Roxanne was a delight! We haven’t had such excellent, enthusiastic service in such a long time. She made our lunch a most enjoyable experience.
Friendly polite staff, great food, big portions, pricing is fair, and service is quick. No trash cans in the dining area is weird, how do customers throw away trash when folks are done dining in?
I ordered chicken alfredo. Their in-store made Alfredo sauce is great. Friendly helpful staff at Something Different really is something different compared with many other restaurants and stores nowadays.
Great food and friendly service. The mozzarella sticks are massive and the jacked up spud is to die for. The watermelon tea is good as well. (Update) I have never had a bad experience here and tonight they went above and beyond. They were very busy and were sold out of what I ordered online but the staff went above and beyond to take care of me. 100% recommended. Keep up the great work.
Had amazing service! The name something different is very spot on. Ashlee gave us spectacular suggestions and kept up with us during our whole visit. She’s very sweet and friendly. Everyone was helpful and really seemed to enjoy being there. Our experience was easily memorable and I’m glad we chose to eat in!
In the area with some family friends and they recommended we try the food here. It was astounding to have such a HIGH level of customer service and professional care in a small quaint and welcoming shop. I was blown away with how delightful the staff were. I’d highly recommend to anyone who wants a delicious meal and great friendly customer service. The food was amazing and came out fast and hot, really enjoyed the fried pickles and my teriyaki bowl was the best I’ve had in years. 10/10 the best little grill I’ve had the pleasure of dining in.
We had a luncheon get together this week and one of the group suggested the Something Different Grill on 50th east of Quaker. She had gotten food to go and was pleased with the food and the price. We went in at 1 pm and were surprised by the beautiful peaceful decor. The walls were stained wooden slats accented with a variety of woven baskets. Simple and clean. The dining area had booths and tables that were spaced so that your table was far enough away so you weren't in the middle of a near table conversation. We ordered at the counter and with in ten minutes we had our fried pickle appetizer delivered to our table. It was delicious! The pickles were battered lightly and fried to a golden crispy state. It was hard not to eat all of them, but we had to save room for our entrees. The chicken teriyaki bowl was large enough to share with plenty of rice, chicken and veggies...and the wrap was large and filled with plenty of ingredients to make it delicious. It too could be shared easily. This restaurant is one of those that you drop in and then can't get it out of your mind. I have tried to figure out when my husband and I can get away to go eat there. The portion sizes are large, the price is minimal. Perhaps we will see you there, if not today, then perhaps tomorrow!
Honestly, we waited a long time to try this place, thinking it would be less than average, just another restaurant idea in the hub city that fizzles out after a year or so. I’ll be the first to admit we were wrong. First off, the service was exceptional. The staff was incredibly friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The food came out quickly but very fresh. Secondly, the food was refreshingly good and “different”. The green chili “Johnny bites” were delicious; the zesty Thai chicken salad was delightful; and the custom spud hit the spot. Then having Dippin’ Dots was a nice bonus. We will be back soon to try all the other “different” items they have!
I love cooking here & eating here! Don't believe me come see for yourself!
Love this place! I used to visit the restaurants in Portales and Clovis. When we moved to Lubbock, we noticed that they had built here as well! I always ordered teriyaki chicken Caesar salads but they don't make that anymore. The staff is super awesome and they do add teriyaki chicken to my chef salad. Then I pour the teriyaki on it too, with ranch. The staff is great and they have great personaliti3s as well. I recommend the covered potatoes, salads, or teriyaki bowls. The appetizers are all good. One of the best mozzarella sticks (blocks) anywhere. Honestly, I haven't tried anything here that I don't like. I haven't tried everything but I'm sure it is all good. I've tried most of the menu throughout the many years I've visited these restaurants. I do believe they are a local business that has expanded, but they have not lost ANY of their quality through expansion. Oh and my kid always gets Dippin Dots for dessert. They're flavored tea can be ordered by the gallon and flavored or you can go inside and drink as much as you like! Highly recommend this place. Although I'd love if you went to the one across town so I don't have to wait in line for too long 😂🤷🏼♀️
Chuck is awesome and so was the other staff members. They made sure our drinks were refilled and the food came out very fast. I highly recommend.
