I just had an incredible meal at A Food Affair in LA with a friend, and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. We dove into some classic French dishes: Mom’s Beef Bourguignon, French Onion Soup, and Bouillabaisse de Marseille. Each dish was a masterpiece - the Beef Bourguignon was rich and flavorful, the Onion Soup had the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and the Bouillabaisse was a delightful medley of seafood goodness. What made the meal even more special was the chef coming out to greet us. It added a personal touch that you just don’t find everywhere. He was incredibly warm and friendly, making us feel right at home. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a distinct family-run vibe that made the whole experience feel more intimate. It’s not just a meal at A Food Affair; it’s like being welcomed into a culinary family. If you’re looking for an authentic French dining experience with a personal touch in LA, A Food Affair is the place to go. Can’t wait to return and try more of their delicious offerings.
I came to a food affair a few evenings ago and I have to say, even as I write this for you great reader, this was the type of place that I feel I shouldn’t have read the spoilers for. I came prepared for the interior to be a bustling brasserie and can say that’s not really what you get. I walked in the heavy doors (my arms are spaghetti) and was warmly greeted by the hostess. You enter to a beautiful bar and walk into the cozy intimate dining area which is oddly adorned with numerous neon signs. The meal started, and ended, deliciously. We started with the mushroom toarte which was a mushroom lovers creamy, buttery, flaky dream. Followed was the bone marrow served with a small arugula and radish to make you feel a little less bad about potentially giving yourself a heart attack. I will say the one that stood out of our starters was the escargot- so frequently you order escargot at a French restaurant and you know exactly what you’re going to get. Usually you’re greeted by those small white dishes with pockets full of small shells doused in garlic and butter served with bread to sop up the goodness but this was an incredibly unique serving style. We were surprised to see the pieces of snail out in the open drowning in a somewhat rich green sauce over what I would consider as a French loaded potato skin. The potato was crisp and the sauce a bit pungent with the taste of snail but if that’s your jam- I recommend trying this dish. For our entrees we ordered the prime ribeye and the lamb shank tagine. I was a little skeptical when we weren’t asked how we would like the steak cooked but when it came out, it was a perfect rare/medium rare and I sort of respected that they didn’t give you the choice to mess that up (although I’m sure if you requested more they would let you...but then maybe you shouldn’t be ordering the steak). As for the tagine- talk about a show stopper. The meat was succulent and falling off the bone and the vegetables served with it weren’t soggy or falling apart but perfectly softened. The steak was great but many bites were stolen from my tagine. As for the dessert- if you read or didn’t like anything else in this review I beg of you, at least take this advice: DO NOT SLEEP ON THE DESSERT. If I had to choose between my starters and desserts I would say go with the sweet stuff. We ended our meal with the apple tart and the Meyer lemon pie. Not only was the presentation much more upscale but the flavors were an impecable end to the meal. The apple tart was buttery and sweet served with the ice cream. But the lemon pie. THE LEMON PIE. Not going to lie it tasted more like an orange creamsicle to me but everything from the pistachio to the dried fruit and the crumbly crust is like taking your mouth on my toads wild ride...except you’re not going to hell. So I guess it’s nothing like that. You get the point. We ended our meal with some nice cappuccinos (they have decaf if you’re into that sort of thing) and the chef actually came out and personally thanked us for dining there and supporting the restaurant. As simple a gesture as it is I think this goes a long way to show it’s a locally owned spot that really does care about their clientele and trying to make it through these weird times. TLDR, go try it it’s worth the high blood pressure.
Came here for the first time with my parents for dinner yesterday. They are older, so I picked the spot for its quieter atmosphere, and it turned out great. We thought the food was excellent, especially the desserts. The highlights for me were the Branzino (on special), the chocolate mouse, and the pomme frites. The steak and crab cake were also quite nice. Will definitely come back. Note this place is more $$$$ than $$$.
An absolutely fantastic dinner in a really casual and cozy French bistro in the Pico-Robertson area. Parking was very easy in the neighborhood right next to the restaurant, we only had to walk a half of a block. Service was extremely prompt and polite; were able to sit right after we arrived and all of our food items came out quickly. We were checked on many times during the meal as well. We started off with the Bone Marrow and it was one of the better ones that I’ve had in a long time. The portion was very large and the sourdough with it was plenty. Next came the seasonal Beet Salad and it to it was absolutely delicious. The capers with it were probably my favorite part. A true taste of summer. Finally for our entrée we shared Mom’s Beef Bourguignon and it was absolutely perfect. The Pappardelle was al dente and seasoned well, and the beef was also delicious. I do wish there was more beef, but still the flavors were great and it was enough to share for a table of two. We also ordered the homemade iced tea, which was a bit expensive at $8.50 per order, but it is flavored with hibiscuses and they bring out an extra bottle of it that will have at least two refills in it so I felt it was a fair trade because it really was delicious. Overall a great French bistro that would be suitable for any casual occasion. I will definitely be back in the future.
The atmosphere is romantic yet casual..the wait staff is excellent...very attentive without being intrusive..the food was perfect, we started with the escargot which were cooked well and I got the beef and my husband the lamb and thier house made drinks are very tasty. We got the meter lemon pie for dessert and it was perfect..chef came out when we were done with out entree and was very polite and attentive as well...we mentioned it was our anniversary and the he surprised us and sent out a plate of treats. Can't wait to go back!
An amazing place. The food is outstanding, and the owners are super sweet and welcoming. The vibe is super chill and inviting. I can't recommend this place enough. Appetizers, main dishes, drinks, and desserts are extraordinary. I bought an entire Meyer Lemon pie for Thanksgiving so we could share my favorite dessert with our family.
Talk about being hidden in plain sight, this restaurant is very unassuming but the food, service and ambiance certainly did not disappoint! The couple that owns and runs the restaurant and everyone who works there was so friendly and very welcoming as well. We had the beet salad, artisan salad, lamb shank tajine, salmon with calamari, bouillabaisse and jidori chicken breast. Each dish was just as excellent as the others with delicious flavors! The drinks were also excellent although they don’t have a full bar, just fyi for those who may not drink beer and wine but the lemonade makes up for the lack of hard alcohol. The French chocolate mousse was the cherry on top to end a perfect meal and kick off our trip to LA. We’ll definitely come back next time we are in the area. 😋

