We were seated quickly and when we were ready to order the server was table side quickly. Our food was prepared well and was very flavorful. The sashimi serving size was bigger than other sushi places I've frequented. I will definitely be back when I visit next time and my mom found a new place to eat in her own town.
Stopped by for lunch. Food and Service were great.
My goats. So good
Just went to Kamakura again. The sashimis are just out of this world, you get fabulous 1/2 inch thick great quality sashimi. One of the best places for sashimi in South Bay. Backed mussels appetizer is great too. Fast service, always checking on you. While parking on the street is difficult in Los Gatos, there is a convenient parking in the back parallel to the Santa Cruz Ave. This place is a sure bet for me every time.
Best sushi we’ve had in years. Fresh, generous slices, delicious, beautiful presentation. And rolls made with real crab. (No overbearing sauces.) These lovely people deserve to feel proud of this quiet restaurant. Friendly comfortable casual outdoor seating. We were there on a weekday. The waiter brought a bowl of water for the nice dog sitting at the next table. Thank you!
Got a couple rolls for takeout and I was super impressed with how big the pieces of fish were! I got a rainbow roll and the slices of sushi on top were thiiiccccc!
Lots of choice in menu. Friendly staff, My salmon teriyaki is very yummy.
This is the best place for sushi in the bay area. I've eaten a lot of sushi, nigiri, sashimi and rolls.... This place slam dunks every single option of these that they have. The seared scallop nigiri is the best thing I've ever had. Desert from this place is just another order of seared scallop 🤣
My family and I had a delightful dining experience at Kamakura Japanese Restaurant in Los Gatos, and we were particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the establishment. The dining area was spotless, with tables and chairs meticulously arranged and free of any debris. The floors were well-maintained, and the overall ambiance was inviting and comfortable. The restrooms were also exceptionally clean, which added to our positive experience. The staff at Kamakura took great care in ensuring that all surfaces were regularly sanitized, and we noticed them frequently cleaning high-touch areas. This attention to detail made us feel safe and well-cared for during our visit. The presentation of the food was also impeccable, with each dish served on clean and attractive tableware. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant contributed significantly to our enjoyment of the meal. In addition to the cleanliness, the quality of the food and the friendly service made our visit to Kamakura a memorable one. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a clean and welcoming dining environment with delicious Japanese cuisine.
Their sashimi has a huge potion and the fish is very fresh. Their rolls are also have great taste. Service is fine.
Summer 2021. Walking with my husband along Santa Cruz ave. to have lunch in another restaurant and we decided to change the option: The almost 93F were perfect for sushi. We sat outside under the gallery ordered Edamame, Hawaiian poke California roll and Philadelphia roll. The service was fast and smiling, the prices were good. I highly recommend this place, probably coming back this weekend.
The food was delicious. The fried oysters were served fresh out of the frying pan. Very good presentation of the food, we like coming here for a quick bite and/or dinner.
Edit: still amazing 2021 and 2022 Kamakura is amazing, they have the best sushi in town! The service here is wonderful, the staff are very friendly. We have been goin here for years, most of the staff knows us by name and our order, even if it's been months since our last visit. The quality of the fish is always fresh, as are all their ingredients. If you are looking for fresh delicious sushi and wonderful friendly service this is the place. They do offer a small outdoor dining area but most of the seating is indoors.
Saw the sushi sign and came in. Great place, were seated right away and our orders came out fast. We decided to go with more of a keto friendly selection and honestly the sushi was still very delicious. Fairly priced for what we ordered and every item came out great. The portions are also huge. Would gladly return here.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kamakura Japanese Restaurant in Los Gatos, and it was a wonderful experience. We ordered the Salmon Teriyaki and a selection of their sushi rolls, and I was impressed with the quality of the food. The salmon teriyaki was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. As for the sushi, it was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Each bite reflected the care and attention that went into its preparation. The restaurant itself is very clean and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere for dining. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Their warm service truly added to the overall experience. Kamakura is definitely a spot I would highly recommend to anyone looking for quality Japanese food in Los Gatos. Whether you’re craving sushi or a hot meal like their teriyaki dishes, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a place I’ll be happy to return to!
Delicious food and great service. We sat outside on a warm day & it was very quaint & quiet. The sushi was delicious & also huge! Great prices for the amount of food received. Will be coming back again!
This is the best. I can not say anything other than their sushi is perfect. Fresh and delicious. Very nice and friendly staff. Thank you guys. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

