Great Indonesian restaurant, authentic food. Was looking for a change of pace and this place did not disappoint. The atmosphere is nice and its family friendly.
It is a legit authentic Chinese Indonesian restaurant. Some dish are really close to what you would get in Jakarta. I recommend the Bakwan Jagung (Corn Fritters, Perkedel, Mie Ayam (Dry Chicken Noodle with soup on the side), the Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) is really good. Sate Babi (Pork Satay) is legit. The green chili sauce is hot! Really good. We also tried the Sate Ayam (Chicken Satay), Mie Tektek, Mie Goreng, and Soto Mie. (On the last three kind of noodles, taste wise is good, but I would suggest the owner to replace the type of noodle that they use. The texture is not right.
combo #3 is like a tasting platter with a little of everything: satay skewers, soup, some rice on the side. the char on the skewers adds a nice depth to the flavor profile. highly recommend upgrading the soup to the coconut beef one (Soto Bewati)! adding a little green chili sauce balances the creamy soup well.
Very tasty! The combos are perfect. The coconut curry beef soup type thing is amazing.
[Review from an Indonesian] There is a reason why you don’t find many Indonesian restaurants in the States. Mr. Sate has unlocked the taste and (more importantly) the smell that come from hours of preparation, to release rich essential oil from tropical spices that will bring you to an authentic culinary journey 1. Nasi Bungkus: it’s the BOMB. The smell of banana leaf, followed by turmeric and galangal will hit you softly, even before your eyes can digest the festive you are about to savor. My favorite part of the dish is the fried chicken, it’s juicy, flavorful and crispy. It comes with a lot of side dish (beef rendang, egg balado, veggie curry, sambal and chips). I wish I would have asked for extra curry, I prefer the dish to be more saucy then dry. Tho it might seem a lot, but none of the components overpowers the overall dish. It's nicely balanced, but is not shy to express the bold taste we have back home. 2. Corn fritter: it surprises me for 2 reasons. Firstly, there is a very subtle hint of herbs hidden in between the crunchiness and sweetness of the corn. I think it’s turmeric, it is not very common (at least in where I am from) but it matches the taste so well - again the smell induces your appetite before you eat (I am salivating as I type this review). Secondly, the secret black sauce. I will not reveal what it is, I let you fantasize. It is original Indonesian style of … sauce. For a new olfactory experience in enjoying a food, this place could be priced much higher!
My family and I loved to travel and most of the time we would like to go out eat. We love to eat. Our first time coming this restaurant .. and I love the food. Even though the place is small only 5 tables due to pandemic but the food is yummy and delicious. My favorite soup is soto betawi, best and bubur ayam is good. I order for my children sate combo $15 and they got rice two satay, one fried potato(perkedel)and an option of soto mie or soto ayam .. but you can ask if they can substitute with soto betawi .. overall I love their food. If you guys love Indonesian food .. this restaurant Recommend
We loved this place! My husband has spent a lot of time in Indonesia and testified to its authenticity. We got Soto Ayam, chicken satay gado gado, and nasi goreng. We loved it. The Soto Ayam was particularly good and the peanut sauce on the gado gado and chicken satay was delicious. We will be back soon!
The Nasi Bungkus was very flavorful, good meat and the boss was friendly. Great prices too. Easily available street parking since we got there at 11:30 am.
Pleasantly surprised by this place. My first time in the woman working the counter went through THE ENTIRE menu with me and explained what everything was. I can't spell or pronounce what I got but it was some sort of fried chicken, stewed beef, hard boiled egg, and veggies wrapped in a banana leaf. Full transparency: the chicken, and beef, and egg were all over cooked but the flavor was so freaking good I ate the whole plate. I will be back for sure!
Indonesian food is very underrated. When I went to Bali last year, I got a chance to sample the different flavors and Mr. Sate recreates them very well! I ordered the mie goreng with two chicken sate and perkedel. The noodles were great and not overly salty and the sate had the classic peanut sauce that I loved while in Indonesia. Highly recommend, will try other dishes as well!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND COME SUPPORT 10/10 nasi bungkus 10/10 Chicken sate (even without sauce) 10/10 Rib sate (even without sauce) 7/10 Coconut milk with jelly (it'll hit the spot but I like super sweet coconut milk fresh from coconut)
So delicious and authentic! My husband was freaking out over their chili sauce (he's from SE Asia). We loved the mie goreng. Our friends got combo 1 and really enjoyed. Our friend whose grandmother is Indonesian said that it tasted just like something her grandma would make! Our other friend got the porridge and loved it-- comes with lots of stuff in addition to the rice porridge. Staff was super friendly. The ambiance was nice, loved the decor. We'll definitely be back again!!
