We are from New Mexico and we’re missing the spice. This place did it RIGHT. Portions are huge, price is right, flavor is perfection. This will be the first place I bring a visitor.

Delicious! We got 2 Jerks and 1 Oxtail meal. The meals came with red beans and rice with a side of steamed cabbage. Take out only though. The Jerk chicken was juicy, tender, and spicey. The Oxtails was ok, not as tender as the jek, but it was still tasted good. Watch out for the bones though. The cabbage was tasty and well seasoned. Finally the red beans and rice was my favorite. It was a mixture of sweet, spicy, and savory. The best red beans and rice I've ever had. It kinda expensive but worth it. I'll be coming back - (2) Jerk Chicken meal for $15 ea - Oxtails meal for $20. - plus 15% tip Totally came out to $67

Love love love it here hands down my #1 jamaican resturaunt to go to. I had fried jerk, which is always good, not too spice ,but have a nice spice to it. My favorite is the BBQ jerk and they only have it on Tuesday. Everything have flavor unlike other jamaican resturaunts I've visited and food was tasteless and supper HOT. You will not be disappointed.

I truly love 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐜𝐚 more after every meal I buy. They prepare your order pretty quickly and it’s usually cooked hot. For today’s lunch I enjoyed jerk chicken 🍗 🌶 with rice 🍚 + beans and cabbage. My meal was delish per usual. Good customer service from the cashier as well.

Really nice portions!! [I got extra cabbage because it was my first time here, I didn't need it!!] Curry chicken was amazing! Spices were on point. I ate my jerk beef patty in the car on the way to the grocery store, my boyfriend ate his & the rest of mine while I was in the store and lied about it! 😂😂💯💯 They food is that good! Customer service was great, wait wasn't bad at all! I'll be back!

I can't express the way I feel about eating food from this wonderful place. I have been eating here for many years, and I never been disappointed. I eat here so much, the staff is like my family, and they are all such beautiful souls. This is a place you must go and try out.

I have had food from all over the world including "Caribbean" restaurants in Miami, and this is the best, most authentic menu and taste I've ever had. Coming from a Hungarian American, that's an accomplishment! And their new place looks amazing. They invested a lot of money into their business, totally worth it.

If somebody’s says they don’t like this place don’t listen to them bc they have bad tastebuds. This place has the most FIRE jerk chicken, cabbage and beans with rice. It never disappoints every time I get it. Thank you guys for making amazing food

I ordered the oxtail dinner that included a large serving of oxtail stew which also included sides of steamed cabbage and a large serving of beans and rice. This dinner was enough for two people! Everything was delicious! I plan to stop here often!

I've been to Jamaica 5 times. This is the closest to the same food experince I had there that I've ever had in the Cleveland area. The oxtails & rice is especially delicious. Always ask for extra gravy when you order!

Delicious, awesome place! Try the curried goat! Every dish served with plantains and rice and beans. Makes me miss my time frequenting Jamaica Queens when I lived in NY. Eating there reminds you of the Caribbean and this time of year in Cleveland it's definitely worth the trip!

The curry chicken was awesome, especially with the steamed cabbage. It would be nice instead of the fried bananas; if Taste of Jamaica can have fried Candied a sweet potatoes. The Jerk chicken Pattie was good as well. As a whole of eating here for the first time, everything is to come back for. Thank You Taste of Jamaica Employees!

Nice and clean atmosphere. Amazing food. I've not been a fan of Jamaican food. I've tried a few places in Cleveland and the food was awful, which led me to believe Jamaican food overall was awful. Whenever I wanted "island" food, I would satisfy my tastebuds at Bahama Breeze. Today, I decided to give Jamaican food a try one last time. Oh my word, the food was amazing! The jerk chicken was flavorful. The cabbage wasn't soggy and the beans and rice were not dry. I didn't even have to add seasoning to my meal. The food was simply delicious! The restaurant was clean and the customer service was amazing. I am super pleased with this establishment.

