Sì, ti obbliga a ritornare!!!
Un8co neo i servizi, scomodi. Ma ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo, personale veloce e attento. Una vera osteria in centro storico. Da provare e riprovare!
A small trattoria in the alleys of the city center, it's said that in the past it was a gathering place for Mantua's rough laborers, especially men, who would find refreshment here at sunset and refuel with hearty and generous dishes, comforted not only by the food but also by the warm company of the two cooks: hence the restaurant's name. To this day, I can confirm my assessment of the food: we sampled a super-flavorful risotto alla pilota, delicate pumpkin crêpes, and surprisingly balanced tripe in white sauce. Dishes that reflect the region and tradition, prepared with care and heart. All decidedly delicious. Reservations aren't possible and the location is well-known, so arrive a few minutes before opening to ensure a first-come, first-served seat.
An old, traditional osteria recommended by a travel guide. It's located in a small alley very close to Piazza Sordello, making it very easy to find. They don't take reservations, so we had to wait a few minutes. Excellent value for money, with traditional dishes prepared just like in the old days. The place is truly an old osteria, so expect a bit of noise and sharing a table. Excellent service and friendly staff.
A typical and unique tavern. The menu varies slightly according to the season, but with fixed dishes that never disappoint! You eat on paper placemats at typical tavern tables. - Risotto alla pilota - Pike in salsa - Tripe - Pudding with zabaglione These are dishes not to be missed! Snap your photo against the blackboard at the entrance to get the menu... and don't ask for the pumpkin tortelli. Unfortunately, the restaurant is only open for lunch from Monday to Saturday. MUST TRY, IN FACT, NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!
Authentic, good cuisine, daily menu written with chalk on a board; wonderful people working there and very fair prices. You can get dishes that are less common elsewhere. Don't expect an English menu, but instead expect that people from neighboring table will recommend you what to eat. It was a wonderful cross-table conversation/experience (i was there for lunch). Great, social place. Would go there again if I would stay longer in Mantua.

This cozy restaurant feels like stepping back in time, thanks to its simple and essential decor. The place is very clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. What was nice was that, since I was alone, they sat me at a table with others who were there alone like me. I had lunch here, featuring traditional Mantuan dishes, beautifully cooked and with a refined simplicity. Reservations are not possible, and it's only open for lunch from Monday to Saturday. It's very popular, but the wait is worth it for those who love authentic, healthy cuisine. It will definitely be a regular stop next time I return. I highly recommend it.
A time-honored osteria, complete with a picturesque name and frescoes by GÖR, offers Mantuan food in its purest and most traditional form (note: the food in Mantua is EXCELLENT). Dishes like riso alla pilota, or pike in salsa, are presented as they should be and beautifully presented, without unnecessary frills. The service is courteous, prompt, and efficient, as befits an osteria. The restaurant is right in the center and is the ideal place for lunch to break up a day spent exploring Mantua, as you don't have enough eyes to see all the wonders it is filled with. Be careful about parking: Piazza Sordello and the surrounding area, as well as Piazza Virgiliana, are all blue-lined, pay-and-display zones (even with the most popular apps), and finding parking can be a challenge, especially on busy days (but you'll get there early anyway, because you have Mantua to see). Returning to the restaurant, it's welcoming and authentic. The house red wine is a flawless Merlot that pairs well with the, uh, not exactly dietary Mantuan dishes. The prices are fair, or rather, low for the quality offered. One last detail: it always seems closed, thanks to the lack of large signs and the lack of outdoor lighting. Push the door to the right of the only window, and you'll find yourself inside.
Extraordinary food at a place that embodies what an osteria can (and should) be. They do not take reservations and there's a short wait until you can be seated for lunch. While you wait, you can take a picture of the day's menu written out on a blackboard. We didn't have to wait long, and we shared a communal table with a pair of lunch goers. Gorgeous, simple, seasonal, local dishes made perfectly. The house reds, and in particular, the lambrusco, were a perfect complement to our lunch that included savoury crepes, fettucine with seasonal greens, polenta and local fish. Desserts featured an apple cake and chocolate budino. Highly recommend if you happen to be in or even near Mantova (Mantua). And, if you're not, plan a trip so you can stop here for lunch. It's worth it! (pictures show the end of lunch service: when we arrived it was full)
Keep it as a secret. It’s one of the most delicate an authentic retaurants. Always excellent. But please tell us who started it and when.

Posto dalle poche pretese e pochi sfronzol.
Abbiamo pranzato in quattro.
Food was yummy and extremely simple; like having lunch at a local's home. Service was polite. The restaurant was rather busy.
I went here for lunch once, on a recommendation. I must say I'd heard great things about it, but I actually found it to be only average. I tried: * Risotto alla pilota * Nerve salad with beans * Polenta cunsa with beans and salami Large portions, typical of a tavern. The table we sat at was made with two wooden prayer kneelers and a rudimentary table in the middle. Narrow spaces, quick orders. Noisy, but the sound of chatter. Nice tavern atmosphere. I found the risotto very dry and difficult to eat (they use too little pepper, compared to the Mantuan recipe), the nervetti were mushy, and had a horrible consistency (I think it's a matter of taste), like tripe. However, the polenta with salami was excellent (again, too little pepper compared to tradition, which is good for me, because I don't like excessive pepper). I've also attached a photo of the menu with prices updated to November 2024.
A simple restaurant, like the osterias of old, with typical Mantua dishes, friendly staff, quick service, good food, and moderately priced. They don't accept phone reservations; you must visit them. They're open for lunch only from 12:30 to 2:30 pm Monday to Saturday. Closed on Sundays and holidays.
Now I'm going to write something that will be considered sacrilegious by most Mantua residents. I've always loved this place. I've been going there since I was little. Eating at large wooden tables with whoever happens by, paper placemats, spartan service, simple and, above all, inexpensive dishes. A convivial place to eat in company without spending too much and without too many pretensions. This was Quattro Tette. Today, however, I was shocked by the skyrocketing prices. Now you spend as much as at any restaurant in the center, or almost. But the quality of the food is certainly not restaurant-quality. The dishes are already prepared. In fact, if they run out, they don't make them fresh for you. Take what's left. My tagliatelle were definitely not homemade. Just ordinary tagliatelle that I can eat at home. The risotto is okay, it's good, everyone knows, but it's not the best in the city (ever) and it costs the same as in restaurants where they definitely make it better. Desserts (cooked plums, crème caramel, or apple pie) €5. Its popular appeal, in my opinion, has faded. Another piece of the old Mantua tradition falling apart. What a shame.
Excellent value for money. Good, traditional food at truly affordable prices. Reservations are not accepted, the space is small; you have to get there very early or you'll have to wait outside. The bathroom is a bit awkward, and not particularly accessible. Service is very fast, with friendly staff. Suitable for those looking for a place to enjoy good traditional specialties without being overly formal. If you're looking for a refined atmosphere and a bit of privacy, it's best to avoid this place.
Arriving in Mantua for the first time, at 1:45 PM, out of four options for a first course, only two dishes were available (not the typical ones). The staff were unwelcoming, the bathrooms were uncomfortable and not very accessible to the disabled. The location was cramped and not for those with claustrophobia. The revisited dishes weren't to my taste. The only redeeming feature was the quality/price ratio. Affordable prices for average-quality dishes.
