Fabulous all round – from the excellent wine recommendations and top-notch service to the deliciously dependable crème brûlées. We’ll definitely be returning!

We were looking for a place to have lunch in between meetings and what we found is this gem. It is a French style bistro that serves different dishes for fair prices. The waitress was friendly, very attentive and efficient. We had meat with fries and salad, nothing too fancy but everything was of good quality. Most people in there had wine and all the other dishes I spotted looked delicious. A charming place with good food for fair prices. Recommend!

Loved it , been on my list for ages and didn’t disappoint . The services was attentive without being intrusive. The food was beautifully cooked and the attention to quality goes down to the butter . Portions are generous too. Will be back

Every member of staff was kind and attentive. The utmost care was taken to make sure we had a lovely experience without feeling suffocated. The food was delicious, fresh and reasonably priced for quantity and quality. The ambiance is excellent as it give you the sense of being in a small French bistro somewhere of the beaten path as opposed to the middle of London. If there’s one thing I can recommend it’s to get the fries they are to die for!

Have been lucky enough to come here twice this week. Dinner on Monday was faultless and one of the nicest restaurant meals I’ve had recently. Work Christmas lunch on Friday was equally fantastic and at £29.50/head for three courses exceptional value especially for central London.

This dining experience brightened my day with delicious food, great service and tasty wine options. Caught up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. I started with the wild mushroom croustillant, followed by salmon fish cake with Hollandaise sauce, spinach and salad. Apple Tarte Tatin with espresso for dessert. My friend had the duck foie gras and a steak for mains. Highly recommend the Bleeding Heart Bistro if you’re around the Farringdon area.

What a great place! Great food and service and the restaurant is not too loud. Smart without being intimidating. A really nice experience.

First things first, the Bleeding Heart Bistro is not the same as the Bleeding Heart Bar & Grill though they do sit just across the yard from each other. It’s amazing how many reviews here are written for the wrong venue… just make sure you know which venue you are actually going to/making a reservation for. The food was fantastic, with service friendly and welcoming; though the wait between our starter and mains was a full 50 minutes, which is a bit long to go on a bowl of soup. Not a place for a quick dinner, though in true French style I think they really want you to relax and enjoy the culinary experience so I wouldn’t hold it against them. Automatic points for the ancient yard location, lending a real olde London flavour to the atmosphere. They trade off the gruesome “history” of Bleeding Heart Yard on the front of the menu, though (spoiler!) Elizabeth Hatton is recorded as dying of natural causes. The actual “victim” in this very yard was a different Lady Hatton from a story published around 1837 involving a pact with the devil… Bleeding Heart Yard also features in Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit as the home of the Plornish family. Imagine sitting here reading the novel over a glass of wine. Heating outdoor seating available in addition to the rustic wooden interior. If you found my review or photos helpful please leave a quick thumbs up 👍 Merci beaucoup!

The Bleeding Heart Bistro, is situated in the Bleeding Heart Yard just off Greville St in the heart of the City of London. It is a French style bistro with pavement cafe seating. There is no traffic in the yard and the enclosed space is free from traffic. We sat outside and it really felt like we were somewhere in France. The tables, the canopy over the tables; along with the red and white theme, really set the scene for a French dining experience. The service was excellent, efficient, friendly, and we never felt rushed or hurried. Would I go again, yes I would, it was a lovely place to eat and we had a fantastic meal.

A taste of Paris in London. Concise menu with ample specials and if course a deep wine list and inviting bar.

Delicious menu in particular the tarte tatin is heavenly. Plenty of staff, very attentive but not over bearing. Will definitely make it a regular when in London - 100% recommend.

What a fabulous venue for a wedding. A beautiful church with a great atmosphere. As a wedding planner I get to work in wonderful venues, and these vaults will be wonderful for wedding breakfasts 💍💒🩷

Great staff and attention to detail. The food was cooked really well and the staff were attentive and didn't leave us waiting. The poussin was well cooked but a bit lacking in depth of flavour, the aioli did save it however. The sea bass was cooked well and the skin seasoned well and crispy. We would definitely come back for another try at the a la carte menu.

Stunning food. From the beginning we received the most attentive service. Patient and carry, the entire team phased in our paced. Food wise, we loved it all. Starters, mains, cheese (these folks understand cheese!) and dessert, everything was of exquisite quality. We're a bunch of folks who love wine. The Bleeding Heart is just all about the same Philosophy. Top end food, quality service and cracking wine.

Wow - My friends and I enjoyed another absolutely sensational dinner here at Bleeding Heart Bistro. Everything from the super friendly and attentive service to the delicious French dishes and rustic bistro décor make a dining experience here 5*. I can highly recommend their Rib-Eye steak frites followed by the stunning Cherry Pudding dessert... genuinely some of the best food I've ever eaten anywhere in the world. Sublime. If you're looking for a great Central London pre-Christmas venue for dinner with friends or work colleagues then lthis is your place. Highly recommended 10/10 can't wait to come back again soon.