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a great time! You really do get the cozy, family vibe that they're going for, and you taste the love in the food and feel it in the atmosphere. We ordered almost everything on the menu, it felt like and most everything was a hit. The duck rillettes, the lamb shank, and the beef bourguignon were our favorites. The escargot on a potato was probably our least. Special shoutout to the iced tea and passion fruit juice cocktail, which they let us take home when we didn't finish. Definitely recommend trying everything and seeing what you love!
Can I say perfect a million times? I tried the Chef's special and I was blown away at how beautiful the fish tasted. Not only that, the waiters also spoke French. I feel like I was in France yet all I had to do was visit a local restaurant. Truffle Fries were the best. Highly recommend.
Everything I’ve tried is amazing! Always fresh and every ingredient on your plate matches. The service is excellent. Owners are amazing and always welcoming. The chef always comes out to make sure you enjoyed your meal! My favorite also is the server always knows what one to pair with your food and suggest great options. This place is a gemstone find. As soon as you walk in you feel warm and invited. Greeted but a beautiful smile, and a very home style cooking smell. The service was perfect! Kind, knowledgeable, and all around home cooking vibes. Even if you aren't French. Food was absolutely delicious. When the chef comes out to greet you at the end. You can see he is authentic, and genuine. This restaurant gets 10 stars. I urge you to go rate it yourself. Merci 🙏🏻
We've eaten here a couple of times and it is always fantastic! The entire staff is very welcoming and attentive. Chef Christian comes out after your meal and thanks you for coming and wants to know if you enjoyed your meal and visit. The environment is very comfortable and homey yet sophisticated and classy. The food is absolutely delicious and they can excellently recommend and type of wine to match your tastes and meal. Reservations are highly recommended, as the place is small. Prices are very reasonable, given the food quality and experience, but they can reach upwards of $250 for two people with drinks, appetizer and dessert but this place is worth it.
The prime ribeye with truffle fries was a 10 out of 10. It’s a quiet place I almost wanna kept it a secret because of how good it is. Chef came out and said hello to everyone in the restaurant at the end …a very nice touch