Devin, the General Manager at this restaurant, and ALL his staff displayed OUTSTANDING customer service during my visit. They are all friendly, polite, & professional, & keep their restaurant clean. They provided amazingly fast service time in getting our food out, they stopped by our table twice to refill our drinks and offer additional sauces etc., and somehow managed to provide all of these things during a busy weekday lunch rush! I am so impressed! The food is also fantastic, and the menu is broad and varied- almost as if their goal was to provide an environment in which almost anyone could find something they would like to eat! Honestly, I would come back just for the service! I very highly recommend this place for everyone in Lubbock- check it out!
No one warned me that the mozzarella sticks were that big. Best sit down experience in quite a while. They play great music and I really enjoyed hearing the staff sing to Adele. Very entertaining lunch break! The guy working the register was awesome as well! Thank you for serving great food having a positive atmosphere!
The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Both bowls we ordered were yummy and filling. We could not eat it all. We tried the flavored coconut tea and sweet potato fries and found both to be excellent. The restaurant is modern, but the atmosphere is relaxing with the decor selections.
First time frequented this restaurant. I was impressed by the efficiency of the staff and we loved the variety of the menu. There were 2 cooks, someone at drive thru, a woman taking orders at the counter, & a woman who was moving so fast she was a blur! Each of us was in the mood for something different & the menu allowed us to find something to tickle our fancy 😉😋 ! The hubby wanted a spud, he ordered the Jacked Up Spud, and loved it. I tried a chicken wrap which was great. I highly recommend giving Someone Different on 50th St a try!
When I am hungry but dont want typical fast food, Something different works every time. Great food, great service and it doesnt break the bank.
We always have such a great time at something different. Their food is delicious and the staff is super accommodating. They regularly check on you. Portion sizes are great, and you can’t beat their teriyaki chicken bowl deal for Tuesdays. 10/10 recommend. Our family of 7 can eat for $40. That’s a win!
First time in and will definitely be back. I had the chicken teriyaki bowl which was delicious and fufulling in portions!! I got to try the California wrap 🤤which was delicious! Roxanne helped us at the counter and had excellent customer service skills. She was kind and attentive, informative about the menu! She came and checked on us and was genuinely interested in our experience! Shout out to chuck as well who looked like he was getting off shift and heading out the door, but stopped by our table to check on us and our experience! The ambience was nice and relaxing! Above and beyond guys! I will definitely be back!
I wish I had taken pictures of our food before we all devoured it ! My boyfriend and our kids went in and we both work in food service, man it was so delicious! The chicken nuggets are obviously hand battered, perfectly seasoned, and so flavorful ! I had the Cali spud with crispy chicken instead of grilled, and oh man as she was putting the food in front of me my mouth was watering ! My boyfriend tried the cheesy steak sandwich, and said it was the best sandwich he’s ever had ! The French fries were perfectly cooked and still crunchy even after they got a little cold! This was my first time ever here and I will say it was absolutely amazing! The service was so great, all the employees were so nice and so knowledgeable of the menu! We will be coming back!
Went here based on a recommendation. Staff was very friendly greeting everyone that came in. Manager was in dining room watching staff and customers. Saw him put down his spreadsheet to help deliver dishes when needed. Food runner was super nice and very polite. Cleared plates too when he walked by. Free drink refills too. Note the cheapest place to eat in town but food was very good. Had the double beef teriyaki bowl. Would order again.
Food and service were really on point. Some outstanding fries 🍟. The baked potatoes were delicious 🥔. The cheese steak was really good.
Great salads and good service at very reasonable prices.
So first off the place looked nice clean and well together. The cashier today was so good at her job helped me find exactly what I was craving, cause the cheesy steak sandwhich was perfection. I took a bite from my kids chicken nugs and obvious hand made batter super delicious man. They were so nice and patient with my family. 10/10 Highly recommend
I wanted a baked potato. So I stopped in and ordered the Jaked up spud. That was exactly what I wanted. Of course they have other options. The tea is great. The staff was really good. They would walk out in the seating area to check on everyone. Getting refills, or whatever we might have needed. They have more on the menu than spuds. Stop by and give them a whirl. I do not think you will be disappointed.
