Very Quiet and calming environment, the building itself has wonderful interior design which suits the theme of Alice In Wonderland to a great degree. The waiter was very polite and welcoming and took our orders swiftly. Very well priced and a friendly environment no doubt, would visit again

Best scones we had this year. The creamy light butter + jam was excellent. Booking is required, as this place gets very busy.

I took my partner for his birthday… we got absolutely exceptional service from waiter Tim! He even gave us a cake with candles in for our celebration. He made some top recommendations whilst we were ordering food and tea and genuinely made our day so special. The quality of food is 12/10 and the atmosphere and decor are very special. I am so sad this is only the first time I have visited here! I will be bringing all my family and friends soon!

The Richmond Tea Rooms made our celebration even more special for us by lots of little touches and excellent service. We had the queen's tea and the vegetarian tea also. Everyone was very happy. Large portions not everyone finished but we were given takeaway boxes in beautiful bags.

I recently booked The Mad Hatters’ late-night adult tea party, which included live entertainment, participating party games, and the option to win prizes. I was fortunate enough to win a complimentary mint shot, while my friend won a £20 voucher to enjoy at the tea rooms. The magical tea room is themed around Alice’s adventures in Wonderland throughout the building, transporting you to a storybook world. The tables are adorned with treasure rows of China crockery and tablecloths, serving homemade cakes, finger sandwiches, delectable scones, and gorgeous cocktails and mocktails. It was a feast for the eyes and taste buds. During the party, we had the chance to meet the Mad Hatter and his quirky friends, including Alice and the White Rabbit, who kept us entertained all night. The staff and performers were incredibly friendly and welcoming, ensuring that our evening was filled with unforgettable moments. I highly recommend Richmond Tea Rooms for a truly unforgettable night out. I can’t wait to return and relive all the magic again – the evening flew by! The Richmond Tea Rooms are conveniently located near the vibrant Canal Street, shops and bars in the heart of Manchester City Centre, making it the perfect spot for a fun-filled night out.

Mad Hatters Tea Party. What a fun evening; perfect for two or groups. Beautiful decor and decoration. Lovely food but it was the hosts that made the night. Just the right amount of sarcasm and innuendos. We laughed and laughed! Could have done without Snow Whites extra bit.. didn’t seem in keeping BUT what a fun evening. The cat was hilarious. Will definitely return!!!

We were looking for tasty scones. We found delicious ones! The perfect place for your afternoon tea. The Alice in Wonderland ambient is cute, not kitschy at all. The staff is very polite and friendly. A stop worth.

Magical, very British tea time experience in a beautifully decorated environment. What a lovely place we came across accidently on our walk! We had time till our bus departure and this was just the perfect spot to stop. Staff members are helpful and really friendly.

What a lovely interior this place has. We had the Hatters afternoon tea - it was tasty and the just about the right amount of food - you have a nice selection of teas as well as a decaf option. They even serve brunch too like smashed avocado, eggs and salmon etc. The staff are fabulous and really went out of their way to find space for me when I needed to come in earlier. I live in Liverpool but will be coming back again to try the brunch and more afternoon tea. My mum loved the place too - she said it felt magical!

We had a truly wonderful afternoon at Richmond Tea Rooms! The atmosphere is always charming, but our waiter, Tim, really took the experience to the next level. He was incredibly knowledgeable and suggested the Blue Lady tea, which was so delicious I actually ended up buying a package to take home! We also enjoyed the Alice Tea, a refreshing Green Mint tea, and a perfectly smoky Lapsang Souchong. The carrot cake was the cherry on top—moist and flavourful. If you go, ask for Tim; he knows the menu inside out and provides top-tier service. I’ll definitely be back for more Blue Lady tea soon!! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Simply stunning! Visited here after a spa day with my best friend, celebrating her birthday. The decor and food were both 10/10 Everything was so beautiful and the decor honestly was just perfect. We got the queens afternoon tea and of course choose English breakfast tea. Will 1000% be coming back here. Loved every minute

Sitting down for a classic British afternoon tea, I soak in the cozy atmosphere. A rich chocolate cake pairs perfectly with my coffee, making for a delightful treat. The staff are welcoming, and the warm, charming setting adds to the experience. A lovely way to spend my last afternoon in the UK.

All their afternoon teas, except for the tweedles, can be requested vegan. We had the hatters and the queens: great portions and tasty food, especially the vegan scone. It is a bit too pricey but it is perfect for a special occasion. Nice staff and lovely atmosphere.

