We went to Tchefunctes tonight and started a new tradition with our friends. It’s a swanky joint and everything is beautifully appointed. The bar, the private rooms, kitchen; no detail appears unthought of. We started at the bar where I asked the bartender, Trey, to make me something with gin, and not a French 75. He made the best gin martini I’ve ever had. Others also requested custom drinks and her delivered. Chase was our server and was knowledgeable and passionate about the menu. He took care of every element. The food was absolutely stunning. Each course was prepared and presented perfectly. The kitchen staff deserves accolades. Private parking is available in a dedicated lot. Reservations strongly recommended.
Visiting a close friend (whom I know from decades of voluntary commitment to the PGA of America Committees) who lives north of New Orleans, he chauffeured us to one of his favorite dining places near his home. Situated on the water with views of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's home and yacht, Tchefuncte's Restaurant is a discerning foodie extravaganza of chef's kitchen pleasures. Server Michael guided us through a caviar appetizer with small potatoes pancakes, tuna tartare small morsels, roasted beet salad, followed by entrees of Chilean sea bass and Red Snapper. Incredible! The creme de la creme was the praline pecan cake dessert adorned with a delectable scoop of chocolate almond ice cream. This place is 5 plus stars!
Last night my daughter created a surprise birthday party for me at Tchefuncte’s Restaurant! From the moment I walked in the front door, I felt the energy and vibe of this restaurant to be very positive, pleasant, and wonderfully elegant! Every person there- the hostess, the wait staff, the bartenders, the manager - everyone who works there smiled at me and looked happy to be there!! My ‘experience’ rates a +10/10!!! The restaurant is breathtakingly gorgeous, the atmosphere is incredibly inviting, sophisticated and beautiful. The wait staff is over-the-top incredible! Our server Nicole was hands-down the best server I have ever experienced! When we arrived she took us into the beautiful River Room which offered our party privacy while still feeling very connected to the atmosphere of the entire restaurant. She then took us outside on the patio overlooking the river and took photos of our entire group (because she heard me say I wanted photos with everyone)! She, and her team, was very attentive, patient, and kind and went over and above what a server would be expected to do! The cocktail menu is very creative and there are so many wonderful choices, there were even items the bar created for us that were not on the menu to accommodate sugar-free choices! The presentation of the cocktails was so beautiful and fun! The bartender nailed every little detail! We had complete white glove service from this First Class wait staff, and Nicole was there with everything that we needed in the most attentive and impactful manner! Each time the wait staff brought in food it was so powerful and wonderfully orchestrated, like a beautiful dance!! The food was absolutely astounding!! The Chef and his skillful team are very talented and absolutely know what they are doing!! Each dish was very flavorsome, prepared to perfection and presented beautifully on perfectly garnished plates! The kitchen sent gifts of small plates to get us started, then the appetizers came and were so inviting and tasty! I ordered the roasted sea scallops which were incredibly delicious!!! I tasted just about every meal that was on the table - Yellow Fin Tuna, Gulf Snapper, Peking Duck, Wagyu Striploin to name a few! Nicole even found a way to get my three-year-old grandson chicken strips and French fries which are not even on their menu!!! The portions were very generous, without being ‘too much.’ The service was over-the-top absolutely incredible! The desserts were so delicious, the pastry chef is very gifted with the creative and thoughtfulness of each dessert, every one being even more delicious and amazing (and beautiful) than the one I tasted before (and there were so many desserts!!!) They even prepared a special Happy Birthday plated dessert for me that was quite mouthwatering! Every single person in this restaurant made me feel so special and important, my birthday was an absolute remarkable and wonderful experience! Thank you Tchefuncte’s for making me feel so positively extra special for my birthday!!!!!
Great restaurant, food and service. We started the evening in the bar where the drinks were delicious and the service was great. We moved to the dining room and had a great view of the Tchefuncte River and the sunset. The service was great as well as the food. We cannot wait to come back and dine here again.
It was everything I was hoping for in an anniversary dinner. The place was elegant. The service was fantastic. The food was incredible. And most of all, it was not rushed. The last 2 anniversary dinners in this area of town were only okay and, in one instance, rushed. At one place we were in and out in under 60 minutes. Tonight we took 1:45 which was relaxing and appreciated. The bartender knew how to make an Old Fashioned We started with sweet potato ravioli and roasted red pepper soup. Both were satisfying and comforting. Then we had prime rib and blackened grouper. Both dishes looked great and tasted better. Dessert consisted of the largest piece of doberge cake you can image. I laughed out loud for 2 minutes. Even the coffee hit the spot. This was the best restaurant experience we've had in our 4 years living in this area. We will be back.