Staff is very friendly and attentive, during the 30 minutes we were their team members checked on our table several times. The food came out fast and was delicious. Highly recommend the chicken wrap and zucchini chips! I also noticed how clean the whole place was! The staff seemed to have a good relationship with each other and really work together to provide great service, I hope their leadership recognizes how good their team members are.
My wife and I were looking for something different and wouldn't you know. The food was amazing. The people working there even though a Monday night were very helpful and did a great job. If we are ever back in Lubbock again we definitely will be going back
Awesome food great service. Casual dinning
Once we walked in, Jamison was fascinated by the chairs, the smells, he asked questions a mile a minute. The wonderful girl taking our varying orders had and kept his attention, he’d smile over at her when she wasn’t looking and I’ve never stepped into a restaurant where I’ve felt at ease, until here. My mom, brother, kiddo and me had varying orders that were absolutely spot on, and we’d babied and cleaned the to-go containers until they fell apart. If you’re in the mood for something different, this is the place to go. Also…brownies…TO DIE FOR. Now he won’t eat mine 😭 it’s their fault but I’m not mad
Great service very kind people offered me more teriyaki sauce for my bowl twice food tasted great never been to a better restaurant recommend it
Food was delicious, made to specification and fast service!!
“This restaurant was fantastic! The service was incredibly attentive—our server ensured we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. The food was equally impressive; chicken Alfredo was cooked to perfection, and the fried zucchini was heavenly. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere made the experience even better. Highly recommend!”
Simple place with a unique menu with plenty variety. My family enjoyed our teriyaki bowls but I was sadly too full to go full tilt and get a Cali spud, which sounded awesome. Kitchen was quick and friendly. Will be back for a spud for sure.
Their name says it all!!! This is the BEST chicken spud I have ever tasted…and omg the fried pickles are a must try!!! Great prices, great atmosphere and amazing customer service!!!! The manager was so polite and professional to the T!!! 50th street location is THE place to go to!!!! I can’t wait to be back to try “SOMETHING DIFFERENT”!!!! So many choices for a little belly!!! It makes you want to come back for more!!!! 5 stars for sure!!!!!
I have never ate here, only picked up orders, but after today (01/30/24 - 4ish) I might stop by later in the week. I don't know his name but walking in this place I was greeted by a very busy man. Sounds weird but seeing this guy work the front counter, the drivethru, the oven, the prep, I mean everything.. looking back the greeting was probably the least of his worries and he still managed to do it. Wish I had gotten his name, the man is a beast and Something Different needs to give the man a raise 100%
The service was fast and the food was good. I got the Jacked Up Spud with Monterey Jack cheese, green chillies, and grilled chicken. They also have flavored teas: I tried the unsweetened coconut tea. It was pretty good. They're known for their teriyaki bowls, so I'll try that when I go back.
The waiter was so friendly and so quick to serve. He did great with everyone! The food was delicious and the out of town guest we brought loved it!
Me and my wife recently discovered this place and we both love it every time we go. The food is good, service has been great and the variety and choices they have make it easy to take kids.
Food is always fresh and crispy. Also always hot! Service is fast and they're always kind!!
The food is always amazing! And the staff is so sweet and helpful! They are kind and always make us feel welcome. Just finished a long shift at the hospital and went in for dinner tonight. They greeted us and brought our food out super fast! They even checked in and offered extras! I can appreciate hard working employees!
The restaurant was crowded. But everything was pleasant. The food came out fast. Employees were super friendly and helpful. I am impressed.
Amazing time, the manager chuck is the absolute best, very polite, fast, and very attentive to his guests. Definitely will be coming back with my family and friends. Amazing food as well, hot, fresh, and straight to your table with a smile.
First time trying this place and it was great! Friendly service and clean. I got the Turkey bacon avocado wrap and it was very good.
Every single time we've been in, the staff is so friendly and they absolutely seem to love my kiddo. He's a spaghetti hound, and our counter lady always makes sure we have extra napkins (😆 I never said the child wasn't messy about it). We will continue coming, and who knows maybe my kiddo will grow into the shirt he was gifted ❤️ keep up the good work!
So thankful that Lubbock has Something Different. It’s our go to spot when we’re on the go but want a healthy, home cooked dinner. We’re here a couple times a month and the service is always top notch. Wanted to leave a good review as a thank you to the team.
