Hands down one of the best Chimichangas I've had🙌 overall the food was delicious, customer service good and great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back 👌
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know about a local Mexican restaurant El Vecino True Tex Mex, in the Old Lake Highlands area of Dallas. It’s very close to White rock Lake an and off Buckner Blvd and North Cliff Drive.it’s been here for several years and although we haven’t been in the last year or two due to pandemic and such we went back again and the food, atmosphere, and service was all spectacular. This place is very family friendly with lots of families and lots of kids plenty of space and everybody seems so relaxed. There is plenty of help and the servers are spot on. The food is fantastic, no matter what you get it’s really, really good. The drinks are good too. The salsa is especially good, and the green salsa, wow… it’s very citrusy and has a bite to it but it taste so fresh, just love it, the red salsa is also excellent. On this night we got the fajitas and enchiladas. The beans were spectacular and tasty, the meat on the fajitas came out just smoking sizzling and it was so soft and flavorful. There are plenty of options to choose from, so no doubt you’ll find something wonderful to try. So it’s a really good place and carries a good vibe to it with all customers and staff. The prices are decent and it’s a place to go back to again and again and you’ll always have a great time and great food. I highly recommend this place, so do yourself a favor, and go try it out, I truly believe you’ll be glad you did. Everyone stay safe out there and enjoy.
Stopped by for dinner; the place is clean and they had great music. They were very busy so the place was loud- but not the annoying loud since we were able to hold a conversation with no issues. Our server was Victor, he was very attentive, despite the dinner rush, kind and shared the chef’s specials without us asking (that’s a sign of a great server) The appetizers & food came out quick. We got queso and guacamole; both had good flavor. My boyfriend ordered the “Carne Asada & Enchilada” and I ordered the Nonny’s Dinner. The carne asada was perfectly cooked and seasoned well and the chicken breast in my meal was juicy, tender and well seasoned/marinated. The sides were all good as well. They have an extensive margarita list; he ordered the “El Caliente” it was great- heavy on the tequila. The only thing I didn’t notice was a baby changing station. There were two desperate bathrooms but the one I went into didn’t have one so I had to change my baby on the counter. Would definitely recommend and would definitely dine in again!
This is a really cute restaurant with amazing service and delicious food. We had a great experience. The beef fajitas and the salsas were okay, but I would highly recommend the guacamole and any of the enchiladas. The margaritas are pretty strong too. 😁
Went to El Vecino for the first time. Inside it has an inviting atmosphere. I was greeted immediately by staff. I placed my orders and service is very fast. Staff (Rambo) is very attentive. The food is great specially the sour cream chicken enchilada. I also ordered the prickly pear margarita and asked tajin around the glass, and it’s so good. Love it. Will come back again and bring my friends and coworkers.
That was a very fun outing! I had never heard of this restaurant before, but it was a happening place! Great margaritas, of course! I got the Carne Asada y mole enchilada. The other dishes were Conchinita Pibil then enchiladas. Finished with coconut 🥥 flan! It was really delicious!! I'd do that again! Definitely going back!
We found El Vecino by accident after driving past another place that only had valet. I’m so glad we did! This place was amazing! Our waiter Raul gave us the best service ever. He was friendly, fast, and made sure we had everything we needed. If you go, ask for Raul—you won’t regret it! We had brunch and ordered the egg enchilada, queso, and chicken fajitas—everything was so good! We also tried the loaded queso and margarita swirls… wow! The owner even came by to say hi and talk with us. That made it even more special. El Vecino is a great place with amazing food and awesome people. We’ll definitely be back! Ashly and Larry
El Vecino has been a staple in this neighborhood for many years! I moved away from the neighborhood, but came back and thought I would hop in for a new experience of the place. The restaurant seems tucked away, but once you enter through the front door, you realize how lively it can be! I was seated very quickly despite it being busy and I met Yaz, an older gentleman, and a server that was very friendly and inviting. Despite it being just me, they gave me a booth of my preference. I’m usually pretty quick to order because I know what I want and I got the Big Johns Platter (See Photo). I got chips almost immediately. My food came out so soon after that I was surprised. The enchiladas were probably the highlight, although I do like my cheese enchiladas pretty cheesy and it had a long string of cheese when I ate a bite, which was amazing. The beans and rice were very good. The atmosphere was lively yet slightly dim, and although I don’t drink, I heard that their margaritas were fantastic. I will definitely be back and recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable tasty place to relax with friends.
Great authentic Mexican restaurant tucked into the neighborhood area. We went on a Friday night, there was a 30 min wait but we were able to get a drink from the bar and sit and wait and time flew. The service and staff were all really friendly. The food came really quickly. I ordered the Taco Salad and loved it. It was very flavorful and it didn’t need the dressing. My drink was the Sangria Margarita and it was so good ! Overall great little spot to support. Will be going again!