I had my birthday dinner there last night. I cannot describe how wonderful this place is. The ambiance. The decor. The service. We were greeted with wonderful signature cocktails at the bar and then seated promptly at our table overlooking the river. Our server, Bailey, was the most extraordinary and knowledgeable server, I as an experienced diner and former server myself has ever encountered. The food has spoiled me for any other restaurant in the country. We had the carpaccio with the fried oysters that were mouth-watering. The Delmonico steak with brown butter gnocchi and sauteed gourmet mushrooms and onions were just wonderfully full of flavor. The demi-gloss was incredible. As the birthday girl I had the crab cake which was more like a perfect cup of beautiful fresh lump crab meat. And because I could not decide between the scallops and the crab cake they actually let me do scallops and crab cake. And it ended with their strawberry shortcake which is unlike anything I've ever had! And to end the digestivo apertif was incredible. Thank you and we will be back.
Started with the meatballs, top 2 I’ve ever had. Made of pork veal and beef. Crab beignets my wife had perfectly fried and great flavor. Short ribs were melt in your mouth, french onion soup, a little salty but good. Stick praline cake with homemade butter pecan icing best dessert I think I’ve ever tasted. Surprisingly beat LOLA for best dessert. Strawberry shortcake a bit basic but excellent for something light. We went for our anniversary really shocked they never did anything for us like GW Fins did in the past or other fine dining. Excellent service though will return.
We went to Tchefuncte's to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and sat at the Chef's Table. And they definitely made the evening special. The service was impeccable, knowledgeable and helpful. They allowed us to set the pace of the evening which permitted us to thoroughly enjoy the ambiance, the people and most of all the food. The food was a culinary adventure through all the courses. Chef Michael and his staff presented a culinary experience that rivals that of a 5 star restaurant. We'll definitely be back!!
Hands down the best thing to arrive on the Northshore!! Well thought through and wonderful display of perfection. The decor the ambiance, the food, the drinks, the wine list are all pure perfection. They have been able to take a large restaurant, fill it with people and maintain a soft level of noise so you can easily talk to each other. The bar is lovely and large and the drinks are interesting. The menu is creative and the combination of flavors spectacular. The crab cake was the best I have ever had and those are my favorite. The wine list is interesting and it is surprisingly well represented of regions of the world with small production. Service is superior and attentive as well as very friendly. My only warning is that you will over eat - so you have been warned!!! Desserts are beautiful so save room. They have a couple of private rooms for larger parties. Parking is easy in a private lot. It is pricey, but honestly one of the few that is a culinary experience and worth every penny!!!
We ate here for an early dinner on a Friday evening. Overall, our dinner was exquisite. The service was excellent, and all of the flavors were top-notch. We tried a number of selections from the menu include the scallops and miso sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection and tasted fresh and delicious. The highlight for me, though, were the crab cake and crab ravioli. The crab cake had to be the best I’ve ever had. The ravioli had an interesting sauce that complemented the dish well. The restaurant has a well-curated wine selection. After the meal, I spoke with a person who I assume was leading action on the floor - he seemed genuinely nice and interested in how we perceived our dinner experience. The food was not inexpensive, but considering the flavors and exceptional service, it made for a wonderful evening.
The interior of the restaurant is upscale contemporary, beautiful, and clean. Food is extraordinarily delicious and generous portions. Every part of each meal forms a perfect whole. Wait staffs are excellent, especially Bailey. Being able to perfectly describe what each meal was like. We'd definitely come back.
It was our wedding anniversary & my 65th birthday, we decided to stay local and usually drive to New Orleans for special dinners. Tchefuncte’s was a delightful surprise. Our server Brandon was amazing and the whole staff was so attentive. We asked Brandon to give us wine pairing with each course, he did an excellent job. Everything we ate was delicious. We had the pork belly, turtle soup, surf & turf tartar. The chef sent out a wonderful little birthday dessert. If you want a five star dining experience this is definitely the place to go. Everything was PERFECT !
