The staff is always friendly and they greet you with a smile. After going several times they remember my name. Which adds an extra special touch. The portions are huge!!! A dinner could easily be two meals and often is for me. I enjoy the daily specials. Most are under $20 for soup, salad, entree, dessert and drink. The breakfast is breakfast. Its your standard fare. Every meal is enjoyable and keeps me coming back.
Food is excellent. Portions are huge. The owners make you feel like family. This is my go to place. Whenin doubt, go to the diner, you can't go wrong.
It was a very clean diner, the staff was attentive, efficient and professional. The menu was extensive and covered just about anything to give the customers a choice. The food was incredible. I highly recommend the Liberty Diner just off Route 17 in New York.
What a menu! So many selections it was hard to choose. We ended up taking half of our meals to go. The servings were very large. My husband has celiac disease and there were gluten free options for bread, buns, and wraps!
This was a really good meal. Nothing splashy or out of the ordinary. But very tasty. We were traveling through and ran across the diner. We had the jack daniels burger and the quesadilla burger (no salsa and sour cream but with mushrooms). Both were excellent. In fact, I’m thinking about it the next day wishing i could order it again. Yum. The woman that waited on us was very friendly and attentive. She really made the atmosphere pleasant and welcoming.
It was great no one helped my waitress. She was excellent. I had prime rib, which was delicious with five shrimp scampi‘s, a root beer soda that was flat onion soup that was from from zero being the worst 10 being the best of the best to three no flavor bread was outrageous. Good dessert I would’ve killed for.
I stop here pretty much any time I'm in the area around a meal time. Food is good, portions are big, service is excellent, and the prices are great. Love the family atmosphere.
I wish there was an option to give more than 5 stars. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Liberty Diner and I must say, it was an exceptional experience! Whether you're just driving by or looking for a great place out of town, this diner is a must-see. Not only was the food delicious, but the coffee was amazing as well. I highly recommend trying their breakfast options, as they were out of this world. One thing that really stood out to me was when I realized I had left my wallet at the diner. The staff was incredibly kind and mailed it back to me promptly. It's rare to find such honesty and kindness these days, and it really made my day. Aside from the incredible food and service, the diner ambiance was fantastic. The staff were also wonderful, attentive, and friendly, making me feel right at home. Overall, Liberty Diner is an absolute gem and I cannot recommend it enough. Don't miss out on this fantastic dining experience!
We were traveling and found this diner. AMAZING service by a wonderful waitress who called each of us "Luv," delicious food (3 of us had the deluxe burger and fries, and one had an omelette with fries). The fries were perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, just the right amount of salt. The burgers were juicy on a toasted bun, and so flavorful. The omelette was creamy and perfect. I wish we lived closer so we could enjoy this fabulous diner more often!
One of my favorite places to eat. Food is always good. They have tons of options also. Pretty reasonable prices. Their cheesecake is one of the best. Sometimes customer service isn’t always that friendly, hit or miss. Place is clean and little outdated. Recommend this place
My husband and I stopped at the Liberty Diner on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! The food wad absolutely amazing- I mean truly, not just "diner" amazing... all around delicious. 10/10 recommend
As truck drivers, my partner and I often find ourselves in new towns with little time to explore. This time, we had a pick-up scheduled in Liberty, NY, the day after Thanksgiving, so we booked a hotel nearby and decided to check out Liberty Diner for dinner. What a fantastic decision that turned out to be! Despite being Thanksgiving Day—a time when many places are closed or overwhelmed—the staff at Liberty Diner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and it felt like we were part of their family. The food was absolutely incredible—everything tasted homemade, fresh, and full of flavor. It’s clear the staff takes pride in their work. Even on such a busy holiday, service was attentive and friendly. If you ever find yourself in the area, especially during the holidays, don’t miss this gem of a diner. It’s a wonderful place for a hearty meal and genuine hospitality.
New to town and ordered quick online. Upon entering I was impressed with the decor, atmosphere and service. After chatting with Helen I felt right at home and left with our meal. Everything was delicious and prepared to perfection and I have finally found the perfect cheesecake! This place is a gem!
