I travel for work and most of the time I look for Indian/Pakistani restaurants to eat. This one I came across today. Had buffet during Saturday afternoon. Great place to eat and let me tell you this buffet was best I have came across. Food was delicious authentic Indian, flavor, test , spices were well put together to bring authentic flavor. There tandoori chicken was Devine and flavorful it tested like that it was cooked in tandoor and marinated deliciously. All vegetarian dishes were wonderfully cooked to bring full flavor. Please go visit you won’t regret.

I had a wonderful Indian meal at this restaurant. It was the best Indian food I've had in years. The garlic naan bread was the perfect texture and flavor. My drink had their infused pepper vodka, which is super spicy, but delicious! 🌶️🌶️ I also got the pepper lamb with a side of pickles. The pickles complemented the meal well with a touch of saltiness.

This place was fantastic! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, the ambience was friendly and warm, and most importantly the food was fantastic! We started with the Wok Chili Paneer and an order of samosas. For my entree I had the Royala Koora shrimp. Everything was great. We wound up with enough leftovers to make another meal tomorrow and I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Minneapolis!

Good food, real Indian feel in the US, I requested for little spicy and you know what I got was amazing spicy, keep up the good work guys, you are amazing.

Absolutely loved the Cocktail Dosa! Everything we had was delicious. We asked the waiter to choose their best dishes for us and we thoroughly enjoyed it all! We will be back.

I am here in Minneapolis in a short 15 days trip. This restaurant offers awesome indian food. I tasted Dosa and Briyani, both are upto my expectations. I will strongly recommend for people who want to taste indian food.

We had the bhel puri appetizer and dosas for dinner. Bhel puri was way better than what I've had anywhere else in the Twin Cities. As for the dosas, you get a pretty huge meal for what you pay. Each dosa came with sambar and three chutneys. I highly recommend the "cocktail dosa," which was basically a paneer dosa with some additional stuff. The quality of the food here rivaled even what I've had in Chennai. Will definitely be coming back.

I have been to many indian restaurants but Copper Pot had a their own dishes that enhance the taste buds. The staffs are friendly and they are always there for the service. Will go to this place again.

We love their to-go buffet as it is quick, convenient, and reasonable priced! Their tandoori chicken is very deliciously flavored and moist. The buffet has a good selection and a good rotation of dishes on different days. Definitely recommend!

I love this place and we go almost every time we're downtown (only exception is when we're downtown two days in a row, and then we still consider it)! Really good food. Great staff. Prices are as expected. The mojito fives you a lot of bang for your buck.

I have never written a food review here, but I have to say that this is an outstanding Indian restaurant and warranted accolades. If you have eaten at Indian restaurants on 8th Ave in NYC,Copper Pot is on par with the lot of them. Note: We did not have the buffet, we ordered from the menu. As vegetarians, the selections were plentiful with very interesting flavors. Very different from other ones, like Taste of India and Gandhi Mahal. Sometimes one can go to an Indian restaurant and feel like it has been Americanized. Having had authentic dishes cooked by friends and family, I don't feel that way at all. The Copper Pot chef is from Southern India, so he knows a lot of very hot dishes. I would recommend that you ask for "mild" if you don't like a lot of heat. The wait staff and owner are really very nice. As with any place, if you order a dish and it's not how it was expected or described then send it back, restaurants want to get it right, that's how they keep customers happy.

My family and I know a bit about food, dad is a chef and our mother is a Mexican woman who can cook even better than he can. This was the best dining experience we have had in such a long time. The food seriously kicked ass. If you can boast a refined palette, or are culinarily open minded in the slightest, you should love this.

This is probably the best Indian food available in downtown Minneapolis. Great lunch buffet (and a cheaper takeaway option that still lets you pile food up), lots of vegetarian options, and usually at least one dish that's discernibly spicy. I don't love their dinner format as much, but for lunch they can't be beat.

The food good and the value is great. I usually stop in for a to-go box. The buffet always has good variety and changes daily, so I always get to try different things each visit. This is on my regular lunch rotation, love it.

this is my first time in Minneapolis. I was looking for a good Indian food and I found very good reviews abt this place and I gave it a try. The place is excellent and very good view of metro train. No wonder it has good reviews food is outstanding. The kababs are very fresh and cooked to perfection. I have tried authentic Pot dum biryani and trust me the best biryani I have ever ate in US. Service was very attentive. Overall a very good and a must visit place. Will definitely come back and try their cocktail dosa.

