Katsuya LA Live is praised for its delicious sushi, excellent service (especially from Luis and Misa), and relaxed atmosphere. Many recommend the Crispy Brussel Sprouts and lava cake. Some find it overpriced or inconsistent, especially the tasting menu.

We came here last night for my bestie’s bday and it was AMAAAAZING! The food was super fast and soooo good! We started at the bar where there was a late night happy hour, and the bartender was the sweetest! Then we had Sarah as our server and she made incredible recommendations for food and drinks, and was very generous, funny, and knowledgeable! Definitely coming back soon!
such a great experience.our waiter Misa was super friendly and really made the night feel easy and fun. The vibe here is perfect, whether you’re going on a date or just hanging out with friends. We ordered Sprouts Katsuya roll with the sauce (Misa’s sauce) , sashimi plate and we liked the kioto souer drink.
This is a great place for a date. The atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxing. Our server Luis was very attentive to us and gave us great recommendations to take us out of our usual order.
The food was great but what made my experience better was the server/bartender Luis he was friendly, attentive, and skilled at what he does. He made sure everything was running smoothly and made the whole experience more enjoyable.
Luis T was amazing! He was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything came out perfectly. His recommendations were on point and he made the whole experience feel elevated. We’ll definitely be back because of him!
Atmosphere was very relaxed and presentation was excellent. Our service Luis did an amazing job with everything. All questions answered and recommendations give by Luis were on par with the experience we were hoping for.
I was in the area for an event and came across Katsuya LA. Needless to say, I had a great time and enjoyed good food and drinks. I was hoping to order a watermelon Mojito, but come to find out, that it’s no longer offered. Our server, Luis, was very helpful and accommodating. He recommended the yuzu Paloma and Katsuya Fresh and they were incredible! Some of the best drinks I’ve had. The food was also great - we enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. Definitely worth the 5 stars!
Dinner at Katsuya never disappoints. A few friends and I enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks. We tried items recommended by our amazing and very personable server, Luis. We had the corn crunch and double tuna roll, gyozas, yellow tail jalapeño and a few katsuya fresh and yuzu Paloma’s. We enjoyed our experience and are excited to come back soon!
This is a good spot for a date night, excellent food, good service, and a relaxing environment. Our server Luis was very attentive and friendly, made it feel like you were there to hang out with him. His recommendations were very spot on. It took us out of our usual and made us try new things.
Last night we found this place after leaving the hospital my wife’s dad has stage 4 cancer and we got the call to rush over. The staff was amazing and brought joy to a day we had none I don’t think their is a big enough word besides thank you for what your staff did And we are forever greatfull. I’ll put the servers name when I get home. Also get the spicy meso dip 😂
1st time here. Tried a bunch of items. Chicken Katsu Bite. Edamame. Baked Crab Hand Rolls. Rock Shrimp Roll. Miso Soup. All of it was delicious. Our server Misa was great. He even made us his special “Misa Sauce” which was great for adding some spice to our meal. Would definitely come back again.
We went straight for the tasting menu and was very satisfied! Did not opt for the wine pairing as were lightweights but do enjoy a couple of reds and whites with it. Friendly staff, good relaxing atmosphere and walking distance from the JW Marriott and pretty much any event place in the area of LA LIVE! We were very satisfied with the quality of the food and the friendly service. Certainly coming back to this place when I’m back in LA!
We had the tasting menu. Each of the individual dish tastes good but in a combination of a menu it was not in a smooth flow e.g. from light to heavy back to dessert .. the beef rib stew was so salty that could not be a stand-alone dish without any side dish. Maybe next time we will try to mix our own menu.
I was worried about Friday LA traffic and finding parking, so I decided to take an Uber to Katsuya LA Live. The restaurant was much bigger than I expected! Even though it was crowded, the service was efficient, and the food came out quickly. If you're ordering something fried, you might have to wait a bit longer, but the sushi and sashimi were served right away. It was impressive to see 6-7 chefs working at the same time. The quality of the sashimi was incredibly fresh and sweet, and the scallop seasoning was so good that I wanted to order another plate. While the fried dishes took a little longer, they were definitely worth the wait. The cocktails were also great! I would definitely consider coming back if I have the chance.