I try my best to come here every time I visit Manchester and I'll tell you why: it's simply one of the best tearooms I've ever been to. All of the staff are lovely and friendly. The food and drink never disappoints. Truly impeccable. Max served us today and was super kind and eager to help. He does a marvellous iced tea brew! Definitely ask him about it if you are served by Max! I cannot wait to visit again. If I lived locally I'm sure it would become my weekly haunt!

Richmond Tea Rooms is my absolute go-to spot for afternoon tea — not just for its central location, but for its charming atmosphere and consistently delicious food. It’s a popular place and can get quite busy, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, which is exactly what we did. As we had someone with coeliac at the table, we ordered one gluten-free Queen’s Afternoon Tea, and for myself, the Alice Afternoon Tea (not gluten-free). We were genuinely impressed by everything we tried, but the scones were without a doubt the real highlight and the one we found ourselves missing the most afterwards. Having tasted both the regular and gluten-free versions, I can confidently say that both were excellent. Another lovely touch is that the teapots come with a one-time refill, which makes the whole experience feel even more generous and relaxed. The venue itself has such an authentic and immersive atmosphere. The staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. A huge thank you to the entire team. I’m already counting down the days until my next visit.

It was a place I always said I must visit whenever I passed by. I think it's the best place that reflects both the friendly staff and the British culture of tea and brunch. I'm very grateful for this lovely experience and I definitely recommend you go!

Always a fab time at the tea rooms from Afternoon tea to Christmas meals the food is always divine and the staff are beyond helpful. Set in a beautiful Alice In Wonderland fantasy theme, the decor is stunning, the toilets are spotless and the cake choice is unreal. Nice touches and the Christmas meals are huge and flavourful, home made giant yorkies to crispy parsnip shavings. Even GF and V choices. We all had a fabulous night here. Thank you so much wish I had taken more pics but was having too much of a nice time xx

WOW! and WOW! What a gorgeous place! My daughter gave me a voucher for the Queens Tea. Was stunning inside and very quaint and cosy. Service was great from the start when you enter inside. There’s a great selection of food and drinks to order. Opens from the morning so many people were having breakfast whilst others were enjoying desserts or high teas- which there is a lovely selection from. Not too far from Picadilly to walk. Definitely worth a visit whether it’s breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and they even have entertainment by night.

One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester. It has a wide range of teas, as well as gluten free and vegan food available. The decor is fabulous.

After a weekend of partying in Manchester, we wandered into Richmond Tea Rooms and honestly, it felt like stepping straight into Alice in Wonderland! The décor is quirky, whimsical and full of charm — every corner is a photo opportunity. The open steak sandwich was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The Assam tea was rich and fragrant, and the cake… wow! Huge, indulgent slices that taste as good as they look. I even had to take some away for my mom so she didn’t miss out! The real highlight though was the lovely staff — so friendly, welcoming and full of good energy. They made the whole experience feel extra special. If you’re in Manchester and fancy a little escape down the rabbit hole, Richmond Tea Rooms is an absolute must! 🫖🎩🐇

What a lovely afternoon, celebrating my cousin’s 60th birthday. Ordered the queen’s afternoon tea and when it came, one of the cakes had a little candle in it because Tim who took our order noticed it was a birthday celebration. Absolutely amazing service, food was delicious, they even catered for two fussy eaters when it came to the sandwiches. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back. Lovely little tea rooms. Thank you so much xx

Took my mum here for her birthday with my sister and her little one, all the staff were absolutely amazing! So helpful, friendly and went out of their way to look after us! Was greeted by a wonderful gentleman who help my mum get down the stairs, and Adele looked after us at our table, the food was PERFECTION! We had an afternoon tea, the vanilla chai tea was spot on! Thanks for a lovely experience!! ❤️

Discovered Richmond Tea Rooms on the way back to our hotel, popped in next morning on the off chance of a table for breakfast and we were lucky enough to get one. Beautiful place and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive. I had the classic breakfast which was delicious and my friend had the vegan breakfast which she said was the best vegan breakfast she has ever had out anywhere... ever! Would definitely recommend and if ever in Manchester again we will be booking an afternoon tea... the cakes looked amazing and all made in house 😍

Fantastic place for a traditional English afternoon tea with an Alice in Wonderland-inspired atmosphere. The staff was phenomenally friendly and gently helped us clarify the menu and offered great recommendations. I had the Queen's Afternoon Tea and all the food was amazing, especially the scones, which were very fresh and warm. The Afternoon Darjeeling was delicious, with floral and fruity flavors. I strongly recommend this venue and will definitely revisit if I'm in Manchester again.

