on either side of our booth were offered refills and had their tables cleared multiple times. I finally got up and stood by that room with both of our cups in hand and a different employee ran from another section to refill us. When the cup was empty for another 10 minutes, the helpful server went to the 2 people in our section and said something, when one of them came over, looked at our receipt said, "35" and went to the register. She came back to the other server and said what tip we left at the register and immediately started acting like we were actually there.
A lot of people and very crowded. Very rude people. Many not speaking English. Food was without flavor. Very greasy and the steak was cold in the middle and raw. Also lacking flavor. I would say over populated and too many people in one space. The menudo was tasteless and even after adding the chili powder on hand it was still very bland. The food was just very poorly made and basically generic like food. The drinks glasses had grease on them and so were the tables. Even after they were wiped down. The waitresses were very nice but that was about it. Was hoping for a better experience. The last time I ate at a Mexican buffet was on fredricksburg rd at a place called tinka taco, the best place I’ve eaten at a Mexican buffet. Sadly they exist no more. I miss that place
We ate at the Bandera Road location today for the first time. Wanted to love it, but couldn't. Not at all impressed. The food temperatures were NOT good. The food wasn't even luke warm. It looks like it could have loads of potential, but not when the warmest food were the fresh tortillas brought to the table. I see a lot of the same complaints and don't understand how they can get by with that. Our waitress was very sweet and did a great job. The cashier was also very personable, but she didn't ask if I qualified for a senior discount. I should have thought to ask. The decor is very nice and it is nicely decorated, and clean. I can't get past the inadequate food temperatures though so we won't be back. They open at 9. We were there at 9:45.
20JUN25: I like buffets. I get to try many different items and as much of my favorite one as I want. So, a Mexican buffet intrigued me. Visited here w/ my son for dinner and was excited to stuff my face - haha. My kid just wanted fruit and the pork ribs. I got a myriad of different items to tempt my tastebuds. If everything was the correct temperature, it would have been a fantastic feast. But no...almost everything was cold and hard. My son said the ribs were like eating jerky. He really liked the Mac & Cheese though - and yes, they were hot. He said the fruit was good...nice and cool and the macaroni salad too. I've made some annotations to my picture about food temps. The Frijoles Charros was awesome. The tres leches cake was good. The peach cobbler...the top crust was warm; but the peaches were sitting in cold water? Why was there water in it? Is that a Mexican thing? How about the Cesear salad...it's not. No Cesear dressing on it. Just lettuce and cheese. I won't be coming back here again. I don't recommend this place to others. I think there's a new location opening on Marbach. I'll give that location a shot if it opens. Price was fair (based purely on food being the correct temperature), our server was great. It was a good experience w/ poor food safety. I hope Marbach's location will be good, because this is a great concept.

⭐☆☆☆☆ I knew something was off the moment we walked in and no one greeted or seated us. We stood there waiting with no direction. That set the tone. To make matters worse, we were quoted one price, but the receipt showed a different amount. That lack of consistency immediately raised concerns. The food itself was okay — nothing special, nothing terrible — but certainly not worth the confusion and poor first impression. The service started off rough. Our waitress ended up being decent, but by then the experience was already heading downhill. After getting our food and sitting down, we realized we didn’t even have forks. I had to get up and go ask for them, then wait another five minutes just to receive basic utensils. That shouldn’t happen at a buffet. Overall, the restaurant feels very dated and poorly managed. Definitely a one-and-done spot for us. We won’t be returning.
First time here, I tried to stay positive. But for some reason nothing was kept at temperature. The hot foods were cold, but the cold foods were warm. It didn’t seem like anybody was checking the warmers. The menudo had no actual like soup base, it definitely wasn’t as bad as some places but could cause some one to get food posioning.
I was expecting this to be really nice but the tamales were dry the ribs were hard as rock. The Gorditas were good and when we finally received the tortillas they were fresh and hot but we didn’t get them till the end of dinner and we asked for them at the beginning. Since it wasn’t our waitress who we didn’t know who it was the guy we asked didn’t get them. Also our waitress was upset that the Sierra Mist that my husband got tasted like carbonated water and he asked her to switch it to a Dr Pepper once we finished the first round of drinks she didn’t come back to our table and we needed drinks refilled. Definitely a big disappointment for our out of town Valentines dinner.
I really wanted to like this place because a co worker recommended it. I was not impressed. The only thing I really liked from there was the noodles and the rolls. I got very small portions to try everything and I was so disappointed. The food had poor taste. My husband tried the steak and he said it was the thinnest steak he’s had at a buffet and it wasn’t even good. Our server was great. He made sure we always had our drink full. Just really sad it was a bad experience. The prices for adult was fair but for the children who don’t really eat much was way too expensive. For two adults, two kids 3 and 10 came out to $70!
Oh my God! The worst dining experience ever! I don't know what it is about certain businesses along Bandera Road in San Antonio, but I can honestly say the racism that exists really gives the city of San Antonio a black eye! This is for my people who don't see color, or align themselves with people and businesses who are racist! They did not approve of my interracial relationship with my Mexican girlfriend. The food was horrible, customer service was horrible! If you are going to treat people a certain way because of the color of their skin, at least have some decent food, and not some bland food, that you tossed together for a buffet! I wouldn't recommend this establishment for anything! I just wish they'd had said they really don't like black people in the restaurant and I would have gladly left, no lawsuits, no lawyers, nothing! I really hate that I spent $38 dollars for the buffet, plus I was charged an additional $2 fee for using my credit card! The buffet cost more than Golden Corral and the food and service is terrible!
Well drove 32 minutes to eat this dog food. Old food isn’t even descriptive enough. That food was there since lunch. No doubt about it the spoiled flan was the real deal. I threw up in the parking lot. Worst 33 bucks spent in my life. I wish I had more hands I would give it four thumbs down!
Everything I tasted was bad. The food is old, been sitting there all day, or just warmed up from days ago. The shrimp was dry, old, and over cooked. The crawfish was days old and over cooked. The “clean plates” are dirty still, tortillas don’t taste fresh either. Waiter wouldn’t pick up the used plates from the table. This place is way over priced for the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. I don’t know how this place even made it to have 4 stars. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all
I don’t know if it was the day we decided to eat at Hacienda Vallarta or what but it was bad. My husband and I went on a Tuesday at 6pm there was maybe 3 other parties dining when we arrived. This was the first time we had ever been here. When we went to get our food the food looked old like it had been there all day (which it probably was). Most of the food was drenched in oil and even veggies… how is that?!?!?? My best plate was the one filled with salad. Some of the food we tried had no flavor not even salt. The best item my husband was the steak. My husband ordered a michelada and even that was bad, it didn’t have any flavor. We’ve been to many Mexican restaurants this place is not a good option. I suggest you don’t waste your time or money.