1st visit here and I really loved and enjoyed my food. For ordering fish that is close 600 miles away from the ocean it was yummy. The coleslaw was excellent. I am very pickie in coleslaw and this one was awesome. ! The fries are super nice and crispy y NOT greasy ! I traveled many places in the states and I will give reviews on food. I give it a 10. Customer service was Awesome super friendly and caring! I give the TEA a perfect 10 ! I had the coconut tea. It was super good! Had a refill for the road ! I will come bk and visit AGAIN!
We decided to try this out tonight and were very pleased! The food was good, and the guys working the counter were so friendly and attentive! Will definitely be back!
One of my absolute favorite places! Food is always amazing, and employees are always helpful and very sweet.
Great food. For the night you can't agree on what you want. There is something for everyone. They give samples of their tea. Watermelon tea was hesitant but not after the sample. The have regular tea. Mango, coconut, raspberry, peach, and of course watermelon. They have sodas for the non-tea drinkers.
Food was awesome. Gia was great she needs a raise and promotion. She checked on us frequently and even helped with the kiddos. Chuck was very informative and helpful. Highly recommend this place.
First and foremost, food was great. Our first time there and we will be returning. Service was great as well. The GM Chuck was super nice and friendly. Staff stayed busy and keeping area nice and clean. 😁
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked in. I was surprised at the options on the menu and was hesitant even eating here. We had the Szechwan Teriyaki Bowl, Chick Fried Steak Spud, and a Bacon cheese burger at our table and they were all great. Additionally, the coconut sweet tea was a treat. I’d definitely go back, but probably would try something different. Update 1/7/18: Went again today. Had the Jacked Spud. Another solid offering. The spud was soft and heaped with all kinds of goodness. It is good to see consistency in their product. I look forward to trying more there.
I absolutely LOVE this place. The staff is always kind and professional. The food is always FRESH and delicious. This place is also very healthy. I love it!.
We love this place. Food is served hot and fast. Employees are so good at checking on you to see if you need anything. Jessie always makes sure you have everything you need.
Ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. Great portions and looked just like the picture in their menu. The interior was very clean and comfortable with nice music playing.
It was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes were perfect, I got my fill and had enough to take home to eat for lunch the next day. I got the chicken bacon ranch potato and my wife got the chicken alfredo. Both were delicious! Definitely will go back next time we are passing though lubbock!
I'm from out of town and this was my first time at this establishment. It's basically similar to a Qdoba or Chipotle, but for Mediterranean food. The options can be a bit overwhelming so the option to select from pre-created bowls was nice. The serving sites was generous and the food was delicious. They were prepping to clean the ice cream machine while we're there and received a complimentary icecream with coffee syrup; it also was enjoyable.
What a great find. Very friendly staff. Grandson wanted spaghetti, he cleaned his plate… we also had green chili spaghetti, a sandwich, and the green chili poppers. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They even have coconut tea! The price is reasonable, big portions. We will eat here again.
My family and I were in the area doing a school visit and was looking fro something to eat. We pulled up this restaurant. The food was great and wasn't expensive. It was a good choice. If you are in the Lubbock and want to get a good meal I recommend stopping by and sitting down to enjoy your food.
Saturday, September 20, 2025. Gentleman working the front counter and running food to the tables was spectacular! Food was phenomenal, and you get portion sizes that far exceed what we thought we'd get for the price. First time here, and we will likely make it a frequent stop. Try the mozzarella sticks!
The employees were fantastic. Greeted everyone with a smile. Checked on us after being served as well as everyone else in the restaurant. It's just a very positive vibe. Then the food... Amazing. All cooked to order. Expect a 10 - 15 wait, depending on your order. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this place before. But I will definitely be a regular moving forward. It's one of my favorite restaurants for a casual meal. I ate the mozzarella sticks before I took a pic. Lol
The Something Different Grill is an amazing place to eat at. The staff are very kind and offer friendly and amazing service. There is a good amount of food choices to choose from, as well as a good amount of customization. The atmosphere is very chill and upbeat. The food is served hot and fresh and is very fulfilling. Would eat here again a hundred percent!!
