A very old restaurant in the center of Madrid that takes you to forgotten times in History, it’s like going back in time. The food is great, the torrijas are to die for, the ambience unique and the service terrific. We were welcomed as we walked in and taken care by a young man with a beard who explained to my wife about the huge cachopo , he was very nice to us and there was also a young short lady who was working at the same speed as him. Both made the restaurant great yesterday.

This place became our “local” when we staying at the UMusic Hotel opposite. Authentic place with a lively atmosphere at the weekend. My wife loved the milk torrijas, a riff on French toast.

To start the review, for the Mexican community, Los callos a la madrileña are very similar to our Menudo. The true local spot that speaks Madrid with their delicious food. The place was funded in 1907, it is the spot for local food. We ordered Callos a la madrileña the dish was amazing, Torrezinos with a potato base that were fantastic and for dessert Tortola de leche, different but delicious. This place deserves to be visited and a higher google ratings.

Few minutes away from the extremely busy and touristic Puerta del Sol, you step into some more Spanish authenticity as soon as you enter this establishment. Still a bit touristic, but you can get a great vermouth with anchovies and olives. Service is fast and friendly, tapas arrived hot. The croquetas are better than the average, the chicken wings are nice but the tortilla is average.

Busy place, but very fast service. We went on a public holiday so the place was packed. Two of us ordered a regular torrija and a torrija with wine, both were very good. Would recommend, especially if you have a sweet tooth.

Torrijas are an Easter treat, but at the namesake Casa de las Torrijas, you can find them all year round. Here, they are beautifully custardy on the inside and crispy on the outside. You can choose between two traditional flavours - milk, which has a close likeness to French toast; and wine, which is a bit like eating the same but soaked in a wine jus, just like you would have with poached pears. As you would expect, they do their name proud here. It's a traditional bar/café ambiance and often a bit hectic. Around Easter, it's packed both to sit in and to go, but if you choose an off-peak time of day wisely (outside the dessert / "merienda" rush), you will find a spot no problem. At just under €4, it's cheaper than most restaurant dessert offerings and worth eloping for 😉

Great place to try Torrijas, a typical sweet made from bread very typical during Easter although in this place you can find them all the year. They also have tapas, vermouth with aperitivo Gila… Very popular so it can be challenging to find a spot for lunch or dinner.

What a place. Love the vibes and decor of it all. Came recommended from our walking tour guide and we could not agree more. We have the set lunch and menu and every taste great and at a fraction of the price. Definitely recommend dropping by here.

My friend recommended me this place and let me tell you, they have amazing torrijas, which they are famous for. I am not used to eating them as a dessert and I never believed they are gonna be this good. I will go back to eat them again, I have tried both with milk and wine I prefer ones with wine but with milk are so fudgy inside and crunchy outside that there is no way you are not gonna like them. People that are working there are friendly and nice.

Tried to go here around lunch time and it was extremely busy so we came back at an off time around 4 pm. At this time there were quite a bit of tables open so we were able to sit quickly. After we ordered 2 Torrijas with milk and my god these were one of the best desserts we've eaten in our lives. It had a nice sugary crunch but on the inside it was nice and gooey. The taste was super flavorful and I could definitely eat a ton of these. Crazy they don't have a lot of well know Torrija places.

The tapas is some of Madrid's finest. We tried a wide spectrum of our usual tapas favourites and none of them disappointed. The boquerones in vinegar and the tortilla were particularly good as were the house's speciality dish torrijas. This place is in a side street we've been walking past for years, a great discovery. A real hole-in-the-wall traditional tapas bar just filled with locals. Be warned, it can fill up very fast. Tip from a friendly local: Once you have a table, go to the bar to request your first order

Cute spot! Had the 3 course menu for 12.90 each which was a great value. I loved the roasted vegetables and goat cheese. One staff member spoke English which was also great for us!

Una experiencia inesperada. Buscando dónde comer unos callos en un entorno castizo, dimos con esta pequeña joyita. Céntrica pero a la vez escondida. Una camarera simpatiquísima y una comida muy buena. Pedimos unos huevos rotos y unos callos. Vino y vermú. Las torrijas son su especialidad.

