Assunta's is a cozy Italian restaurant known for its friendly staff, generous portions, and authentic Italian cuisine. Many reviewers rave about the excellent service and delicious food, especially the stuffed shells and red gravy. Some found the fried calamari and artichokes undercooked.

I have been going to Assunta's for my entire life. the food is great and the staff treat you like family. everything is fresh and everything is good. i recommend the gnocchi as an appetizer and the stuffed shells or one of the seafood specials if they have it. the shrimp alfredo is delicious as well.
They were able to accommodate us (party of 9) last minute. Food was great! Great service. Great bread pudding.
Yall! Assunta's has some of the best Italian food I've had. The cozy, quaint atmosphere makes for an amazing date night. The service provided by all staff, is top notch. You will not be disappointed in the food nor the service. Don't believe me, stop by and see what it's about. P.S. don't forget to ask about their family meals.
Great food with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend
Finally tried this place after years driving by it and WOW!! The food is right up there with the very best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. But the prices were more reasonable than those other places. I got crab cakes, chicken Parm and bread pudding, and everything was impeccable. Even the house dressing on the salad blew me away. Service and cozy atmosphere were both great. Don't let the humble outside appearance fool you, this place is world class good, I like it more than sal and Judy's even.
I remembered going to this place as a kid, around 1989 or 1990 or so. And then I was never back for the next few decades, until recently, when I remembered this restaurant, and decided to try it again. And I'm glad I did! I've gone three times this year, and have been extremely happy all three times. I've had chicken parm all three times--I'm not exactly an adventurous girl I know ^_^--and it was cooked to perfection every time! Tender and flavorful and not dry at all! I really should branch out a little bit and try something new next time. Maybe ^_^; The sauce is delicious too, I should add! For dessert, I've gotten the chocolate confusion, a cake-mousse hybrid thing, and it's sooooo good! I kinda' want to try something else, but I just loooove the chocolate confusion so so much! My waitress has been amazing, and despite not having gone that often, clearly remembered me from before. Allowed me to get extra pasta instead of side salad, and even remembered I liked that! Nothing but good things to say about her, friendly and attentive. It's a cozy little building, almost looking more like someone's home from the outside, and has a cozy home-y atmosphere inside. It's a little out of the way, tucked neatly among the trees, but well worth going and enjoying ^_^ Edit: I went on July 14, 2023, and the food is still delicious... mostly. The chocolate confusion is completely different from what it used to be, tough. Rather than a cake-mousse hybrid dessert, it's now an ordinary chocolate cake, and not the greatest chocolate cake either, and it's really disappointing compared to the old chocolate confusion. I really do hope they bring the old chocolate confusion back. Still a restaurant worthy of 5 stars, but wow, do I miss the old chocolate confusion.
I went to Assunta’s at the recommendation of a co-worker from the area. I’m only here for four months on business, so finding good, friendly places to spend my time is important. The food is fantastic, but the staff are simply amazing. I eat at the bar so I can interact with the team - usually three or four women who are wonderful to talk to. I started to feel more like family than a customer, and have found myself going there as much for the social interaction as much as the great Italian food. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I love this place and the team that run the restaurant and set the bar very high for customer service. I will really miss them when I return home to the northwest.
This is place is unbelievably good! The food was outstanding. The service was some of the best service I have ever had! Brittany, our waitress, was so nice and very patient. We ordered based on her recommendations and could not have been happier. I can not believe I had never heard of this place.
The food was amazing, service was amazing. The outside just looks like someone's house, especially with a regular front door. Great restaurant.
Highly recommend! Our first time here we loved it!! Great food and very friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. We will definitely return.
Very good food in a warm atmosphere. A wide selection of pastas, seafood, veal and steak. You can customize the sauce and pasta that you prefer. A beautiful bar to sit and talk with friends. Heather is always there to make sure that you have an enjoyable evening.
We visited for our first time and it was our anniversary. Staff was very nice. Service was prompt. Food was good! Trying to think of the name of the drink I had from the bar... but it was pretty good as well. We'll be back.