If I could give this place 10 out of 5 stars, I would. It is a local gem and one of my favorite restaurants. Anything you order will be delicious, but I highly recommend the whole fish red snapper escovitch with white rice and oxtail gravy, with a side of plantains. It’s one of the best meals in Cleveland!! 😊

I have been at these place only 4 times and I will definitely continue to return thanks to their great customer service!! 👍👍👍👍👍 Although the food can be a bit pricey I don't mind paying for it when it is justified by the quality, flavors and customer service of a place and this place definitely deserves 5 stars for all of it combined!!! I have ordered their Curry Shrimp, their Curry & Jerk Chicken, their empanadas and so far all the food that I have ordered has been beyond delicious!!

M

Three words. Exxxcellent Smithers, excellent. I don't know who those guys back in the kitchen are, but they're whipping up some serious voodoo magician carribean sauce stuff back there...a myriad spell of flavors and the perfect amount of heat creeping in that jerk. Fresh and hot made to order. Sides are also very flavorful. I hope it never changes. Quite Literally a hidden gem in the back of a shopping center

I don't do reviews but i told the lady i believe to be the owner that if i loved the food i would, so im making good on my word. I had the large Curry Goat w rice & beans & fried sweet plantains and i gotta say it was life, my wife had the fried red snapper head and all & was amazed on how good it was, the staff was pleasant & inviting as was the decor so we definitely recommend this place & we'll be back soon .

It’s rare for me to say that a restaurant has good food but this place is a cut above the rest. This was my second time have Jamaican food and I was blown away by how delicious the oxtail stew, red beans and rice, and fried plantains tasted. The cabbage was pretty salty however. I was come back to Taste of Jamaica everyday if I could, even if only to eat their red beans and rice. I’d recommend everyone try this place at least once.

My first time here since they moved from their original location. Food was still great 👍 I also love the space its well kept and very neat and clean. It definitely gives Jamaican Vibes 🇯🇲 It looks like prior to the pandemic you were able to dine in. I hope they go back to dining in soon. #JustIrie

A simple, casual vibe surrounding some seriously excellent food for fantastic prices. We got a big platter of jerk chicken, rice and beans, fried plantains, a large curry chicken empanada, and a drink for just over $10. The chicken is moist and flavorful, and paired with the rice, a nice spicy heat will build throughout the meal. The plantains were phenomenal, and the curry pastry a great tasty side. Can't wait to come back!

I've been looking for a restaurant with some really good oxtails since I moved to Ohio! I've tried about 4 different places before this one & was very disappointed, this place hits the spot! Lol! That 20 minute drive was well worth it, EVERYTHING had great flavor! My search is definitely over!👍🥰😋🤤

I'm from New York City and worked in Brooklyn for over 35 years. And Caribbean restaurant are common and plentiful in many neighborhoods, so my taste buds and palette are always on alert when I leave home and take a chance elsewhere. Taste of Jamaica has not disappointed the several times that I have ordered only-take-out. No dining is available. However, that maybe a good thing especially after chowing down on the tasty curry goat, delicious rice and cabbage because all I want to do is then chill for a little bit 😋 Hmmm, no plantains; and there is an additional charge for extra gravey. 😏 If you love soup drop in on Fridays to sip the conch soup, and do order a large. Prices are reasonable. And I have recommended Taste of Jamaica to several friends.

Y’all have the best Jamaican food in Cleveland hands down. This is what real food should taste like. The shrimp curry is flavorful and never disappoints. Please continue to be a highlight in such a boring town. Trust me yall will get more business over the next year when issue 2 passing trust me. Stoners are a very hungry community. Your food is so good I honestly think you have the ability to make it in a large city like the west coast or east coast.