You have to come here! My husband and I loved everything we ate. Our 5 year old got the kids chicken teriyaki w. the california roll. It's a big portion, you might even be able to split this between two younger kids if you wanted. We all ended up trying the Cali Roll and loved it. Our 10 year old ordered the Nabe Udon. It's definitely big enough to share as well. The waitress was kind enough to bring us two extra bowls and spoons. The broth was AMAZING. We also had the gyoza, and the dragon eye roll. The dragon eye roll was absolutely delicious. The service was also great. All of the waitresses that worked there were very nice and did a great job of checking on us.
Lots of choice in menu. Friendly staff, My salmon teriyaki is very yummy.
This is undeniably the best sushi spot you'll find in Los Gatos, although I wouldn't go as far as to claim it's the top pick in the entire Bay Area. While the menu boasts a fantastic array of choices, I have to admit, there's an abundance of spicy rolls, maybe even a bit too many for my taste. Nevertheless, the service here is top-notch and certainly adds to the overall dining experience. Personally, I tend to gravitate more towards their simpler rolls than the slightly pricier options, which can be a tad elaborate for my liking. The pace of service can be a little hurried, but it's evident they're attentive to their patrons' needs. And as a silver lining, they do offer a delightful selection of sake, which I've found to be quite enjoyable.
Good food. The service was good, but I don't understand why they seated us upstairs. Having a few older people walk up a narrow steep set of stairs didn't seem right. Also, it was very expensive. Sushi is not cheap, but this place costs more than I was expecting.
The food is great here however the service is extremely slow. I ordered a tempura appetizer and I received it after I received my main menu. It took about 40 minutes to receive the appetizer and I had to ask twice. The prices are higher than most sushi places. The roles were cut into no more than four or five pieces. Although it is tasty it was definitely an expensive night out for sushi. There are better sushi houses. Not sure I can recommend this place. It's a great thing it has going for it is the location. If you're walking downtown then it's probably your best option for a sushi restaurant.
First time here. Ridiculously fast service. Large portions, everything tasty. Los Gatos pricing, but worth it.
One of the finest sushi places in the area, fresh and tasty sushi’s Variety of options available for all types of taste Staff are super polite and friendly The only thing is the menu does not have pictures for someone like me that’s more visual! I had to rely on Google photos and guess what sushi is the one in the picture
Sushi was very good. Sat outside on a beautiful spring day. Service was very fast. They had my roll out within about 4 minutes. Couldn’t believe it. Sashimi was great, too, but the pieces were personally too big for me to eat. Should have been cut in half. Having said that, I’ll go back next time I want sushi in Los Gatos. Give it a try and judge for yourself.
It was very crowded on a nice Saturday afternoon, both indoor and outdoor seating was packed but they quickly found us a table! I had their traditional Jaoanese Bento box with Saba Shioyaki & Salmon Sashimi combo and my husband enjoyed the Sashimi Sampler.
Was not super excited with my sushi rolls - tried rice-less, and it turned out to be deep fried, very greasy. Only 5 pieces in a serving, and still I was unable to finish it. People in my party had other rolls which looked better, so I might give this place another try.

The service was attentive. I had a spicy tuna roll, it was just OK, nothing special. I also had a caterpillar roll which I thought was quite good. I'd go back.
I ate here 10-15 times. I always order the sushi/sashimi combo. And always really fresh and good. Last time, unagi, my favorite, was missing. The waitress told me to ask beforehand the next time. So tonight I did. This time she said it was the chefs choice so I said to please ask the chef to choose unagi:) But no unagi. From now on Otoro in Scotts Valley…
We were charged $11.95 for the gyoza appetizer that had been listed for ~$8 (maybe $8.95) on the menu we were given. It was the first item on the menu, we ordered it at the end of our meal as my toddler hadn't eaten enough, so I remember. I noticed the difference on the receipt once we were home. Called, they couldn't believe this was the price on the menu we were given on Friday - their prices went up some time ago? For my part, I wonder what else we were charged more for.
Food did not taste or look fresh. My husband and I were both sick after. We had a large selection, and most of it seemed like a bad cut, old fish, or very fatty. Service was fine but didn't make up for the unpleasantness of the food.
We came by for a late Monday night dinner. It was busy but luckily there was one table open for two indoors. Flies constantly annoyed us during our meal, one star off for that. Aside from comfort, a potential health concern. Husband said his tempura was oily, which may happen because the frying oil was too cool. My beef sukiyaki was a huge disappointment. The tofu slices on top, since they weren’t completely submerged, were still cold. Instead of using konyaku noodle knots, which is more typical, they used regular glass noodles. There was also generally a lot of filler as well, between the glass noodles and heaps of napa cabbage. The beef itself (not much of it) was cut too thick and tough, another star off for that. The broth was too sweet, heavy on the mirin. If you want good sukiyaki (with the semi-poached egg and everything), go to Yayoi. The agedashi tofu was served separately from the broth, but the fry on the tofu was limpy and wet despite not being in the broth (again, I think the frying oil was too cool). The broth again was too sweet, we put soy sauce in it to give it some oomph. I would recommend Gochi in Cupertino for agedashi tofu. It was difficult to flag down someone when we wanted to order or get the check.
Was feeling like BBQ and ended up with Japanese food, how does that happen? “Don’t try and understand, just go with it” Found myself in “the Cats” you all know it as Los Gatos, Walking around when suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw a Samurai! His shining sword nearly blinding me! My jaw dropped wide open in pure aw, my feet turned and walked towards him “HAY IT’S MY STORY I CAN TELL IT ANYWAY I WANT” So like I was saying I walked in and was seated immediately “the place was about 1/2 full the whole time I was there” the waitress spoke with the typical “slang-lish” Japanese, American accent. Sometimes I wonder if they really speak like that or if it’s to just mess with our head, You’ll have herd it and know what I’m talking about. Anyway I looked at the menu and saw it had some really cool whimsical names for their sushi dishes “like X Men” that’s kind of fitting I guess cuz all the X Men are dead now... hmmm Sushi, you think?.... I ordered the Dragon eye roll and the Godzilla roll. Wifey ordered the Tempura & Salmon teriyaki “ comes with a bowl of rice, soup and salad” Even though I poke fun at the place, in reality the device and the food was quite good, the price point is a little on the high side but I’m thinking that’s just the sign of the times here in lovely CA. Overall they are very solid in the 3 star range, getting into the 4s. The atmosphere is ok also at 3 stars and for us (older) yelpers with sensitive hearing, this place will fit the bill.
I got my introduction to fine sushi and sashimi on a business trip to Japan, where I learned how surprisingly delicious a delicate little morsel of raw fish could be. Unfortunately, Kamakura Japanese Restaurant doesn’t come close to delivering the same high quality. I think they’re catering to our typical American tastes where quantity is more important. “Huge portions” aren’t the best measure of fine Japanese food! My sashimi (Hamachi) as well as my wife’s (Maguro) were ok but unremarkable. From the moment we were seated, we felt very rushed to order our food. Turnover must be a high priority. But we wanted to relax and enjoy some wine first. I guess that people don’t do that here because our server just brought an open bottle to the table and left it for us to pour. Considering the quality of our meals, our inexperienced server, and our rushed experience, we probably won’t return.