I was at a local photoshoot and hadn't eaten all day so I wanted to pick a great place that would feed my hunger. Fortunately El Vecino Tex Mex rose to the occasion! Thanks to a Google Maps search we tried our luck here and we were not disappointed. I almost always get chicken fajitas in Tex Mex restaurants and this was excellent! The chicken was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. They didn't skimp on the skillet fried onions or peppers. The rice, bean and fixin's were generous as well. I want to shout out the chips and the red and green salsa that was served before the meal. All were top shelf! I ended up getting the caramel churros and those were tasty too. The service here was exceptional. We never had to wait for drinks, chip refills, or for our plates to be removed. This is obviously a local hangout, with a vibrant bar- like atmosphere. Lots of pretty people were making an appearance. They do serve drinks and various draft and bottled beer. We're looking forward to going back!
If I could give this place 6 stars for the food, I would! First off, the complementary chips and salsa are great. I'm normally a green salsa guy, but the red salsa here is velvety smooth and very delicious - very different in texture to most red salsas at Tex Mex places. I got the Charley's Choice (trio of enchiladas with shrimp, brisket, and chicken, and different sauces too). The mole was excellent! The shrimp had a nice grilled flavour to them as well. The service was pleasant and attentive, and parking here is plentiful. I'd definitely be back as often as I could visit!
Wait time: Less than 5 minutes with a dining room full on a Saturday evening. Service: Fast, friendly and professional Food: True Tex-Mex. The salsa wasn’t that great. The Queso was a bit thick and greasy. However, the main dishes were great. We had enchiladas and the sauce was perfect, great amount of food what the price. Average $13 a plate, which is less expensive than most other Tex-Mex restaurants.
Service is top notch in professionalism and attentiveness! Overall very well mannered staff. Food was good. I was disappointed in their salsa/hot sauce options & their queso was a disappointment, but other than that the experience was pleasant. Our whole group enjoyed the Margaritas even 1 non alcoholic margarita.
I love this place and have been going twice a month since it opened. We order out, we order in - we order a lot. Tonight went to the bar to order (love the bar, love the staff at the bar), but I ordered something new (spinach enchiladas). I took one singular bite, and it was not good (it was cold, the cheese was hard and congealed), nor what I expected (they said it was white cheese, it was cheddar), and I sent it back. They brought out another dish right away (chicken enchiladas - delicious) and I ate it up. But here's the rub: I got the check and they charged me for both dishes and, well, I think that's kinda crummy. Real crummy, in fact, so I wanted to share. Will I go back? Yes indeed. Is it good food? Yes, most certainly. Just don't order something you've never had before, and if you do, and it's gross, don't wait until you get home to complain, do it right there.
Competent. Not great but ok. Popular neighborhood restaurant but not worth driving out of your way to get there. The chips were cooked in old oil at too low a temperature for too long resulting in greasy off tasting chips. Salsas we're a bit different with a heavy vinegar taste. Taco was tasteless. Enchiladas were competent. The service was ok but no one had a smile, it was just a job. The one redeeming quality was the interior decor with it's Mexican-funky vibe. After weighing it all; We will not returning.
Went here for the 2nd time, food was GREAT got ready to get up and i still had the food towel across my lap so i sat it on the bar and one of the bartenders (the older hispanic guy with the glasses) decided to rush us up and throw my towel on the floor and proceeded to wipe the countertop down in front of us without us moving completely out the way, i told him he does not have to rush us because we are paying customers and “TIP” as well then he told us he been waiting to long for us to “MOVE” that is not how you treat paying customers this was a AWFUL experience and i do not appreciate being treated in such a way everyone else was so pleasing. That bartender is not friendly and his attitude is HORRIBLE !
My husband and I went to celebrate my birthday on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. My husband asked for a slightly spicier salsa, and the waiter told us that the salsas were only made for the Americans who frequented the restaurant. This was a rude response to someone who had spent seventy dollars and left a ten-dollar tip. We always leave a twenty-dollar tip. We are Hispanic and deserve to be treated the same as other customers. He rushed us so much while we ordered and almost forced us out of the restaurant with his bad attitude. We will never go back there. It's a shame because the owner is very friendly, but his Hispanic waiter wasn't worth the expense.
This is the first time coming here I ordered the tortilla soup it had no flavor no salt. I ordered the combo fajitas the chicken fajitas had no taste and they were so dry and hard. The fajitas steak kinda ok not the best The only thing that was good was the chips and the Coke and I drove all the way from Wylie to try out this place that’s supposedly so delicious. It was a waste of time and money. I would never go there again. And they were not that busy and they put me in the smallest table. The waiter was not that nice either and once again. I will never go there again.
So 3 years ago I posted the review below. Have been back several times and has been decent but today the food was horrible. I had exactly the same thing in the picture. The chicken was dry and over cooked. The mushrooms were completely raw. The rice was dry. Took over 5 minutes for the waiter to come check on us Eve after I pushed the food towards the side of the table. After asking about the plate he didn't seem to care and then asked for the manager and the lady came over and I explained the situation even showing her my original review and she just said no one else has complains about the food. With that being said and the lack of care from staff and management unfortunately I probably won't be back nor recommend this place to anyone else as I have been for 3 years. VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER!! Do BETTER!! First time here after looking for a new spot to try. This food was amazingly fresh and had great taste and flavor. I ordered the chicken Mexican stir fry because I love my vegetable's. Wife had enchiladas and she said same thing extremely fresh. Highly recommend this place we definitely will be back. Great atmosphere and friendly host, servers, and bussers.
