Amazing food and the best service we've experienced in a long time. Such friendly staff!

You must try this restaurant. We went to notting hill and fully recommend you to try it. Check out the cocktails ...they have a happy hour

Great local caribbean food place, packed with lots of flavour also a decent list of cocktails if you're fan of rum.

The Rum Kitchen is a little gem adjacent to Portobello Rd. Grab yourself a curry goat or mutton and you wont be disappointed! The venue is open planned and the staff are very welcoming. If you're visiting on a weekend try and grab a window seat so you can see the passers by and enjoy the music blasting out of the record shop opposite. #Vibes

Loved the atmosphere and decor at this restaurant! They had fun drinks and cups to go with them! Food was great! The sweet potato fries are the best I have ever had! What ever is in that season is award winning!

We had a really good time here, it was quiet at the time we chose to go. The service was friendly and welcoming. The drinks and food came quickly and we were very satisfied with our food. The jerk chicken was really tasty, the goat curry succulent and full of flavour, we left stuffed and happy.

In my opinion, the BEST West Indian food restaurant in West London. Don't get me wrong, there are great cafes/ take-aways in West London at a much more reasonable price, but for a sit-down meal - this tops it for me. Great food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. FINALLY a restaurant that I can enjoy an evening out and eat tasty authentic food in a nice venue. Thank you Rum Kitchen!

Hit up Rum Kitchen after it's refurb and was hugely impressed. Not only by the food and drink offering but also by it's unique decor and overall vibe. Last time I visited I found the food below par in comparison to the soho restaurant but this time round I could tell a lot of time and effort has been made bringing it up to scratch, if not better than any other Rum Kitchen I've been to. Enjoyed myself so much I've found myself there at the weekends enjoying a health bowl with my laptop firing out emails. Felt inclined to write a review as a result seeing as this is probably one of my favourite places to go over west, alongside the electric.

Nice place good atmosphere cocktails are really good, could do with more staff as this seems to be a poplar place and gets quite busy. Had chicken thighs with rice and peas slaw was very tasty but some of the other dishes I personally wouldn't order. The staff were very friendly and polite and apologetic for being so busy. Bar man was a perfectionist with cocktails every one of themntasted amazing.

Cosy, warm and friendly. This little restaurant and bar is very close to Portobello Road Market. The food is delicious, maybe spicy for some people but for me it was superb. You could also try some other dishes that are not. The staff are really helpful and pleasant. I really enjoyed the music. Oh my goodness my kind of music!! There's also a dance hall downstairs and their cocktails are rated greatly by my daughters.

Very nice and cosy. The most rum I have seen in years. Went with my mates we were more stoned than someone high on drugs. So nice. Lovely drinks. Drunk maker.

Lush food. Dangerously yummy cocktails. I have gluten and dairy allergies which were well catered for. Staff consulted with chef who advised and adapted the menu to suit. Will definitely visit again.

I have been here twice before..... my uncles wanted somewhere local to go! So we ended up here.... the staff couldn't be more helpful..... we was greeted by a lovely French waiter (Very Tall) he was very accommodating from the start he explained everything to us..... he recommended that he had some new cocktails if we would love to try we declined but the food he suggested was great.... Another waiter sorry I don't know anyone's name mixed race with a sharp trim lol that's all I remember was always checking if we was ok, making sure our food was alright...All staff members was lovely from the door man to the waitress very smiley... The food was nice but the Seabass had a lot of pepper....one of my uncles order, the mutton was tasty ... I kept it simply by ordering a fried chicken burger with Plantain.....and chips I will recommend my friends for the five star service and great food 10.11.17 Thanks we shall return xxxx

Great place to enjoy food and drinks with friends, came here for a celebration. Served in a timely manner on a busy evening, staff are friendly and provide good service. Intriguing selection of drinks and desserts with rum of course.

Music in the background and delicious food. What more can you want? Oh wait...did I mention the numerous different cocktails they had

Awesome cocktails! But they really should invest in paper straws now that the plastic ones are no longer used ! My lipstick was all over the glass!! Lol Good food, chicken was a little dry and it could have been hotter but flavour was lovely. Waitress and waiter were awesome! Parking free after 6.30pm Thank you for a lovely evening. Will definitely visit again!

Food could be spicier, drinks could be stronger, and menu could be slightly longer. Still, this hasn't stopped me dining in and having take-away twice. The quality of the food is high, flavours are great, staff are friendly and accommodating, and there's some choice Caribbean tuns on in the background. Some portions are big - like the TRK Jerk Chicken bowl, others are small like the Jerk Chicken Surpreme. I feel it's best to go with a group, order your own dish and throw in some sides for sharing to get a good taste of the menu.