This is a cute place, but rice is dry and the host was always in a bad mood when asking for anything. Made the dining expirence not Pleasant!!!!
The nigiri salmon had a lot of white fat on it and was too thick so it was hard to bite with too little rice under it. The ratio was way off. The gyoza itself was pretty good but the sauce didn’t have much/any flavor compared to other sushi locations we’ve been to. The rolls were mediocre. Too large to eat comfortably, lacking flavor and not super fresh. Can’t complain with the amount of food but not impressed with the quality. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

I thought I'd give this place another try because my preferred Sushi joint in town was closed. Google maps said they were open 'till 9:30 this Saturdaynight.. I walked in at 9:05. The place is usually packed, but tonight, hree of the dozen or so tables were occupied with rolls on the table. I pulled up and sat at the bar like I always do to see what looked fresh and interesting,..meh. I'm a Nigiri/Sashimi guy and wasn't that impressed the last time i was there a week ago. The server asked me, "one?", then told me to take a table as opposed to the bar because they needed to clean up? I took a table expecting to see a menu, but instead was asked if i could order quickly because they were going to close soon. I asked her how she could expect me to order without a menu?? I left and won't come back.
I came here with my 5 day old newborn and husband on Saturday to reunite with my beloved raw fish after 9 arduous months. The hostess saw our stroller and refused to seat us indoors stating our stroller would be an impediment to patron traffic, even though the restaurant was 3/4 empty and closing in 1 hour. I asked again to be seated indoors at a table out of others way and she was adamant she could not. I left in tears and went to an infinitely better Yokohana <2 minute walk away. I would urge any mamas, and moreover families to avoid this place and spare yourself such unpleasant and unnecessary interactions with people who haven’t the faintest idea what service means.
We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is good. But they rush you. Even when you still have 30% of your food on the table and you are eating in a normal pace or fast they come and ask if you want anything else. Then the bill is brought within a moment !! You are still eating and they start removing plates from the table obviously telling you to get out so that they can seat another party. Very rude. I brought it up to the manager's attention on the way out. He looked the other way and barely said sorry.
I went out to dinner with my best friend, but unfortunately, our experience was ruined. While we were eating, my friend found a hair in her food. She was really upset because it was her first time trying udon, and we had ordered based on the server’s recommendation. It was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. Because of this, we decided not to leave a tip. Then, when we went inside to use the restroom, one of the staff members was incredibly rude to us. Her attitude was disrespectful and made the situation even worse. Overall, we had a terrible night, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was an awful experience.
The rice was overcooked! Even the simplest rolls looked as if they were thrown together blindfolded. Honestly, it felt like the place wanted to get rid of its customers rather than feed them. And the baked mussels? A culinary trap — steer clear at all costs.

This has nothing to do with Sushi, the fish is way too thick, the Taste and texture is not good at all. The fish seems to be prepared in large batches it is kind of industrial made food.