Wasn’t bad food was good. Had a good time
Great food and service. We had a very short wait after ordering and our waiter was constantly attentive. I forget the name of the breakfast I ordered but it came with 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, home fries and French toast. I ate it all! I'm usually not a fan of home fries but these were great, as was the French toast, which was made out of cinnamon bread.
Nothing but smiles here! Delicious food, warm comfy environment, incredible experience. The menu is extensive, something for everyone to enjoy. The staff is attentive and made sure our meals came out as requested.
I’ve been going there on and off and the food has always been exceptional, but I’m currently pregnant with my second baby and was craving Pita bread and tzatziki sauce and let me tell you it was out of this world 10/10 recommend
We deliver flowers around New York and we found this gem. The food is absolutely amazing. We are working our way through their extensive menu. There is definitely something for everyone. We stop every week, sometimes twice. We highly recommend this place.
The people here are wonderful friendly courteous and very family oriented, the food is amazing 👏 the service is excellent and I recommend the cheeseburger platter and napoleon
honestly just delicious. Elaina, the owner is honestly one of the kindest and most genuine people you will ever meet and the food, staff, patrons are all equally fastastic group of loyal customers. you won’t leave disappointed or hungry ever. GO.
Excellent Service and Excellent Food . Stopped today for New Years Day breakfast . We would highly recommend Liberty Diner.
Nourishing food at fair prices. Prime location just off Route 17. Fresh coffee and several options for tea. Ample parking, friendly staff and clean bathrooms. After his historic run for NY Governor, the Sullivan County Libertarian Party hosted Larry Sharpe here on October 18th, 2019.
A definite go to place and me and my family. The food is great, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the service kind and friendly. Whenever we want go to a Diner this place is definitely a top option. Diner owner is always lovely to see 💖🙂 I would definitely recommend.
Food is consistent over the years. Breakfast I think is slightly over priced. Desserts to me are a little disappointing BUT I am very CRITICAL of food. Plus, I am not really a dessert person. The food is good though. Service is EXCELLENT. It is usually not too noisy. They have no salad bar since COVID. Their pasta is good, onion rings, burgers, meatloaf & everything else I have had.
The Liberty Diner is my favorite diner, and given the countless diners I have frequented in my 71 years on earth that is high praise, indeed. The cuisine is varied and delicious, and the servings are generous. Yesterday my brother and sister-in-law treated me to lunch there and I ordered a bison burger deluxe, prepared perfectly. And O the ambrosial sweets, including baklava which I am most fond of! Also, the owners and staff are always pleasant and top-notch in whatever they do, lavishing people with smiling consideration. I love going to the Liberty Diner with family and friends, a place of many happy memories over many years. I highly recommend this Catskill restaurant.
During our road trips, my wife & I like to randomly check out diners for breakfast. Liberty Diner didn't disappoint us. I ordered the 2 eggs sunny side up with chicken fried steak, home fries & whole wheat toast. My wife ordered scrambled eggs with spinach, cheddar cheese, home fries & gluten free toast. Needless to say, our breakfast was delicious & fulfilling. We added Liberty Diner to our list and will definitely stop by again on our next road trip.
One of the best diners I've had the pleasure of visiting and what can I say about the soup heavenly 😋 everything is delicious
We had a wonderful waitress who was very attentive. The food was very good. We had Very Berry Cinnamon French Toast and it had so much fruit on top! We also recommend the chocolate chip pancakes, Mexican omelet, and the Garden omelet.
The menu was extensive. The food was delicious. I had the pesto penne with chicken. I had to take home a box because it was a huge dish. Yum. Others in our group had filet of sole a la grecque and crab cakes. The crab cakes were large and very tasty. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.
My mom and I were traveling through the area and stopped in for lunch. An unexpected great diner with great food! We had the chicken cheesesteak and the BLT. Im from Philly, so its definitely not a traditional cheesesteak, BUT it was actually really good. Our waitress was also really nice. 10/10!
We were immediately greeted upon walking in and had no wait to be seated. Portions are generous. Bathrooms are clean and well-kept.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect quick exit from the highway. Great food, generous portions, and super friendly staff. Clean, welcoming place with fast service. Highly recommend Liberty Diner, definitely stopping again.