Love this place. The food was delicious… after taking a recommendation from the staff we tried the Fried Chicken & Gravy Spud tastes just like Chicken Fried Chicken Dinner! Yummy! Also we had the Loaded Jack Spud and it was loaded in green chilies and cheese… tastes made to order, not processed at all. I’ll definitely be back when I’m visiting Lubbock. Thanks to the staff for being so honest and friendly!
A very interesting restaurant. I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich with no bell pepper. It was delicious, alas, they left off the grilled onion. It was tastey nonetheless. I also ended up having their brownie a la mode. Which was also good. My only complaint is that my order took a very long time. Perhaps because I don't like bell pepper and they had to do something special. However, other than that small point, it was very enjoyable.
We came in after church to try it. We enjoyed the variety of food, and the quick service. They have everything from asian bowls, to pasta, to baked potatoes. We got Johnny bites and fries zucchini for appetizers, and the Johnny bites we the best! They were honestly the best fried potato type food I've ever eaten. My husband got a cheesey steak sandwich he said it was excellent. My mother in law got Szechuan chicken bowl. She said it had the perfect amount of spice. I got a baked potato and it was HUGE! I couldn't finish the whole thing. They weren't skimpy on the toppings either. Kids portion are nice and big. Honestly if you are an adult with a smaller appetite the kids portion would be enough. The service was on point. Even though it's an order at the counter, fast casual place, the people continued to check to make sure we had everything we needed. Great experience we would definitely go back!
Tried the new Turkey Spud 🥔 and it was as good as I had hoped. Maybe a bit more gravy would be good though. My wife tried the fairly new Santa Fe Spud, and it was good too. Similar to the Mexican Spud, but the addition of corn and beans was nice. The green chiles also gave it some real heat.
The food was really good and the portions are quite... well lets just say hope your hungry! The food is a little $$pricey for some of the entrees. The appetizers are definitely over priced! The young lady with the facial piercings needs a bit of customer service training her expressions showed as though she was dreading her job! Therefore took away one star. The atmosphere of the dining room is nice and it was very clean!
I've ordered from door dash twice and in person once. Both times on door dash I had problems with my order. One of the times I paid for extra portions 3x and only got a partial refund though I didn't receive what I paid for. When it happened on my second order, too....and doordash didn't communicate at all about my feedback, I decided it was time for a google review. I'm trying to be fair here with 5 stars for the food and 4 stars overall...though probably deserve less the fact this wasn't reconciled through the other channels.
The updated version of their menu was not available on here but the food was really good, I got their Thai food option and the chicken salad. The portion size was really impressive and the service was not too bad. I loved their chocolate brownie too. The prices were slightly high but worth it I think. Great place for a date or for just hanging out with friends or family.
Great value for the price. Delicious food. I had the chicken fried steak spud & hubby ordered the california something or other. Apart from the additional toppings being a little more costly than we thought (almost half the price of the spud) it was great! Portions are spot on. Tea wasn't (in my humble opinion) the "best in town" but it was fresh & very good! We will def try the different flavors next time. Very beautifully decorated. Loved the vibe. Staff was very nice and attentive, even coming out to offer refills. We paid about $27 for 2 spuds & 2 buckets of sweet tea 😂 2 extra small cups of cheese, a small cup of gravy and some butter squares was $4. The spud cost $9.99 so 🤷🏻♀️ idk enough about math or restaurant pricing but was a little steep in my opinion. I like my spud topped to the last bite though so we paid up lol. We will definitely be back! S/N - they have this awesome long bar with outlets and USB ports so it looks to be a great place to have lunch when needing to do some work or school stuff!!
Something Different Grill is a great place to drop by for a good meal. The service is top notch and the food is great. The dining room is clean and the tables are quickly bussed. There is plenty of parking and it is free. Feel free to order anything on the menu and I am sure you will be happy.
This food is great!! My husband ordered the teriyaki chicken and beef. He absolutely loved it! I ordered the Cobb salad, wonderful!! I wanted the spud menu but spuds would not be ready for 10 more minutes. As I said, the food was great! When we walked in we were greeted by an employee that was not professional (Jessica). She had an attitude and unprofessional. We almost walked out after she reached into her shirt and scratched her underarm while we were trying to order. This person needs to be working in the back and not working with the public. While eating our meal, I decided to get a spud meal to go. Tiffany was so wonderful, she is an excellent person and employee. She impressed me so much in the short conversation. I would recommend Tiffany and the food.
