Great pastry and brunch addition in long beach. Sat down for brunch on a Saturday and there was no wait. Order their dirty nutty, which has espresso, chai, and peanut milk, and it tasted like just what the ingredients sounded, which is great. Also got the brioche toast with pistachio and ricotta cheese topping. The topping is generous, and the brioche speaks to how good the attached bakery must be. Also had their version of croque monsieur with a croissant, bechamel sauce, ham, and fried egg. The croissant is truly a stand out, even with the sauce, the 🥐 remains very flaky. Will definitely go back to try something out if the patisserie.
Amazing Food, truly unique dishes. It could easily hold its own in Italy, and will soon be fully booked out, based on high quality and small touches.
Excellent food and prices are reasonable for the portions. We ordered the Turkey Sandwich (IL TACCHINO NUOVO), Salmon Lox on Sesame Bagel, and Country Bread with Butter and Jam. We also ordered a cappuccino. Everything was prepared well and tasted delicious. The sandwich came with a side salad with a vinaigrette. Seating is outside on the patio only - you can see them making your food inside near the cashier if you do takeout. I wish they served food until closing!
Great brunch spot, full sit-down style. The dishes were excellent, pastries delicious and airy.
I love everything about this place. The ambiance is very lively but also kinda laid back, which is great for people watching but you could also bring a book and nibble on a croissant and be totally happy. On this first visit, I ordered the baked eggs and they were DIVINE. The dish is served with about a full 1/4 of a yummy warm tasty baguette and it was perfect for sopping up the stewy goodness. The folks-in-law both had the traditional breakfast spread and both cleaned their plates. Hubby had the lox bagel and he almost always complains about local lox but not today. He ate every bite. We left with a couple of delicious goodies from the inside market, which is a must-step-into when dining at this great little bakery/bistro.
Incredible homemade pasta. Delicious pastries - we got the pistachio croissant and the strawberry cream one. They also had a great coffee and drinks menu. The patio seating was absolutely adorable and our server was great.
What a cute little bakery cafe, With delicious pastries, breads, lattes, and coffees. You can’t go wrong with a Pistachio Matcha White Chocolate croissant from this place it’s so good. They also have outdoor seating for your convenience to enjoy al fresco. A great addition to the city and neighborhood.
First time here and would recommend trying one of their pastas if you don't mind sitting outside where an occasional fly can land on your food/table. My experience was unique because a preying mantis landed on our table and startled my fiance. I recorded the experience as it was humorous to me, but it was also terrifying to say the least. A brave server saved the day by gently removing the creature and we learned the mantis was employed for pest control as there are various plants that surround the front of the restaurant. I enjoyed tasting the honey pistachio ricotta brioche thing and the rigatoni, highly recommend both. Wanted to try some pastries but was stuffed, so maybe next time.
Went here for brunch and it was amazing!! I used to frequent the Wood&Salt Tavern in Bixby Knolls, but this place exceeded all expectations. The manager Daisy Dominguez is so sweet and welcoming and made this experience a whole lot better. If you are thinking about eating here, just do it! This place definitely earned themselves a new regular. The food is the best I've ever tasted. Even my friend who has been to Italy says that the food was way better than what she had in Italy! After eating here, it was all I could think about the rest of the day. Please give this place a try! You'll love it guaranteed!
The sourdough is to die for. I can't even say it's the best bread I've ever had because it's unlike any bread I have ever had. It's in its own category, you'll know what I mean when you try it. Absolutely unreal, my boyfriend picked up 3 sourdoughs this morning. Addicted..... So unreasonably good. Life-changing.... I have a stomach ache I have eaten so much, and I'm not even upset about it. ❤️
So I had reservations for the Summer Nights special tonight. After making the reservations I noticed that several items on the menu contained pork. I reached out to the restaurant asking if they would make accommodations on their prix fixe menu & happily they were able to make modifications for us! So grateful for their incredible service! Highly recommend!
We all know the pastries and bread at Nonna are world class, but come for lunch and you will discover that the pastas are spectacular!! The carbonara with the beautiful orange egg yolk is soooooo good!! They have a great little wine list, including orange and natural wines. Their coffee drinks are great too!
If you’re in Long Beach and craving a meal that feels like a warm hug, Nonna Mercato is the spot. Founded by Chef Cameron Slaugh, this neighborhood artisan bakery and Pastaio blends French and Italian roots with a passion for tradition. They hand-shape naturally leavened breads and pastries, sourcing the highest quality organic and sustainable ingredients—straight from farm to table. We stopped by and let me just say—the Malfaldine stole my heart. Think rich, creamy Bolognese swirled with Pecorino and basil. Pure comfort in a bowl. But the real star? The cultured butter and jam—I could honestly visit just for that dreamy combo. Don’t skip it! For starters, the Caesar salad with little gems, seeded croutons, parm, and cracked pepper was super fresh. Pro tip: let the croutons soak a bit—they soften up beautifully. My partner went for the Croque Seniora, a buttery croissant layered with French ham, béchamel, taleggio, and sunny-side eggs, paired with a House-made Bloody Mary. Let’s just say he didn’t leave a crumb. IMPORTANT REMINDER—they stop serving food after 3. I didn’t see this anywhere, so please keep that in mind when planning your visit. Heads up—there might be a wait, but you can snack on pastries and sip specialty coffee from their market while you hang out. Street parking is available too! Nonna Mercato = weekend plans sorted.