Assunta's is consistently good. I adore their walnut encrusted tilapia and homemade alfredo!! Makes me so happy. I also think it's the most romantic restaurant in the area. The ambiance is fantastic and I really love the piano music playing low in the background!!
We stopped in on the way to our air b and b and oh my this Alabama girl didn’t know what to do with her self ! The food is amazing the staff is even better definitely authentic Italian food
A neighborhood restaurant with fantastic food. Easy to drop into without a reservation on the spur of the moment on a weekend night. I’m always amazed that this place isn’t much busier than it is. The only thing that I would improve upon is the ambience with the lighting in the main dinning areas. It’s really bright in there. I’d make home made croutons for the salads and I wouldnt serve cracker packets with resealed butter packets. Home made bread would be a huge plus. But if they corrected those things…. They’d be a serious competitor of S&J’s in Lacombe! Service is amazing too!
I love the food here! We never go out to eat because my husband is such a good cook. We decided to go ahead and try a new place tonight and we are so glad we did. The service was excellent and the food was excellent
I've always door dashed their food, and it's always Superb!! Especially the veal parm and spaghetti! Today I went for the 1st time and the staff was super polite and attentive and took care of me immediately! Whoever the owner is, I applaud you! The lady's at the bar were excellent as well! A dark haired girl name Alexis took care of me and she was awesome!!!! You all will continue to get my business!!
We had a party of 11 to celebrate my parents anniversary and they were spectacular. The wait staff were attentive, the food was delicious and the prices more than reasonable for the quantities you receive. We will be back.
I ordered the lasagna. It was fantastic in my option. The sauce was a little sweeter, which I like and there were several meats in it. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Cozy atmosphere. Can be a romantic outing or somewhere you can take the family. They do have child sized portions and a price that reflects the size.
If you haven’t checked this place out, please do so. The owner and staff are awesome and friendly. Very attentive, and the food is delicious. This place can be romantic, or casual, either way, very intimate! Great place for date night, and great place for work parties, birthdays, retirement parties, holiday parties, anything! Check them out for some great service and delicious food!
Most consistent restaurant ever. They never cease to impress. Atmosphere is romantic and cozy. The waiters, bus staff and bartenders are super friendly and pay attention to detail. Always a fun and family oriented place to dine. Everything on the menu is fantastic. I always recommend a soft shell crab and Heather shells. If you haven’t dined at Assunta’s what are you waiting for? Always remember that restaurants can’t be responsible for takeout when using GrubHub or those type services. I recommend dining in or picking it up yourself. Cheers
You ever walked into a brand new (to you) place and felt immediately at home? That's what it's like walking into Assunta's. It's so cozy and comforting inside. Everyone is friendly and the food is INCREDIBLE! My husband and I walked in with high expectations, given before we moved, our previous hometown Italian place was ran by an Italian immigrant family. We were blown away from the start. Everything tastes so fresh and like so much care is put into everything they do! The marinara is perfect. The crab cakes? Spectacular! The Frutti de Mare? Like Poseidon himself blessed each individual shellfish that kissed the plate. We got tiramisu to try, despite being so full we felt death's embrace, and it was incredible! I cannot recommend this place more! It is perfect!
We were passing through and found this gem. The food was delicious! We had lobster ravioli and meatballs; both were excellent! The house vinaigrette was so good! Brittany was our server and she was so sweet and helpful. Will definitely stop in again.
If you are ate a chain restaurant ordered unlimited soup salad and bread sticks, put the bread sticks down and head over to Assunta’s This place is absolutely delicious. Outside of the restaurant looks like someone’s home and is easy to overlook. If you are in the mood for something with quality ingredients and that extra umph it is this place. I got the special, I can’t remember what it was but it was wet food and after the first bit it immediately set itself apart from other restaurants. It has got a family vibe but maintains a formal element as well. Very pleased with this place. I will be revisiting as often as I can.
I would very highly recommend eating here. We ordered a variety of dishes and all we're above exceptional. The owner and the waitresses are absolutely wonderful and fun to talk with. The best I have found around this area.
The roasted garlic soup was delicious. I had STUFFED shells. The yummy meat stuffed shells were covered with cheese and a red gravy. Finished the night with homemade lemoncello. Excellent attentive service.