Last night my husband and i had an incredible experience here. We ordered the crab cake and a wedge salad as our appetizers, my husband ordered the Hawaiian ribeye as his main and for mine, the filet. We aren’t the type of people to complain, but the our server Patrick noticed our steaks weren’t cooked to the correct temperature. They went above and beyond to resolve that. We received our sides when we got our original steaks. After getting our new steaks, they replaced our sides so we would have fresh, hot sides to eat with our dinner. Patrick was incredible, everyone we dealt with was amazing. We will definitely return. Thank y’all so much for a great experience and meal!
Wife and I came for my birthday dinner, and it was our first time dining here. Had no idea just how nice this restaurant is along with fantastic views of the river. Marcus, one of the managers, noticed us checking out the private room as we were waiting to be seated, and he proceeded to give us a quick tour and then sat us at our table. Made us feel very welcome Tremendous service by the 2 Brandons. All the wait staff are dressed sharp and very attentive. Food was fantastic. Wife had the Lobster Gnocchi and I had the Seabass. Both delicious and sublime. For apps had the crispy pork with fried oysters on top. Wonderful meal and experience. One of the nicest fine dining experiences we have ever had living over here for 20 years. We will definitely be coming back for more special occasions.
Tchefuncte’s Madisonville is a true fine dining destination on the Northshore. From the moment you arrive, the waterfront setting sets the tone—elegant yet relaxed. The food is consistently excellent, featuring fresh seafood and nice steaks thoughtfully executed. The service is attentive, polished, and professional without feeling formal. The atmosphere makes it an ideal choice for both special occasions and memorable evenings out. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an elevated dining experience on the Northshore.
Great jazz band played as we ate.
Came here for my birthday brunch with a big party and they were very accommodating. The food and service were amazing and everyone was so nice. I will definitely be back!
This restaurant is outstanding. each time I come I am impressed with not only the service but the quality of food. Last night I had the veal and it was delicious. My friend had the Hawaiian steak and said it was incredible. The view on the river is beautiful. I will definitely be back
Atmosphere was great at The Anchor Bar with awesome water views and perfect music. Seating and food delivery took a while, but this gets a pass being new, coronavirus restrictions, etc. Food was tasty and servers were friendly. We came by boat and it's great place dock up after a day on the water. It will be a good venue to watch football in the fall.
I just want to say that’s to everyone. Gabriel and Ethan, thank you. Y’all made us feel very welcome. To those who prepared the food… masters of their craft. The food and experience were amazing. And to the mixologist… you rock!
Upscale restaurant with views of the water. Tastefully decorated with a nice ambiance. Huge bar to go and have drinks with friends or if you are waiting for a table. Bar service and table service are always impeccable. Sometimes I wish they had more variety/rotating specials, but the food they offer is consistently good. There is also a private glass room that overlooks the water that is always booked for larger parties.
After a trying week at work, I wanted to go to a relaxing happy hour. Is there such a thing? Yes there is or at least just sitting in an air conditioned restaurant with the view of the river makes it feel relaxing. There was a decent selection of drinks and we went for the Old fashioned & Paloma. Very well made for being part of a happy hour. The crab beignets were a big surprise because I was expecting dough to be the major component but it was crab. The beignets were light and not heavy. Now one thing not on the happy hour menu is the crab cake. Another surprise, light and no fillers. You taste the crab meat. Now as much as I'd like to be here every week I can't since your bill can add up quickly but it's worth a visit
Quite a surprise! It was a beautiful day crossing the causeway to the North shore. This restaurant is right on the water with a beautiful view. The restaurant itself is elegantly appointed and visually stunning. The food was as good as any of the high end dining restaurants in New Orleans. Appetizers were large enough to split. We had the BBQ shrimp, which were peeled and in a rich sauce. There were chive biscuits which were so good, flaky and buttery. We then had the shrimp pesto gnocchi. Not too heavy, but well seasoned and delicious. At this point, after having seen the massive dessert go by we had to forgo an entree and settle on the dessert. That was an upside down caramel pecan crunch cake with homemade ice cream. Can't say enough about how good this was. Made a reservation for dinner, since they serve prime rib and a good piece of prime rib is almost non-existent in the city. Keeping my fingers crossed!
There is no way to adequately describe our dining experience at this wonderful restaurant. From the extremely polite and gracious waiter to the unbelievable blackened Redfish with Tasso cream sauce and the Cauliflower and Brie Bisque, not one experience was disappointing. This was our first visit, but it definitely will not be our last. Everything was exquisite and memorable!!!!!!!!