My BFF and I tried another one in our list. I've been hearing about Nonna Mercato for a little while, but never got around to it. I've heard and read many good thing about place. First impression, is how we were warm welcome with the staff. Our server is friendly and attentive. They make everything from the bread, pastries, condiments, and pasta. The dishes are simple and traditional. We ordered the classic country bread with butter and peach jam with our Spanish Latte. The mushroom quiche with a small side salad with shaved parmesan was just average. The mushrooms lacked flavor but the pastry crust flaky and tasty. I guess i am not a fan. The croque seniora was just okay. I did bring home a Nutella croissant and a morning bun and both were fantastic. The croissant was generous with Nutella fillings. If I go back, I'll try maybe a pasta dish.
Food here is outstanding! We picked our food to go for an impromptu picnic at the park and enjoyed eveything. The carbonara was a knock out, very rich and decadent. All the pastries were yum, but the morning bun was our favorite. And the sandwiches are so well constructed with bread that was obviously baked fresh. Only thing ill say is the patio is not good for large parties so if you intend to dine in, the seating there it ideal for parties of 2 or 4.
Came here for Brioche with ricotta, honey, and pistachio. Got two croissants which were Strawberry & cream and Bacon & onion for togo. For Brioche I requested for honey on the side because I prefer to adjust the sweetness by myself and it was perfectly scrumptious. Millions out of ten! Brioche itself was soft, buttery, and tasty so it complimented very well with ricotta and honey plus a bit crunchy from pistachio. Oh one bite and I was blown away. My taste buds were dancing happily. Let’s talk about croissants. Normally, I tend to like savory croissants more than sweet croissants. However, after I tried both of them, strawberry and cream is the winner. I really like the filling. I’m not sure if it’s mascarpone or something else that went really well with strawberry jam. It’s so freaking good! Bacon and onion croissant was not bad at all but as I stated earlier, strawberry & cream is the winner for me.
Everything we ordered was buono (insert chef’s kiss)✨! Good, healthy, adequate portions meaning not too large but you can definitely share. Brioche french toast blew me away, insanely good!! Carbonara was authentic, creamy and flavorful. Mafaldine was so delicious I almost did not want to share:) Their pasta dishes are perfectly al dente, the way it should be. Croissant dish melts in your mouth, well balanced meat and cheese ratio. Steak and frites- yummy!!
I had a great experience overall! The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the country bread, carbonara pasta, and Nonna breakfast; all were flavorful and well-prepared. The food really stood out. The only downside was the coffee. I had the “Banana Buzz,” which sounded promising but turned out quite watery and underwhelming. Coffee may not be their strong suit, but thankfully the excellent food more than made up for it. Be prepared for a long wait if you're going for brunch as it gets busy! Still, we’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely in love with this cute and Earth toned chic eatery and bakery. They’re limited (in a good way) on seating. They don’t seat you until you have your full party. When you walk inside there’s a bakery that kind of seems hidden. They have bread, muffins, and croissants for sale inside (not listed on dine in menu really). They also sale individual beverages inside too. When I sat down with a friend to dine, the table was set so cute and aesthetically appeasing. They pour you water from a glass bottle (sophisticated 😅). I ordered the quiche which they serve it with bacon or veggie. Come before 10:30am if you want veggie because it sales quickly. It came with a delicious salad. I loved having Marissa as a server!!!! She made the entire experience definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. She was so attentive to our table, explained the menu, made suggestions, and was very conversational throughout my dine in experience. She is there Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday ✨🌸 Their menu also consists of yummy lunch items and some pasta 💛 If you’re hesitant to try, I’d say give it a shot! Worth every penny! Oh yeah ☺️ you walk away with a card at the end with the name of the restaurant which is so thoughtful and rare 🥹💕
I got this bologna sandwich with the focaccia which was delish but do yourself a favor and get the rigatoni which is what my aunt got, it was delish!! Has a little kick of spice though so be aware of that but it was so good!