A wonderful date night! Food was amazing and service was top notch. Large portions! We will be back!
Our first time eating here and definitely won't be our last. Food was fantastic and staff was very friendly
Always a great meal here! Staff is above and beyond friendly and accommodating. Great food and drink specials, but the regular menu is always solid as well. Caesar salad was fresh with just the right dressing and the bread was hot and crispy. My sugar cookie white Russian was the perfect ending to the meal. They might be a little off the beaten track for some folks, but it's worth it for wonderful food and excellent service!
Everything we had was delicious. The portions are huge so I had lunch for two days after from my one entree. We had the spinach artichoke dip as well which was tasty!
Went looking for Italian as part of my pre thanksgiving behavior and found this gem. Everything was spot on from the red gravy on the chicken parm to the tender veal, all takeout. Value, price, taste - it’s a great choice. Can’t wait to dine in.

Nice little place tucked away from the busy city. Warm and inviting, staff was excellent. Some of the best Italian food I've had in a very long time. Usually avoid Italian restaurants because I'm used to getting olive garden type food. This was far from it! Will go back.
Started off with the crab cakes (9/10). They were very good however lacked it crab flavor. More bread and sause than anything but still a very nice flavor. The salads were as advertised, nothing the really write about there. For an entrée, I ordered the lasagna (7/10). The only flavor I could pick up was the marinara with the other ingredients providing more texture than flavor. My wife had the chicken parm (9/10). Pasta and chicken was cooked perfectly with the only complaint was the sauce being alittle too runny. Finally, for dessert, I ordered the tiramisu (10/10). The bold expresso flavor was absolutely delicious and paired with the creamy texture made it a prefect end. The wife ordered the chocolate confusion (10/10). The only complaint was it was a tab bit rich but very delicious none the less. Service was up to par and I would be bring visiting family here.
Four of us had a fun night at Assunta's. We don't get to see each other often and none of us had ever eaten here. Allie was our wonderful server who helped us with choices. Everyone enjoyed their salads and entrees. I can't wait to try Heather's stuffed shells. The sauce and stuffing are amazing One in our party raved about that, also the veal was delicious, seafood canoli and scallops. The prices are right and where else can you get a big glass of La Crema for $10 in a restaurant? To be honest tho, the calamari had a white coating so I'm not sure the batter was cooked enough. I've had it darker more times than not. The tiramisu was dry and was more sweet with less of a coffee flavor. The bread was Ok. But all four of us can't wait to go back for more entrees. Heather gives a great historical account of the restaurant.
Food is tasty, but you can get better Italian if you drive to New Orleans. Some reviews disparage the service, but our server was excellent. She went over all specials and kept our drinks full, even though it was obvious we would not have a large check (I was there with my 8-year-old daughter). I also had a coupon for a free appetizer, and she still treated us as any other customers. The employees worked as a team, keeping our drinks filled and delivering our food. Taking 1 star off only because the food falls just short of true old-school Italian. Still, if in Slidell, I would recommend.
Dinner was lovely - my husband has the special pork tenderloin parmigiana & it was fabulous! I had chicken cacciatore & it was good but not great. The toasted ravioli appetizer was devine.
Great food, we shared the crab claws and fried ravioli, nice adult beverage and great conversation. Definitely one of our go to places.

Entre' was ok but house salad was less than plain. Iceberg lettuce and a single tiny tomato. I don't recommend. Pasta was bland and watery. Prices were too high for what you receive, imo.
The staff was very friendly and the high note for the visit. Unfortunately, the ambiance is lacking and noise levels are not conducive for conversation between two people. The food was mediocre and slightly disappointing for the price point. Would not be a restaurant I would choose, but would return to if another person desired to do so.
We came here for my wife's birthday. Everyone was friendly and the place felt very inviting and comfortable. The best item we ordered was the appetizer, which was fried ravioli with lobster bits (a little overpriced). The food was really the main disappointment here. I should have realized this would be the case when I was served instant lemonade. I don't remember exactly what dishes we ordered, but I had some kind of seafood stuffing wrapped in pasta and my wife had a pork tenderloin which was the special that day. None of the flavors really stood out and none of was all that impressive. I couldn't tell what part of my dish was a crawfish, which was lobster, or which was shrimp. Very overpriced. I suppose it would be nice home cooking for some relatives. I don't drink, but I suppose if you're into that Assunta's might be a decent place to have some wine. We were dined here on 08/03/2023
I have eating plenty of fine dining & am related to a food broker. With that being said...I hate todo this but they failed miserably compared to the other recent resturants I have been to. I should have said something but I took 2 bites of my dish (chicken w/ bruschetta) and just didn't even eat the rest, the brown sauce in my dish tasted sour I regret not asking the manager or staff to have a small taste to confirm it even is supposed to taste like that. Some of the other ppl at our table also said as well the food that night was lacking quality. The atmosphere, staff & dessert were great no complaints at all.
The waitress didn't know the price of the specials and never went to find out. When I inquired about something, she told me it was on the menu and never answered my questions about it. After she placed our entrees on the table, I started to pray. While I had my head bowed, and I was saying the blessing audibly, she spoke over me to start asking other table guests if they wanted cheese! While my sister was actively eating from her plate, she was asked numerous times if she was done or if she needed her food to be boxed! This happened with her salad and with her entree. I felt they were just going through the motions. It was a special evening out, and the four of us still enjoyed ourselves, but the atmosphere was not hospitable. I felt as if I were an intrusion. The food was pricey, but, thankfully, it was good.
As for the appetizer The fried calamari was rather soft definitely needed to be cooked longer. Also we thought the fried artichokes lacked a little flavor and were under cooked.