My favorite Indian eatery in downtown area. Not the most selection (it's a cozy-sized restaurant), but always had good experience. Lunch is buffet style. Great tandoor chicken, great super-fresh naan flavored with tasty black kalonji seeds, very flavorful. Several vegetarian options, 2-3 meat. Additionally couple indian-chinese recipes. Also nice Indian mini deserts. Tiny warning for those not used to more authentic Indian cousine: in India and at this restaurant, the meats are cut up with bone inside. This adds flavor. One of my co-workers had hard time with it. In my opinion totally worth it!

Great place for amazing Indian food! Best Indian food I've had in Minneapolis so far. Everything was absolutely delicious, service was great and it was a nice quiet atmosphere for a dinner out with friends.

One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the twin cites. Friendly staff, Good ambiance and delicious food. Small but good place to eat. I love their lamb chops.

I have never been there but give u 5 stars for having to put up yet another claim of racism by someone who sees racism everywhere they go. Give it a rest already. You were trying to get something for nothing and got caught. You weren't charged because u were Indian, U were charged because you broke the rules. In this country if you eat off of someone else's buffet plate you are eating and should pay for 2 people. Learn AMERICAN CULTURE!

I work in the Lumber Exchange building so I eat here all the time (at least once a week). I have never been disappointed. I brought my family and friends here and they all LOVED it. The staff is always super friendly and helpful, and the $8 lunch buffet cannot be beat!! The food is always SO good, if a little spicy, but I love spicy so it's fine. If you're not a fan of spicy stuff, be careful! Even for a spicy lover like me it can really pack a punch. Honestly one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a few. If you're looking for great Indian food with great service, this is your go-to place.

Best Indian food option in twin cities. We are repeat customers and absolutely love it. Lots of options and really authentic Indian food. everything was prepared with great care and flavorful ingredients. They are somewhat small with lots of regulars which may have caused some of the negative reviews with slow service. Personally I would rather wait for a few minutes for quality food than something bland and flavorless thrown at me fast. My advice would be to Try the buffets to figure out what you like.

This restaurant is cozy and romantic located in downtown. Every time I go here,I enjoy the food. The service staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. I guess there menu is inclined to the southern of India. Here the chef is maintaining the consistency.most of the time this place is packed. I highly highly recommend this place.

I was here for their Saturday lunch buffet. while this is my first Indian restaurant in Minneapolis, this would be tough to beat considering the quality of food. I am a vegetarian and they had medu wada, pakora, upma, pongal, fried rice, paneer subzi, palak Gobi, baingan subzi n rice. while I didn't try it all, I did enjoy the medu wada, sambhar, upma, paneer and palak gobi . each item with distinct taste to suit my Indian pallette. dessert blew my mind , fabulous tasting pineapple cake and choc kesar. must try place and I will go again. buffett was 13.99+tax. worth it.

I was in town for a conference and was looking for places to eat which had vegetarian options. I was glad to have found this place for lunch with the downside that I pigged out and are too much to actually keep my wits in the afternoon session. They have an excellent South Indian buffet that I couldn't have enough of, consequently I came back the next day for dinner with more friends, some of whom were having Indian food for the first time. They all loved the food equally. Great for vegetarian and vegan options. The only downside was that oneof the servers was hesitant to make an entree vegan and insisted that it couldn't be made as such. The chef proved him wrong though.

So being born and raised in Indian subcontinent I am usually quite critical of food being served tagged as Indian in US. I usually do not give 4 or 5 stars to a restaurant unless it really deserves it. This is one of the best Restaurant in Minneapolis area for quality and taste of the food. Copper Pot really deserves 4 stars and only 4 start(not 5 stars) as according to me experience and service do matter when I go to a restaurant. If it is a take out place, service can be ignored but not at a sit down restaurant. First let's talk about food. I have tried their biryani and it was really good. I have tried Paradise Biryani as well but this was was way superior. Not the best biryani I had in my life but I had not hoped that I would get such great biryani in twin cities region(may be in NYC or bay area or in Houston but not in twin cities). When it came to curry, it was well prepared and had correct amount flavor. I had asked for Spicy and I have observed many places just add some extra chillies but they did not do they. They balanced amount of all spices well and did not burnt my tongue with red chili power. So definitely 5 stars for the cook. Service was mediocre at best. It was under staffed according to me and they need may be 2 more servers. Owner was nice and friendly but waiting long for menu card once seated and even longer for water does not leave a great impression on the customer.

We ordered the stuffed baby eggplant, Malai Kofta, and Pakora. All of the dishes were flavorful--spicy and rich without being heavy. The only issue was that we went to this restaurant specifically because their online menu listed dosa. When we got there, we were informed that they no longer sold that item, even though it was also still on the paper menu. Overall, delicious though.

