Amazing!!! We were the first to arrive on a Saturday night and were offered a seat at the chef's table where we watched them cook over the fire. It was a cold rainy night so the warmth was very welcome. The service was great and the food was better than I expected after reading some reviews. We had the chicken, porkchop, potato, brussel sprouts and grilled avocado. My favorite was the pork chop but it all was really very amazing. Drinks were also great. What a wonderful evening. Thank you!!!

This place smells amazing upon arrival and it only gets better from there! The open fire kitchen brings it all together. Cooking is an art that is front and center. Make sure to get reservations as it is a smaller quaint restaurant with limited times. While dining, I noticed that there were numerous regulars there dining. We will definitely be one of those now! Those Boys Can Cook!

My partner and I had an AMAZING experience and meal at Ash Hearth & Bar. Our server, Brandi, was fabulous and we sat at a cozy little booth where we could watch the chef (Chef JC) cook food over a fire and plate it beautifully. Our steak and scallops were cooked perfectly and our martinis were delicious thanks to Tim behind the bar. I would definitely recommend this spot — top tier dinner and service.

Don't sleep on Ash in the Iron Horse Hotel. This is very under appreciated restaurant with superior food and a great upscale casual dining environment. Our server was just spectacular and I cannot say enough about her pleasant demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu. Well done and sadly a rare talent in our current time of laziness and unenthusiastic worker attitudes. Tip people like this generously!

We were able to watch our dinner being made with a romantic ambiance….we had the artichoke appetizer and shared the half chicken….and would recommend both! Our server Brandi was great and very knowledgeable on the menu!!

After having an awful brunch experience at Cafe Benelux yesterday, Ash MKE came through and has cemented itself as one of the most eclectic and exquisite brunch experiences I have ever experienced. A wonderful drink menu, along with some of the most delicious foods I have ever eaten. The patio is absolutely beautiful as well. 10/10

Went on my birthday and had an exceptional experience! The fat candle was divine, the Brussel sprouts were perfection, the cod was beyond delicious, the elk loin was juicy, and the right texture! I don't even know how to properly explain the nirvana I experienced when I took my first bite of the chefs special wagu filet! That slice of heaven literally melted in my mouth! For desert I had the apple with whipped cream and caramel, the whipped cream was hand made, and the perfect ending to a magical evening in culinary heaven! The server was the best I've had in a long time she was very attentive and did her best to make our experience the best it could be! She deserves a raise!

Food and atmosphere were perfect for a anniversary celebration, our waiter Markus was awesome. Food portions were good for a healthy eater.

I choose Ash as the location for a business dinner. Everything was spectacular! The service, the environment, the food and drinks were all top notch. I ordered the trout and smoked cauliflower which were nothing short of delicious. But nothing topped the beef fat carrots. I do not even like carrots! The team at Ash is very talented if they can transform carrots into a vegetable I cannot get enough of. My team and I had a great experience and I cannot wait to go again.

My husband and I dined here on Valentines Day evening and our waitress was Rachel. She is truly phenomenal. Her attention to detail is on point. She made our evening perfect and we will definitely be back and requesting her section.

We really loved the whole experience, atmosphere, food, and friendly staff! Love the concept of the hearth being centered as the main open cooking source. Super unique! The food was clearly high quality and well made. Will be back!

My group thoroughly enjoyed the energy of the atmosphere and thoughtfulness of the menu. We ordered food to share throughout the table and items arrived as they were completed. The grilled avocado, spaetzle and prawns were a few table favorites. The brownie sundae was the perfect ending to the meal, but we are all looking forward to coming back again and trying the pear cobbler Mmmmm.

The food was AMAZING! I had the rabbit and my wife had the scallops. The scallops melted in your mouth and the rabbit was top notch. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The service was out out this world!

The food was delicious, the service was excellent. We watched our food being cooked over an open fire, it was a great atmosphere. We had the sundae for 2 for dessert and it was perfect size for two people.

Great atmosphere! We were dancing and singing along the whole time. Food was amazing and service was great! Our waitress was very sweet and the food came out SO fast. Could not recommend this place more!

What an amazing restaurant! Great food & wonderful atmosphere! Highly recommend!!! Itza(I think that’s how you spell her name) was an amazing server!!! I read these negative reviews below. I can’t even believe that we’re talking about the same restaurant! I highly suggest you try it and form your own opinion. We will be back!!

Everything was great except when we went to eat the crab legs they had no tools... That's just not cool. Sorry not sorry You're a high-end restaurant. I expect better

Brunch was great. It was downsized from my previous visit, but the food was great, and the atmosphere was upbeat.

This place does not get enough credit! The food was amazing. the service was even better! Halle our server was very nice and tentative. Took her time to make sure everything was perfect. Flat iron steak, scallops, mashed potatoes, and chocolate cake are what we got and everything was 10/10. We will definitely be coming back! Thanks for the great experience

C
CARRIE KOPECKY

All of the food was amazing. Apps to dessert. I like my steak well done and the chef was able to keep it juicy while cooking it with no pink. Our server explained everything so well and was so friendly. An excellent place for a special occasion: We will definitely be going back.