Happy New Year!!! It’s 2024, finally right? A chance to finally visit Richmond Tea Rooms with my friend came up and I finally crossed it off my “restaurant bucket list”. I am sure I’m not the only one who has one. This was the last place I had on my list for 2023 and I am grateful I was able to go. The perfect way to end 2023. We went for brunch date, ran really late and I was so thankful that the staff still accommodated us! Honestly one of my favourite part was the overall customer service 10/10. We had the American style pancakes from the breakfast menu with teas for drinks. Perfect combo! I loved that we each had our own colourful teapots and I was tempted to grab a set for myself actually- they stock some in store. Alongside a large range of teas including some unique special blends. Honestly the pancakes were delicious. I opted for the more savoury option and took my time to make sure I enjoyed every bite. I 100% recommend it!! I also ordered the smashed avocado on toast and opted for scrambled eggs instead. I later had to ask for a takeout pack as I was too full from the pancakes. I had it later on at home and enjoyed it too. The restaurant also does the prettiest afternoon teas- I am definitely going to make the time for another trip this year just for that. The ambience has the most beauty whimsical feel to it. I felt like Alice in the wonderland and trust me the pictures are nothing compared to the original. In all, if you are looking for a magical escape in the city with amazing treats, creative drinks and tasty meals especially the afternoon tea… make that booking to Richmond Tea Rooms!

Afternoon tea and service fit for a Queen or a King.... Thank you to Ida for her great service, also a lovely touch with the cake and candle for my birthday very memorable. Afternoon tea and the teapot cocktails are really delicious and highly recommended.

Food was delicious, especially the scones. The staff was exceptional. I was, however, surprised that the tea pots didn’t allow you to remove the leaves so your second cup wouldn’t be over steeped. Cute place with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

This place is definitely a treat in Manchester Town. Loving the Alice in Wonderland theme. It is very nicely decorated and I love the old fashioned tea cups and plates. The food is very nice and the cakes too. I ordered an egg mayo sandwich and got a huge slice of chocolate cake, both were very nice. Richmond Tea Rooms were also brilliant in accommodating and understanding our dietary requirements and recommended what we could eat. Although the menu is not halal, there are still options, especially cake 😁 Definitely will be coming back.

Walked past this restaurant a week ago, the fancy decorations at the entrance along with the Alice in the Wonderland theme, already made a remarkable and unforgettable memory, that's why it's only right to come back and try this out with friends today. When we went in there, the beautiful flowers and delicate tableware were eye-catching, felt like experiencing an unique taste of an elegant and quality British afternoon tea, love the whole setting of the restaurant and the delicious popular tea set dishes, got the Lotus tea, it's great and refreshing, to go with the sweets and good looking desserts, scone, sandwiches. Absolutely 💯 an exceptional and attractive restaurant, worth going and hanging out there is fun and chill.

We held our wedding reception here last week and it was absolutely magical. The manager Des and the rest of the team could not have done more to make our night special; the wide range of sweet and savoury food, the atmosphere, the care from the staff it was all perfect. Our guests were so impressed with everything and shocked that the cakes were made in house including our stunning wedding cake which everyone loved. Thank you for helping with all the planning and making an absolutely amazing evening. I would always recommend Richmond Tea Rooms. Not only is it a stunning venue for a relaxed afternoon tea with caring and attentive staff, but the food and drinks are delicious. 5**** & Thanks again to all involved last week x

My wife and I decided to check this place out as it had a good write-up As you approach this impressive old looking building, you start to see the theme of the place, and it runs throughout the building Alice in Wonderland . As you sit down, you are given the menu . For the afternoon tea section, there are 6 different afternoon teas to choose from starting from 42 pounds per person down to 11.50 per person. but of course, the further down you go, the less you get, so there is something for everyone depending on your budget. But of course you don't have to have afternoon tea it does cakes & meals as well . The staff are friendly and welcoming and don't forget to tell them about any dietary requirements or allergies as they are not mind readers but most will ask you . It's on sackville Street in the gay village . It's well worth a visit

Amazing place , Victorian style cozy luxury 😍 Fantastic selection of tea , cakes and light meals👌 We love the delicious double decker cakes 😋 The afternoon tea is good but can be more glamours for the price 😃 Friendly staff and good service 🫶Definitely recommend it 💯

I took Queens' afternoon tea set. The tea was pretty nice and proper flavor. (Be careful to avoid steeping the tea too long). Although everything was along with each, sandwich and dessert were just normal taste. I recommend here for who want to make a good time with company.

