We have only discovered this beautiful Olde English pub in the stunning, quiet village of Marsh Gibbon this year. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely delicious, especially Sunday Roasts and the homemade desserts! Blood Orange Sorbet and Tiramasu, to name just a couple. The prices are reasonable and the pub has a lovely calm atmosphere. Tastefully decorated and cosy, with William Morris print armchairs and wallpaper. There is a fire in the Snug and bar area for colder days/evenings. We love coming here regularly now. Sam, the Supervisor is super friendly and always makes sure you have what you need, and has recommended some lovely items on the menu Also, a big thank you to Christian and the rest of the staff, especially the wonderful chef! We have also brought my parents, and our daughter with her fiancée, they also loved this gorgeous pub! 100% recommended from us 💕 * Edited with added photos on 2/11/25 after another delicious Sunday lunch visit!
We had a fabulous meal with outstanding service! Our dog received a very warm welcome, as did we. The staff were incredibly friendly, personable and professional. We were seated in the dog friendly dining room which is very comfortable, and has direct access to the garden and car park. Based on our experience I highly would recommend a visit!
Such a lovely Sunday lunch. The best we've had for a long time. Perfect beef and lots of fresh vegetables. Lovely staff. We would definitely recommend this pub.
Lovely and welcoming pub. Really great outdoor patio/garden with chill out areas to sit on a summers evening. I had a pizza from their outdoor kitchen for £10, good ingredients and nicely cooked. Great value. Their main menu looks full of classics and more creative dishes - prices £12-16 for a main which is pretty good when you get rubbish chains costing more than that. Their Sunday lunch is apparently very good. I will be back to try! The bar has a nice selection of beers and wines with real ale from the local brewery. Pint of beer was well kept. Inside of the pub looked like a nice place to hangout on a colder night.
We had a lovely time here, this pub is dog friendly and have a snug room for tables with dogs. Plenty of easy parking and the sticky toffee pudding was particularly delicious. The new owners have done such a great job with this pub.
Delicious roast dinner - vegetarian and meat. Beautifully decorated and lovely atmosphere. Doggy friendly! We will absolutely be back, and looking forward to sampling the private wine list 😍🥂 Helen thank you! Great pub!
I know this pub from old and would recommend a visit after the extensive renovation the new owner has made. He has made it a comfortable cosy pub/ restaurant to visit. Great place to relax and eat. Jamie is a great host and has a good northern sense of humour. Good selection of beers and cask. Give it a go.
Our family went for a Sunday lunch recently. The food was brilliant, from the roast (beef, lamb and vegetarian options) through to the sticky toffee pudding. The latter being one of the best I’ve ever had. Homemade horseradish and mint sauce shows great attention to detail. High chair also provided for our baby. Very welcoming and knowledgable owners plus great service overall. We’ll definitely be coming back again.
Absolutely one of the best Sunday lunches I've had in a while. I'm a real foodie, live in the Cotswolds so we have a huge choice but this really set the bar high. A half way meeting place for the family. The lunch..beef was phenomenal and the home made horseradish sauce was perfect. The staff so attentive...the owners, a lovely couple could not do more. We are now using this as our meeting place..I would highly recommend. We need to support our local businesses..one day they'll be no more. I loved The Plough...
Amazing Sunday roast here!! We booked for 9 of us kids included and were very impressed. Helen and her husband were so helpful and kind to the kids too. Food was amazing
First visit. Absolutely wonderful! Lovely staff, very friendly and attentive. Offered great menu recommendations. Extensive and well curated wine list and beers. Menu was wonderfully curated. Food itself was fantastic! Big portions for mains. Amazing flavours, presentation and quality ! Beautiful building and nicely decorated. Absolutely 10/10 all rounder.
We loved our valentines meal here. The food was lovely and tasty and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
Part of a group of 5 who stopped her for a Sunday roast. Absolutely fantastic - in fact we all agreed one of the best pub roasts we have had in a long time! Great portions, the potatoes were crisp and perfect, veg had a good crunch. The staff were attentive and the owner was lovely, checking in on us and generally being really welcoming. The decor stylish and comfortable. Would one hundred percent recommend 👌
We have just had the BEST Sunday roast in a long time! Food amazing.. fresh produce and beautifully cooked / presented Staff very attentive .. wanted for nothing Beautiful pub. Will definitely be back.. Thankyou
Wow! Our first visit but wont be our last, lovely Sunday roast with staff that can't do enough for you. Well deserved top marks.
Great village pub with a good selection of beers on rotation. There is a large dining room just behind the bar, with good atmosphere. The serving team were very friendly. An excellent menu, with a variety of very well prepared mains. There is apparently a pizza day, but check in advance. Booking not always necessary, but would recommend.