My wife and I had brunch and it was a fantastic experience. Bill and Curtis did an excellent job taking care of us. The food (stone crab claws, salads, and lobster sardou) was prepared perfectly, so shout out to the back of house. We will be back soon.
We celebrated our anniversary along with family for a total of 8 people. The food was very good, awesome ambiance and the service was friendly, polite and accommodating.
Service was great! We went here for my grandsons birthday! The band sang "happy birthday ". Our waitress was amazing! I can not remember her name. She was on point with all her service.
Walk into the sumptuous atmosphere of the Tchefuncte Restaurant and your expectations soar. Thankfully I was not disappointed! I grabbed a seat at the gorgeous bar for a beautiful river view! The service was impeccable! The bar staff did an excellent job of keeping me taken care of and then.......the Chilean Sea Bass!!! My favorite and yet, it was prepared better than any! Perfectly cooked and not hidden under heavy sauces, etc.....the perfect accoutrements to enhance the delicious flavor! were plated in perfect proportion. When my dessert was going to take a bit longer to prepare, the manager suddenly appeared and offered to make it complimentary to send home! The service, the food, the view, the atmosphere.....a 5 star review well deserved! Bravo, Tchefuncte!
I don’t normally leave reviews, but this place left an impression. The food was cooked perfectly. Everything was out timely. The service was top tier. The staff was extremely welcoming, efficient, and paid attention to the details. The layout was notable as well. I will definitely return.
Wonderful experience. Extensive menu! Appetizers and salad were amazing! We all ended up getting different cuts of beef but they were all perfectly prepared. I got the Australian Wagyu hanger steak…. Melts in your mouth! The service was excellent. Gabriel and Emma (?) we’re attentive and professional. Gabriel knows that menu so well and made sure our requests were taken care of. This is my new favorite restaurant. Ask to be seated in Gabriel’s section.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Tchefuncte's Restaurant in August 2024 and we were absolutely over the moon happy with the dinner! The staff was absolutely incredible. Very kind and attentive and really fun too! The food was out of this world good. My husband is a chef so it's hard to impress him but even he was impressed! And the atmosphere was lovely. I believe we were in the river room? We had access to the outside balcony that overlooked the river with stunning views all around. It fit our group of 50(ish?) people perfectly. And they worked with us so well leading up to the dinner to get our seating arrangements just right, after they changed a few times, last minute. We received incredible service and they gave us incredible memories of the night before our wedding and we are so grateful for that! Thank you so much !
Some of the best food, drinks and service on the north shore if not the best. Always consistent.
My wife, my daughter and I had the absolute pleasure of sitting at the Chef’s table where we got to watch Chef Dan and Chef Chris absolutely rock the kitchen! Curtis and Ruth were taking care of us and let me tell you…. They were fantastic! Some of the best food I’ve had and I have been around the globe! The Chefs even took time to have good conversation with us and genuinely seemed happy to serve us! We will absolutely be back and please do yourselves a favor and dine with them! You won’t regret it! Thank you Tchefuncte’s Restaurant!
Wonderful dining we had Sunday Brunch and the Redfish was fantastic !! Service was great and we will absolutely be going back !!
The food was divine, the service was top notch, and the environment was chic and moody. We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, beet salad, redfish, and tuna. I wish we both had gotten the redfish - it was that good. Dessert was just as fabulous, with our selections being the gingerbread soufflé and sticky pudding. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Would give six stars if I could. The setting is longtime spectacular. But the rebuild that they've maintained for three years is truly remarkable. The facilities are well maintained and the rooms week sorted with fresh flowers each table despite a relatively slow lunch. And this is the low point of this review! The server was beyond knowledgeable, clearly understanding food and what they're presenting. The people making the food love what they're doing, making the best of great seasonal ingredients along with excellent understanding of what they're doing. Why no one has ever made boudain fried rice is unfathomable. And then they deliver. Hot food on time simultaneously to our medically complicated table. Beyond fantastic. Lovely experience will be back with love
Where do I begin? What an awesome experience we had at Tchefuncte’s Saturday night. Not only was the food and ambiance off the charts, but the service was IMPECCABLE!!!!! To my knowledge, not one person had to worry about their glass going empty; the steaks were prepared and served exactly as ordered…….I just don’t have adequate adjectives to describe the night as a whole…….and that lemon cake was gorgeous and tasted even better AND that warm, sticky praline cake dessert was TO DIE FOR! Anyway, for as long as I’ve been putting together our annual Christmas dinner I must confess, proudly I might add, that the overall experience at Tchefuncte’s was by far the best that I’ve experienced! AND, in true New Orleans fashion, you greeted me with a warm hug like we were old friends!! Thank you so much and I wish you, your staff and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Went for brunch. Great cocktail list & spirit selection. We loved The Meringue drink. We split the pork belly cinnamon roll—very unique and tasty. My fiancé had the redfish with lemon butter and I had the steak and eggs. The asparagus was the best we have ever had. Also loved the Trinity Hash. They are allergy friendly. Phenomenal service and great atmosphere.