Had the shrimp and chicken rice bowl. To be honest, it tasted like a microwave dinner. Usually the shrimp and chicken are b.b.qed with that flavor. Not for me!
Food was great and the atmosphere is amazing the but I believe one of the managers there is don't remember her name but she had long red hair and short. She was very rude and unpleasant to be around it's as if she didn't want anyone there or didn't want to be there but I would return for the amazing food
I just want to start this off by saying I used to work for SDG from late 2018 to 2020 - and I worked my way from a cashier to a kitchen shift lead. That being said, tonight (4/22/22) my husband and I had a call in order. We ordered a taco wrap w/ waffle fries (that part was right) and a zesty Thai ranch salad with crispy chicken and NO tomatoes. Simple enough. Got all the way home to see tomatoes on my salad, mind you I did specifically ask for no tomatoes. I called the restaurant, told the girl (who was also the same girl who took my order, Serina, who is a SHIFT LEAD! and even had it on there that there was supposed to be no tomatoes.) on the phone my problem. She said, “I’m sorry about that.” I said, “Okay.” Which she replies “I’m sorry I’m not sure what you want us to do unless you want it remade.” I have a 5 month old, didn’t really want to put him back in the car and go all the way back, not that I didn’t want a remake, but it’s inconvenient. Had I been a different customer, maybe one with an allergy to tomatoes, how would they of handled it then? They apparently act appropriately to allergies, but not this evening. From there it was just completely unprofessional and unhelpful - from a shift lead, the person who is supposed to do the “better job” and have great communication UNPROFESSIONAL! I’m sorry to pull the card, but when I worked there we were definitely more apologetic and offered more than one solution to fix the problem, not “I’m sorry I don’t know what you want us to do.” I love SDG still to do this day, but this was disappointing and not to the normal standard I thought they could be held to.
First and foremost- the food is good. Salads aren't as big as I anticipated due to reviews and price, but filling nonetheless. The quality is subpar, but overall satisfying. My biggest complaint is the zucchini chips. This really can't be the correct portion size they give you for $6, right? Surely I was just skimmed here.
The texture of their "beef" makes me wonder what sort of meat product it really is. The previously frozen carrots and broccoli seem to have been steam cooked in the bag they came in with no seasoning whatsoever. At least the egg roll was decent.
Food looked alright. The staff was very rude and unsanitary. No gloves were used, no telling what other things were handled with their hands (reminded me of india). The staff was very unresponsive to take anyones order. Would not recommend, unless you enjoy food handled by dirty hands.
If I could leave one start I would! This definitely is not your mommas kitchen! Let’s start off with the rubbery chicken fried steak that had no taste & the teriyaki chicken bowl that was dry and she forgot my vegetables. Then when we ask for peach cobbler we get a nice big burnt piece of cobbler. When we mentioned it to the rude cashier at the front she says “oh it’s just a little crispy.” Basically got stuck with rubbery chicken fried steak, a dry teriyaki plate, burnt peach cobbler and a nice big bill. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Came into the restaurant the cashier and the General Manager or staff never greeted me I went to menu to look and order they never approached me to ask if I wanted to order anything not even a drink….
Food was mediocre and bland. Ordered online and when I went there to get my food the person working the drive through was very rude. Not very friendly service. I wouldn't suggest this place unless your that desperate to eat something. Better service and nicer people are at other places that have better quality of food.
After giving them several chances, we will no longer return. It keeps getting worse every time. Tonight my butter, cheese & chive potato obviously came directly out of the refrigerator, cut open, & the 3 items thrown on it. The potato was totally cold, hard as a rock. The little bit of cheese that was given was not melted. Only 1 small tablespoon of butter was unmelted. For such a large potato only requiring butter, cheese & chives, more than 1 tablespoon of butter is needed, & more than a very small amount of cheese. Have to pay 3 times extra to get a decent amount of chives. My husband’s Mexican potato was equally cold & hard. This has happened over & over again, yet we still kept giving them another chance. But tonight was the worst. Rock hard cold potatoes is unacceptable. What if we were taking our order somewhere without a microwave? Service was friendly, but very rushed. Only 2 men were working. After giving them a number of chances we will not return.