What a gem. I came here based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews across many platforms (Google, Yelp, and OpenTable)... And wow, they were spot on. The food was fantastic - but the service... unparalleled. It really is a family run place - and it shows. Very welcoming, knowledgeable... The chef even made the rounds toward the end of the night. My only complaint? The ambiance could be a tad darker... like a tad darker.
Such a cute and cozy place. The portions/price/quality ratio is pretty spot on. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was really great. Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and the chef came out to greet us. We got a couple of the more expensive entrees, two starters, and wine and the total was around ~$300 including tip. We loved everything, but here was our order: Beet and avocado salad Bone Marrow Duck Confit Crispy Sea Bass special They also suggested two wines which were absolutely delicious and spot on to match our meal. The atmosphere is so cozy, reminds me of little spots I would find tucked into corners of NYC. Definitely a mom and pop establishment and they clearly take their customer service seriously. I loved our entire experience. 😍🫶🏻
It's not hard to tell when a family takes pride in what they do. This quaint family french restaurant provides a great atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food! Super friendly and happy to share their story. We were also greeted by the chef who came out to shake hands and meet us. Nice touch. Will gladly make the hour and a half drive to visit again soon. My friends and I had such a great experience! The service was incredibly genuine, everyone was so kind and welcoming. The food was amazing with perfect portions, and every dish tasted just right. I also loved the cozy decor, it made the whole place feel extra comforting, especially on a rainy day. Highly recommend!
A cozy little bistro with tasty classic dishes. We tried the endive salad, roast duck and bouf bourgignon. All were delicious. The staff and owner were very friendly and took care of us like family.

The service was 5 stars and the chef came to our table at the end of the meal. The staff was so authentic and professional. This might be my favorite resturant in California.

There are three sections with the front one upon entrance (be mindful of the classic heavy doors with brass handles), the main section where all business and order activity takes place, and a back patio which I did not check it out as it was very windy and chilly outside. I’m particularly sensitive with noise and found that the front section was in earshot of passing traffic, however, upon being inside in the main entrance transported into warm and welcoming ambiance of black and white photos hung on the wall, unusual artifacts similar to the clock pictured, and distinct furnishings that were also used for utensils and needed items. I was greeted promptly even though busy on a Saturday night and dining solo which has its challenges was met with a few options for a welcoming stay in which I chose a private like table near the hall leading towards the kitchen. Servers were prompt with taking order along with a quick turnaround in bringing to the table. Also, upon completion of meal removing finished plates and silverware. Table touches with a smile and friendly conversation regarding food and guest experience were delightful. I ordered the French Onion Soup, Fresh Market Veggie Casserole, a glass of Malbec, and French Chocolate Mousse for dessert. All were succulent and amazingly delicious!!! I savored every morsel and spoonful embracing the moments of exceptional taste and quality. Truly magnificent seasonings, texture, and portions that were perfectly sized. The atmosphere was filled with great energy. A table celebrating a birthday, couples enjoying themselves, group tables laughing and conversing. Good vibes!!! This is a top notch professional restaurant that knows how to take care of business with wonderful hospitality and welcoming presence. Regarding budget, my bill came to $79 including tax before tipping so prepare for a $100 per person if ordering a full meal from soup, entree, glass of wine, and dessert. Every penny well worth it!

Very friendly host and an excellent place to catch up with friends - not too loud. No mushroom lover can resist the mushroom tourte, profuse with the essence of mushrooms crested in touches of truffle oil. The day’s special was duck foie gras (urged by my friend to order), pretty fresh, but lacked the magic of driving one to crave for it. The salad was nicely done, a good respite from the otherwise very hearty French cuisine. Our fav of the night was the beef bourguignon - rich, deep, and complex flavor from beef and a hint of wine (made me want to try making it one more time at home). The lemon pie was definitely the signature dessert - dreamy mascarpone cream on top of very lemony crust.
Nice little quiet bistro type restaurant. Staff is great, excellent service and attentive. I like the ambiance and lighting of the place. The food is also amazing and delicious. It brings me back to France. Definitely worth a taste if you’re missing french food.