Mr. Sate absolutely deserves 5 stars! The nasi kuning was so delicious and flavorful, and the portion size for everything was just right—not overly big and not too small. The fried noodles were tasty but a bit on the salty side for me personally, though still very satisfying overall. The nasi goreng was also delish and instantly brought back memories of home, which made the meal feel extra special. This spot is a must if you’re craving comforting, authentic-tasting Indonesian food.
The best Indonesian food I ever eaten. The taste and the flavors are very Indonesian. I’ll be back here. Highly recommended
Visiting from Seattle and so happy I found this place. Delicious mie goreng and sate, reminiscent of my mom’s cooking. Wish Seattle had an Indonesian restaurant like this
Had a taste of home (Singapore) at this restaurant. Ordered the combos: mee goreng, Soto betawi, that comes with sate (satay) and Perkedel! Everything tastes like how I have it in Singapore. The only difference is the chilli- could not get the sambal that I usually have in Singapore but that's fine. The chendol 👍🏻. Overall I was very happy to visit during this trip to LA! Authentic and great service.
Delicious authentic Indonesian food. Very flavorful aromatic! Would come back again if I didn’t live 30 miles away!
Great Indonesian cafe. We ordered the Nasi Bungkus & Nasi Kuning, everything was delicious & burst with flavors, loved it! The Ice Cendol had jackfruit and it was yummy. Happy I finally tried Mr Sate. There is parking at the rear, entrance to parking structure is through the alley.
for the second time I eat here. makes me want to try everything. the taste is really like home. the longing is cured. the best Indonesian cuisine in this city. Soto betawi enak bangeeeeet 😍
Everything we ordered was delicious and authentic. We came from the Bay Area and we were looking for good Indonesian food in LA and we really liked this place. Highly recommended
Perfect place to just go have a very good Indonesian food and great service. Parking is in the garage above accessible from the alley

Their Nasi Bungkus totally hit the spot. You need more Southeast Asian food in your stomach!
Highly recommended, I had combo #3 for $23, included large flavorful soup with rich coconut milk, 4 different sate skewers (shrimp, beef, pork, chicken) with rice and potato cake. Bomba!
Mr. Sate is seriously underrated — a true hidden gem! I’ve ordered takeout twice now, and both times it’s been incredible. The dishes are genuinely spicy (in the best way), and the sambal? Absolute perfection. The Nasi Bungkus is my go-to favorite, and everything on the menu is not only packed with flavor but also super affordable. Highly recommend!
Went early on a Friday. I hadn't had Indonesian in over a decade. This place is really good, reminds me of my friend's home cooking. Service really good, food was terrific. Highlights are the sates, soto betawi was unreal good, enjoyed the nasi as well. Will definitely be back!
It was an amazing experience, good food, good atmosphere, and good service. The flavors are really on-point while keeping the original taste. It felt like I was back in Jakarta for a moment. If you are looking for an authentic Indonesian food experience in LA, we wholeheartedly recommend this place.
This place was incredible from start to finish. The flavors were rich, authentic, and so thoughtfully prepared. Everything we ordered was delicious, and they offered a great variety of traditional Indonesian options. The service was friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. This restaurant is a must try!
The taste is very authentic, one of the best Indonesian food that we ever try in the US. We had the pempek, noodle combo, and Soto Betawi combo, all of which taste similar to what we had in Indonesia. My kids really enjoy the pempek as they grew up eating it!

Overall I liked this as a lunch spot. I haven’t eaten much Indonesian food in general so I don’t have a lot to compare it off but the dish I did get was delicious. Server was friendly & helpful, he actually recommended the dish to me. I’d look to return back to try more of the options on the menu.
First visit on a weeknight before 8p. Not crowded so service wasn't slow. I started with some a la carte items such as the Gado Gado salad (cooked vegetables with peanut sauce and shrimp crackers) and the corn fritters. Thumbs up on the corn fritters -- prepared very well and delicious. Not a fan of the Gado Gado because they combine cooked kale with cabbage, string beans and other veggies. I tried Combo #2, which came with a huge bowl of either Chicken clear noodle soup or beef egg noodle soup (I chose the chicken); 3 skewers (2 chicken and for my 3rd I chose the beef potato), a small mound of rice. They were out of the perkedel meat patty so they asked me when I placed the order if they could give me another corn fritter as a substitute (I can't turn down fried corn :-)) Chicken sate skewers were very tender. Not too salty, but they provided a small dish of Indonesian soy in case I wanted to make it more savory. Beef and potato skewer was good too with a fresh sambal like red sauce. Menu is not too large, but the have daily specials. I'm looking forward to coming back on Saturday when they offer the Nasi Kuning rice plate served on a banana leaf. Cash or Credit card. Parking lot with entrance on Palms -- they're 3 parking spots set aside for Mr. Sate customers.