Good place to eat Indian food. I have been here a few times for both lunch buffet and dinner. I have enjoyed the food and have no complaints. It's a good option in downtown Minneapolis if one has craving for Indian food.

Very reasonably priced lunch buffet, but has a limited selection of dishes to choose from. Decent flavor. Not bad, but not my favorite in the twin cities.

I've been going to Copper Pot for a few years now. It used to be a TO GO place with tasty food. Has a good mixture of good South Indian and North Indian cuisine and only buffet place in downtown which serves tea with buffet. The last few visits has not been pleasant. First of all I've never seen them serving paneer dishes for buffet ever, they had empty pots and we had to frequently tell them to bring more food and the cook probably forgot to add salt and most food lacked salt.

S
Shashank Hegde

Decent food. Main course was good and authentic, really liked the Naan with mushroom curry but, the appetizer (Gobi Manchurian) neither tasted like Gobi Manchurian, nor was cooked properly. I believe they missed to add garlic and ginger while sauteing.

Their food was mediocre compared to other Indian food I've had in the area. I think the best one was Chicken Tikka Masala. They had very interesting cocktails with an Indian twist so those were fun to try. The drinks were good and pretty strong but a bit spendy. The ambiance is fine. They have big decorative copper pots to go with the name. It is dimly lit but I wish it was just a tad bit brighter because I like to take a good look at what I am eating. Overall it was decent Indian food at slightly high prices (probably because of the location).

Good Indian food option in downtown Minneapolis.... Daily Lunch buffet is a good option to try, though there are days, when few dishes turn out not it was expected... Probably, you get what you pay for. Though, a good place for occasional visit, copper pot needs to catch up with the new competitions around.... Hope to see copper pot, do great again.....

Reached by 12:30 PM on a Friday. Place looked completely packed. All dishes were almost empty. Though the cook's were trying to fill them up it wasn't sufficient for the crowd. Taste of Mutton was okay. Biryani was kind of home made (No extra Colors) Overall the food tasted okay, may be we went with very high expectations.

Location is great as its in Downtown MN, Staff members are very very nice. BUT the food quality and food variety needs to be improved for the buffet. Giving two star as there are many good restaurants in the suburbs which is far better than this one.

To start out the food here was exceptionally good. I would easily recommend eating here to others. The reason for such a bad rating though is the quality of service. I came here with a group of six for restaurant week which is a flat price for starter, entree, and desert. The first 2 courses were perfect but after finishing the main we had to wait over a half hour for the desert as we believed they had forgotten. We had to ask about it. Then it was another 40 minutes waiting for the bill, we had to ask the staff several times for it. TLDR: So overall the service was terrible but food was amazing.

I've been coming to this restaurant since 2015 and I like their Dosa. Particularly their sambar. The management /owners are nice people.. However, I am giving it a 2 star because their buffet is not that great. I've also tried a couple of other things in their menu and they were average.

Had buffet on a weekend. Food has no particular flavor or taste and items aren't refilled in a timely manner. I believe it's the worst Indian buffet I ever had in Minneapolis and possibly in USA

Food took a half hour to arrive even though it was not busy. I had lamb vindaloo which was unpleasing: the lamb was stringy and fatty and not at all tasty. This is my favorite Indian dish so I have much experience!

A couple of things kind of ruined what was supposed to be a great birthday dinner. One, owner seemed a bit put off that I wanted to be seated well away from two large, loud parties of diners. If I'm going it alone I do not enjoy being sandwiched in between said large parties, where the only tables-for-two are, crammed into what should be an aisle. I want a nice relatively quiet dinner. Two, drinks and wine menus were thrust at me well before the food menu was. It was obvious that there was an expectation to order a glass of wine or cocktail. Because when I didn't, there was... consternation... on the server's face. And it was obvious throughout the dinner that the server had never worked as such in his life. Three, the (I assume it was) the owner tried to hard sell me on having some bread after I had ordered. When rice is served with the meal and I'm having an appetizer I don't need bread, TYVM. Four, the food. Chai was unremarkable. My pakoras would have been very good if not for the ridiculous amount of salt in the chickpea batter. The Chicken 65 was... decent, but not inspired. The Chole Peshawari was very strange... this is the first time I've run into Chole where the curry/sauce was predominantly oil - or hopefully, ghee - so much so that it was chickpeas and potatoes in oil sauce. Very strange. All in all, and especially at those prices, could have delivered quite a lot better quality of service and food. Good luck.