I had an absolutely fantastic experience at this charming French-Italian café bakery! The food was a solid 10 out of 10 everything was bursting with authentic, juicy, and delicious flavors. I had the French omelette, which was perfectly cooked, and the baked eggs were just as amazing. My cappuccino was rich and smooth, exactly what I needed to round out the meal. I was visiting a friend nearby, and we decided to give this place a try I’m so glad we did! It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the food speaks for itself. A special shout-out to our waitress, Kaylee, who was incredible she checked in on us regularly, made sure everything was to our liking, and even brought us some extra bread when we needed it. She also introduced us to their homemade hot sauce, which was absolutely delicious such a nice touch! If you’re in the area and love authentic, flavorful food, I highly recommend this spot. It’s a hidden gem that you won’t regret trying!
The cafe is a walking distance from the place I stayed for a short vacation. I ordered a Matcha pistachio croissant and Strawberry and Cream one to-go and they're really good. I can tell they are baked fresh. The staff is very friendly and their cafe had a welcoming atmosphere. Even though it was a Monday when I visited, it felt like a nice, relaxing Sunday morning. Got myself a cup of hot cocoa as well which was equally delightful.
I absolutely love this place and would recommend it to locals and anyone visiting. This is a very cozy cafe - restaurant. They got amazing pastries. The food on the menu is delicious as well. Perfect brunch place!
So Nonna Mercato gets packed and for good reason. We recently stopped by this Bixby Knolls hot spot for lunch. Parking was a bit difficult but we found street parking. We ordered a sandwich and a pasta plate. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back to try other plates and the bakery pumps out some delicious patties by the looks of it.
Nonna Mercato in Long Beach’s Bixby Knolls is an absolute gem! From their incredible food to expertly crafted coffee, every detail is thoughtfully executed. The homemade bread and pasta are standout highlights, delivering that perfect balance of freshness and authenticity. The vibe is warm and inviting, making it a fantastic spot for a casual bite or a special outing. And the service? Top-notch—friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. It’s easily one of the best spots in Bixby Knolls, a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food and great atmosphere!
We ordered our food to go but sat in the lounge area outside to eat our pastry and sip our coffee. Our cashier offered to bring out my peanut little once it was done. It was delish!!! The gf vegan chocolate muffin was not lacking and I would definitely get the chocolate goodness again. It wasn't dry and was ooey gooey. The coffee was delicious too. Even the drip. The patio was also dog friendly.
First time here ! There was a bit of wait when we arrived around 1. It wasn’t too bad - maybe around 15-20 minutes . It was so cold outside but they have heaters outside which was so nice !! The waitress we had was great . We initially wanted coffee and pastries but decided to have a proper meal instead . We ordered a Caesar salad , and two pastas. Everything was made fresh to order and it was pretty delicious. Our favorite was the Tonnarelli Alla Carbonara without the meat ( sooo delicious !) and we ordered a dish with mushrooms ( that was good too) I really wanted to try the ricotta pistachio toast but was too full . We definitely will come back to try the coffee and pastries 🥐!
This may be the greatest bakery/restaurant in SoCal. Amazing sourdough - properly baked! Don’t skip the morning bun. Then the regular menu is executed so well - pastas, Caesar, and panzanella are amazing. High quality spot!!

Classic breakfast hit the spot along with the steak frites. Their bread is super fresh. Had watermelon lemonade and London fog for drinks, both quite good.
What a lovely little market, bakery, coffee shop, and restaurant all in one. I’ve gone for both just coffee and pastry as well as lunch/brunch. Their breads and pastries are house made and fresh. And even from the parking lot, you can enjoy the heavenly scent of freshly baking pastries. Their coffee is delicious and well balanced. I had very much been enjoying the seasonal “Winter Blues” latte which is made with an earl grey, lavender, and blueberry syrup. Everything I’ve tried on their lunch menu has been excellent. I particularly enjoyed the vegetable quiche, the fusilli with chanterelles, and the buratta di campagna. Their pastas are house made fresh daily. Service is friendly and quick. Seating is in a covered outdoor patio, so dress appropriately for the weather. They do have heaters they can turn on in the cold and sun shades to block the afternoon sun. There is a small parking lot behind the building and usually plenty of street parking.
Ordered a chocolate naked cake for my grandson's 5th birthday. It was THE BEST chocolate cake we ever had. It was decadent, moist and not overly sweet. You know a cake is good when guests ask to take some home. Special thank you to the baker Alyssa, who made our day extra special.