Mantenemos toda la esencia del siglo XX. Un local con su encanto dando servicio desde 1907. Hacen unas torrijas de leche q no puedes abandonar la capital sin probar una de ellas... están brutales...😜😏 una merecida 3B para LA CASA DE LAS TORRIJAS. Lo disfrutamos mucho.😋 Es una gozada poder contemplar toda la carteleria, fotos, mobiliario, etc... de la época disfrutando una de sus especialidades. Recomendable al 100%

Me recomendaron este sitio para comer la mejor torrija de Madrid. En verdad es un sitio que para estar a 150 metros de la puerta de Sol es muy tranquilo, agradable, con mucha personalidad y antigüedad, te puedes sentar y hablar sin tener que chillar y puedes disfrutar de una magnífica merienda obvervando muy bonitas fotografías antiguas. La torrija es excelente, no le doy la máxima puntuación por que la encontré demasiada blanda, me pareció más casi una crema que no conseguía apreciar la textura del pan, aún así estaba muy buena. Lugar muy recomendable.

Una taberna con mucho encanto en pleno centro de Madrid, de esas que conservan el sabor castizo y tradicional de toda la vida. Lo mejor: sus torrijas, disponibles todo el año, enormes, jugosas y deliciosas, a un precio más que razonable. El ambiente es auténtico, con ese aire antiguo que te transporta a otra época. Un lugar imprescindible si quieres probar lo típico madrileño en su versión más genuina. La torrija de leche exquisita muy buena!

Hemos venido a tomar un vermú. El local mantiene su esencia antigua y lo hace auténtico y genuino. La torrija está buena, quizás no voy a decir que la mejor que he probado, pero está buena. Hemos tomado vermú de grifo y el ambiente es acogedor. Suele haber turistas y demás, pero es un sitio donde volvería sin problemas. Quizás las tapas podrían ser algo mejores, pero no eran malas.

Un clásico para tomar torrijas, de vino o de leche, y/o con helado (vainilla o chocolate), en un local con solera y bonitos azulejos. Típico acompañarlas con vino dulce o vermut. El personal es amable. Aunque es pequeño y suele haber gente, hay mucha rotación.

Fui a este lugar ya que quería probar las torrijas por primera vez y me lo recomendaron, no me decepcionó! Me encantó su torrija clásica, pedimos para llevar y la comimos en la plaza del frente ya que el lugar se llena bastante y más en esta fecha siendo un postre tradicional de semana santa, la atención fue bastante rápida a pesar de estar tan llenos

First time trying Torrijas and this was the perfect place to do it. The dessert is very tasty and authentic. However, it is very filling! Definitely worth sharing with a friend rather than eating it alone. Great traditional vibe.

Attractive traditional restaurant with a good value weekday lunch menu at 13.90€ with a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains, dessert and a drink. We enjoyed our salad with peppers and tuna followed by fried eggs with 'morcilla' (Spanish black pudding). Sadly the menu did not include a 'torrija' (Spanish-style French toast) for dessert, so we´ll have to go back!

We came here as part of a tapas tour. We got the fried potatoes with eggs on top. Can’t remember the name and the dessert. It was bread soaked in milk. Absolutely delicious. Loved it. It tastes so much better than how it looks! Also, this place has been here more than 100 years!

Just ok, nothing worthy of repeating. Not bad neither, just ok. They warmed up the torrija in the microwave, it was soggy and a bit bland 😮‍💨. I've eaten torrijas in the past in different places and they're crunchy in the outside, creamy in the inside... here nope. Non of that. 😞

Traditional bar in the very centre of the city, celebrated for their torrijas and probably great for drinking as well. We went for more dinnery areas of their menu and not everything was spectacular, including the quite long wait and difficulty finding the interest of the staff. But after all we left full for not much, in the very center, so it ended well.

La experiencia fue bastante decepcionante. Desde el primer momento la sensación fue que nuestra presencia incomodaba. La camarera se mostró poco atenta y, tras cometer un error en el pedido por pura desgana, intentó convencernos de quedarnos con un plato que no habíamos solicitado. El rabo de toro llegó a la mesa con una cocción insuficiente, el pan servido estaba duro y claramente de varios días atrás. Lo único que se salva de la visita son las torrijas, que sí estaban buenas.

Sinceramente y sin ánimo de ofender tenéis que revisar un poco lo que sale de cocina. Probamos las tajadas de bacalao y el entrecot con patatas y creo que es la peor comida que tuve en años. El bacalao parecía que lo habían freído y recalentado al microondas. Un rebozado gomoso, aceitoso y despegado a la carne por dentro. La carne estaba mal cocida y con sabor abombado. Como cuando la carne no esta fresca. Y lo que confirmó todo el desgano y desamor fueron las patatas fritas. No es que no estaban buenas o malas. Estaban malísimas. Como cuando te quedan 3 días en la nevera de un delivery y las recalientas al horno. Secas, acartonadas y duras. Una pena que un sitio histórico que lleva más de 100 años se limite de esa manera pudiendo tener una oferta más honesta para la gente de Madrid. Un claro turístico trap. Los chicos del salón nos atendieron bien.