A lovely little gem tucked away in a courtyard in Farringdon. It's been a long time since I was able to find a place in London that still offers a classic dining experience that doesn't feel like it's blatantly trying too hard to drum up Tiktok hype, this restaurant felt pleasantly far from it. With traditional French bistro vibes, excellent service, a great atmosphere and delicious food, what's not to love. I'd highly recommend the set menu if you have trouble picking from such a large selection of great looking dishes. A standout favourite already, I'll be visiting again.

A real find, tucked away in a courtyard. As others have posted, a taste of Paris in London. Excellent food and wine menus, delicious tasting and looking dishes, friendly and helpful staff. I'll be coming back!

Thank you so much to Soraia, Timea and Amelia for their excellent responsiveness and help with planning. During the late stages of the planning, Soraia sorted changes to details very quickly and effectively, which was much appreciated. Thanks also to Benoit, Matios, Gabriel and Karim, all of whom were extremely helpful on the night, and provided great service.

Perfect place to go if you fancy French food in London. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great and the food was delicious too.

The service was spot on, so friendly and attentive. We were so well looked after. The food was superb, a French bistro doing exactly that, we couldn't have asked for more. And the Tarte Tartin, well we have never had better. Thank you for making a birthday very memorable.

Great French Cuisine a (long) stones-throw from Farringdon Station. Has a welcome pub/eating area at the front and then, at the back of the yard, a separate Bistro and Restaurant. The Bistro is typically French decor and has a warm ambiance. Food is of a good quality and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

This visit was to celebrate a friend's birthday. We chose the set menu and had all three courses. The choice was good (including for one vegetarian) as was the food and that was when we each ordered different items. The service was attentive but not overly so and we had a lovely time.

Amazing Chateaubriand + bottle of Morgon + delightful service in lovely decor = bliss. So lovely to find this restaurant is still top of its game and to see it packed on a Wednesday night. Absolutely delicious rare beef with an amazing bernaise sauce and well dressed salad. Our meal/wine was well priced for quality & quantity. Will be returning to repeat! Thank you!

Tradition holds true! These guys were and still are the best. Food and service are on point and they just know how to run a restaurant. Loved it! 15 years since I last went here and it’s just as good as I remember

They catered for my wedding and I went there with my wife for my birthday. Simply extraordinary. Great attention to detail. Wonderful food. Excellent wines (ask for recommendations from the sommelier, they always have very valuable advice). And the hospitality is simply superb.

Marie! Marie! We love Marie! Excellent customer service She’s the best Very good customer service Probably the only person who cares about the whole restaurant and hospitality industry and beyond all holding on to the legacy of bleeding heart Over all very good food But Marie’s service is excellent

Had a great time dining here. The food was excellent , and wine pairing suggestions from the sommelier was spot on. Service was spectacular; my friend has intolerance to yeast and some other allergens, so she asked to omit the sauce on a dish. The waitress then communicated some possible alterations multiple times to ensure she had a good dining experience. At no point did we have to wait to get anything.

Really lovely food, and attentive service. We were in a private room so difficult to comment re atmosphere .

It’s quite unique and posh in the area that you can’t order from the bar and have to be seated. Nothing wrong with that, just be welcoming. Not everyone is a lover bird 🤪🧡🧡 small, but cute place. In Farringdon is a bit much to have a table service.

Lovely little courtyard for alfresco dining tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Chancery Lane. Good value set menu lunch, with classic bistro fare. The roasted aubergine with wild mushrooms was a nice twist, though. Excellent service. The one thing that could be better is the bread, but that's a minor point, and the salted butter was very good.

J

Traditional French bistro with woody and red decor. Couple of mins walk from Farringdon station and 6 mins walk from Chancery Lane. Staff very warm, polite and friendly. Good social distancing and safety measures. Although I would recommend checking temperatures before entry. Food was good. Could have been served hotter but I noticed the kitchen was an annex outside the restaurant. Good selections of wine, well lit and a generally lovely ambience.

the food and service was 10/10 Loved every bite of it 😍 Maybe think about the design (the lack of it) of the inside garden / balcony? Did not match the outstanding food :)

The service was outstanding—the waiter kindly took care of our jackets and escorted us to our seats. The starters were excellent, and the main course was truly an exquisite experience. While the portion sizes were on the smaller side, the exceptional quality of the food more than made up for it. The crème brûlée was slightly overburnt on top, but still enjoyable. Overall, it was a very positive dining experience.

Nice bistro, good atmosphere and food. I had the salmon omelette which I would recommend. Fishcake was also good. The Chicken chasseur perhaps not so much.