Lovely village pub, recently renovated, with good pub food and friendly staff. Smashed burger was excellent.
A lovely village pub that is friendly, smart and clean, with a good menu and fine selection of beers. We were staying in the village and ate here twice. We had a delicious meal on Friday evening and then returned for Sunday lunch. Thank you for your hospitality.
The staff were very friendly and the food and service, second to none. Found it on Google maps and we will definitely go again in the future.
I took some friends out last night for a meal, lot's of beers to choose from, it's had a recent refurb and looks amazing, even the gents toilets were lovely. what can i say about the food? simply awesome. the king prawn starter was fabulous, my steak was as good as i've had anywhere, and i normally don't bother with puddings but being as everything else was great, i had the sticky toffee pudding. fabulous. All the staff were brilliant, the Chef was worth his weight in gold. Well done to all and keep these high standards up. i would highly recommend. Thank you.
Had a wonderful roast dinner here today! Helen was a fantastic host who couldn’t do anything more for us ❤️ we had some drinks outside in the glorious beer garden followed by food. Wonderful, welcoming dog friendly pub 😊 it’s a shame I can’t find how to post a photo of our food!
Best Sunday lunch I've had in a while. The portion size of the roast was good (pudding could have been smaller). All the food was tasty. The waitresses were very attentive without being intrusive. Everyone was friendly. We did not feel rushed at all and could have settled in for the afternoon if we didn't have things to do at home! Lovely atmosphere too. We went with our 4 children, (3 year old, 5 year old and 6 months old twins) for mine and my 3 year olds birthday (4 next week) Our 2 older girls wanted to show one of the waitresses their light box they had, the waitress was very kind and took time to come back and chat to them when she was free, making them feel important and not dismissed before continuing on with her work. Our food came in good time. We were offered refills of our drinks regularly which i loved! I can not wait to eat here again and try something else on the menu. I see they have a pizza oven and plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer months! I'm definitely returning when they open that! Although, the roast was so good, I may just go on Sunday again!
What a lovely place. Met the amazing beautiful lady owner who treated our kids with special kindness. Meat was amazing, home/made bread was delicious. Would recommend for the hone made food 10 mins drive after the bicester village
Best Sunday lunch in ages. Service great and staff very friendly, spoke to the owner who is a lovely lady. Will definitely return and will be our first choice family venue now.
Great Sunday Lunch with lovely hospitality generally. Also super convenient having online bookings - not usual for the area so gets a 👍 from us!
We went for sunday lunch with the family and had an amazing experience. Food was excellent, with generous portions and fantastic service. We will be back!
Ed, Sam, Johny and team hosted my wife’s birthday lunch. We had use of the whole restaurant which is beautiful. The food was amazing and the service was excellent - nothing was a problem. We had a wonderful time and the Plough made the day special. The scotch egg, mushroom Provence and pork belly bites stood out as starters and the short rib, steak and pork belly mains were among the best of the a great choice of mains. Thanks for making the day special and absolutely recommend the Plough to all.
Lovely little village pub. Recently renovated and they have done a fabulous job, looks like a proper old style pub. Pub garden is huge and very well presented. Also dogs welcome which is lovely (not sure about dogs in the dining area though, but they do serve food in the bar area)
Visited The Plough three times during our visit to Marsh Gibbon, twice for dinner and once for Sunday lunch. Excellent food and very attentive service on each occasion. Everyone happy including our 2 year old grand-daughter. Steaks and scotch egg starter particularly recommended. A culinary opportunity not to be missed when you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.
Rather than stopping off at the services, we took a bit of a detour to find this gem. A lovely village pub, with a rather fancy menu. Tasty food, well presented and sensible sized portions.
Popped in for lunch, food was really good and well presented. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
First time visiting and what a lovely little gem to visit. The food was amazing. The service was great.
Went as a large family for Sunday lunch. The pub and grounds are lovely, good selection of beers. Food was perfect and a good atmosphere in the pub, will return.
Lovely village pub, we had a really good Sunday lunch today 27/10/24 not busy / or rushed as some puds do on a Sunday, on leaving the car park was full, dog friendly which is always nice, drinks and the meals for 3 adults £89, and we added the tip, ( which I like) nice outside area too, family friendly 😊
We came here for our first post-familymoon evening out together as husband and wife and were absolutely spoilt. The food was incredible, the staff were amazing, and the atmosphere just perfect. This place is a fine example of how country pubs can be done right. Thank you so much for a memorable evening!
Lovely food and excellent service. Really friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. We will be back!
Lovely pub - very child friendly garden and there is a track pump and work stand for cyclists!