Nice little quiet bistro type restaurant. Staff is great, excellent service and attentive. I like the ambiance and lighting of the place. The food is also amazing and delicious. It brings me back to France. Definitely worth a taste if you’re missing french food.
Such a cute and cozy place. The portions/price/quality ratio is pretty spot on. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was really great. Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and the chef came out to greet us. We got a couple of the more expensive entrees, two starters, and wine and the total was around ~$300 including tip. We loved everything, but here was our order: Beet and avocado salad Bone Marrow Duck Confit Crispy Sea Bass special They also suggested two wines which were absolutely delicious and spot on to match our meal. The atmosphere is so cozy, reminds me of little spots I would find tucked into corners of NYC. Definitely a mom and pop establishment and they clearly take their customer service seriously. I loved our entire experience. 😍🫶🏻
It's not hard to tell when a family takes pride in what they do. This quaint family french restaurant provides a great atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food! Super friendly and happy to share their story. We were also greeted by the chef who came out to shake hands and meet us. Nice touch. Will gladly make the hour and a half drive to visit again soon. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!
My friends and I had such a great experience! The service was incredibly genuine, everyone was so kind and welcoming. The food was amazing with perfect portions, and every dish tasted just right. I also loved the cozy decor, it made the whole place feel extra comforting, especially on a rainy day. Highly recommend!
A cozy little bistro with tasty classic dishes. We tried the endive salad, roast duck and bouf bourgignon. All were delicious. The staff and owner were very friendly and took care of us like family.

What a nice restaurant! We had a great dinner with every dish delicious, from bread to main. We absolutely loved the food, drinks, ambience and service. The owners/chef were so friendly and kind. Definitely recommended!
What a gem. I came here based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews across many platforms (Google, Yelp, and OpenTable)... And wow, they were spot on. The food was fantastic - but the service... unparalleled. It really is a family run place - and it shows. Very welcoming, knowledgeable... The chef even made the rounds toward the end of the night. My only complaint? The ambiance could be a tad darker... like a tad darker.
The food was French influenced. I came for restaurant week LA DINEIN . I was excited to have French food again. The bone marrow was really good over toasts. The escargots were good but I barely tasted the escargots it was masked in the sauce and potatoes. I didn’t like the lemon pie, it was overwhelming. I could barely tasted the wonderful orange zest and pistachio crust.
Bonjour!! Super delicious fine dining French-American cuisine served in a small humble restaurants. There is a sense of rustic and whimsy that makes this place charming. Perfect for an intimate date, but can work for bigger groups too in their backroom area. We were lucky to splurge on their Dine LA deals (unfortunately just ended), but they have the same dishes on the regular menu. For appetizers, we got the Mushroom Tourte, Escargot, and Roasted Bone Marrow. All of them were super decadent and succulents. My favorite was probably the Mushroom Tourte because it was very well done with the truffle oil wafting through, but the Escargot and Bone Marrow were really good too. For entrées, we got the Duck Leg Confit, Australian Lamb Shank Tagine, Beef Bourignon, and Scottish Salmon. My favorite was the Duck Leg Confit. The flavors were spectacular and it was juicy and crispy on the outside. A real winner! The Lamb Tagine is definitely the most filling option with a huge portion of lamb. The Beer Bourignon was really solid too and had that comfort factor. It also had a noodle and carrot side dish too that was tasty. Lastly, the Scottish Salmon was well cooked, but felt as though it needed some brightness or sweetness to make it more interesting. It was good, but I felt like it could of used a bit of a kick. For dessert, we got the Creme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse, and Meyer Lemon Pie. While all were tasty, the Meyer Lemon Pie was my stand out. The tartness amidst the marscapone was heavenly. The bits of dried fruits on top was playful and added some great texture. Soooo good! Overall, great place to get some fancy French food with great presentation and friendly service. Would definitely visit again!
I have seen the place a few times, now finally got a chance to try it for wine and some small bites. The owners and servers are all French. They will know their stuff well. The menu is quite authentically French. We had the garlic fries . That was ok but nothing too special, though I did like that there are full cloves of fryer garlic in it. The lobster pie was decent. Though I wish the lobster flavor came out more. The basque cheesecake was a delight! It was sweet - just right. Not overly sweet. That is the best compliment an Asian person can give. The wine selection was quite good as well.

Gave A Food Affair a try because of all the good reviews here and on other platforms (yelp, opentable). I will not return and do not recommend this place to anyone. I was very disappointed with their food and the overall experience (4/10). Food was very mediocre. I had better french onion soup elsewhere. The escargots here served with no shells. It was really just like some frozen tasteless escargot pieces with some creamy garlic sauce pour over. The mom’s beef bourguignon was saltier than I expected. I don’t understand how they get these raving reviews.