This was my first time at this restaurant. People have told me how good the food is and the service. Being in the service industry for the last 50 years, I was really surprised after People told me how wonderful the place was. When I placed my order, I told the girl that I didn’t not want fettuccine as my pasta and she said would you like angel hair pasta I said yes That would be fine.my dinner comes out. It is chicken Parmesan, which I did not order and fettuccine noodles which I did not order. Everybody else in the party‘s food was there and I had to sit there and wait While they made the dish that I ordered in the first place. Should I bring my pasta back out and it’s still the fettuccine noodles. At this point, I just took the noodles and put them in the center of the table and did not eat them. At last my chicken came out and it was tasty. They didn’t really come around to fill up any of the water glasses, but one time. We ordered dessert. The tiramisu was OK. I don’t know if it was the waitress’s first night. Hopefully if I come there again, my experience will be better.

Save your money and go to Joe's off of Oak Harbor. We came here for my wife's birthday and it was such a disappointment. Food was very bland. We got the fried eggplant as our appetizer and it just had no flavor. Our entrees were a little better but nothing impressive. Our expectations were high and my wife had really been wanting to come here unfortunately I don't see us coming back.
I was so excited to try the food here, especially considering how good the italian food in the area is. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed with my party's and my meals. First, our waitress informed us twice that they couldn't fulfill our order. Then, the pasta was over-cooked and mushy. The stuffed jumbo shells were bland. In contrast, the meatballs were so pumped full of garlic that I found it hard to eat. Additionally, the dishes were chipped, and their wine glasses were dirty, which was a stark contrast to the upper-class atmosphere that they were trying for. There was a nice wine selection! Fortunately, our waitress (who was still being trained) was a delight and so kind. Her enthusiasm to ensure our experience was positive pushed my review up a star.
My husband and I tried this place out on our recent date night. The atmosphere and waitresses were the best part. The waitresses were actually wonderful. The food was the opposite. I don't know if it was a one off or not but the red sauce on my lasagna and my husband's spaghetti had a strange taste to it, nothing like anything I have ever eaten nor want to eat again. The meatball tasted like I ate a spoonful of italian seasoning. My husband attempted to eat a few bites of his food as to not offend the staff, I couldn't choke mine down. When asked if we wanted to go boxes we politely declined but the waitresses boxed up the food anyways. We were very disappointed to pay so much for a meal we could not eat.
It’s been a few years since returning to Assunta’s. Disappointed beginning with the brown romaine lettuce, 1 grape tomato Nd 2 black olive salad to seafood pasta with broken clam shells, rubbery calamari and clams, no oysters, with mostly pasta. We received 3 pieces of soggy buttered bread for two! My husband’s 4 tiny pieces of veal and tasteless fettuccine. Very disappointing for our 47th Anniversary dinner.

After wanting to try this place for a while and after reading the raving reviews, we are super disappointed. We picked food up to go tonight. My boyfriends portion of veal was pitiful for the price. I got shrimp pasta, the pasta was over cooked and gummy. The dish had zero flavor and about 5 shrimp. Even the side salad was skimpy. Needless to say after 50 bucks wasted we won't be back. I couldn't even eat mine due to no flavor.