The experience here was top tier! The ambiance was beautiful. The table arrangements were very intimate. The service was amazing, the staff was very polite and kind! Food was really good, a little bit of everything on the menu! Great spot for special occasions!
Food was quite delicious. Service was on point. Beautiful view of the water.
The Pork Belly Cinnamon Roll 🤤 was so good that I could have ordered 2 and just let that be my meal. Luckily, I wasn't expecting to be that delighted, or else I would have denied myself by what impressed me beyond any steak I have ever ordered. That is not to say it was the best steak that I have ever eaten, but never before have I been so astounded by hanger steak. I have to apologize for not having the perfect words to describe the lightest softest beef I may have ever had in my mouth. I had to insist upon taking small bites to make each one last longer. It truly stole the whole show for me. You know how Turkey is the star of Thanksgiving Dinner until you get the perfect piece of prime rib with just the most excellent flavor from a small piece of fat and the perfect salt flavor already there and just waiting to throw your taste buds into extacy? Well, yes, that was how good my meal was. I left being in my happy place and eagerly looking forward to returning.
We had a wonderful meal here during the christmas holidays. A beautiful bar, nice cocktails, outstanding service and delicious food. Very impressive and a great experience. Highly recommended !
I’ve been to Tchefuncte’s a few times, and overall it’s always been a nice experience. The service has consistently been great and the atmosphere is beautiful, especially with the river view. The food has been good, and everything feels polished and comfortable. They clearly put effort into creating a refined dining experience, and they deserve a good rating for that.
Best dining experience ever. Gage and Anissa gave great recommendations and we enjoyed everything brought to the table. Cannot wait to eat here again!
Went here with my family. The views of the river are beautiful from the patio or their windowed rooms. The service was first class. The waiters are polite and professional and the pacing was perfect. The menu is accessible but offers variety. I got the seabass and it was incredible. We also enjoyed the chocolate soufflé. Their cocktail selection was varied with unique takes on classic drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and I would go back.
If you did not rate this 5 star, you have not been here. I was blown away by this hidden gem. Landon was the best waiter ever, the food was simply perfection. Atmosphere/music completed the trifecta. Even if it is an hour drive, it is worth it!!! I cannot honestly say this my new favorite restaurant.
Wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. Our servers,Gabriel and Ruth were attentive without being intrusive. The food and drinks were delicious. We had three appetizers, all were great. For our main course, we had the prime rib and soft shell crab. Both were off menu specials for the night. The manager,Marcus, was very friendly and professional.
Lovely place, our small group had a private room. Very comfortable. Food was good but everyone was really thrilled with the Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake and the dessert that had the sticky bun with butter pecan ice cream.
we were celebrating a special occasion and had been to this restaurant a couple of years ago so decided to come back. the restaurant is beautiful both inside and out. it has a nice ambiance and beautiful vistas of the river. for starters we got the burrata and complimentary parker rolls were also provided. we also received ceviche compliments of the chef. the parker rolls were good, a bit sweet but nice. the burrata was good with nice flavor. we also got the gumbo, the french onion soup and chopped salad. the gumbo was good with good flavor and good chunks of seafood; it did come with potato salad instead of rice which was odd. the chopped salad was not good but the french onion soup was plentiful and very good. for the mains we got lasagna, the lent special redfish, carrots, creamed spinach, and another fish dish. the lasagna was good, the fish dish also good and the creamed spinach was good. the carrots were cooked well but bland and the lent special redfish also lacked flavor. for dessert we got the coffee and chicory creme brûlée which came with beignets on top. we asked for the beignets on the side and the dessert tasted better if you put the crème brûlée as a dip for beignets. overall, beautiful location and decent food. the service seemed a bit rushed as they were waiting for you to finish the first course to bring out the second and sometimes would hover when you are still eating. some dishes were a bit bland but others fantastic
Always love the feel of this restaurant. Hadn't been in a while and decided to go for cocktails and apps. Cocktails where great. The salmon app was delicious but the Tuna tartar was not. It was not that chopped fresh tuna that you would expect. It had a mushy gel texture with some skinny stem thing in it that I could not identify. We decided to have dessert. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. Two out of three ain't bad. Would definitely recommend and go back. I just wouldn't order the tuna app.