Picked up a quick to-go order of the Kasi Kuning which had a little bit of everything. Some yellow coconut rice, a bit of stir fried noodles, fried hard boiled egg, turmeric chicken and other little goodies. Full of flavor and packed very nicely! Made for a good lunch since it was not too heavy and overall good portion. Service was friendly and was quick. The interior is clean with a few tables inside and outside with the weather being lovely lately. Definitely want to try this place out in person another time!
Tasty Indonesian food. Got Grubhub pickup for dinner on a Tuesday, and it was ready on time. The Soto mie was tasty but nothing special, but the nasi bunkus was amazing! We got it because another review was raving about it, and we were not disappointed. Just sticking your nose in it to smell the banana leaf and the other flavors was heavenly. I'd go back for that dish alone.
The food was good. I was expecting more peanut sauce and sweet soy sauce drizzled on the sate but it wasn't. The shrimp sate was very confusing to me. The soto betawi was not bad, but not great either. The nasi bungkus also was ok. Soda gembira was great! All in all, food was ok. Didn't quite hit the spot for Indonesian food but it's not bad. Price wise is cheaper than the other one.
Note: We are very familiar with Indonesian food. Prices were less expensive than Simpang Asia the other Indonesian restaurant nearby- but smaller portions. Also, this was more like Indonesian comfort food- not as gourmet as the other restaurant but still tasty. We are very happy with the other Indonesian restaurant and tried this out of curiosity. Ultimately if this was the only option it would be a great one but probably will just return to the other restaurant in the future.
This unpretentious Indonesian café is a great example of the ”hidden gem,” with dishes based on centuries of regional tradition rather than fads. Fortunately one of us had spent time in the Indonesia area and guided us to some favorites. We had five varied dishes: Chicken Satay with peanut sauce, described as “a classic Indonesian street foodie's dream.” ($8 for 4 pieces). Soto Ayam is a Spicy and Sour shredded red Chicken Soup). ($12). The Nasi Goreng ($11) is a super-flavored chicken stir fried rice dish. The Rendang Bowl is $11, (plus extra sauce for $4). Empek-Empek is a fishcake delicacy with sweet and sour sauce. ($11) Their Thai tea ($4) was one of the few beverage choices. No alcohol or coffee.

First visit and here's what i ordered: - Gado Gado, it was ok but the portion was small and very less peanut sauce. - Almost all kind of satay skewers and honestly they're just xoxo and not something i would be craving for. The meat on skewers were tiny and very less sauce as well. - Soto Ayam, it was ok but not that much tasty. I was kinda disappointed since there were not many choices on the menu and the concept is tapas which does not fit for this restaurant. I probably expected too much since i saw those images on their Instagram look so delish. I understand this is a new restaurant but they need to improve the menu quickly in order to compete with other asian restaurants in that area especially Simpang Asia. I used to live in Indonesia for years and years so i know how great Indonesian food is. I really want this restaurant to survive and grow bigger so manager or whoever manage this restaurant please do something with the menu....make the portion bigger (raise the price a little bit but still worth it), adding satay combo (comes with rice cake, garnish and please bigger meat), adding rice combo for daily order, add more Indonesian food. Btw..i think you should print out your daily special menu and attach it with regular menu cos if i didn't see your whiteboard i wouldn't know you had special menu. Trust me this restaurant has a lot of potential to grow bigger. I will update my review later after second visit.

First time came here and the reviews look good, but....🥲 We order some of the foods like gado-gado, mie goreng combo, soto betawi combo,etc.. I didn't think it is authentic of Indonesian foods, its more like American. The sauces does not bold enough, the spices doesn't rich and i got pretty salty of mie goreng. They've been changed my mie goreng for less sodium however it still salty, i've could taste of soy sauces only in the mie goreng. For American people i think it taste good, however as a East Asian naah.. 🥹 My husband end up finished all the food cuz he dont wanna waste it! Its beyond of my expectations and i would not comeback.