Food was delicious! Although it was really cold in the inside and had to use their Robert dyas heater to keep warm. They did however move us to a different table. The downstairs club was AMAZING! The only fault here is when I got home my stomach wasn't too great and was throwing up (guess I had the food poisoning)

J
Jairaj Matharu

Lets gets this out there at the start this is NOT authentic Caribbean food! I like to think of the Rum Kitchen as being 'heavily influenced by the Caribbean' but not 100% Caribbean food. The food is great and tasty, but the atmosphere really makes this place - wonderful music, attentive staff and the best bar menu around. Definitely recommended for groups of friends! Rather overpriced IMO.

Booked a birthday party their for my daughter. Everyone loved the food. Staff were super-attentive, and everyone had a lovely time. Supervising waitress even offered to make sure waiting party gave us time to exit without rushing. Gave four stars because not the best Caribbean food in London, but they were very good, and my daughter loves it so, there you go!!

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food tasted great; most meat and the drinks even more so. Food arrived quite quickly. Good cocktails. After dinner we went downstairs where a DJ was getting started which was good fun.

Surprised to see lukewarm reviews. I thought the food was excellent: chicken tender and deliciously seasoned and rice beautifully fluffy. Atmosphere is very lively too.

Nice vibes lighting was just right to set the mood.... don't get the squid was too disappointing. I feel the food tasted much better in the carnaby branch. Cocktails happy hour :)

A fun little rum bar in portobello. They serve food throughout the day and cracking rum - based cocktails throughout the evening. Their sound system in the basement is great and you'll get a good crowd most nights of the week.

Overhyped, overpriced, fad restaurant. Don't go here expecting great West Indian cuisine, it's ok at best. Nice place to bring a date, or some mates for a few drinks and selfies. It's also tiny and doesn't have the best of staff; not sure what their problem is as when I went there it wasn't even busy. Whatever you do, don't forget to reserve a table and avoid disappointment..

Came for a friends birthday. Service was good, food was ok. Probbly more suited for a English pallet. Cocktails are great! Nice atmosphere on a friday night if u want a bite to eat and a drink.

From their Christmas menu I enjoyed the sweetcorn fritters, the spicy fried chicken burger was disappointing but the fries were good. Friends who ordered the rib eye steak really liked it. The cake served with the coconut ice cream is also disappointing. The service was very poor. Constant requests were made for cutlery. There were no steak knives. The burger was served without the fries. The serving staff were clearly untrained and would often forget our individual requests. The restaurant was not completely full so we couldn't work out why the service was so poor. Fortunately our server had a pleasant nature. Make sure you check what you're being charged for cocktails because I was over charged and alerted the bar man. Our table was not dressed at all considering its Christmas. The service was so poor that the person who booked our table complained to the manager. The complaint was received well and we were offered a goodwill gesture. This prompted the 3 stars I have awarded. The main course I recommend is the steak with thick cut cassava fries. Additionally I did not get the run punch they state they serve on arrival! I can think of other restaurants more deserving of my money.

Food is really good. Highly recommend eating here. However , serving staff needs to be retrained. The host or manager was lovely but to different servers forgot our drinks twice and in the end we just never got a chance to ask for it a third time so we just left it off the bill. One of them came off rude after simply asking a question. I’m not sure how the other locations are but perhaps go to one of the others instead. The food is definitely worth it

Not legit Caribbean food - barely any Caribbean staff working there. They add ridiculous service charge to everything and they said its 'suggested' but get upset if you ask not to pay it. It's definitely over-priced and there are other reasonably priced and more authentic restaurants in the local area that you could go to instead. I would say that its slightly Caribbean, the best thing about it is the 'free' kettles of rum that they give you which actually tastes better than the drinks on the menu. Overall I wouldn't really recommend.

I got a take away of boneless chicken thighs with rice and peas and coleslaw and some green chilli mac'n'cheese. Mac'n'cheese was tasteless and overpriced for the amount and the quality that you get. Rice was cold when my food arrived and there wasn't much sauce on the chicken although it was tasty. Very well presented for a take away though. I would probably have it again some day. Maybe it's better in a restaurant ?

For someone who has been to several Caribbean food places. The food was underwhelming. Could’ve used much more authentic Caribbean spices. The jerk chicken tasted nothing like the jerk I’m used to. The service was great though

V

Had ribs and veggie burger, which were okay. Sweet potato wedges with coconut flakes were nothing special, some sweet potato fries were raw. Nice music and friendly staff.

The cocktails were not as good as expected. However they were not very expensive. I went on a Friday and both the bar and the restaurant were crowded. Overall it was not an amazing place but was OK for a drink.