Unassuming building by the water. You go upstairs to be met by a very pretty and open dining and bar space. We sat at the bar and had good views of the water. Service was good. Food was solid. We had the pork belly and each had a steak. Well made cocktails.
This review is based on the price of the food and what I would expect because of that. The food was good but that’s it, just good. The tables are so close together that it’s hard to have a private conversation. The waitstaff was wonderful and the ambiance great, but I was expecting much better-tasting dishes.
The entrees (fillet and ribeye) were AMAZING! The sides were average at best . The dessert ( warm sticky praline cake)was the star of the evening. Warm and the right balance of sweet. The butter pecan ice cream pairing was excellent
I had really high expectations for dinner tonight, but was unfortunately let down. My husband ordered the old fashion that was subpar; we started with the bbq shrimp appetizer which was decent. For dinner we ordered the Hawaiian ribeye which was the best tasting thing of the night, we added the creamed spinach side which lacked seasoning sadly. We also shared a Caesar salad, that wasn’t the greatest(also not a fan of deli sliced Romain I have to cut up to eat) I ordered the filet 6 oz with the mashed potatoes and of the whole night our biggest upset was the potatoes that I were boxed instant potatoes. So for 240$ we won’t be returning. They were gluten aware tho for those with allergies. I was impressed with that
Went tonight for our 22nd anniversary. Sat at the bar, and had terrible bar service. The bartender never came to ask us what we wanted to order for dinner, even though we had told him earlier we intended to eat dinner at the bar. Never asked us if we wanted another cocktail. After my husband spoke with the manager, we were escorted to a table for dinner and had much better service. Once again, it will take awhile for them to earn more stars. We have had hits and misses at this restaurant.
We had planned on going here for months. Sadly disappointed to say the least. The " hand crafted" cocktails were basically, nothing special. The atmosphere was nice, service ok, large selection of wine, and alcohol. I kept feeling rushed as we went from course to course. The main dish for all of us ( various ones) were not at all the gourmet servings anticipated. I won't be going back as there are far better locations with better presentations for less. I don't mind paying for quality, but I do mind paying a high price for mediocrity. I hope they step up their game. Great location but falls short in the end.
We had a party of (10). Several dishes were heavy on the salt...ALL dishes were ridicoulousy small. Timing of the 'plating' of the food was a bit off. On a Tuesday night with the restaurant 40% full, they had all parties located in one section (VERY NOISY). I have asked around my social circle for recent experience and they all said, "hit or miss". Please self correct as we love your restaurant but not like this. Just canceled our reservations on January 27th. Will wait for reports to improve. Merry Christmas
First the inside is beautiful, upscale dining. My husband and I went for the first time for our anniversary. The food was delicious except we waited an hour after our appetizers to get our food. My recommendation would be ask before you go if there are large parties going on because that is the only reason I can come up with that we waited so long for our dinner. We might give them a 2nd chance haven't decided yet.
Harley was our host person Very attentive and friendly. Food was good, bar service ok, but not very well stocked for mixology. Adirondack chairs were in disrepair. Had to swap out 3 out of 4 and still had a broken one. The water side seating provided great views.
Did not eat at Tchefuncte, we ate at The Anchor, sister restaurant of Tchefuncte. The website for The Anchor had more food options. At the restaurant it was limited to sandwiches, 5 options, Salad, 3 options, appetizers 4 options, sides 4 options, and ice cream sandwich at 8.00 for desert. The prices was high 19.00 for a pistolette roast beef sandwich and fries. The atmosphere was okay, as far as service in and out in 30 minutes. Not a date night venue at the Anchor.