The food is okay. But try to avoid the guy with the spects, who I am guessing is the manager here. Feels like you are eating out of his plate.he doesn't even make eye contact when speaking to you, as if on a high horse of some kind. I feel bad since the other staff members are fairly nice and courteous. And they are the reason why this is not a 1 star.

Update after 2 years: Never again! Call the health inspector! I was the only person in there, and now I know why. Maybe 8 items on the buffet, 2 were out. Incredibly salty and over seasoned. Then it got worse... Finished eating and waited for my tab for nearly 20 min. Then I realized that I was the only person there INCLUDING THE STAFF. At this point I was thinking to myself "is it dining and dashing if they won't let me pay before I leave?" I went poking around to the kitchen door for assistance. That's when I saw a big pot of red something-or-other and a Rubbermaid bin of something else sitting at room temperature on the dirty floor. I snapped a quick picture of this food poisoning factory. Then a somewhat surprised looking man came out of the kitchen to ask if I was done. He had a big bushy beard with that same red stuff smeared in it. No hair net, no beard net... YUCK! I wish zero stars was an option. Why do all the Indian places downtown suck SO bad??? ---------------------- Mediocre buffet. Many choices, nothing bad but nothing really outstanding either. Lots of the meat dishes were bone-in, which is fine and probably adds to the authenticity (I wouldn't really know), but the meats seemed to be more "smashed" than "chopped", leaving you with lots of little bone chunks that you have to find a discreet way to spit out.

J
Jay Giri

Absolutely the most rude manager we have seen - as we were finishing lunch the manager asked us to hurry up and leave since 'people were waiting' In all our experiences at restaurants worldwide we have never been told to leave before. He did not care about those waiting - he just wanted the $. If people come late, they expect to wait... Atrocious behavior indeed! This manager should never be allowed to work at any restaurant.

Thrillist Review

Me and my husband went to this restaurant during lunch hours and ordered only one buffet to eat there. I just had 2 sips from his Tea (that small little joke like cup that has only 5 sips). The person at the counter noticed that i had 2 sips of his Tea and at the time of Bill he charged us $4 for that tea which was included in buffet, only because i had 2 sips from his Tea that's it. It was total Racism he showed towards Indian people. Though they should be pleasing towards Indian people not showing they just care about Money. No Indian restaurant charges $4 for Tea anyway. Don,t go to Copper Pot if you guys really want yourself to be treated well and Indians should be treated same as other in this Restaurant.

I was new to Minneapolis and coming from a small college town that has no Indian Food Joint, I was excited to try this place because this was cheap for an Intern. They told me Buffet Time is Over , you can take box. I had no idea I would have to pay for three People instead of Buffet Boxes for one person. When I told the owner , I honestly don't know. 1. If buffet time is over , they should not let me in , first place 2. They never informed me that they will charge me seperately for each box when they said ' u can take buffet box'. 3. Neither did they inform me how much one box would cost me 4. When I said , I was not aware, please let me buy only one box. The owner was extremely rude and made me pay for three boxes. Pathetic experience. Never going again. Would rather pay extra for Bombay Palace Buffet Nearby. It was the most unpleasant experience for me as a newbie Desi to the city. Suprised to what extent people can go to earn a few extra bucks.

It was a bad experience. I went with two of my friends to celebrate my special day. I ordered a fish fry and chicken curry with naan. The curry smelled really bad when I asked the person who was serving about it, he called another person who was working in the bar. He was really really rude. He asked me to the eat the food which smells like ruined and tell him the taste. I clearly told him am not gona spoil my health tasting that. He said we have been serving it the whole day and nobody complained. Come on dude so are you serving the same dish from morning... He said he is not gona replace the dish. And started shouting at me for not eating it. That was really a bad day for me. I pity on people who believe it's the authentic Indian food and hate such Resturant who don't treat their customers good.

The owners of this place needs to know one thing. One of your staff has no manners. We were there at 13.40 and asked this guy ( we dont know his name ,but can identify him if you want) whether we can have Indian bread as on the buffet there were no breads. His reply was .."whatever is there thats all for now> if you want to eat its ok ..otherwise you can leave" Is this the way you deal with your customers then I am sorry to say that you dont fit for this business

J

Came for buffet as it was lunch time. “We don’t have a buffet today because we catered an event.” What? Anyways order off the menu and every time we needed something, we had to get up and find someone- no table service. But the manager had plenty of time to do a business meeting for another catering event. He locked the doors early but let them in. Locked customers in the store for 10 minutes. Food was wrong twice, and the fire exit was blocked.