The flavors really come out in the dishes I tasted. I had the oxtail stew w/red beans and rice and cabbage, all were delicious. I also tried the curry shrimp, which was also very tastey! The flavors are very authentic, and remind me my visit to Jamaica. My only complaint is I like things a little spicey, but the two dishes I tried, though not spicy they were very well seasoned!

Great food, oxtails, plantains, rice and beans, meat pies , cabbage, jerk fried chicken. I've been multiple times in '23, they haven't missed. I haven't had many oxtails over the years. After tasting TOJ I've tried about 3-4 other places. TOJ is still at the top. I have a few more to retry on Harvard. If you're close stop in and get some food. Oh, 3 stars for the atmosphere because you still can't sit at the booths, Nov '23. Place is CLEAN tho, maybe they want to keep it that way. Edit: 1/23/24 Additional star for the services. Walked in after 4 others I was in and out with a few dinners in under 10 minutes . Oxtails are still the freshest!

The steady flow of traffic as I sat in the parking lot peaked my interest. I went in made an order and it was good. I worked in a Jamaican restaurant for a little while and everyone in there was carribean/Jamaican so, going here it was pretty good. Not too spicy, not too salty, even though it was end of the night it was fresh. My only thing I didn't get much meat with my oxtail order mostly juice, a dumpling, carrots, and beans...but the few I had were delicious and fell off the bone!

T
Toya Butler

The food is good, if you are accustomed to spice or spicier island options this place does not offer additional heat. The jerk chicken is moist, well seasoned and a wonderful option.

A
AbStract Grapfix

It's s nice spot. I would say it's more of a Caribbean style encompassing all the islands with a sweeter flavor rather than deeper, smokier, spicier true Jamaican flavor specific to the island. But still great flavors and always plan on at least a 10 min wait.

Excellent food! The jerk chicken is amazing, the beef patties are my favorite, The chicken patties are not my favorite but this is based on my taste preference. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because it would be nice to have a few tables out for us to sit down and eat especially coming all the way from the west side by the time I get back home my food isn't as hot from when I picked it up.

R
Reef Therapy

Update: the store opened 10 minutes late, but the food was worth it in my opinion. Originally I rated 3 stars due to their late opening, and 10 minutes can make or break a lunch for people at work. I got the beef patty and large curry chicken. The flavor is great and the beef patty crust is crispy. It’s all very good. Food has to be decent because I’ve watched 20 people try to get in right as they opened. Too bad they aren’t open on time. I hope they realize how much money this is costing them. Looking at their menu, I’d say they already lost out on more than $100 minutes after they were supposed to open

Now let me begin by saying I am Trini and I love and scotch bonnet like the next, but dang!!!! Who is controlling the spice level in the jerk shrimp??? Usually I get the curry shrimp and it is mild but delicious every time. My fiance always gets the jerk chicken and he brought me home the jerk shrimp today...The spice in the chicken had NOTHING on the shrimp. I cant even enjoy the meal because my mouth is on fire. Even my cabbage is fire. I didnt want to waste his money so you should see me here warming up some coconut milk to mix in. I tried brown sugar and honey... I probably made it a whole new dish by now.. I told him no more jerk shrimp, just get the curry and I will spice it up myself.

Food is really good! Always fresh and flavorful! What makes it a 3 star review, is the atmosphere of the restaurant. Customers are still not allowed to dine in or use restrooms. Management requests that patrons wait in the lobby for their food after placing their order. Customers aren’t allowed to call orders in ahead of time or sit down and wait for it to be done. Just a tad bit offensive and unwelcoming! Gives “give me your money and get out” vibes!

Overall ok, they seem to only keep a certain amount of food, so when I went there the curry goat was gone (No I didn't come at closing time; came a few hours before). I made it to my 3rd choice & it had good flavor but it had more bones than meat. I would go again but maybe early to see the difference.

J
Joseph Immler

The flavor was good, but I'm not used to the amount of bones and joints that are served with the meat. Maybe it's how they do in Jamaica but my portion of curry goat had about four bites of meat and the rest was bones and gristle. They run out of Jerk Chicken pretty fast, it seems. I'd like to try it again and have a chance to change my rating.