S
Simon Frost

Very slow service at the bar, it took 25 mins to even order a drink let alone the snails pace it took to make them. The food came out in various stages, and some didn’t arrive at all, meaning some in our group were still waiting for their food after everyone else had eaten. The food and drinks are really good, just leave a spare afternoon waiting for them!

I can honestly say I will not be returning here for a meal. I was here for a friend's birthday, some of us had ordered red snapper, which was priced at £15. No problem, what I received was nothing near expected, we were all disappointed. The fish was overly salty, overcooked. Have eaten at several different jamaican restaurants with quality food. Drinks was OK, too much ice. Might return for just drinks, if am around the area.

Being a huge fan of Rum I'd wanted to visit The Rum Kitchen and after finally getting around to it I was left massively disappointed. Service was really good and we were seating quickly and the waitress made sure we had everything we needed and was very chatty as she was explaining the specials however after that everything started to go downhill. The 2 rum cocktails that we tried (Mai Tai and Rhumbongo V2) were very average and at £9 each I would have expected a lot more. The Rhumbongo in particular tasted like very cheap fruit juice and not much else. Compared to other places charging similar amounts these didn't even come close. We grabbed a couple of small dishes to pick at while we were drinking. The baby squid was ok, but not something I would order again. Some bit were quite tasty however most of it tasted of the batter and the squid was completely lost. The sweet potato wedges with coconut flakes were a bit of a joke. £5.50 and we were delivered a bowl containing 3 pretty soggy wedges. We didn't manage to try anything else as the food & drink experience so far put us off ordering anything else. From what I'd heard it seems as though standards may have started to slip

Staff were extremely rude and despite the restaurant being practically empty didn't even get around to serving (the 3 of) us. After waiting 10 minutes to even be welcomed we seated ourselves and after a further 10 minutes of being ignored we decided to leave. Both the crowd / staff lacked any diversity - would never have known I was in a "Caribbean restaurant"

Bad bar staff The food and bar staff upstairs were lovely. But the barman in charge downstairs really ruined our night.. First they told us happy hour had already ended when it actually lasted another hour. Second they charge extra 'service charge' (usually around £1) on top of the menu price even when ordering at the bar which isn't explained anywhere on the menu. Third the barman with the afro downstairs was really slow, and took a card payment for £5 then later told me the minimum on card was £10.50. When I challenged him on it he just said 'oh I must have messed up the first time'. And still tried to charge me the full £10.50. On top of that, my friend had been charged £3.95 for a rum and coke, then when I went to the bar he wanted to charge me £8.50 for exactly the same thing. We gave up and went home.

Wish I didn't have to give any stars! Was there with Carribean folk and they were also not impressed. Awful water downed cocktails. I had everyone on the happy hour list, not a buzz from alcohol at all, just a rush from all the sugar in them. The barman actually said it is happy hour, do they are, what do you expect!?!? Food! Was gross, so cold and no flavour. I had jerk chicken and had to ask for more hot spice! I am a medium Nando's kinda person...so this was very bland. And my food came very cold. We were in a group and I was hungry so just ate some chicken. The place was very, very poorly lit up...and with stairs that is just dangerous. No light in hallway on entrance, no light on stairs or hallway into toilets and the toilets stank to high heavens! Really would not recommend this place at all! So disappointed!!! Waste of money!

One of the worst dining experiences I've had. I went wih my mum, boyfriend and 1 year old sister. First of all they had no changing facilities for babies. The layout/space of the restaurant was POOR and uncomfortable. To top it all off, after having ordered our food, we waiting 1 hour 15 minutes for our food! The staff failed to explain that the kitchen staff were behind on a party downstairs. I'm pregnant and didn't appreciate waiting so long for CRAP food. The saltfish fritters were terrible, saltfish could have been soaked longer. The food we received after waiting for so long was not worth a penny charged! I will NEVER return to this place. It was a horrible experience. We didn't recieve 1 apology for the wait. Rum Kitchen is NOT a good a good reprentation or twist of Caribbean cuisine, nor was it worth the money we spent. Pissed off tbh.

What a disappointing experience! While the food was decent, due to the poor customer service, I will not be back. I have been to the Brixton and Carnaby Street branches and was generally pleased. Therefore I invited 7 of my colleagues to the Notting Hill Branch,so that could experience Caribbean cuisine, some for the first time. What a comedy of errors! The food took almost an hour to arrive ( the restaurant was not at capacity) and there were not enough glasses for water as they indicated that they were short on glasses . Additionally prior to ordering, I asked if the Snapper was whole or sliced and I was told it came whole, however what my colleague received was sliced. When I brought it to the Waitress' attention she flippantly replied she was new and didn't know. As soon as we finished our meal we were told that our table was needed for another reservation and that we had to move downstairs. When we did move downstairs, we asked if the seats were reserved and having been told that they were free, we proceeded to to take a seat and order drinks. We were then told that since we were only ordering drinks we would not be allowed to sit. ( However the bar area was filled). I explained that we had just eaten and were relocated due to another reservation. I was told that was the policy. At that point we cancelled our drink orders and left unimpressed.