Beautiful interiors, comfortable seating, nice river views, food was disappointing. Appetizers provided were not as ordered and brought to table separately 5 minutes apart, two entrees came out at room temperature, redfish on the half shell was poorly presented. Over 30 minute wait between salad and main course. Expensive and disappointing. Will not return. Dined Saturday 3/11
I was part of a large group for Sunday brunch and I understand that affects the to prepare food. The service and attention by wait staff was fine. The restaurant is beautiful and the atmosphere was perfect for our gathering. Knowing this and having eaten here before my surprise was was the food. Several of us ordered the crab sardou which was surprisingly small I never found the crab meat. The poached egg was cooked fine but had almost no white and was small. It was on top of an artichoke heart which was a little firm and had little flavor. A layer of spinach all on top of a tough English muffin about the size of a silver dollar and tough. The dish could have been improved.
The only great thing about this place is the ambiance and design. It feels like you are in Vegas or New York. You forget you are in Madisonville with the decor. The food is just okay and the service is lacking. Soups came out before out appetizer. My husband ordered a medium well Hawaiian steak. It came out charred and medium rare they took it back and cooked it to temperature, so he had an charred steak. The manager came to apologize as did the two waiters, none of them grabbed any of the empty drinks or folllow up to see if we wanted more. The scallops were just okay. Our waiter had a hard time answering basic questions about the menu. He also kept adjusting his face mask, thus torching his nose about 50 times per interaction. I wish I was over exaggerating. The cocktails were decent, but was disappointed in the wine menu. This was my second time trying it, definitely my last. Not impressed with overpriced average fare and lackluster service. Its ashame because of how beautiful it is.
My three daughters and I recently dined here. The decor is perfect, the view is perfect, the servers were great. Bad news, the food, I was not impressed. Surf and Turf, ehh. Duck , not much flavor. Veal chop, not much flavor. Surf and Turf $65.00. It was missing the lobster tail and was served with two crawfish size pieces of lobster meat from the knuckle and claw. When I asked the waitress about it, she sent a young man over who was supposed to be the manager, he questioned me about the lobster, then he said he would go check with the cook, he came back and said, "well, they said they put it on there. " I assured him there was NO lobster tail on the plate. He finally agreed to get a lobster tail but I was very unhappy with being accused of lying, he was quite inappropriate when a customer is spending $437.00 on a meal. I will not be gong back.
We couldn’t wait to try this place. We were so happy and excited when we finally went. We are bar people and like to sit at the bar. I drink whiskey and my wife drinks wine. We walked in and sat at the bar. They served us water and did not ask us what we wanted to drink. 20 minutes go by without them asking us. Finally I let them know we want drinks. We order drinks and appetizers at the same time because we didn’t know when we would see them again. Appetizers were excellent!! I got the Salmon and she got the beet salad. Wonderful. We are still having trouble getting drinks filled and kinda feel like they are not very attentive to us. We don’t need a lot of attention but we would like to be known that we are here. I ordered the prime rib which was brought out by the chef (I assume) and he didn’t feel very friendly at all. But it was a good meal. Not great but good. My wife had the Paned Veal dish that was extremely bland. We were overall very dissatisfied with our experience here. It just isn’t very welcoming or friendly and the food was not great for the money. Sorry guys. We eat at Gallagher’s two times a week. I think we will stick with them.
I really wanted to like this place. The lobby and restaurant look fabulous. It felt like I was in a NYC restaurant and not in Madisonville. Ordered champagne, wine, appetizers, two entrees. After 20 or so minutes, our server told us that our main entrees would '"be out any minute". A manager came out next to let us know that they no longer had prime rib. Due to miscommunication between servers and kitchen staff, the manager offered us two other steak options. He said he would "honor the prime rib price" though. It was a $4 difference?! Did he think I couldn't afford a $46 steak but a $42 prime rib was manageable? If money was the issue we wouldn't be eating there - we saw the overpriced menu online before we arrived.