Very good experience here day before Thanksgiving—stopped on way down to visit family on Long Island. Food was very good. I think the mashed potatoes were instant, but the environment made up for it. The waitress was very friendly—she had a child that was our son's age, so she was very patient with us which means a lot. When we were walking on the door, the maître d' was very nice and handed our son a rubber ducky from behind the counter—they have a rubber ducky machine in the foyer, which our 4 year old son wanted to play, we kept insisting that it's not worth it to play—because it won't guarantee you the rubber duck—didn't want to see my 4 year old sad in melt down mode because he didn't get a ducky. So, whether they knew it or not, they taught my son a lesson "good things come to those who wait"/"have patience". Anyway, the swiss-mushroom burger I had was great!—My husband had the gyro, which came with zuchini fries which was a fun twist on the gyro which he said was very good. Our son had the pasta with meatball and marinara, but didn't eat because he was worked up over the ducky machine in the foyer, but as I mentioned was worth the lesson learned. Experiences like this should be made intentional in establishments like this to teach children learned lessons... maybe I'll write a book about all of the possible encorporations we can adopt into restaurants and other stores and stuff—which can be disclosed to parents so they can be made aware that this lesson is available to them for their child, if they wish to guide their child on identifying the moral of the story. I'm a mom with ADHD who has a vendetta for modern children's books—they don't offer the depth in lessons offered in the books my mother and grandmother read to me. I'm trying to brainstorm ways to fill the void so I can raise my child to be perceptive, cognizant and aware of the world around them. The digital age has made parenting very difficult, as far as your guidance being impeded by technology/screens—even if you limit screentime, the exposure they've ever had has already wired their brain for what level of excitement is worth their attention(dopamine). So you need to outcompete that level of excitement to get the child's attention to teach them things. What a better way than real life experience in the world around them to teach them things—can't get anymore in-your-face than that.
Clean, bright, and a huge menu. Food was delayed however, the waitress was apologetic and explained there was a new chef training. Food was delicious. I am vegetarian and had no difficulty finding a meal. My partner loved his breakfast at 8 O'clock in the evening. Would definitely recommend.
My husband and I were in the Catskills for a weekend and we absolutely loved the Liberty Diner. We enjoyed it so much that we went twice. This family owned restaurant treats everyone as if they are family. They strive to make everyone feel at home with their kindness, delicious food and their sincere interest in the customer. They are one of the only restaurants in the Catskills that you can actually go to and get served at 11 PM during the week and midnight on the weekend. We never felt rushed. As a matter of fact, one night we were there past midnight and were never made to feel as if they were closing and we needed to leave. Kudos to the Liberty Diner!
After a delicious and refreshing meal, upon leaving, I left my phone on the counter and proceeded to drive 3 hours back home. The hospitality of this diner blew me away. Not only did they ship my phone back to my house, they covered the shipping cost as well! So glad my Father chose to stop here. Food is outstanding and a very clean restaurant. Reminds me of a time capsule or walking back into time. Highly recommended. We will be back! Thank you again.✨
I found this place whenever I was traveling on my truck route. I got the special which was the prime rib panini, and a pumpkin latte. The portions were overly generous & it tasted delicious. In the pic, I had already ate half lol. I would suggest visiting this place whenever you're in the area.
After two disappointing encounters with Diners on the trip, I have to say we were third time, lucky. Although this is a diner, the food here is a notch above your typical diner food. The space itself is huge with a lot of different seating areas. as you enter you are welcome by shelf full of cakes and pastries, and it was very hard for me to resist ordering a couple of them, but I had no space after the breakfast. We ordered a bunch of breakfast item, and I got the eggs. Benedict over crabcakes while my friends got the French toast and the omelettes. Everything tasted great. Although the crabcake was not very crabby, and I am sure they used some form of imitation crab, but given the price, it was still pretty good. The omelettes were very well made with a lot of fillings and the house potatoes to go with, that were very good as well. I loved the French toast with the Nutella, and it was gone in minutes. The only let down was the coffee and it was a very bad quality of coffee. I wish they invested in better coffee beans. Overall, a really good breakfast place.