Had the worst Caribbean food ever. Ordered the squid which was actually salty deep fried batter with no squid. Very disappointing. I also ordered the sweet potato and avocado side which was burnt and soggy. To make matters worse I found a plastic wrapping paper in my jerk chicken wings. They do not deserve to call their food Caribbean. On the positive note, the atmosphere is very lovely n the staff are very helpful. Its a great place for drinks but not food unless your drank.

R
Ryan Cox

30 minute wait turned into an hour on my birthday. Really expensive drinks in the meantime until we eventually just left because the staff had given our table away. Went to Saporitalia instead which was really good!

J

Came here for a work Christmas party, we booked a table for 10pm. Got here early so went downstairs for some cocktails which were great! However it got to 10pm and our table was still not ready.. we were told to wait, no problem.. finally got our table at 11pm, We were rushed to order our food as the kitchen was closing even though it was there fault we waited a hour for a pre booked table..once we ordered our food, our boss who actually was paying for our night out had to hand our plates down to us as the service was awful! We was already upset about waiting so long for the table! We practically served ourselves! Obviously working in customer service ourselves we know how to deal with a situation like this. Of course, we accpected some sort of discount or extra sides of chips for the inconvenience.. anyway we wasn’t happy with the service, who would want to pay for such a bad experience?? We asked to speak to the manager who was rude, sarcastic & unprofessional, he wasn’t helping the situation in any way as he wouldn’t even listen to our bad experience as we tried to explain it to him. He kept saying ‘no1 can leave until the bill is payed’ this went on for about 15 mins until we in the end just walked out. Maybe the place just wasn’t for us ..

My partner and I were very excited to go to this restaurant because we had read a lot of good reviews about it. Unfortunately the service was particularly bad and the food average, which was disappointing as they have a rather limited menu so you expect the few dishes they do serve to be perfect. After half an hour of waiting for our food we politely asked after it only to be met with a rude reaction instead of an apology. Overhyped and expensive!

M
Ms T x

We ate here 05/05/2018 and the food was awful, firstly the fish is not redsnapper its a thick rubber fillet of some sort of fish. The curry mutton was full fatty meat. The coconut rice was not coconut rice it was just rice and peas and flakes of dried coconut on top YUCK. The drinks were watery and over priced. The music where do I start - it was slack and disrespectful do not take young children there every song was p@@@y and C@@k. This does not represent Caribbean culture HOW EMBARRASSING!!!!!! If we could give ZERO, I would!!! Never ever would I go there again .....AVOID people !!!! There are better places to go.

I hate to write negative reviews but the service here was so poor. Waited over an hour for our first drinks and another 30 mins for starters. Cancelled the mains as it took so long. Even when it came to pay, their payment machine wasn't working so they asked if I could go to the cashpoint and bring cash. Really??? Restaurant or Comedy club where I didn't get the joke?

Actually waited all day to eat at this place for a friends birthday meal ....was very very disappointed. Nice place for drinks but the food....omg.....overly hot even when you don't order "jerk from the menu...fish burger was not a fish more like over cooked fritters with pepper n the wings was overly spicy....N that was the normal one... service was average but I can honestly say I won't be eating here again. As I said for drinks very good.... suggestion for the company.....not very food should be overly hot and should not hurt customers. Sorry guys I hope the other branches are not the same....it would be like "turtle bay" another copy with no orignailty apart from the appalling food.....that u can't beat!!

R

Was told the wait for a table would be 15mins, that's fine we can wait 15mins is not a problem. She sat us in a corner to wait and would come to ask us what we wanted to drink. Never cane round again, we had to ask if she had forgotten about us, as we ended up waiting over 30mins. When we did get a table, didn't get the water we requested, and then the food took a nearly an hour, overall waiting an hour and 30mins for food. When I complained, all we got were excuses, no way to make us feel like the wait was worth it. Just a sorry. I'd spend your money some place else

What a disgrace we can here for a birthday lunch as it was recommended. We didn't realise it wasn't open till about 6. We travelled all the way from ealing the doors were open and it was hammering down with rain. We went in and said is it possible we would shelter out of the rain. The man said in an abrupt rude tone no I said no . What happened to customer service. Stay away if your looking for a friendly environment