Came here for a birthday lunch. It was pleasant enough, but the decor etc wasn't really my sort of thing. The afternoon tea was nice, but I felt a bit on the expensive side. The Assam tea was delicious though and service as good.

I really enjoyed having lunch here. Plenty of teas and giant sweet cakes. We ordered sandwiches and they were so tasty! The restaurant is all decorated and set in the story of Alice in Wonderland.

Such a nice little tea room – cozy and cute. We had the Hatters Afternoon Tea, and most of it was great! The cakes and scones were super tasty. I didn’t love the vegetarian savoury options as much – they were okay, but a bit underwhelming compared to the rest.

Recently visited here, and wow its such a magical place with the theme of the place. We were welcomed by our waiter who was more than accommodating. We enjoyed our main meal and then ordered our puddings. As the pudding were being placed on the table, my friend noticed that a mouse was running across the tea room. The mouse went underneath my friends chair, as you can imagine this was a shock to see this but what was more of a shock was that our waiter witnessed this but did not acknowledge it. After a few minutes the mouse came back out and ran under some chairs. This was witnessed by other customers. Not once did anyone from the staff come over or acknowledge this. We were left very disappointed by the is experience as up to this point we were having such a lovely time.

Coeliacs PLEASE READ!!!!!!!! This was my second time here with a group of friends, we’d booked a table for the festive period. Firstly it took over 30 minutes for our ordered drinks to arrive on the table even though they weren’t particularly busy. Secondly this has taking me a couple of weeks to get this review done as we’ve been away for Christmas. After our meal I decided to order cakes to take home, they have a variety of Gluten free options which I decided to order the Gluten Free Apple crumble Blondie for my husband who is coeliac. Upon finishing eating it he began feeling extremely unwell and knew instantly he’d eaten Gluten. He’d not been out all day so we knew it was the cake, He was instantly vomiting and in extreme pain with stomach cramps in the hours that followed, he has only ever been that bad on a couple of occasions after consuming full on gluten products. We do not keep anything in our house that is not Gluten free for this reason. I did of course phone and message the tea rooms to let them know so they could be aware what had happened, There was no apology given on my first phone call to start with, no sense of care at what had happened. It then took me to call them back again to get any response, to which I’d be told they’d call me back. This was before Christmas, I’ve still not heard a single thing. All we wanted was an apology and maybe a refund for the cake that my husband threw up for hours. And made him extremely unwell for over 2 days in the lead up to Xmas day due to coeliac disease being an autoimmune disease not just an intolerance. I’m extremely concerned and so disappointed at the lack of decency to at least acknowledge and offer a refund for the cake and an apology for the trauma it’s caused to the point he doesn’t ever want to even eat out again. Unless you’ve experienced it you’ve no idea how awful it was for him. We understand mistakes can happen especially in a busy kitchen where normal cakes are made but to not call back is just completely rude not to mention unprofessional. If you’re Gluten free and coeliac don’t risk eating here.!!!

We attended the Richmond Tea Rooms on Saturday 17 January. This had been planned since November. There were six of us and a highly anticipated evening out. The main course meal was fantastic and enjoyed by all. By the time we got to dessert the service was definitely lacking. We had to request menus and then request someone to take our order. Desserts took about 20-30 minutes to arrive. We had just started them when one of our party very calmly said “mouse”. We all looked in that direction as a brown mouse ran across the floor and into an air vent. The mouse was witnessed by other diners and our waiter. The other diners left immediately. A number of the party had severe phobias to mice and asked to swap seats with other party members. However once again our mouse friend very calmly strolled across the floor. He was not intimidated by humans and was obviously a regular in this restaurant. We asked for our bill. Again this did not appear until we put our coats on and stood to leave. There was no acknowledgment from management that there was a mouse issue or an apology that our meal had been ruined. If you are thinking of a “special” evening with friends I would consider whether an evening with mice is what you want. We have complained to the restaurant about their lack of response, who have said they were not aware of the issue. They were. I would not attend Richmond tea rooms again.

Lovely aesthetic lovely Staff but the afternoon tea is very overpriced for the quality and the amount of feed you get in the afternoon. Tea would not recommend it. It’s a lovely place to go for coffee and a cake but not worth the tea