Our server was very friendly and attentive. There are periods of special pricing for lunch and dinner. I came during the early bird dinner special, which has a special section on the menu, with option to add a beverage and dessert for $6. Many entrées include a soup or salad. All staff were courteous. There is a 4% discount offered if paying in cash. There is also the option to order online. Each table had sanitizer. Seating options were mostly freestanding tables, with some counter seating and booths. A lazy Susan displayed a delightful array of cakes and pies.

Ordered a veggie omelette with mushrooms, Swiss cheese and onions. Very generous portion and omelette was cooked perfectly! The diner is very clean and a pleasant staff.
I've only ordered takeout from here but so far everything has been great and the prices are reasonable!

So I set up a small luncheon for about 20 people after my sister's wake. I dealt with a lady over the phone and everything turned out great. They had it buffet style, chicken parm $ baked ziti,.pepper steak and rice pilaf. Meat and cheese platter with rolls and a big salad, also coffee, tea and sodas. Food was great. They were very accommodating and they didn't ask for payment until end of luncheon. So it turned out very nice considering I had never been here before. The one waitress was so very attentive with my party. It was a nice day.
Food was good. Arrived relatively quickly for our table of four and everything was hot/warm and looked fresh. Service was good, with refills on coffee offered several times.
We came here for Mother's Day. We had 17 people. The service and the food were ok. All the Mother's received a carnation, which was very nice.
ate here on our way back to NYC after a couple of days in the Catskills. most anything wouldve tasted great under the circumstances, but the pancakes and eggs were absolutely fantastic. def recommend!
Never do they have what they advertise on the menu and prices are sky high for the inconvenience of not being able to cancel order
Very nice atmosphere. The cream of turkey was excellent. The bacon cheese burger and corned beef were delicious but the beef on the French dip was a bit tough but very tasty. Definitely be back for another yummy visit.
As our family was leaving the Catskills we wanted to stop for breakfast. Liberty diner was the perfect stop that was enroute to NYC. The diner is very festive, upbeat, and lively. Loved that they are one of the very few places in the Catskills opened late hours. Large variety of choices on the menu, the food is very good, coffee was great. Service was excellent. Loved that they serve cocktails if your in the mood for a glass of wine after a long road trip, or other spirits. When visiting the area this will definitely be a place I visit for a sit down, bite to eat.
A motorway emergency brought my family to this diner at a late hour, when all other non-fast-food eateries were closed. It was still bustling, signalling its popularity. The whole place gave off a warm air of home dining experience. The portions were unmistakably generous diner sizes! My vegetarian panini was delicious; I only ate half of it and the other half became next morning's breakfast. My son wolfed down his chicken sandwich. The only blemish was in husband's shrimp and avocado salad: the shrimps were undercooked. I took a few home and microwaved them to perfection the next day :-). Their fries were surprisingly nice - crispy on the outside while fluffy on the inside. The bathroom was pristine. We pass through Liberty on occasion, and sometimes make a special trip to go antique shopping. Very happy to have discovered this culinary option!
They are trying to charge New York City prices for local food, which is not that great to begin with.

Not a place for those looking for a low-calorie foods. It’s almost impossible to find anything if you’re on a diet. The menu is very large.
Great food. Very nice staff. Overall a great local diner with a history. The rotisserie chicken was tender. Spinach was made to my liking.

Stopped on a road trip thinking got can't beat a local diner. We were seated quickly but our food, which was OK, took forever to come out of the kitchen. I wouldn't say it was busy for a Thursday night, but the kitchen was very slow. Food was average.

I came here to the Diner for dinner with my family for my wife's birthday last year. her chicken parmesan dinner and small salad was 100% fabulous and the rest of my family's dinners we're excellent. but my meal wasn't what I ordered and our waiter brought me the wrong plate then he came back and took the plate after I had my hands on the food and he gave the meal to the person that ordered it with out getting me a new plate. For an appetizer we ordered stuffed mushrooms but it was very small and had so much stuffing in it that the four of us couldn't eat it.