Katsuya is a fantastic fine dinning sushi restaurant. There are several in Los Angeles, this one is our favorite. It is usually not too crowded, but they do take reservations if you want. I would do that for a weekend night. It is large and spotless. It is also beautiful. The service is uncompared and they know the menu so well, they can give you ideas and help you. There is a sushi bar if you want to sit there and the chefs are wonderful. The whole atmosphere is welcoming and calm. You will be greeted the moment you get there. The servers check on you and you can order all at once or just keep ordering. There is not a bad dish there. We have been enough to know the menu well. They are kid friendly, my grandson loves this place. Be careful letting them order, you will be broke when they are done. They have the best sushi, all fresh and wonderful and they will make it any way you want. They also have the best lobster tempura in town. The side dishes are all great and we love all the rice dishes. Try their BBQ pork over rice. It is so great. You will love this place.
Luis, our server, was amazing! If I was able to request a server I would always ask for him! The food is just ok. And just ok is not ok when your bill is $250 for 2 people.
After the Tomorrow x Together concert, we were hungry and stopped by Katsuya for dinner, convenient since it was just a few steps away from Peacock Theater. I was lost on what to order until I found out my friend's menu had an insert that my menu didn't have. It was for A Taste of Okinawa, Summer Omakase for $55. It comes with three courses plus dessert. Sounded like a good deal overall for a variety of eats, so our table all ended up ordering this! The menu ran like this: * first course: umibudo salmon sashimi * second course: Japanese slaw and crispy rice with spicy tuna * third course: chilled soki soba with your choice of roasted bbq short ribs or miso marinated black cod * dessert: brown sugar sata andagi (type of Japanese donut) Everything was so good!! The salmon sashimi was fresh. The slaw reminded me of a Chinese chicken salad but without the chicken. The cod was well flavored and so tender. When ordering, we honestly wondered if the omakase would be enough food. It was! The noodles and fish were huge portions!!! By the time we got to dessert, we were happy it was a manageable serving. Overall, we got what we paid for and more. The only unexpected part was the third course, as the menu said soba but we were given udon noodles. Service was good and when our second course was delayed, our server was apologetic and tried to do all she can given the situation. One thing to note on the bill, there's an automatic taxable 5% service charge that's not mentioned anywhere on the menu. At least it's removeable. We confirmed it doesn't go to the servers, but rather management. We already had all day parking because we were here for a concert, so we didn't have to worry about how much it'll cost to park around LA Live.
The food was tasty with modifications and overpriced. I'm from the Midwest and not sure of typical LA prices, but for what was received it seemed to be overpriced. I had, what I would consider, a basic sushi roll and a premium roll for the same price (approximately $22/each). Regular edamame was $9. It was right after work and super busy and loud. The place was buzzing! Not somewhere I would go to relax. The service was on point. They were very attentive.
I want to start by saying that the staff there were all very professional and our waiter was extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and their sushi and sashimi were super fresh, which is a major factor for good quality seafood. There is no complaint about it. However, even for a big city like LA, the price for what you get is still crazy. $55 for Sushi Moriawase and the same price for Sashimi Moriawase? Please see my pictures and you be the judge. What’s even more outrageous was the fried rice with Wagyu Beef and it was $56! Yes, on the menu it clearly indicated that with Wagyu Beef +34. That means the fried rice itself is $22. Again, please see my picture and you’d understand my puzzlement. I totally agree that the food is fresh and outstanding. But for this price? No, we won’t be back.
Ordered 4 dishes worth $120 and I couldve gotten better food somewhere else. Really not worth what we’ve paid for. That’s the most money we’ve spent on food on a restaurant that didn’t even tasted nearly as good as other (cheaper) restaurants. Didn’t even feel full after that. Very disappointing. On top of that, there is a 5% health fee for employees (you can ask for it to be removed btw) but charging so much for food and charging customers on top of that is absurd. Salmon Caviar could have been cut a little thicker. Only had 6 tiny pieces. Not even half an inch slice total for two pieces. Cod bites were good, but overpriced. Crab hand roll, more like rice with imitation crab. Salmon Lemon, was okay. MID. So disappointing, nice area but food definitely needed improvement.