My wife and I visited last night for our kid-free date night. While the service and food were okay, we were highly disappointed due to having an issue that went unresolved. We both ordered filets, a few sides, and BBQ shrimp butter on the side (to add a little kick and flavor to the filets.) When was tasted the “butter” it was clearly not the correct sauce (had a strong Worcestershire taste, no spices or seasonings.) There was a Worcestershire glaze sauce available on the menu, so we assumed they just gave us the wrong sauce. We brought it to the server’s attention, but she returned shortly and “educated” us that it was indeed the correct sauce and just has a dark color. She offered to bring a different sauce, but we declined because we just wanted the correct sauce. She took the sauce from the table and brought it to the kitchen. My wife noticed several of the cooks tasting it, and it appeared they knew the taste was off — yet no one came to the table to correct or acknowledge the issue. Later, a manager walked past our table (just passing through) and asked if we needed anything. I told him about the sauce, and he just said he would “get to the bottom of it.” I even let him know we’ve had the BBQ shrimp appetizer there before (and BBQ shrimp many, many times), so we know what the sauce tastes like. No solutions, no quality control, nothing — very disappointing. We immediately asked for our check and left. We chose to spend $200 at a locally-owned upscale restaurant only to be treated with fast food service. We’ve had better experiences and service at Gallagher’s and Keith Young’s.
The atmosphere is second to none in the area, I have had several good experiences here. I’ve also experienced the exact opposite, we went with several friends and everything was going well, one of the best steak tar tar I’ve experienced. When it came to the main course we were all served at different times and when my filet was serve it was well done, ordered medium rare, one bite and I was done, and they failed to serve the sides for several of us. Very disappointed for the second time at this restaurant, they have great potential and should kick it up a bit with their service.
I normally don’t write reviews, but the portion sizes of the food was so ridiculously small that I had to write this…. I went on a Friday afternoon for lunch, ordered chicken and sausage gumbo ($15) with a side of shrimp (also $15). I received three shrimp and a half a cup of gumbo with maybe one piece of sausage and a few hairs of chicken. I actually had to request extra rice because there was only a few pieces of rice in the gumbo. I understand that this is a fancy restaurant with small portions, but I literally had to come home and order a pizza because the portion sizes were that ridiculously small. Also, the food was not great. Shrimp were not seasoned well and the gumbo was mediocre. I felt ripped off by the whole experience.
Side Note: I never leave reviews... much less negative ones, but thought after the meal we had last night, I was compelled to. I feel so let down. For months, I've been watching social media and anticipating the opening of Tchefuncte's. My friends and I enjoy fine dining and craft cocktails weekly and really thought this would be an excellent addition to the Northshore. Last night was our first and sadly last night there. First, if I were rating Tchefuncte's based on decor, atmosphere and design I would have given it a 10. It truly is lovely and sleek - just what you would expect to see. However, the food was unfortunately and literally tasteless. And I'm not talking about one dish... we had 3 starters, salads, soup, pasta, steak, seafood, etc. Either it was tasteless (completely without taste) or it was overly salty (as was the pasta & scallops). One starter was soggy and damp, when it should have been crisp and hot, almost like it was left out for hours and maybe reheated for a quick second. The salads were pretty, but again had very little to no flavor at all. It has been 24 hours and we are all still scratching our heads wondering what the heck happened. We really have been dreaming about this place opening and are all so very let down today. I don't know - maybe it was an off night I keep telling myself, but how off can it be if so much of this large meal was disappointing?
Steak was under par. Chopped salad hard and not tasty . Ordered Hawaiian Ribeye which used to be great and it was sub par - very fatty and chewy. I’m questioning whether it was a Ribeye. I regret eating here. They used hard bread crumbs on asparagus and salad. #foodies
$300 dinner with cocktails. Service was not good. Resturant was practically empty. Took 1.5 hours to get our food which was cold. Why? Kitchen staff standing around playing on their phones.
During the New Year holidays I decided to take my grand daughter to the Tchefunte for dinner having never dined there. Was very impressed with the beautiful atmosphere, and special service however I came away somewhat disappointed with my choice of prime rib, a special for the night. Can't count the number of times I have dined on prime rib and I'm sorry to say that was the worst I have ever been served!! My slice was the butt end of the roast and was hard as a rock. Very disappointing!!
NYE. This was my fourth time dining at this restaurant, and while I’ve said it would be my last before, this time I truly mean it. The set menu for NYE featured a "charred" salad that tasted like lighter fluid. Even though the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded, the service was horrendous. Overall, the food was mediocre at best—and that’s not even counting the inedible salad. Charging $160 per person for poor service and subpar food is unacceptable; the Chef should be ashamed to serve such overpriced garbage. To top off a miserable experience, I was hit with a bout of diarrhea at 3:00 AM. Avoid this place at all costs.