Go here if you want wait 10 minutes to order (not so bad,) but then finally order and wait an additional 45 minutes while another couple nearby comes in, sits down, orders, gets full hot entrees, eats, packs up leftover trays, and pays while you still haven't received your simple cold salads and gyro sandwiches. And then that gyro was clearly thrown together last minute after the waitress said "I'm going into the kitchen to fight for your food." Why did our order slip sit so long in the kitchen while others had no such issues? A table of at least 20 people also got regular full plates brought out while we waited. Our waitress was also overheard apologizing to other tables as well, so it wasn't just us. We never found out what was going on, but what started out as a strong night with fairly prompt early service and a quick starter soup, rapidly declined. We were getting very close to walking out, but I'd have felt bad not paying for the soup. Two stars for the okay start, and knowing that the waitress had no control over the problems in the kitchen. (Although we were trying to find her to flag down and couldn't catch sight of her for quite a while.)
I had a less-than good experience at the Liberty Diner. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, with a Lobster Bisque and Side Salad. I guess I should have been forewarned when my server didn’t even know that Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese had been added to the menu. The Lobster Bisque was delicious and the Side Salad had fresh ingredients. Unfortunately the good stopped there. My expectations were a Mac and Cheese with Buffalo Chicken added into it. When my meal came out, it was a ramekin of mac and cheese, with a deep-fried breaded piece of chicken breast on the side. The server was almost apologetic when she brought it to me. The chicken was overcooked and there was no buffalo sauce (nor any sauce) on it. The mac and cheese was just plain mac and cheese, with nothing added to it. I ate the mac and cheese and two bites of the chicken before I gave up on it. Buffalo chicken should have some sort of hot sauce - or even serve it with Tabasco! There should also be some kind of Blue Cheese either in the mac and cheese or served separately. It was a good thing that I had the bisque and the salad; or this review would have been 1 star. I was going to mention this all to the woman at the front register, but she was so surly and unpleasant that I just decided to pay and leave. This is the second time I have tried Liberty Diner as I travel through the area, and the second time I have been disappointed in the main meal; so I probably will not be returning.

Food takes forever and it's too expensive. I've started going elsewhere. Casi's, The Munson Diner, Danny's Steakout are better options.
I take my wife to the diner early in the morning at 8:00 in the morning because we just had a hurricane the night before and a lot of towns were without power. However being a nice person that I am I asked if their credit card machine is working. And they give me an attitude saying they don't know and they don't care. I don't recommend this place I recommend you go to Burger King rather than there
This is the 2nd time I got really sick a hour after eating there. The first time I thought maybe it wasn't the food, maybe it was something else. But today I went and only had eggs, sausage links, home fries and toast with butter and 1 hour later I threw it all up. I had to leave work and come home and lay down because I keep throwing up and feel horrible. I don't know what they are doing, but it's the last time I ever eat there again. I don't know if it's bad food or the chef isn't clean but I know there's something wrong. It is a dirty old looking place in the dining area so I can only imagine what the kitchen and coolers look like. I would love for Chef Gorden Ramsey to give it a good look. Or at the very least for a food and health inspector to give it a hard look everywhere. But anyway I have never written a bad review for anyplace in my whole life, but I just had to warn others about my horrible experience.
The worst hospitality service, waitress with attitude, not very attentive to us, the diner was not busy at the time, we waited for are long time coffee and water, that we never received are drinks, took too long, for family of 5 we walk out, we went to another small diner the New Munson Diner 5 minutes away, Owner & Waitress greeted us and sat us at our table took our drink order in minutes, very attentive the owner & waitress and diner was getting pack, breakfast came out on reasonably time, Liberty Diner gets 1 star from me poor service for hospitality.
Restaurants are few and far between in this area. Food was pretty sub-standard. Was to be expected . Simple dishes pretty bland.
If I could give this place a complete 0 I would, the service and atmosphere is horrible and very uninviting. We left and went to New Munson Diner that was absolutely amazing! Stay away from this place and drive to New Munson you will not regret it.