It was my first time there and the food was great! And I loved the vibes there! Although there was a small bad experience with the hostess with first saying it was an hour wait when there was so many empty tables there... and then her never calling our name and letting people who came after us sit down before us.. she said it was because she saw us ordering coffee and had to keep the list moving but as a hostess ur supposed to call people's name out loud and clear and let them know the table is ready, if she had saw us inside she could of just called our name and we would had just order our coffee at the table then.. I don't know it was just a odd experience to me for her to do that.. I'm not letting that stop me from eating again next time but I would hope I won't have a negative service again 🙏
Visited this place after hearing so much buzz, and I'm always on the lookout for great pastries. Opted for a baguette and a dessert after brunch. The place was bustling, with lovely outdoor seating and interiors resembling a modern European bakery. Looking forward to returning post-diet for a full pastry feast!
the pastries was okay but I actually came a little late so you know what that means whatever is left over is what you get, the passion fruit cake was very delicious my mouth was watering the croissantflaky very desirable and the strawberry pastry I didn't really like

Food quality is good and expected given the prices but it needs to be asked what is the point of running a place with breakfast goods when it a) only opens at 8am and then b) it still being a gamble if your preferred breakfast pastries will be ready. Walked into the place too many times with the stuff not being done for me to return. Food quality: 5 Reliabilty: 1
I really wanted to like this place. The food was surprisingly disappointing. Ordered the Caramelle pasta dish and it was essentially dessert pasta. Extremely sweet and the portion size was pretty laughable for $25 (about 8 pieces of pasta) My friend ordered the Mafaldine pasta and it was ok. Not repeatable.
I was disappointed today because my pastry was a letdown – mostly air with very little filling. I had high expectations given how great everything usually is. The bread, however, has been consistently terrific. I'll give the pastry one more try on a different day.
Excited to try this high rated bakery / restaurant. Here is my experience: - About a 30 min wait on Saturday at 1pm, friendly hostess and staff - Outdoor seating only and on a relatively major street so it’s loud and somewhat obnoxious - The hostess said the rigatoni was the best item on the menu and the photos here on Google Maps looked amazing. I ordered it with high hopes but it came out SO SOUR in terms of the tomato sauce that I could barely get down two bites. I was shocked. I enjoy somewhat sour flavors but this was over the top. The homemade sausage was nice but very very oily - The burrata came with roasted tomatoes some of which were so hard that they couldn’t be eaten. The focaccia it was served with was black and burnt - The French omelette looked like it had sat on the counter for 10 minutes before we received it as the outside was plasticy and unappetizing. The salad it was served with was nice - Service was extremely slow and our waiter was changed mid visit without any explanation - Croissant ordered with the omelette came out cold. It was then heated after we asked - Restaurant was out of green tea My high hopes were shattered here unfortunately. Please be aware before you consider visiting.
This review is very different because sadly everything is great besides the food. The service was good and the ambiance was cute i really wanted to like this place but the food was simply not good at all. In fact, it was inedible the pasta was very overcooked and deceiving unfortunately. I will say we did not try their coffee or pastries this is only about the food, we were discouraged to even have dessert or coffee after our meal due to how terrible the food was. The bolognese pasta was not at all bolognese barely any meat and the sauce was pink, the worst part was how mushy the pasta was. We also ordered the carbonara pasta and the sauce was very creamy in a bad diluted way and it was flavorless. & sadly on top of everything it was very overpriced i ordered a side plate of fruit for my baby and it was $10 for a few slices of bruised fruit. Don't be deceived the food here is not only not authentic Italian food but it's not good either :/
Nona Mercato has built a good reputation, which is why this experience was disappointing. The order was incorrect and it felt rushed, as if attention to detail took a back seat toward the end of the shift. A business like this deserves staff who value accuracy and customer experience from start to finish.
This establishment gets 1/2 a star for atmosphere, And zero stars for everything else…… The WORST customer service in all of LB. I was looking forward to dining with my family on MLK day, but instead my family brunched without me . I was initially sitting with them at a four top table , that would make us 5,. We were waiting for our drinks and food when the manager Daisy approached me and asked for my chair in order to set up for a larger party. I informed her that our wait was over an hour and wasn’t able to wait any longer for a larger table that would comfortably seat us because my daughter joined us at the last minute. I was willing to squeeze in and join them. She said she needed the chair to set up for a larger table and proceeded to forcefully grab the chair and relocate it. I was humiliated , my family was uncomfortable with this unprofessional behavior and I had no other choice but to sit in the waiting area. The entire 40 minutes that my family brunched , that extra chair stood there , untouched and unused. The bill arrived and still the chair that was taken from me remained unused. My food was packed to go. I was never offered further accommodations. The bill was walked over to me by my son who then informed me that he had found a black Curley hair in his “Fileja” , and had reported it to the waitress Marissa. I was expecting some kind of partial compensation but none was offered or given, I was charged for his dish. I asked if the kitchen staff wore hair nets and she confirmed with a yes but that there was someone wearing a baseball hat w/o a hair-net. Marisa then informed me that the manager had looked at the small Curley hair and had insisted it was lint from the “ black micro fiber towels “ they use in the kitchen. BTW micro fiber towels are lint free. I would discourage anyone from patronizing Nonas. This was a humiliating and horrible experience. I will not be returning to Nonas.