Had a wonderful time last night at ash.! There were 14 of us for an anniversary dinner. Food was amazing! Everything from the delicious vegetables , potatoes, bread, desserts, all were outstanding! By the way, my sea scallops were the best I ever had! Our 2 servers were attentive, and were always there when we needed them. Bravo to Aaron and Marcus, as well as back of the house! Food was nice and hot!! Also a shoutout to Shannon! She coordinated this gathering, on everything, and made sure we were all happy. Wonderful all around experience!!! We will be back!!!

Got the chef's table and it was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had. We told them it was our anniversary, and they treated us that way. Dan, the executive chef, is one of a kind. Jonathan was awesome too! They made us feel welcomed and valued. Highly recommend the grilled elk.

Had an amazing dining experience in ASH for the soft opening. So many great options on the cocktail menu, I wanted to try them all! Shared many plates amongst friends and loved every bite! The service was fabulous, I was cozy by the fire, and it was fun watching the Chef's do their thing! Creative dinner menu, with simple but super tasty desserts as well!

It was amazing! I loved the atmosphere...it was perfect for a date night or a business dinner. The open fire they cooked on was great and kept the place warm and cozy. The mushrooms?! I need those daily...the steak bavette? The most tender cut I've had ever (even at a medium well, good thing I convinced my date to not put A1 on it). The staff was amazing and the waitresses were just wonderful. And that pear cobbler? Yeah I'd come just for that...the only dislike was the pork shoulder...the flavors were muddy and dirty tasting...redo that and y'all are really winning (I can't even take a star off for that because everything else was so great)

Located in the Iron Horse hotel the ash has an amazing atmosphere. The open fire is very old fashioned in the best way possible. The menu was well curated and tasted amazing. Service was a tad slow and we spent over 2 hours dining here. I still rate this restaurant highly for a romantic dinner night or high end business gathering. Plan on spending a little extra time here for a relaxing, conversation filled evening!

Was honored to attend the soft opening this week and had a phenomenal experience! It was fun to share dishes among the group and get to try so many flavors! Food came out as it was prepared so it stayed warm as we were able to enjoy a couple dishes at a time. There were many favorites among the group but my personal favorites were the marinated chicken, au gratin ( do yourself a favor and get your own serving of this) and the grilled short rib. To finish off we enjoy the warm crispy cookies and brownie sundae. Looking forward to coming back soon!

We visited Milwaukee Iron Horse Hotel and decided to spend evening in Ash restaurant. First we were set at low tight small wooden table right by the column so my husband was feeling the breath of the lady by next table. We asked to change the table and our server was able to do it, so we could watch the cooks doing our food on open kitchen. We came at 8 pm, the restaurant was not very packed. It was interesting to watch the cooks doing our food at open kitchen. We ordered Grilled Avocado (+), Elk Loin (+), Rushing Water Trout (+- not enough of taste), Grilled Potato Confit (- it was burnt), Smashed Fingerlings (+) Our server was very friendly and nice, she was there when we needed her.

Love the whole experience. The Yard is a nice spot to hang when you ride in. Ate at ASH for the first time. Previously ate at their restaurant when it was branded Smythe. Whole different experience. Still a nice place. Loved the Spaetzle and Wagyu, my GF enjoyed her scallops. My only criticism is that the meal was pricey for the portions.

V
Vincent

Good was excellent, albeit a bit pricey. You pay for the atmosphere and quality of the food, not the portions. A bit noisy (though it was prime time on a Saturday night), but still managed good conversation. Host and manager were polite, though service seemed a bit hands-off, but by no means rude. The spätzle was especially delicious.

Ash is a very nice restaurant with great service. Most of the food we had was quite good, especially the Elk. The steak was a little tough, expected better, but it wasn't bad.

Had a nice lunch , great menu options and service. Was a bit disappointed that when making reservations asked if Ash Restaurant table was available for lunch , was lead to believe would be open. Turned out only the bar was open . Good afternoon one way or another.

This was a perfect date night spot - the cranberry mule, beef tallow foccacia appetizer, elk loin, and Wagyu Pastrami were all phenomenal.

We came with a group of 10 or so for lunch during the week. We were the only group in the dining room. Unfortunately it took something close to 60 minutes to get food…the server was perfectly friendly, but I can’t help but think they were drafted to help a short-staffed kitchen. She was absent with very few checkins. We would have ordered more drinks but were never given an opportunity. The ambience is great! The walls are adorned with art and the furnishings are tasteful and attractive. Overall the food was good.

Second place in my life that I see so much fat on the meat. The ambience and service are excellent, but the meat for the price is terrible. The pictures they show don’t correspond to the reality, 75% of the meat I ordered was just fat and bone. I called the waitress and she said that our meat was the standard.

K
Katie Wojnar

The host was wonderful and helpful. Our server was pleasant; she did not however ask us how our food was once while we were there, and she forgot to put a side in, and then did not offer to add it when we asked about it. The food was good, but nothing to rave about. There was another server working wearing her mask around her chin talking to guests and coworkers, so that was disappointing. We may try again once the menu expands. Open Table's menu has not been updated with what is currently offered.