I was dinning at this place on last Saturday (8/17) and was seated on one of the tables area. One of the waitresses provided very bad service with extremely rude service, which left me and my family with very disappointed experience. The way of this server’s speaking occurred to us with very bad attitude. She should not be having this kind of bad self behavior. Hopefully, this kind of service should be improved or else this place will be losing their customers due to this kind of service provider and me and my family won’t be returning regardless.
I would not recommend going to this diners. The service is 0. We sat down and waited. Another family had cold food and complained. We were still waiting when another larger family sat down and the waitress served them their drinks and took their order, and we still waited. Eventually, another waitress asked our waitress if she even took our order, and that is when she finally came over. Food cold after being sent back. Take the extra 5 minutes and go to New Munson Diner 5 stars all around.
Wow, what a miserable experience. 20 minutes to get water and another 30 minutes to get a side of fries, nachos, and a turkey sandwich. Fries were frozen in clumps and tossed into the fryer because when stuck fries pulled apart the exterior of the stuck together fries were white… waitress was fine and apologized the whole time but like overall just a miserable experience. Not a local so thank god I don’t ever have to worry about coming here again. I feel bad for all the people who don’t have much choice for dining out in this area and have to be subjected to this sort of food and service.
Absolute worst service I’ve ever experienced at a diner! We were seated and then it took 5 minutes for the waitress (young girl) to come over and take our drink order. As she was walking over to us, she was on her phone and appeared annoyed to even have to get off the phone to come service us. Then 5 minutes passed by and we observed her bringing food to other tables before bringing us our drinks (mind you it was slow). We waited a few more minutes and just decided to get up and leave. As we were leaving, we passed her and she did not seem phased by our disappointment at all. Another waitress who saw us leaving asked what happened and we told her and she seemed shocked and concerned and looked like she actually cared. Kudos to her for caring. If you want a better experience, go to New Munson Diner!
i don’t see why this place has such a high rating, my bf and his family were eating here and everyone had something wrong with their plate, mashed potatoes were not completely cooked, missing item on plate, onion rings were bad because they used the outer layer of the onion, there was hair in the food and the cheese for some food wasn’t even melted, and saved the best for last i was served raw chicken in my salad. the only good thing was our waitress she was super nice and helped in every way.
Lousy once and lousy twice. If you like being ignored and served greasy food, then this is the place for you. We tried once last Saturday and thought we’d give them the benefit of the doubt and a second chance today. You barely get greeted by the madam in her kimono at the door, you get seated, wait, wait, wait a bit more to hopefully get noticed. No one offers you coffee or water or nothing. We endured the greasy food on Saturday - today we just got fed up waiting so we left. No one bothered to ask why - they were too busy on their phones at the front desk. Avoid… unless you like being ignored or eating greasy food - oh, they also have Newsmax playing in their tv’s, so maybe that’s your thing too. 1 star. Shame.
Dated and typical for a diner. Service was horrible our waitress was inattentive and we had to ask other waitresses to get ours before we even got to order. We both ordered (medium) steak and over easy eggs, buttered white toast with well done hash browns. We received none of that. Both stakes were very rare, the eggs were snotty & not over at all. Hash browns were blonde no "well done" in sight. The toast was the only correct thing. Our waitress had neglected to came back to check if "everything was ok" after bringing out our breakfast. When we did get someone's attention finally to address our incorrect order,it was 8 minutes later, that was even after asking another waitress to ask our waitress to come out to the table. The manager of the establishment did come to the table and attempt to get correct our breakfast but at that point I had lost my patience and just wanted to go. They did comp our breakfast but we left hungry and that is not the purpose when you go out to eat at an establishment. This is not our first disappointment in this diner we had eaten there several times before in the last 5 years and have been disappointed every time honestly & this time it had been almost a year and a half since our last visit and we thought we'd try again BUT to our dismay nothing's changed there. Food and service still disappointing. I have no more "chances" to give this diner. 3/31/25 We returned RELUCTANTLY and they did not disappoint with disappointing US as usual. I attached the picture of our "well done" home fries and when we Questioned why they weren't well down or even browned... We were told it's hard to cook them well done. Although our waitress was very apologetic it doesn't rectify the constant issue for this place to meet our demands for the food we requested. How many times do I need to be bitten by the same snake before I realize it will always be snake? 🐍