A very disappointing experience at Bleeding Heart Bistro on Friday evening. Booked well in advance for a very special birthday celebration. Welcomed effusively, but then fell into a Bermudan Triangle where we felt completely invisible and ignored. Very long gaps between anyone ever noting we were due for another course. Bland girl (trainee?) unable to engage. No apparent experienced supervision. Only enthusiasm was to foist more wine from the very pricey list (everything over £45 and upwards) and pour it rapidly. When we subsequently requested the wine list, nobody returned to take the order! Food was very good from the set menu choices, however, and the chef was doing his job well. Can’t say the same about the ladies on the restaurant floor! Nearly didn’t agree to pay the discretionary service charge - first time we have ever seriously considered this anywhere. Reluctantly paid it. My wife let them know our degree of disappointment - because of the absolutely dysfunctional lack of service attention - in a cool-headed and eloquent critique as we left. A nominal apology was voiced….. Headed off to Bleeding Heart Tavern on the corner to conclude our celebration more positively where we had an absolutely brilliant experience, with a delicious and competitively priced NZ white wine. Cheerful welcome, sustained attention, immediate quality service and Happy Birthday sung twice led by the BHT team. These guys did a lot to redeem the Bleeding Heart label. What a contrast!

I was looking forward to eating here given its gravitas. It was a surprise that for a Thursday evening, albeit a late summer bank holiday weekend, that the restaurant was maybe 25% full and the terrace around 40%. For starters we had fresh crab and a fish soup. Both we well presented and were tasty. For main we had a Lobster Linguine and fillet of Sea Bream. The time between starter and main was somewhat longer than I am accustom too. Both dish were again well presented with the fish beautifully butterflied. However both plates of food were on the small side. The potatoes served with the Bream were pathetic. The largest was the size of the end of my thumb with 4 or 5 even smaller ones. The fish was also over cooked, such that it had lost all of its moisture. Deserts were a twice baked chocolate soufflé and Raspberry Charlotte. These were both of the standard we would have expected. I get the impression this place is surviving on a previous reputation that it no longer lives up too. For me a restaurant that does not update its weekly changing menu online, has somewhat lost its focus. I may return in the future to give it a second chance, but I will be in no hurry.

Annual Xmas lunch in London service was very average food not the best especially when you are paying a premium. The starter of trio of Scottish salmon was the best course , Rib eye steak was average and the same for the cheese board ( had to ask for extra crackers) The wine was very good a recommened pino nior & St emillon to go with the food from the waiter. Also espresso martini were 👍🏻😊

Booked a table here for 3pm but they actually close the kitchen then so you have to order before 3. Bit of a backstreet, scruffy place with a dark interior and uncomfortable chairs outside and wobbly tables. Food was ok but nothing special.

B

Not over impressed with main course but starter and desert okay. Visited for business meal, staff good and efficient. Was in the basement which was to hot. Old building with history to discover.

O

The food was good and tasty, although the portion was quite small for the price. The service was disappointing -- we waited for about 20 minutes for any waiter to approach us and take order or give us advice with the menu. Later waited for the main dish for about half an hour after the starter was finished.

L

Great shame was looking forward to dining but when we arrived there was no room in the restaurant, so was put outside with no one else, temperature was around zero degrees with a few heaters in a tent… Probably not the best move and slightly short changed. Bit of a shane.

Went to a champagne dinner event, good not great, not actually that many glasses of champagne received. Disappointed as previously loved the bistro. Most disappointing of all, I went to effort of emsyiling them in detail, no reply or acknowledgement of message ever received.

Extremely rude waitress. Greeted us with a super rude head gesture and didn’t say a word until we did. The restaurant was extremely loud too.

Charged £160 for cancelling a reservation (£40pp) despite giving more than the required notice. Have been told it will be refunded but not received straight away and kind of offer as an apology

We visit Hatton Garden frequently and have always stopped at the Bleeding Heart for lunch, spending c. £500 a visit and always recommending to friends and family. Our last visit was with our 2 year old and the maitre d was frosty, saying there was no space despite the restaurant being empty. We insisted, collapsed the buggy and had him in a chair, the restaurant remained at 50% capacity for the duration of our meal. We hoped it was an off day but todays visit means we will never return. We arrived to the bistro and again, the maitre d seemed hostile to the fact I had a push chair, he told me they were fully booked (fair) and to try the wine bar. Before we got to the wine bar he had gone through the back entrance. The female maitre d at the wine bar seemed fine to book my husband a table until she saw our buggy and then told us there was no space for the buggy. We offered to collapse it and use a car seat for our infant but were still refused. Really sad as its used to be one of our favourite places in London but the lack of service, attitude and hostility to our young family means we won't be back.