A big congratulations to all at The Plough Marsh Gibbon on the opening of the restaurant. Jamie and his staff cooked us a delicious Sunday lunch. Michelle and Sam and all the other young ladies did a fantastic job taking care of us front of house. I would like to wish Edward and Helen, and all the team every success in this next step of their opening the restaurant. I will certainly be back.
The food was delicious generous portions and service was excellent
A friendly welcome, good food and great beer in very nice surroundings. Looking forward to the Pizza oven and BBQs. Restaurant nicely separate to the bar area.
We just went for a lovely meal at the plough. The food was amazing, the service was efficient and very friendly. 5 stars from me. We will definitely be back very soon!
Great pub in the village. Has been recently done up to a very high standard. Very nice and will definitely return when I'm nearby again
Just popped in for a drink & booked our Anniversary dinner!...... Halloween!!!
Fantastic pub which we highly recommend. Steaks were among the most tender we have ever eaten, blood orange sorbet outstanding and delightful service. Having recently dined at a supposed top restaurant we can confidently say that this pub beat it hands down on service. While we live miles away, we will go again.
In these covid times, it t was so nice to be able to turn up and meet super friendly, smiley faces and get a good value drink. Emailed in advance, lovely messages from Stella. Great place. I can see the locals like it which is always nice.
Proper country pub. Dropped in for a few quick pints and happily found a pool table. Friendly and welcoming staff. The Kronenbourg went down extremely well. We will return as it's a convenient local pub that is actually open in the day unlike most about these parts.
I am afraid my experiences are always based on several visits. This was my first as my daughter lives in the village. I'm not happy to hear your service times are limited to twice a week! How can anyone become 'attached' or use it reqularly with that timescale. I am unlikely to see you again for many months. Your opening hours are somewhat restrictive.
Unfortunately not a good experience. Main was ok, dessert had no flavour. The restaurant room was lacking atmosphere. And it just went worse with the bill. I hope it was only for this time… if I ever come back.
Good food, but experience was rather spoilt by the male waiter who was quite assertive and unwelcoming
It had signs of trying to deliver but sadly missing it's target on delivery on almost everything. Food was underwhelming. Restaurant over lit. Ambiance of a café not a restaurant serving an evening meal. Food was tasteless and bland. It could be so much better. Left feeling disappointed when it had so much promise. Al carte menu was not done justice. Could have done so much better at home. Please season your food and present an accomplished meal. Steak tasted of surface cleaner and potato tasted of gas burner where it had been torched. Just not good.
During my recent visit to The Plough Inn, I encountered several concerning issues that significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. Firstly, the schnitzel I ordered arrived undercooked and raw in the center, which was not only unappetizing but also a serious food safety concern. While we did ask for, and get, the sauce on the side, there was absolutely no garnish so the presentation of the dish was reminiscent of something from McDonald's. This oversight in the kitchen was quite disappointing and affected my impression of the restaurant's standards. Secondly, there was a billing error where drinks from another table were mistakenly added to our bill. This mix-up led to unnecessary confusion and inconvenience during payment. Moreover, the atmosphere of the restaurant was far from pleasant. The noise level was excessively loud, reminiscent of a school hall during the indoor play, rather than a relaxing dining environment. The cacophony made it difficult to enjoy a conversation or meal in peace. Our ears are still ringing. Overall, my experience at The Plough fell very short of expectations. The issues with food quality, service accuracy, and ambiance were notable drawbacks that overshadowed any positive aspects of the visit. I hope these concerns can be addressed to ensure a more enjoyable experience for future visitors.
My mum booked a table today for lunch at 1pm. We got there to be told by a member staff of that they tried to ring my mum to say that the chef is away for 2 weeks. Yet..a member of staff has booked us in for lunch today ? There was also no missed calls from anybody from this pub! My mum came all the way from Aylesbury to meet myself and my son for lunch . Surely the staff would of known the chef is away for 2 weeks?! And why take bookings if he's away? This is not the first time this pub has had problems as my in laws have tried to come here several times only to be told there not serving lunch yet there's a sign outside there pub saying serving lunch between 12 and 2pm? After reading the other negative reviews this seems like a common problem with this pub. People been booked in to then be turned away! This pub may aswell close down!!
We went for the quiz, arrived one hour early to save a table. 5 minutes before the start they moved the quiz to a new room without telling us and when we went to the new room they told us there were no tables for us and my disabled mother would have to stand. We left and won't be returning.
My friend had booked a table for lunch today for 5 of us at 1pm. 12 noon ish she got a call to say they weren't cooking today! What short notice! Very unprofessional. For a new venture, that is not acceptable so 5 of us won't be spreading the word and won't be back. Disgraceful. They have done that before too so watch out.