Hotel has a beautiful common space where breakfast is served. The ASH restaurant space was cold. Brunch was fine.

Not worth the price, $12 for this salad. Nice facility but not worth the price in my opinion.

E

The Iron horse is great place to stay in Milwaukee, and the bar is a great place to hang out, but the Ash restaurant was not worth the price to say the least. It does not feel like an upscale restaurant, and some of the best food was the potatoes and greens, which is not a good look when you are paying almost $40 for skirt stake. I think having a restaurant at this hotel is a great idea, but making it a nice family bar and grill is the way to go, You are going to cater to more clientele, and can improve the quality of the food at a lower price point, thanks.

Had a reservation for brunch; host sat us at highboys on the unshaded patio in the hot sun. Mom asked if we could move to one of the 6-8 open shaded tables and the waitress said no because they were "fully booked". No one else was sat at any of the shaded tables the entire 2 hours we were there. We all melted the heat and ended up sweating through our clothes and getting sunburned. So, Ash is a great name for the experience we had.

Fair at best. Went for Valentine's day brunch. There were serving the same brunch menu that we had in the middle of July. My entree was just luke warm, my wife ordered chicken and waffles alot of waffle maybe something that looked like one chicken nugget. Our server just did not have her act together. Did not get the drink order right, never checked on us, never refilled coffee. Forgot most of the little things. Based on this experience most likely will not go back anytime soon.

I attended Ash’s Thanksgiving buffet. $65.00 per person charge for overcooked vegetable, dried out corn soufflé , rolls as hard as rocks, stuffing, not stuffing. Relegated to the library room that was cold and away from the very nice entertainment. Will never set foot in Ash again. So sorry. The wait staff was very professional. For the price, we expected more than the nearest Holiday Inn. Buffets are tricky. Ash has not figured it out..

Just ate there last evening. Extremely overpriced. When you order the $30 scallops you get 3 medium sized scallops on a plate. Nothing else. The $58 prime rib was half fat and not even a big piece. The grilled Octopus appetizer was one overcooked piece. Seating was terrible. Our table for 2 was so close to the next table for 2 it was almost a table for 4. The couple was having a loud conversation about an annoying friend of theirs so pretty much couldnt enjoy the sparse dinner we had. Extremely underwhelmed. Spent $250 with tip and left hungry. Absolutely would not recommend.

Overpriced Thanksgiving Day Lunch/Brunch. $249 for 3 adults. 2 glasses of wine. 3 turkey legs, sliced turkey breast, sides. Dessert looked like frozen tarts from GFS. So disappointed. Will not return. Not worthy of pictures. Seriously.

I really can't review Ash, because we had a confirmed reservation with Open Table, but the when we went there the restaurant was not open. We stood by the reception area for a while and nobody asked if we needed help besides a number of people walked right by us. We were also, close to the hotel's reception desk. We enjoyed eating at the previous restaurant, and hoped we would enjoy the new one. We look forward to going back, but are a little disappointed with the lack of service.

A
Andre

Not sure if they changed chefs from last winter when my wife and I and friends were in Ash, but food seems very cheap and in poor taste, it is reminiscent of a culinary student fresh out of school. You cannot advertise “award winning chefs” with food like this. What was also disappointing was that they have no menu posted anywhere, you have to go and find out and be disappointed. This was turning into a hidden culinary gem within Milwaukee, with bold and exciting flavors and presentations, not sure if the financial troubles of the hotel contributed to the change, but I cannot say this is for the better, but the very opposite. They need to bring a real chef back in here. I could have spent less and had a better meal at Texas Roadhouse or a chilis.

I was visiting Milwaukee from Wausau, and one of my relatives had confirmed reservations on her phone which she showed the hostess at 8:45 pm on a Saturday night. We were all dressed up as well and ready to have a great night and got told by the hostess that the restaurant is closed for a private party. The hostess said she is sorry and she thought someone had called us even though no one did! She said she was sorry and would reschedule us for another night; too bad for that I don't live here and would not be in town to come next week or weekend. Because the communication was god awful and because there were very few places to go to eat and we had absolutely no communication whatsoever, we will not return! I couldn't rate anything besides the service for the restaurant because it's hard to rate something when you don't receive anything!

We had been looking forward to coming for months and we were not disappointed by our server; she was knowledgeable and very kind. However, that is where I have to halt my praise for this restaurant. A group of 4 of us each ordered a protein: 2 flat iron steaks (1 medium and 1 medium-well), the marinated chicken, and the scallops, as well as an order of the smashed potatoes to share. The potatoes came out HOT! Which is great, however I can only assume it was at the cost of almost everything else. Our steaks and chicken were Cold. Just cold. We asked our server for a solution, the chicken was brought to the back where I can only assume what happened. But it came back out very hot, very quickly…I have something in my kitchen that dries up chicken reheating it quickly too. Our steaks (pre sliced) were put back on the grill and although now warm and very good, were no longer medium and medium well, they were respectively now a degree more cooked. Nothing was taken off the bill as though the mistakes and expectations for disappointment are just part of the dining experience. Suffice to say our group cannot recommend this place and will not return.