I ordered a large plate $16 of Jerk Chicken with rice as the only side. This much rice and so little chicken is ridiculous.

The chicken had a lot of bones very disappointing. Do not recommend.

I’ve been coming to this place way back when it was on Noble and Warrensville Road on Mayfield and it has always been great until recently . I usually get the Oxtails or Jerk chicken. Here lately the oxtails aren’t spicy enough and today I got the jerk and brown stew. The container was labeled and I noticed the jerk was bland and the brown stew was hot and spicy. Somebody is not paying attention to what they’re doing. They’re about to lose a customer.

I recently moved to Ohio from Philly & was craving some Jamaican food. I decided to try this place out because they aren’t to far from my home. Upon arrival, there’s ample parking, it’s in a nice area and the facility appeared to clean/well kept. The prices were fair and actually less than what I anticipated spending. I bought a large oxtail for $18 w/ extra gravy for a $1 up charge. With that being said, the food was underwhelming in my opinion. The oxtails were tender, but the sauce was extremely salty . For a large, there wasn’t a good meat to rice ratio. The platter was almost all rice & peas. I didn’t particularly care for the cabbage either.

I got the curried chicken with rice and beans and cabbage. My girlfriend got curried shrimp It was a decent amount of food, but together with a couple cans of pop and a tip it was nearly $40. The chicken was bone in which would be fine, but they chopped it up right through the bone so I had to clean every little cube and was still spitting out bone shards. The curry sauce was also pretty bland. Maybe the jerked chicken would be better.

I noticed their price went up a bit but was disappointed that my quantity of food went down. I got a large curry chicken and they gave me five small to medium size pieces and they were tough. Both the cabbage and chicken had tomatoes in it, I don’t do tomatoes. I’m usually happy with my order but for two dinners and the meat was tough for $24 I’m good on them for a while

Not a lot of options. The chicken we ordered was full of bones, little ones and big ones that it made the food difficult to eat. I, personally, only had the rice and beans which was amazing. The place looks nice, but the food reeks of hole in the wall. If they could get the random bones in their meat sorted, place would be great. It doesn't even tell you what part of the chicken you are eating, so there is no way to guess. If I did guess, I would assume breast. It had alright spiciness from the food, but this did leave my boyfriend sick enough to vomit. We both eat spicy curry often, so I do not know what it was. For 17 dollars that we spent here, I would have preferred to go to McDonald's and get something that didn't make my bf sick or was full of bones in every bite.

I ordered the ox tails for lunch. Way over cooked. Seemed like it had been heated and cooled several times. The meat was very chewy. Beef patty tasted alot like a golden crust patty. Was hoping to give a better review but couldnt. Probably wont go here again.

Don’t get me wrong the food is great the service is also great however if you are looking for authentic Jamaican food this is not the place. The jerk sauce is more of a BBQ. It’s low key a a gentrified Jamaican spot. I also didn’t like how you can’t order extra meat you legit have to order a entire separate meal. If you have had this and like it you really haven’t had real Jamaican food

J

decent food but the service here is one of the worst I've ever seen at a restaurant. the staff is nice, but the wait for food is usually at least a half hour for something that looks like would take 5 minutes to prepare. they advertise their hours as opening at noon and closing at 8 but there is ALWAYS a line outside, waiting until 1230 at times for them to open their doors. they should show up earlier to get rdy for opening or just change their operating hours because I like others are sick of wasting when we often have a limited amount of time to take lunch. I would without a doubt come here WAY more often if these things weren't an issue.

Ordered oxtails and jerk chicken. The jerk chicken had no jerk sauce, but was loaded with brown gravy. When asked if they had jerk sauce on the food they responded yes, but when we got home we had something different. Not happy.

The brown stew chicken is too sweet with no kick to it. Rice and peas don’t taste good. Cabbage is good but there’s no authenticity to this food. Only plus about this place is they always got fried plantain.

The food was not done, meat would not come off the bones, secondly called the place he begins to tell me I was the first person to complain and said he was not going to replace or give me my money back. Very poor customer service

It was pouring down rain, I tried to call in and let the lady (Caucasian) know that I’m directly in front of the establishment and she could utilize my card number because I was going to sit in the car anyways to wait on my order but she was too busy trying to drown out what I was saying by over talking so I just said never mind and chose a different Jamaican restaurant. They loss me as a customer on her behalf! Prior to this day I used to come all the way from Burton OH to patronize but never again!

service is good but the food isn’t good at all. the chicken was dry all the sauce was on the rice and even that had 0 flavour. i recommend island style in east cleveland for some good jamaican food

You can’t even use the bathroom, even if you are a paying customer. Where do the employees use the restroom? It says because of Covid, COVID is over. Then they said the bathrooms were out of order. She had the nerve to tell me I can leave and come back and there is no refunds all sales are final. The food is not that great anyway. Taste of Jamaica do better.

My experience was the worst food experience I've had in a long time. The ox tails were sooo rubbery you could play hand ball with them. The owner was just as lousy as his oxtails. He did not possess good customer service skills. He did not refund nor give me substitutes for his horrible cooking. Those oxtails was not marinated or slow-cooked nearly make me sick. Taste of Jamaica gets a negative 1 star from me.

Disgusting every time I try it. I am a huge fan of curry and the only time I come to this place is when my favorite place island style cuisine is closed. No flavor and spices with there curry, taste like its straight out of a jar. No extra curry sauce on the rice, just alot of dry rice for 10 bucks. The best thing they have is their cabbage. Way too many bones, not enough chicken. Dissapointing. Over and over. This is my 3rd and last time at this place. Was hoping it would get better since it moved from the last location further down mayfield but still the same yuck. Wont be back ever!!

Didn't receive what I ordered and when I called to give them an opportunity to fix their mistake. I was told "you must have said jerk chicken. " I purchased $65 worth of food and it was wrong 🤷🏽‍♀️. No replacement or refund offered due to an honest mistake made by the cashier. I won't be returning and this was a favorite place of mines up until today.

I'm from Jamaica, Queens in New York City. The ONLY THING!!!! JAMAICA about this place is the sign OUTSIDE!!! I didn't want to put 1 star, there was NOTHING LOWER!!!! The food was not real Jamaica food, the beans in rice was WRONG!!! The JERK SAUCE... Oh sorry the BBQ SAUCE. If you like this food, then you have NEVER EATING JAMAICA FOOD BEFORE!!!! Food may be half decent but customer service is very poor. There are restaurants where customer is king. Not this place. Here staff can be unfriendly and even the slightest requests will not be accommodated because of “principle”. No substitutions (even for extra money) or any changes to your order. If something is wrong don’t expect any fixes. There is a grim warning about not using cellphones near the cashiers. -) Be careful or you might be in deep trouble. 😃 In a nutshell a joyless hole in the wall restaurant.

Customer service was HORRIBLE the “owner” had a terrible attitude when I called to make a complaint she brushed it off… the food is not that great for her attitude to be that horrible! 0/10 wouldn’t recommend. I rather drive far to the REAL Jamaican food spots in Cleveland than to deal with her. I hope she gets it together as the “owner”

I recently was sold 4 old jerk and curry patties that were not fresh. Upon getting home, as soon as I took out each patty the dough began crumbling in my hand, the dough was burnt on the bottom of each patty in which I did not see until I got home, and the top of each patty was caving as if it was pockets of air in the patties. None of the patties were full of meat and each patty tasted spoiled causing me to have to throw away all 4 patties. Do better Taste of Jamaica. The restaurant definitely knew these patties were old & still wanted to make money off them
